A few years ago, I gave this Pharmacy a horrible review because they deserved it then. However, they have come a long way! There's all new staff, and they have turned it around completely. I personally use this pharmacy and also deal with them on a professional level through the local hospital. I recommend this pharmacy to my patients as they are the most helpful. This pharmacy is NOT good ! I asked for my RX to be transferred to this store because I left mine at home in Tahoe. The person said I could pick the pills up the next day by 12:00 noon. I went to the pharmacy at 4:00 PM and they said they didn't have my pills and may have them by Monday ! They didn't bother to call me to let me know or anything ! This drug is a very needed anti inflammatory! I will never use this pharmacy again! I go to Safeway in Kings Beach and they are fantastic ! Poor people who live in this small town and have to deal with these inept pharmacists! read more

I will add my voice to the chorus of "boos" for this incompetent, rude, arrogant cast of characters. They are uncommunicative, inflexible and strident. I asked them to talk to my doctor who was on the line on my cell. They couldn't . My doctor asked them to call her instead. They wouldn't. As a result I couldn't get my meds. If I could a negative number, I would. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER. I came in to pick up a prescription, and was informed it hadn't been called in. I quickly called the doctor and within minutes they had called the pharmacy and put the order in. I told the pharmacy staff member that I would like to pick it up now since I drove all the way there. As I am saying all this, the pharmacist hears and looks at me, then walks out the door quickly. The staff member says, "Oh well.. our pharmacist just went out the door for lunch for a half hour." I confirmed I could pick it up when she returned in a half hour. I did my shopping and then went back to the counter more than a half hour later.. pharmacist wasn't back. Staff member said she would call me when it was done and would put a rush on it so it would be ready very soon. I decided to wait in the parking lot as driving home and back later wasn't ideal. An HOUR later, I am still in the parking lot. No phone call. I kept giving them an extra 10 minutes until finally I couldn't do it. I called the pharmacy line and spoke with the pharmacist herself (who barely speaks English, by the way). She said "Oh.. oops. Ready in half hour." then hung up. I couldn't believe I had waited that long and they had forgotten. I left the store to drive home as I was not going to sit another 30 minutes. I am almost to my house when I get a phone call from the pharmacy staff member, "Did anyone call you to tell you that your prescription is ready?" ARE YOU SERIOUS. There was absolutely no concern for my situation or any care given about me as a customer. Absolutely unacceptable. I get that people need to eat lunch. But when you KNOW that someone needs a medication right away, and the order is at your fingertips, the customer should be at least somewhat of a priority. Seems it would be much easier to go somewhere else and avoid giving business to Safeway Pharmacy. UPDATE: spoke with the store manager. He was very understanding & the afternoon pharmacy staff (different people) was accommodating. They handled it fairly & I appreciate their efforts to justify the situation. read more

Safeway pharmacy is extremely slow. There were two people in front of me and it took almost half an hour to get to the front of the line.

Over the past several months the Safeway pharmacy has gone down hill. They would take a week to fill prescriptions on auto-refill, so that I'd run out before the refill was ready. Got a message the refill was ready, went to the store and it wasn't. I was told to wait 15 minutes and they would call me. An hour later with no call, I went back and the prescription still wasn't ready. When I asked how I could get refills done on time, they said they were really busy. Told them I'd transfer my prescriptions elsewhere, got no response, just a stare (not even an apology). Gave them another chance. Same thing. Prescription in "Processing" status for 6 days. Got a message it was ready after I had run out. Went to the pharmacy before they closed for lunch break from 1:15 - 2:00. Arrived at 1:10. The pharmacist was on the phone. When they got off the phone they said they were closed for lunch. I told them it was only 1:13, not 1:15. They said they were taking an early lunch. I told them I was transferring my prescriptions. Again, no response. Went to Pharmaca and transferred my prescriptions. When I went back to Safeway later to pickup the prescription that I tried to pickup earlier and they said they didn't have it. They put it back in stock because I had transferred my prescriptions. Pharmaca had the prescription ready early the next day.  Experience with Pharmaca has been wonderful. read more

Safeway Pharmacy sucks on all levels, multiple visits over the last year. Poor incompetent customer service, slow time to refill perscriptions, insurance billing mistakes, and unanswered questions on medications. The Pharmacist was incredibly rude during my last visit and would not answer questions concerning a drug. Isn't that the purpose of a Pharmacist? Would never go back. Hope the store manager who does performance evaluations is reading this, Michael McDonagh performance in particular, and the staffs performance in general is well below expectations. read more

If I could give no star, I would. This is an inefficient, inept pharmacy. I have been patient for the past three years, listening to the "we've had staff turnover...we've got some great people signed on" lies. I've kept my prescriptions there because I shop at Safeway so it feels convenient. No longer...I'm done. Three days ago, my physician called in prescriptions at 10:00 AM. Yesterday morning I got an automated call that my prescriptions were ready. Three hours later I drove to Safeway to pick them up. They weren't ready and I had to wait for 20 minutes. I also had a prescription for a shingles vaccination. When I was told that the co-pay would be $108, I decided not to get it and to contact my insurer. Today, my husband went to CVS to get the same vaccination and paid a $56 co-pay. We have the same insurance so I was confused, to say the least. When I called Safeway to get an explanation for the discrepancy, they told me to call Medicare. I waited online for 20 minutes to be told that Medicare doesn't cover shingles vaccinations, something that Safeway should have known. I spent another 40 minutes on the phone with Blue Cross/Blue Shield only to be disconnected. When I called Safeway Pharmacy back, they said they couldn't help me. Spare me...I'm going to CVS. read more

I have never had a worst experience with getting RXs filled. They never have the medicine in stock and have to order it which sometimes takes days if not a week. They admittedly said they forget and are working on a better system? Maybe use the one everyone else uses that works at other pharmacies??? Just a thought. Also they spend more time chatting and hanging out than anything else which makes the line pile up. Will wait an hour in line just to pick up or drop off. I work in management and it is obvious that this place either has poor management or no management. read more

I am a 73-year-old woman, and came to Safeway for a flu shot. Anyone over 65 should have a high-dose flu shot. They fumbled around for an hour, and then landed up giving me a regular-dose shot, which I only realized once I read the paperwork afterwards. This pharmacy is downright dangerous. Do not use it unless you're desperate. read more

The walk-in clinic is useless, "walked in" twice was told no one could see us. Made an appt. showed up and was told they to not accept medicare, even though the web site said they did. The nurses response was "Don't blame me, I don't make the rules". Complete waste of time! read more
