I was really disappointed with my recent takeout order from Red Olive in Southfield. I ordered two salads and two hamburger patties (plain, no bun or toppings). I expected to pay the same $4.79 to $5 add-on price that I have seen for other proteins like chicken or gyro meat in the past. Instead, they charged me the full $9.49 price for the complete hamburger sandwich for each patty. When I called to politely point out the mistake and ask if they could adjust it (since I did not receive buns, cheese, veggies, or anything else that comes with the sandwich), they flat-out refused to correct the charge. The staff was unhelpful and basically said that is how it is rung up with no exceptions. The salads were fine (fresh as usual), but paying almost double for just plain patties feels like straight-up overcharging. I have eaten here before and liked the food, but this pricing confusion and lack of willingness to fix a clear error left a bad taste. I will not be rushing back, and I will definitely double-check the receipt next time (if there is a next time). Save yourself the hassle and maybe go somewhere else for simple add-ons. read more

I was visiting from CA and needed a Greek fix. I ordered the combo plate to-go: moussaka, pastitsio and gyro with rice, green beans and a Greek salad. It was a nice few bites of each and tons of gyro meat. Honestly, the thickest tastiest slices I've ever had. I wish they gave more tzatziki on the side. The side of a liquidity tomato sauce was new to me. I guess it goes on the rice. I also ordered banana nut pancakes. 3 fluffy tasty pancakes. Unfortunately they forgot the butter. Online order - A corned beef sandwich means corned beef, not corned beef and Swiss cheese. If I had wanted cheese, I would have asked for cheese. At least they put the 1000 Island dressing on the side so I wasn't completely grossed out. In the gyro meal, the gyro was completely deconstructed and the pita was cut in to 4 pieces so I couldn't even "build" a gyro sandwich. What is the point? If I order a gyro, I don't want to make it myself. At least the lemon rice soup was properly thick and creamy and had good flavor. read more

Ordered a Western Omelette through grubhub. Upon eating there was a very long strand of hair EMBEDDED within the omelette. It was so embedded within the substance of the egg that it was hard to pull out and even made a noticeable track within the omelette after pulling it full out. Disgusting to say the least and lost appetite. I called and staff apologized and gave me a refund, which is the only reason it is 2 stars not 1 star. They admitted to NOT wearing a hair net! So my waitress was attentive and undistracted. This was nice. I opted for the corned beef hash and eggs breakfast which was prepared exactly as I ordered. Eggs poached and one broke. She was sincerely apologetic about that an offered to make a replacement. What? Not needed but very much appreciated. The corned beef was decent and the eggs were just excellent. We walked in and waited to be told we could seat ourselves and then continued to wait and wait and wait. You get the picture. We will be pretty forgiving if we see waitstaff "in the weeds" rushing around trying to catch up. But on a Sunday morning on a holiday weekend with no less than four wait staff hanging out chatting paying no mind to the fact that potential diners were waiting. We were out. I LOVE this place. I'm new to the area and my favorite thing in life is having a versatile family restaurant nearby that I can depend on. Red Olive is IT. The restaurant is clean, service is quick and friendly and the food is fresh and reasonably priced. We've had Italian, Greek and breakfast there and it's all great. Their Rosa Marina soup is fantastic - it's a tomato-based soup with orzo and shredded chicken. And their Saganaki has a decent portion of cheese; larger than most places. Traditionally I've gone to the Red Olive and enjoyed a solid meal. This time was a little less then appealing, and was met with little remorse on the part of the establishment. My wife, daughter and I went for a lite dinner, of which I had a Garden omelette, my wife had grape leaves and my daughter had a falafel. While everything came quickly, the meal was made undesirable when my daughter discovered mold on the pit bread. This was pointed out to the server, but neither new pita bread was offered, nor was any consideration given on our check. Everyone avoided us until we departed. After several visits to Red Olive, based on this experience, my family has asked to take a brake from this restaurant, with the hope both customer service and product quality improve by the time we return. read more
