This place had been on my wish list for a long time, and I finally stopped by to try the hummus. I ordered to-go, so I can't really comment on the service or ambiance, but everything was packed nicely. The hummus was good, though the falafels were a bit bigger than I prefer. The roasted cabbage and muhammara were easily my favorite items- so flavorful and well done. I do wish there was an option for a quick falafel pita where you could customize everything inside. A few more veggies on the side would've made it even better. That said, given its big presence in Denver, I'm definitely willing to give it another try, maybe for brunch next time! read more

I have been to Safta as part of a large party and as regular diners. They were both wonderful experiences. If you're in a party of 8 or more, there is a prix fixe menu at a set price and you get to sit at a wonderfully large table. Everything we had at the party was wonderful. When we went as regular diners, we ordered the foraged mushroom hummus, falafel, stone fruit, and lamb kebobs. The meal came with unlimited soft pita (yum). Every dish was truly so delicious - I would recommend any of those dishes. The falafel particularly stood out because of how perfectly crispy on the outside and soft and flavorful on the inside it was. It was plated on top of a sauce that also took it to the next level. We actually had a good amount of leftovers too and they still tasted delicious the next day. The atmosphere is airy and upscale casual, not stuffy at all. There was music playing at just the right volume to fill the space, but not disturb your conversation. I particularly loved the open kitchen and big windows contributing to the airiness. We arrived right before closing and they happily greeted us with 4 hungry people ready to eat. Our server was very accommodating and helpful in recommending dishes. She had us taste a feta appetizer that was amazing! We order lots of things to share as you will see in the photos. Lots of shareable dishes that filled our bellies. Safta continues to be our family go to place for special occasions. This time, a birthday celebration. We love sharing and Safta is the perfect place to enjoy a wide variety of Mediterranean specialties. Dinner began with an assortment of appitizers including hummus with lamb, house made pickles, labneh, lutenitsa (roasted eggplant), whipped feta and Moroccan carrots served with warm fresh pita bread. Next, we had a couple of small plates, crispy eggplant and Persian rice. Our main courses included harissa roasted half chicken and the whole branzino. Everything was fresh and delish! My favorites included the house pickles, labneh, whipped feta, carrots and OMG.. the branzino! The only item I was not thrilled with was the crispy eggplant. They have such a wide variety of dishes: -breads: focaccia, challah, sourdough, bagels, fresh pita -dips and spreads: multiple kinds of cream cheese, hummus, baba ghanoush, muhammara, lutenitsa, labneh, tahini, zhoug, etc -meats and smoked fish: prime rib, lamb shoulder, pastrami hash, whitefish salad, smoked sable, smoked salmon -vegetable dishes: latkes, roasted potatoes, roasted cabbage, cauliflower, various salads, pickled vegetables, crudite -eggs: scrambled, shakshouka, sunny-side up, soft boiled -cheeses, yogurt, and fruits -desserts: brownies, baklava, halvah, cheesecake jars, cookies, babka, coffee cake, croissants, and more We really enjoyed everything we tried and were impressed by the freshness and quality. They were constantly making fresh food and replacing dishes. We particularly liked the roasted cauliflower (so flavorful and in a creamy but light sauce), prime rib (perfectly tender and paired well with the dips/spreads), pastrami, smoked fish, pita (made fresh and so fluffy), and dips (baba ghanoush and muhammara were standouts). It is a bit pricey at $50 per person before tax, but the quality and variety justifies the price. The restaurant itself is very nice and open, with lots of natural light. We went for lunch so the experience is different. But the Brussel sprouts with the hummus were delicious and definitely worth ordering. We had an eggplant sandwich and the harissa chicken sandwich. The eggplant sandwich was underwhelming, the flavors just weren't there. The chicken sandwich more than mad up for eggplant. The flavors were spot on and would order again! I love the warm, comforting, delicious food Safta serves that feels both elevated and unique yet unquestionably tasty. I do wish their portion sizes were bigger that's the only drawback, the babaganoush especially is just plain babaganoush nothing too special, really good just not unreal and for $9 I wish the portion of the dip was bigger. They do give you as many fluffy, tearable pitas as you like which is lovely. The lamb ragu hummus was my favorite, silky smooth hummus with salty meat, so tasty. The muhammara roasted red pepper dip was unique and flavorful, again just wish the serving was bigger! The crispy eggplant is to die for, a huge chunk of eggplant with the freshest creamiest topping of whipped goat cheese, so tangy and the perfect bite. The matzah ball soup is just ok nothing special. I also really enjoyed the branzino paired with a tangy spicy green sauce and peppers popping with flavor. Honestly my recommendation is to just come and get full on hummus and salatim and skip some of the larger dishes! Those were the highlights of the menu and evening for me, and so filling! I found the 4% kitchen staff addition ridiculous and just lowered the overall tip accordingly. To start with parking situation was bad. It costs extra $10 in the adjacent parking lot if you want to stay for dinner. Staff were very nice and helping. Mocktails were ridiculously overpriced, so was the food. The quality of food was not bad but the prices attached to it can be commanded by a Michelin star chef, which they claim they have. However, he probably had a free night. Now pricing again. They attach 5% extra for staff benefits. They don't work for me and I shouldn't be forced to accept it. Wow this restaurant has delicious food! I made reservations through their website and we got seated immediately. Our waiter Duncan was super friendly, attentive with our drinks, and suggested some really good dishes. We got the mushroom with hummus, lamb kabobs, pita with spread, the eggplant and mussels as entrees, the rice and strawberry something cocktail. Everything was outright delicious! Been wanting to try this place for long time and happy we did. Forgot to capture all the photos of the meal but it was excellent. Wait person was exceptional as he was able to give us good guidance on how to order for our party of 4. I didn't get photos of the whipped feta, Muhammara and lamb ragout with bread which was truly outstanding way to start. I also have to give a shout out to NaNa's Martini which was delicious. We also had the bright green falafel, Persian Rice and Wood roasted broccoli rabe. The only disappointment was the broccoli rabe. Not as flavorful as all the other dishes. For dessert we ordered Malabi which is a custard and there was a walnut cake special for the holidays. Both were excellent. This brunch was awesome. Expensive but worth the splurge every few months. Don't waste your time starting at the baked goods. Skip over and head to the Mediterranean feast! They have an assortment of Mediterranean dips from hummus to babaganoush that are delicious. They have different pickled veggies, pita, cheese assortment, eggs, and about 3 to 4 options of meat. Everything is very filling. My favorite was the summer salad, very refreshing. Its busy and sometimes you have to wait in line for food, but everything is fresh and made to perfection. At the end, the baklava hit the spot. Everything tastes fresh and the drinks were good as well. Our plates look messy because we could be glutinous. But so worth it!!! Try it all. Safta used to be my favorite place to go for brunch, I would tell all the out of towners to go, but the food and the service has severely gone downhill. The food was cold & the service was really bad. We ordered drip coffee, came out cold and when we asked the waiter if we could heat it up, he questioned us as if we were lying. Honestly the only good thing was the bread. There was a time where I looked up & didn't see any waiters on the floor. Was waiting over 5 minutes, I had to go up and find someone to get our check, no one was to be found, so I had to ask the kind man rolling bread to get someone. Kinda crazy for how expensive the brunch is, you would think the service would be top notch! Extremely sad for me to say, but we will not be returning. read more

