One SINGLE corn beef sandwich with an extra slice of cheese, is over $20 here... for the people who don't know.. this is two slices of bread, a bit of meat, two slices of cheese, and some off the shelf Russian dressing....... Don't eat here. No one in there right mind would pay $20 for a simple sandwich. It's 4 ingredients, they got upset with me when I was politely confused due to the price.. a simple sandwich doesn't cost $20. There is no reason a sandwich with two slices of bread, some sandwich meat, bottled Russian dressing, and two slices of cheese would cost anywhere over $8... I have been patronizing this restaurant for over 12 years. I have a feeling that they are taking advantage of their long standing position in this community, a loyal customer base, and customers not understanding pricing of beef.. 6 slices of corn beef is about $3, two slices of rye bread is $0.50, two slices of Swiss cheese is $0.20, a spread of Russian dressing is $0.05.... And they will charge you $20 for a sandwich..... this is awful, disloyal, and advantageous. Don't go here, find another place for lunch that respects hard working people trying to get a decent sandwich. Their food is great, but no intelligent person is paying $20 for a sandwich. It's almost laughable if it wasn't so disrespectful.

so i decided to try a new deli. i went to star deli and ordered a half corned beef, half pastrami sandwich on grilled rye bread with russian dressing, coleslaw, and swiss cheese. seeing how i haven't eaten all day i was a. big back and at the entire sandwich after i parked in the parking parking lot. the sandwich was stacked high with fresh corn, beef and pastrami, and the coleslaw was crunchy and sweet. i'd highly recommend checking this little spot out. it's a mom and pop restaurant and they sell all kinds of snacks and drinks as well.

Lean corned beef and cole slaw on fresh rye bread. Delish.

It has been a while since my last visit but since I was in the area, it was the perfect opportunity to stop in. Star Deli is tiny compared to other suburban places, set up for to-go only. It makes use of its space well though. There are refrigerated cases filled with cold beverages, shelves of potato chips, and various candy bars and snack cakes. Despite the temptations, I only wanted a corned beef sandwich: a stack of lean corned beef, cole slaw, and cheese on fresh, sturdy rye bread. This was a good choice. I enjoyed the tasty sandwich, a combination of flavors and textures. The staff was friendly and cordial toward me and had a great rapport with each other. In the 5 minutes that it took to make my sandwich, I checked out the merchandise and listened to the easy conversation between the team members.

Waiting in line to try the famous Corn Beef Special!!

I had the usual for my first time at a new deli, ie, chopped liver on rye. This time I had chicken soup with kreplach, too. It was excellent. Thus far, I would have to rank Steve's among the 3 or 4 best around these parts in terms of quality and probably *the* best in terms of variety. Service was outstanding, too. A plus: unlike most delis, Steve's actually has more than just salads to offer my vegan wife. My server was very knowledgable about that, too. So, I brought home a vegetarian "liver" sandwich and a knish for the missus' dinner (and an order of kishke with gravy for me).

I don't dine in, so my reviews are exclusively based on my take out experience. I have moved out of town so I haven't had the opportunity to enjoy them as much as I used to. Their chicken soup is phenomenal. Absolutely the standard for what chicken soup should be. Fresh carrots, shredded white meat chicken and flavorful broth. Their kreplach are tender and filled with nicely ground and seasoned meat as well. Corned beef and pastrami are excellent and fresh. Chicken and tuna salads are both moist without being soggy and well flavored. The carrot cake is moist and delicious as well. The only thing is that you will pay dearly for the experience. It's expensive but in my opinion, treat yourself once in a while. It's all delicious.

The restaurant itself was clean, calm, and welcoming, and the food coming out of the kitchen looked really good. They do offer gluten-free buns, which was exciting to see at first. When I asked about the meats though, the person at the counter let me know that their meat options aren't gluten-free. Since I have Celiac disease, that meant I wasn't able to order anything. I did appreciate how straightforward and accommodating the staff were about it. They answered my questions without hesitation, which is always helpful when navigating gluten-free dining. Even though I couldn't eat there, the place looked well run and the atmosphere was nice. I'd still recommend it if gluten isn't a concern.

My kid had a hot pastrami sandwich. Let me start by saying that my sandwich was not only perfect, but it was massive. Expensive? Yes. But I more than got what I paid for. This felt like it was right around a pound of meat absolutely massive, it's 7 hours later and I am not even close to hungry. Great value here! Staff is friendly too. Basic interior, nothing fancy here. But the good is great. I highly suggest you order at the counter, not the kiosk, they have a ton of stuff not on the menu on the kiosk! J.Ja
