The food is here is amazing! I found out they're affiliated with the Sahara on hall road which is my favorite Mediterranean in metro Detroit. Everything I had was delicious and so flavorful. The customer service was great, the restaurant was clean and very spacious. More people need to come here and try their food. I highly recommend it. I've had so many dishes from their hall road location and everything is always phenomenal. My experience here matched the experience I've had at the other location. I'd like to check out their newer location downtown Detroit soon. I hope to come back sooner than soon. You should come too! read more

Their dining area is open until 9:45 PM. The restaurant closes by 10:15 PM. It's a huge place at the corner of 10 mile and Coolidge. Their grocery store is at 14 and Ryan, which I visited just last weekend. Salmon gallaba, spicy with lentil soup, I just wanted three skewers of chicken Kafta, but the not so friendly or warm waitress told me that I cannot order individual skewers unless I get 10 or more of them and they have to be carry out orders. I went back to the front counter and ordered two fresh squeezed orange juices, a medium hummus and asked if my chicken comes with the garlic sauce. She told me or take a few minutes to make the orange juice, since she's by herself. We had to get the veggies with our meal or fries or rice, no way to get hummus. Rather rigid about the order options. The pita pocket bread is okay, dense, but warm. Our waitress seemed extremely stressed out and impatient and rather curt. There's only six tables in the entire restaurant. The lentil soup is good, hearty. I had part of the orange sticker skew in my fresh squeezed OJ, nice. The Fattoush salad was good, the dressing is nicely seasoned. It's lush, green and veggie filled. Had some peppers and like a Fattoush with some red cabbage too. The side of veggies are soggy and are from the freezer. My husband said they are garbage. The chicken kafta was quite good, super flavorful and had a bit of chili on top to give it some kick too. The meat was so juicy too. The salmon gallaba was ok. Nothing special. Our waitress did seem to warm to a tepid temperature later in our meal. Asked how our food was. Then asked if we wanted boxes for our frozen veggies, we said no. Then our bill. That's the extent of our interface. Other folks brought out our food. I was rather annoyed to find that they force a 20% tip on our bill. I went to the front counter and they said they do that to all customers since the pandemic. I said they need to post it somewhere, the waitress said it's on the menu. I said the menu says for 6 or more guests the 20% would be applied. The other guy by her said they are getting new menus that will state the 20% gratuity for all. I told him that's all good and fine, but I didn't get the menu. The guy called his manager. Had me wait several minutes while he explained the situation and how this lady wants a refund of the gratuity. After making me stand for way too long during the guy's lengthy conversation with his manager, while his eyes darted everywhere, he finally told me that they would give me a refund for the gratuity. However, before handing me the money he asked me if I wasn't planning on giving a gratuity. I asked him why that mattered, he said he's was just wondering if I wasn't going to be giving a gratuity at all. He persisted and asked me 3 more times about the gratuity. I finally said not after all this headache from him and the waitress and the added guilt trip about how the waitress lives off her tips. I was absolutely disgusted with how they handled the situation and treated me at what could hand been a decent meal. Terrible customer service and not honest or transparent either. The food here was very solid but a bit pricey. The hummus with chicken shawarma was my favorite. The Sahara combo was a decent amount of food and you will have leftovers. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, slow service. Came here by myself on a Tuesday night while on a work break. It wasn't busy, but each server seemed to be running around. Pita bread was served, but with butter. The other Sahara's I've been to give both bread and garlic dip. I was hoping to be in and out but was done with 45 minutes post sitting since service was slow. The chicken lemon rice soup was good, but I prefer their lentil soup. I also ordered the beef cream chop sandwich and I didn't enjoy it. My family made a reservation for a group of about 30 people. The owners were very nice and so were the waitresses. The food was really good. The meat and rice was phenomenal. We got lamb kafta, chicken kabob, and beef shawarma. I loved the beef shawarma and chicken kabob. The lamb kafta was very popular with our guests. I really loved the rice. I love yellow rice and it was so good! Hummus and baba ghanoush were good. I'm leaving 4 stars because the service wasn't great. It was very dysfunctional. We had to ask for more cups, plates, and bread. Nobody came around to take our drink order, some people ordered their drinks when half of the table was never asked what they wanted. Lamb dishes may be ordered to temperature :) I try to order a dish every week, and Sahara never disappoints. I order the Lamb shanks and/or Lamb skewer, rare. The portions are delicious and generous. Including the sides and soup/salad, a $25 Lamb entree can happily feed two adults. Other great items are tabbouleh and the stuffed grape leaves. I just ordered online and when arrived they did not have an item I ordered. The online ordering on their website does not say anything is out of stock not does it say that they will not issue refunds. They would not give me a refund of the item that was out of stock. I could have been given cash, but instead my options were to either get a different item or store credit. While this was their version of trying to do the right thing, consumers should not be forever to choose something else when they never received the product to refund in the first place. Not to mention when I got home I was missing a salad their website charged me for. If you order a 50 dollar meal here, and they are out of stock you will be required to choose something else you may not want to eat. Warning!!!! Utterly disappointing. Where should I start? I'm Arabic and grew up in Dearborn so I've been to dozens of good Lebanese and related restaurants. They all have one thing in common...they're welcoming and treat patrons like family. Can't say the same for this place. We had a party of 30 at three diff tables. One table got their food quickly. Another lagged by 40 minutes and no special orders. Tables of similar size outside of our group that had come in long after received their food before...and were provided hot pita bread from the oven while ours got packed pitas in baggies. Food quality, once it arrived, wasn't bad and portions were big, but if big portions of average food is all you have to offer when there are SO many other competing restaurants in the area with better food and service, it's easy to see why Yelpers have rated Sahara as average to below. read more