Mediterranean brunch; deliciousness. I'm not a fan of American brunches, but a discovering a delicious Mediterranean brunch spot in Denver has been quite the treat. The restaurant is cute and aesthetic, and the food was plentiful and delicious. For the brunch hours, they didn't have that much staff but they were still cleaning our table and tapping off our waters in a timely manner- it was packed! I love Israeli food and try to dine at any Israeli restaurant in any city. This one was recommended and it didn't disappoint. I even had great Israeli wine. We ordered a lot of food for two people. I will simply list and make simple comments. Labneh- loved but I know this is unpopular but I liked their pita but didn't love. Motek in Miami has better pita. Falafel- yummy and awesome Borekas- this is a must order they are so good Persian rice- not as tasty as I would have liked Half Chicken- if I could find this recipe I would make it for company. Tables are very small. Our group of 4 was seated at a table that truly could not fit more than 2 people, especially with the abundance of small plates/family style. We had 3 different servers constantly at the table trying to consolidate our plates as we ate which was a little chaotic and distracting. The food was pretty good but not incredible. The harissa chicken was bland and begging for salt but, quite juicy and well cooked albeit underseasoned, The bronzino was delicious although I do wish the partial deboning was a bit more complete. The muhammara and hummus were the best bites of the night. The whipped feta was the worst bite of the night, just a congealed glob that was texturally unpleasant. I would definitely skip the feta and chicken if I were to return. They brought two pieces of pita for all of us. We requested more and they came to the table with 2 pitas but only gave us one and walked away unapologetically. 1 pita per person would have been common decency. The service was less than stellar, the food was mediocre and the seating was cramped and uncomfortable. cost we ~$85 pp for this meal including everything pictured plus 1 Non alcoholic beer, 1 glass of wine and two cocktails. I came to the 2nd floor of The Source Hotel to get a hot Matcha Latte. I discovered that Safta is now offering lunch from 11am-2pm daily. I took my hot Matcha Latte and was seated for lunch. Large airy space mostly facing east. The menu is Middle Eastern with an Israeli flair. I sat opposite the open kitchen counter where I could see fresh pita being baked in a wood fired oven. I was served by Fatima. I asked and she offered several recommendations. I started with the Beet Tahini dip with EVOO and a hot pita. Yummy. I got an non-alcoholic beverage of Strawberry Cardamom with NA bubbles for $5. Very nice. My entree was a large fried eggplant served in a pita with seasoned steak fries served with a spicy harissa mayonnaise. Hot and filling. I added a 2nd NA beverage, the Pistachio & Cherry Gazoz. Also very nice. You can make dinner reservations thru Resy especially on weekends. Weeknights usually don't require reservations, but will be needed in Spring/Summer. They have garage type doors which can be opened in warmer weather. The Source food hall is next door with Smok BBQ and Cimera is on the top floor. read more

