Nice and Close to the Seattle Homestead SITREP This is the 2nd closest grocery store to my mom's home, and the one we go to the most office to take care of her shopping needs. SETUP There IS a QFC that is closer, but we find that the pricing-scheme for the very same items that my mom relies upon tends to be more expensive. HEALTHY STUFF FOR MOM Safeway tends to be a bit more price-conscious in keeping some basic necessities for those on fixed incomes - like my mom - and for this reason it's why we tend to get a lot of produce and frozen goods here. As members of their Safeway rewards programs as well, we can take advantage of some pretty good deals with some dramatic discounts. SPECIFIC "JUNK"FOR ME And when I say "junk", I DO mean JUNK FOOD. For me, I get great deals on a lot of crap-food that I ALWAYS get: * There is always a discount on one of the major brands of chips - often a buy one, get one bag free, and I always take advantage of that, like most recently when I got the Sour Cream & Onion bag of Lay's chips and I got the Cheddar Cheese bag of Lay's chips for free. * And when it comes to my favorite soda of choice - PEPSI ONE - THIS IS THE PLACE to come get it! First of all, not all grocery stores stock it. Other chains only have DIET PEPSI or PEPSI MAX. But I am NOT a fan of Aspartime or other non-sugar sweeteners that are not SPLENDA-basied. And Pepsi One is and that's why I get IT. Plus there are some deep deep discounts such as getting 4 2-liter bottles with each only costing 99cents each. Or two of their 12-can cubes and get two cubes FREE. NETWORKED An additional benefit of being part of Safeway's network is that I find when I'm visiting my mom's brother (my Uncle Gary) down in the Glendale-Burbank of Southern Cal, I get the same discounts and deals at the grocery chain there called PAVILLIONS. So I take the special Safeway discounts with me wherever I am on the West Coast. THE LOWDOWN I love getting healthy stuff and my personal favorite "junk foods" here!

The only reason I can't give five stars is because this is a store inside the Seattle City limits, which means they don't give you plastic bags. I like plastic bags, I need plastic bags, because they have handles that don't break like paper. Consequently, although they have an excellent selection and great location, I don't shop here any more because they don't have plastic bags. I go to the North City Safeway about two miles north, because they have plastic bags. Yeah, it's that important. This store is well laid out and in a good location, so it's a shame I can't shop here any more because they only have paper bags.

I like this Safeway for their wine display. It's easy to get to and easy to find my wine selections. Their parking lot is not congested. Easy checkouts and the location is convenient to my drive home. Their staff's are friendly and ready to help.

Cake decorator was just nasty and rude to me. Because I wanted a unicorn cake. She told me to go somewhere else! After seeing disappointment on my daughters face she actually took my order. Well here is what I got. A broken melting cake. So Embarrassing!

I like the store But the Deli section leaves alot to be desired. Most of the time the staff is hiding in the back room (They give the impression that customers are a pain in the a$$) Just look at the photo here and tell me you would want something sliced with all that old meat and cheese gunked into the blades. Go in at the end of the day and you will see it is worse than the photo.

Speed trip to the coldshelves for some vitamin C bottles. The safest path to these anti-sick juices was met with zero resistance and quick snatches were successful. The checkout phase was crowd-controlled and slowed to a ground halt. Consumers maximizing their grocery time dropping triple digit which delayed per transaction experience. In the end, checkout time exceeded the cost of my orange.

There are two Safeway locations on 15th Avenue NE. This one is far better in my opinions. Better sized store with seemingly more selection.

It's close but the constant lines make it a longer trip than going further away. The produce section needs help. The prices are fair though.

There were lots of food places soon as you walk in. I really wanted to stop and get some Yakisoba, but my girlfriends kept going and my tummy was growling. Our first stop was BeanFish. We got a fishy filled with Ube Custard. We needed something savory to eat first so we saved it till we had lunch first. It saved well for 30 minutes till we were done with lunch. For lunch we walked into the grocery store part and got some lunch out of the hot plate area. My girlfriend and I got the mini lunch bowl and my other girlfriend got the BBQ pork and some Tofu skins files with sweet rice. It has a fancy name, but I can't recall what it is. Lunch was superb. I was so filling. Rice, Vegetables, and BBQ pork. So much food in a tiny bowl. The store was amazing. Not only did they have groceries they also had: Gifts, Beauty Products, Generic Seattle Souvenirs, and so much more. I got the cutest dog lanyard. I belive he is a character, but I didn't recognize him. It came with a case with the dog on the back of the badge and a matching lanyard. The badge holder slides out and the badge slides in and then it locks back into place. I can't wait to try it out with my badge. (Update. It fit perfect and you can still electronically badge in with it in the new badge holder) Inside the store was a 2nd store that sells chocolate called Royce. We got one of the last boxes of their chocolate moo cakes for $32.99. I know mooncake season doesn't start till Friday, September 25, 2026 so we're prepared. I've been searching for chocolate moon cakes forever. I didn't grow up with bean mooncakes so they aren't my favorite. A couple of years ago I was introduced to chocolate mooncakes and I totally fell in love. We got the last one at the place and since then I've made it my quest. (Update. I tried them and they are AMAZING.) I also saw some adorable cards that I couldn't live without, but resisted as I make greeting cards myself. So, cute. If you don't make your own cards you have to buy some of these. I wish I had a larger budget and more room in my suitcase as I would buy so much more. Note they have a bathroom, the code is on the bottom of the receipt. It's not the tidiest bathroom, but it's a bathroom so you really can't complain. It's got such high traffic in this store so that explains it too.

H Mart back home in Honolulu is nearby but the parking situation isn't ideal in Kakaako. I decided to shop here while staying in a hotel in Downtown Seattle, luckily it was fully equipped with a kitchenette. It's a pretty well sized store, with a good amount of inventory. A few departments that drew my attention was the deli, and the alcohol aisle. I basically had a good 15 minutes to thoroughly scope out the entire store to get a feel of what they had on special, where everything was located, and how small and condensed it is inside, safe with a security guard keeping customers and store staff safe and secure.

For a city location, it is pretty decent as it has produce and hot foods. The size and selection does pale in comparison to the suburban locations like the Federal Way and Lynnwood stores. Prices are a bit elevated due to the location and the H Mart weekly ads do not apply to this store. I prefer to shop at the other stores, but this is a convenient option if I need to pick up some Asian grocery items on the way home from work or visiting downtown.
