I was craving Italian for some odd reason when I was recently traveling through Albuquerque with an overnight stay, when I found this amazing and delicious restaurant near the University of New Mexico campus! I ordered the Southwest Skillet, which was penne pasta, green chile, chicken and cream sauce baked with cheddar cheese. OMG! It was the bomb! I think the best thing about this was the green chilies, which I think improve practically any savory dish you might have. Since New Mexico is the home of Hatch green chilies, of course you gotta do as the Romans do, and I love me some green chilies, living as I do in neighboring Arizona (I buy the Hatch branch products at the grocery store and directly from the source when I can). I also had a Blue Moon on tap. I could see they do a brisk to-go and food courier business, but I ate in since I had the time. The food combined with the fun and quirky interior (which includes an actual waterfall -- or curtain of water might be more accurate) made for a very memorable dining experience! Service is horrible at best! The food quality has dropped drastically! I ordered a slice of cheese pizza and a calzone, the calzone was ready 5 minutes before the cheese pizza. When I asked about the pizza the employee pointed to it on the cooker and said it's right there. Then, he walked away without getting it. Saggios may not be fine dining and it is definitely not healthy food but it is incredibly delicious! I visited for dinner with my boyfriend and a few of his friends. The place was packed on a Friday night and we managed to grab the last open table. It seems that this is a hot spot for the local college kids and it's something I could have seen myself frequenting had I gone to college here. Good food at affordable prices! I chose the lunch size baked ziti and added a side garden salad for $2. I figured that the lunch portion may be small enough that I could supplement the meal with a salad. If this was the lunch portion, the dinner one must be really big! Even the salad was huge for a side salad. I ate half of each and took the rest to go. I did end up being happy that I had ordered the salad though because the pasta took awhile to arrive and it gave me something to munch on. I noticed that their salad dressings list two ranch options, regular and home made, but the cashier wasn't aware of a difference so I think it may just be a mistake on the menu. Either way, the ranch was so good! The salad has a lot of red, green and orange peppers as well as tomatoes and cucumbers. As for the pasta, it was gooey and cheesy and oh so good! Cool interior. I got a plain slice to go. It was a standard nyc style slice. The crust is too thick for my preference but it was still tasty. Biggest complaint is the price. $4.75 is way to expensive for one average sized plain slice. My son and I went for lunch on Thursday, 15 July at about 1124 hrs. We orderrd a dinner size meatballs and spaghetti, 1 dinner size lasanga, and 2 extra orders of meatballs. 45 minutes later we asked about our order and was told "Oh, it has been sitting here but we forgot to page you." We took our meals home to eat. We reheated them in the microwave And the meals were totally inedible Thr sauce was not umiform from one bite to the next, bitter, then sweet, them salty. The side meatballs were too salty to eat. We threw the meals away. Both my son And I had upset stomachs the rest of the day. Saggios has never been my go to for pizza. We ordered two large pizzas, totaling $50. We were VERY disappointed when we got home and saw what our pizzas looked like. We live 20 minutes from saggios so going back wasn't really an option, we had hungry people to feed. Not only was it ugly pizza it was nasty too. Under baked, WAY too much cheese/toppings. I've always wanted to try this place, heard alot of good things! We ordered 3 things. First, the Dinner Manicotti, it was wonderful and you get alot of food and especially for the price! The next one we got was Steve's Seafood Creole. I smelled this one over all of them when we first put them in the car! Yummmm! This had shrimp and scallops, with bell pepper, garlic and onions in a Creole sauce. This one was very tasty! Then we tried the Penne Rustica, which was jumbo shrimp over penne pasta with a three cheese blend with prosciutto with a garlic cream sauce. The shrimp in this dish was a little over cooked for me and the pasta was a little dry. Each one came with baked bread which was crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, which I love!! I mean, the receipt had our order correct, so the girl who took the order had no problems getting it right. She was very nice. People have dietary restrictions/preferences. Unfortunately Saggios on Cornell and central service has really gone down. My husband and I went today to give it another try after 3 years, since we got bad service before. After another 30 minutes we went to check and were told it's 2 tickets away but should be out soon. We asked for a refund because waiting for an hour for a pizza is just crazy. There was hardly anyone there because of the rain. From the outside, this looked like a sit-down restaurant. However, it is a restaurant where you first order at the counter. Then, you can find a table to sit at and they buzz you to the counter when your order is ready. The portions were huge and we enjoyed everything that we ate! Ordered a tray of baked ziti, a cheese pizza and the sausage and onions for a family style meal for a small group. The Saggios staff was very helpful with the order and pick up. The food was amazing - the ziti was perfectly tossed with sauce (not dry at all), the pizza was cooked through and the crust was delicious.