Went to Safta on a holiday weekday night. Reservations were easy to come by/the restaurant was pretty empty maybe due to the end of the holiday weekend. Parking is in a structure at The Source, 1st hr free and I believe Safta provides validation. The restaurant is cute, very large, and staff is super nice, plenty of seating. Reminiscent of Bestia and Bavel in LA. THE GREAT -The best dishes we ordered were the Lamb Kebabs and Persian Rice. -The kebabs were truly excellent, the tomatoes/matbucha balance out the flavor of the lamb and the pine nuts add a nice balance for texture. -The Persian rice is also really good with the tomatoes adding a nice pop of brightness. There is a buttery sweetness to the rice (a little reminiscent of cornbread) which was different but tasty. We only wish we had ordered more dishes to go with the rice. THE GOOD - The Lamb Ragu Hummus. There is a hint of lemon or citrus that could have been distributed more evenly throughout as we only tasted it in certain parts of the dish. While the ragu does a lot of the heavy lifting for flavor, the actual hummus tastes pretty good on its own. THE SOLID - We also had babaganoush and lutenitsa which were fine. These are very solid dips but not necessarily better or more distinguished than others we have tasted. Generally the babaganousb we seek out is either more smokey or onion forward. read more

I had the pleasure of dining at Safta over the MLK weekend. We had a reservation, were seated quickly, and watched the place fill with happy diners. My family had been there before and already had their hearts set on a "few" favorites. It seemed like we wound up ordering one of everything! We had pickles -- cucumbers and okra(?) With a nicely sharp flavor that kept me coming back for more. We had tahini and labneh -- I don't know how to describe what labneh is, but it was delicious spread on the fresh, warm pita, and the tahini was smooth and delicious, too. We had Moroccan carrots and I can't think of a better way to get your vegetables! But just case, we also had a Fattoush salad. "Bright Green Falafel" was super crunchy outside and delicately soft and delish inside. I could eat this every day. Then we topped it all off with a shared NY Strip cooked perfectly medium rare and sliced just right for sharing. For dessert we had donut concoctions each with a single raspberry inside, and a pistachio Gelato that wrapped this whole delight of an evening up in one big bow. I've had so many fantastic memorable meals at different spots in the Source going back to when it first opened...and always on the hunt for great Med restaurants, so was excited to try Safta over lunch. Met clients and walked right in and it was great--the food (whipped feta, lamb ragu, baba ghanoush) was top notch, drinks, and the service were all exceptional. A little spendy and even after a generous tip, had a great experience and would love to make this a regular spot! 6 Stars!!! What wasn't wonderful but is now actually infuriating, is the parking situation. I came mid-week for lunch and was surprised to find a spot in the main Source lot rather than the garage. I didn't expect it to be free, and each spot has a QR code in front of the spot. I took my time to goto the QR code, link to yet another parking App, linked my account info, and paid what was asked on my phone. It was annoying and a pain, but whatever. Because the lunch was so good and unexpectedly went long, apparently I stayed past the time I had paid for. When you do that, you get hit with a $55 fine from the Stooges that shake down their patrons for parking $$$. I am guessing Safta is doing just fine, but the rest of the traditional Source space is depressing, empty and sad. I am sure it's got to be ridiculously expensive to make it work in that space...and the parking situation doesn't help. I feel bad for the merchants and restaurant professionals that try to make a living there--but I will never return simply because of the way that LAZ Parking / PRRS runs their business. read more

It ends up being a little bread heavy, but we knew that going in and the pita bread is amazing....fresh, soft and hot! Parking in the garage is a little inconvenient, but I've never had a problem finding a spot. Also, the stone fruit salad was a delightful surprise to everyone at the table! Only complaints are that for a restaurant premised on sharing plates, the tables are truly too small. We had to keep scraping food onto the plates of other dishes to make space for the next thing to come out of the kitchen. Also, we asked for more pita bread probably 3 times before we got any. We are in town for a short trip and Safta was recommended by a friend that lives in Denver. We are so thankful for their recommendation because it was outstanding. The restaurant has a nice vibe, it's clean and has a great flow with the open air rollup doors situation. Service was great and the drinks were unique and delicious as well. But the star of the show here is the food itself and let me tell you it did not disappoint. We opted to stay with the smaller plates route and try multiple things but I would definitely be interested in trying the entrees as well. Second time at Safta and the food is most certainly the standout. We started with the tahini hummus and mahammara. The tahini was the perfect selection. I know the lamb ragu hummus is popular but I'd rather save that lamb richness for other dishes. The mahammara (hazelnut and chili spread) was a recommendation from our waiter, and we loved this. We then shared the crispy eggplant. Much more Italian flavors came across in this dish. Again, yum. Then we wrapped with the pomegranate braised lamb shank. Served with labneh (though I would have loved more of this!) and grapes, it perfectly balances brightness with the rich meat. All the portion sizes were substantial, having to bring a doggy bag home with us. In my opinion, none of the staff really felt like they had a passion or joy for the place, which left the service feeling a bit dull. However the whole operation was executed perfectly.
