Famous from the borscht belt performances. I really really enjoyed my meal of matzo ball soup in which the broth was elegantly poured into a large bowl with a huge matzo ball and some poached carrots. The broth was flavorful. I opted for a sandwich, after pouring over the menu on line and at the restaurant I really, really, needed pastrami. Nothing says deli with a nice bowl of pickles and some bread. Half sours and whole dill pickles. So I ordered the Russian Reuben. They offer two sizes the regular or the extra cut (probably another ounce or two) I about cannot have a pastrami without my Dr. Browns Cream soda... IYKYK... I finally made it on a free morning, just in time for an early lunch. On the day of my visit, it was cold and wet, so outdoor dining was out of the question. Just inside is a large deli counter with items available for take-out. Beyond that was a large and stylish dining room, where diners enjoyed the last of their breakfasts. I was a smidge earlier than everyone else for lunch; the dining room filled up soon afterwards. I loved the huge menu - there were so many options for soups, salads (Maurice, Greek, and Cobb, to name a few), sandwiches (Reuben's, triple deckers, and even vegetarian), burgers and hot dogs, breakfasts (omelettes, waffles, and French toast), and deli classics. I opted for the Victor Special, extra cut, which included larger portions of both corned beef and pastrami, coleslaw, Swiss cheese, and Russian dressing. The thinly-sliced meat was indeed piled high at the center. For my side, I had wanted the onion rings, but they were already sold out! Instead, I went with the hash browns; they were crispy with a mashed potato-like interior. Came for Mother's Day brunch. It was really busy. And while it was a slightly chilly day, we decided to eat outside so we wouldn't have to wait an hour. The only issue is, I'm guessing the kitchen was backed up and the servers were a bit overwhelmed. We ended up having an enjoyable meal, and the food itself was great as always. And eventually someone who was not technically our server took care of us and did an excellent job. I shared eggs and challah french toast with my daughter and both were great. The latte (ehhh) ... I've been interested in trying the Stage Deli since my last visit to Katz's in NYC to have some traditional Jewish deli! I had the #32 pastrami on rye and it was pretty tasty. The portions are OK and I really enjoy steak fries so that was a plus! The atmosphere is light and open, and if you're in the mood there is a take out counter as well. My server was very attentive and friendly and i got a really good fresh deli style dill pickle with my sandwich, yum! This was an unexpected visit. We were visiting the nearby Holocaust Center and grabbed a bite after. We got recommended to go by the lady in the Holocaust Center's gift shop. This was well worth the visit in the pouring rain. The size of the deli sandwich was unbelievable and I ate off of it for little over two days. Ordered their thanksgiving dinner for eight last week and it was superb!! It really was enough for 10-12 people. The turkey was the best I've ever had...moist and tender with no gamey smell. All the sides were incredible. We paid $425 which included an additional side ($26), tax and tip. Desert is an extra charge as are additional sides. This has gotta be the best kept secret in West Bloomfield Township! They were extremely professional and had my order ready in time and even loaded the item in my trunk. My wife, her aunt and I visited and were seated pretty immediately, even though it was decently busy. We were sat in a back corner, and the waitress was quick and attentive. It felt a bit outdated inside, but I didn't really mind that since it was pretty clean and well lit. I got a West Side Story with a side order of potato salad. The sandwich was great, and checked all the boxes for me. The bread was the softest rye I've ever had. I liked how fluffy it was, even though that was not exactly the texture was expecting. The pastrami was really good, and it was sliced perfectly. The coleslaw and russian dressing were fine but nothing special. I didn't ask for my sandwich to be grilled and so glad I didn't because I couldn't get past half of the sandwich. The portions are generous and the pricing reflects that. My dining companion got the reuben and enjoyed it immensely. She got it grilled. It looked really good. In contrast, the french fries were not good. We were hoping they would be but the ones at Ember's were so much better despite both of them being frozen steak cut fries from a bag. I am sure most people could find something to their taste. We started with the Mushroom Barley soup, which was very good. We split the Fantasia sandwich (Turkey). The sandwich tasted fresh, but was dry for my taste. It could have used some sauce to give it flavor and texture. I liked the atmosphere with the painted portraits (Marilyn Monroe, etc...). The deli has a sortof New York feel. The prices were on the higher side for a deli, in my opinion, but the atmosphere and quality food justified it. I appreciate many of the items had two sizes. My husband and I both had matzo all soup and it was very tasty. I had mine as soup with a half sandwich and went with a classic corned beef on rye with added Swiss. The flavor was good but would have liked some kind of sauce or condiment with the sandwich. I also had a side of noodle kugel and it was excellent. Creamy and sweet and the perfect temperature. My husband had the titanic and it was definitely that. He really enjoyed it and had leftovers on day 2 to finish it up. The thing I like here the most is there corned beef West Side Story version with coleslaw and secret dressing on rye bread served with a deli pickle. Not so great. The floor around our table as well as the next table was covered with hunks of bread, pastrami, noodles and other leftover trash from previous diners. Why can't people pickup after their children? Why can't the restaurant have somebody vacuum the carpet? Not a great start to our meal. My Reuben was VERY sparse on corned beef with only a clump in the middle & none on the edges. My wife ordered "lean" for an-up charge & it was meh. She and my son both upgraded to "Deluxe" for $5 & neither felt it was worth it. Cole slaw was only fair & fries were ok. He had the turkey Reuben & our daughter had a cheeseburger, which she liked. The food is just OK & severely overpriced. Our bill for the four of us (no alcohol, only 3 soft drinks) was $100! For FAR BETTER deli food in a plainer ambience, it's worth the short drive to Tony's just up Orchard Lake Road in Keego Harbor. FAR better food and much more generous servings at half the price. Solid choice for my first post covid quarantine venture. I love the patio outside. All of the staff are wearing masks. It was nice to sit outside, enjoy some appetizers and some adult conversation. The food was fresh, well presented and delicious. Today we opted for devil eggs and avocado toast. Both were very smooth and creamy. Heardy rye toast with generous avocado spread and lox.
