I really wanna love this place, but I can't. Now I can understand places being a "hole in the wall", but updating and cleaning should be done at some point. I came here for lunch and left disappointed. I ordered their bowl with chicken shawarma. Online it says you can choose other beats but the lady only gave me beef or chicken shawarma. They also said they have two rices, it was only yellow rice. The yellow rice texture was way off. It was hard like they didn't add enough water for it to cook. It was also old and cold. The vegetables were not many to choose from as I liked. The chicken shawarma was old, very dry and burnt like it's been there for a days and not getting used often. Their garlic sauce was very chunky too like it was almost spoiled. I did try my food. The sad thing is the flavor was all there. It was just not fresh. But the meat was seasoned well. I got a chicken shawarma entree (chicken, rice, and a side salad with garlic and 2 pita breads) for about $15.99 + tax and the portions were big. However, the food was just okay. The food was lukewarm and not fresh, but I did come in at closing so I got the last of the preparations for that day. Also the dressing for the salad was not tasteful at all. Continuing our exploration of restaurants near our hotel we had a late lunch at Shawarma Grill. We used to regularly dine at a similar restaurant in Sterling Heights and thought SG might be a good replacement for this side of town. They are open for dine in as well as take out with limited seating capacity. We had studied the photos, reviews, and menus and had a pretty good idea of what we might order before we arrived. I wanted what I always ordered at the other place: Chicken Shawarma Wheat Pita with Garlic Sauce and assorted veggies. While some places have the chicken pre-sliced in a warming bin, here it is freshly sliced when ordered! It was then rolled, wrapped, and put on the grill for a few minutes. My wife had recent oral surgery and she has been on a liquid and soft food diet and chose the Curry Stew. The verdict is in and I'm certain that we will be back to try more menu items! Great food at great prices. I work nearby and it's a popular place for people in my office to go. My husband loves it too. I usually get the chicken shawarma, but my co-worker (who's Arabic) loved the shish tawook. It's set up like a Subway sandwich kind of place. Go in, pick your bread, your meat, veggies, sauces, and they prepare it in front of you. Very fast and inexpensive. They serve Pepsi fountain drinks and also an assortment of middle eastern bottled drinks in a refrigerator. Nice friendly staff. Good food, fast, friendly, and cheap! My job sent me to Detroit for work and on the way into the office from the airport me and my coworkers stopped here and we were glad we did after we got our food. The initial greeting was a bit rough as we didn't know what we wanted and needed help and explanation (first timers) and they seemed annoyed kind of. I've been using Shawarma Grill really frequently to cater our business in-service luncheons around town, and each time I'm met with rave reviews about their food. The very first time we ordered a platter of chicken shawarma sandwiches they came with a plastic lid on top that ultimately steamed the sandwiches. I'd recommend that if you do order a sandwich platter that you promptly remove the lid. That said, I've tilted to ordering the meat and rice platters which are FANTASTIC, and without the worry of steaming the food. Their saffron rice is amazing, each of the 4-5 types of meat included are loaded with great flavors, and they give you plenty of garlic sauce and accoutrements to go around. I haven't dined-in yet but on what we've had delivered I think Shawarma Grill is a solid contender if you're looking for some really great Middle-Med treats. Pro Tip: Grub Hub delivers pretty much wherever you might need a catering (or personal) order to go, for a nominal fee. read more

If I'm buying a lunch, chances are I'll end up here. This is one of the few places off of Northwestern where you can actually get a decent meal for less than $10! It's set up like a Subway except for Shawarma sandwiches. You can get your type of pita, meat, and fillings, and can combo it up with either rice, soup, fries or hummus. It gets busy during the lunch rushes, so be prepared to wait a little bit. But if you want to call ahead, they offer that! read more

I try to go to a restaurant multiple times before i write a fair review. And i just wanna say that Shawarma Grill on Northwestern highway deserves some love. They're kinda like the Iraqi chipotle where you can build your own shawarma sandwich (in pita bread, tortilla, or their special shamoon bread) or you can build your own rice bowl. They got these nifty little plastic platters that are divided into compartments. You pick whether you want the rice bowl (plain rice or seasoned rice) or the sandwich (choose your bread), then you choose your protein (chicken shawarma is my preference, my brother and friends get a mix of chicken and beef). Then you pick which veggies you want on there, which sauces or dressings. The meat is flavorful, the veggies are fresh. Overall great sandwich. A few other places have this model too. But this place TASTES GOOD and THE PORTIONS FOR THE PRICE is why i keep coming back. They always load it up with meat every time and i absolutely love it. Every other restaurant in the world is penny pinching and getting stingy but not Shawarma Grill. They do it right and I hope they continue to do so. I live within 5 minutes of 5 other arab food establishments but I keep driving further to come to shawarma grill instead. You get the most bang for your buck here and the meal is enjoyable. On top of that, the service is good. Every employee I've encountered is nice and patient. Never had a hard time with any of them. Last sunday when I went, i didnt want my fries inside my sandwich but on the side. The girl at the counter thought I wanted a full side order of fries. But she realized the mistake and took it off my bill. They Earned a New Customer ! I ordered take-out Saturday 9/8/2018 late in the evening. I ordered the Combo for 2, and wow they give you a lot of food for your $$. The combo for 2 is actually enough food to feed 3 hungry adults and a medium size dog ! I was one adult short of 3... needless to say, I had leftovers for breakfast, lunch & dinner the next day ! The food was delicious, the grilled chicken had a good charbroiled / grilled flavor to it ! The yellow rice and everything else was delicious. I also purchased an authentic grape (I think) soda, made in the UAE, from their fridge / cooler. It was sweet, delicious and probably unhealthy... everything a soda should be !! As I drank it, i fantasied I was enjoying this cold delicious drink after a long trek through a sandy desert near Dubai... then I looked outside my kitchen window and realized I was still in Michigan :-( read more

This great restaurant resides in an unassuming strip mall next to Guitar Center on Northwestern Hwy. in Southfield. I've driven by many times but never stopped in until tonight. It had good reviews on Yelp so my wife and I gave it a go. The owner waited on us and was extremely helpful. You could tell he takes pride in his food having his really nice cook provide us with sliced samples. He mentioned that everything is fresh and made daily, not frozen. I've never seen a rotisserie stacked chicken like this. Usually it's just a whole piece that rotates and gets sliced. It was awesome. Also kind of unique is how you can mix and match everything, even the type of bread you want. You can dine in or take out. Nothing fancy but nice and clean with big screen TV's. Great for lunch or dinner. Sandwiches are very reasonable with dinners around $12.00. We spent $25.00 because I wanted to try so much. So give this place a try. You'll be happy you did. read more

I love the concept here - it's like Subway for shawarma! Pick your pita, pick your meat, pick your toppings and sauce and you get a perfectly customized sandwich. Very affordable prices as well, with decent size sandwiches for about $6! I would have given 5 stars but knocked one off for cleanliness (or lack thereof). The place just seemed dirty like they never clean the counters and the 'out of order' iced tea containers next to the fountain pop were loaded with a layer of dust on top (in plain view).