Very disappointed :-( I wanted some Mediterranean food and was in the area of Sahara Restaurant. I ordered a chicken Greek salad. It was terrible! The chicken was dry, the iceberg lettuce was brown, the salad was just cheaply made and just thrown together. Ugggghhhh. This is definitely not an authentic resturant. I loved the original location and happend to have driven by the day that it burned down. I was sad to see it go and was pleased to see that they reopened in Oak Park, the city where I grew up. I have eaten at the "new" location a few times, and the food was just okay. I think the Sterling Heights location is closer to the original as far as quality goes. Here is the letter that I sent to them on Facebook after my experience yesterday: "I stopped in at your OP location yesterday around 2:30. I walked past five or more dirty booths that need to be bussed and sat at in the very last booth - the only one that was clean and/or unoccupied. I sat for 15+ minutes and was ignored. Waitresses walked past and helped others, but I was left ignored. I finally had to ask for a waitress and a menu, and was then ignored again for another five to 10 minutes. I was starving and hadn`t eaten all day - but I walked out! It is inexcusable to go 20 - 25 minutes to be ignored by your waitstaff. There are too many other choices to risk being neglected like that again - I will not be back! " Important to note, it was after 2:00 in the afternoon and a half-dozen tables were left filthy with plates to clear. They did have several tables with guests for that time of day, but the treatment (or lack thereof) was beyond disappointing! read more

Went for a late night dinner when visiting Detriot. The ambience is crazy big. Looks like a casino setup in there. Tried their hummus - not the best i had. Chicken tikka - Very good.Juicy and tender chicken with a choice of rice, soup, salad. Chicken Koftha - Was good. Their quantities are big portions. So watchout when you order multiple items. An entree can easily be shared with two people. The garlic dip was good. Service was slow but waitress was decent. Not much places are open late night. First off the food looks nothing like the photos online, they served me frozen mixed vegetables instead of the fresh grilled vegetables from the photos for my $29.00 lamb chop dinner . They ignored my several request for hummus, and only after I physically walked to the front counter did I get my hummus. My family of (3) dined in and we were charged gratuity. It's tough to screw up middle eastern food. But this place is just not good. I had a long wait at the Secretary of State office, so came here for lunch. Upon entering, it looks like a huge catering hall. Big open floor plan, with lots of tables and stackable chairs. Booths around the perimeter. Zero ambiance, despite being nicely decorated. Only 3 other tables occupied, so for being a huge place, it seemed very empty. Wait staff have long walk from kitchen. No one seating guests. Food: ordered my usual - fattoush with mixed (both chicken and beef) shawarma. Server said can't do it. Upon my insistence, she said she would ask. She also said small and medium are the same price, so would bring me the medium. Within a few minutes, she brought out a smallish plate with my order. Guess kitchen could add 2 types of meat after all, just like every single other middle eastern restaurant does. Meat was tepid; neither warm, nor cold. Also, shawarma was very fatty. Lots of inedible pieces of mostly fat. Even the chicken shawarma had something fatty added to it. Kind of gross. Obviously they cut corners. Salad was ok. Dressing was mostly lemon juice. Pita: not freshly baked. Clearly re-heated as was not soft. Bottom line: catering hall ambiance with not good food. read more

Went to Sahara for Mother's Day with my mom and ill health dad. We were seated and given bread, we gave our orders and never received our food for 2 1/2 hours. AFter watching everyone else get their food, we were told another 30 minutes over and over. We were told they were overloaded with carry out orders. When we told them we weren't satisfied by the service we received. They charged us $71 for our sodas and smoothies and gratuity!!! We never received any food for over 2 hours. Our Mother's Day was not good and we had to search for food elsewhere!!!! read more

We have heard many positive reviews about Sahara from friends, so after our first visit was very lackluster, we figured we just had to go back to make sure we hadn't missed something. The first time, we got creative and went for the shawarma quesadilla and it was not good. We wouldn't order again. The grilled chicken entree we had was okay, but it was served with a pile of tomatoes when we asked for vegetables, which was a little bizarre. The next time, we had the chicken kabob lemon oregano entree. The chicken was pretty good, but this time when we ordered veggies, we received a pile of frozen-style broccoli, cauliflower, and carrot mix. They weren't fresh and grilled like many other Mediterranean restaurants. We also ordered the falafel salad which was great. I'd definitely suggest a small size, even for two people. We ordered a medium and it was huge!! It all depends on your values. If you're into fries or rice and you like lemon oregano chicken, Sahara will work for you. I definitely wouldn't suggest subbing veggies or ordering super non-traditional items. I think they have the basics down pat. read more
