I never thought I would be one to "yelp" random places such as grocery stores or the idea of flip flops but here I am and unable to resist for Safeway. I am a die-hard safeway shopper, you thought raiders fans were intense? They are nothing compared to my love and devotion to safeway. I sometimes paint my body in red and white just to grocery shop. Well, not really, but it is a nice thought. HOWEVER, I do live next door to Albertsons but still hop in my car and drive the extra miles just for my beloved store. The store is clean, fresh, and always stocked to rock. Their customer care is ideal and friendly. That isn't exactly why I am writing though. This Safeway, to be exact, has THE BEST, let me repeat that in case you missed it... THE BEST sand which shop. They use all of their own fresh breads, meats and produce, pile it high with whatever you would like and charge the base price of $5 regardless of how much or little you put on your sand which. The line during meal periods is always to the door but you can order online and have your sand which ready to pick up by the time you arrive, genius. Another great aspect of this system is that if you have a Safeway club card registered prior to April 2006 they do a member deal service. Every 7 sandwhiches you purchase you can have one free. Might not sound like much but I am pretty sure that togo's or subway doesn't do that! With all of that said, shop at safeway but more importantly come to the Dublin store for a fabulously fresh sand which! One of the best places to buy your groceries is also a great place to buy your gas. Good quality gas at a very reasonable price.

I need to start by saying that I have a very poor opinion of the Safeway brand. Just about everything in the store is low quality processed junk. I do go to this Safeway to purchase a bit of this junk when I find travelling to a better store to be less convenient. Dublin Safeway takes the brand to a completely new level. The other day, I went to the Dublin Safeway specifically to buy some Haagen-Dazs ice cream. As I walked up to the freezer, I noticed cones in front of each of the four freezer doors where the "good" ice cream is kept. All of the junk, of course, was fine. I asked a manager if I could get some ice cream. Barely looking away from what he was doing, he said "I can't sell any ice cream if I don't have freezers". I asked if I could get some from the back and he said "Nope". So much for service. The next day, I went back, expecting the freezers to be repaired, and they were. I also expected the old, melted ice cream to be back in there, and it was. It was not only in there, but it was still melted. The containers were squishy, obviously containing liquified "premium" ice cream that had not yet refrozen. The freezers were also disgusting and filthy. I'm not sure if there is a food safety issue at play here, but there is definitely a quality issue. That Safeway would re-sell damaged products, especially expensive premium ice cream, rather than write it off, is baffling. I wish that I could say that I'm not surprised, but I am. In my opinion, Safeway is a terrible place, but reselling damaged products puts Dublin Safeway in a very special place. read more

Nice people, clean store, found everything I needed...what's not to like? The gas station is typically lower priced than other stations, even without a discount. There is another Safeway that is closer to my house, but if I'm trying to consolidate driving between going to the library, the bank, the gas station and the market, I come here for the convenience and pleasant shopping experience. read more

I would not recommend going to this store. Especially in the early morning. I guess managment works the workers like pack mules. Everyone is rushing around like mad. They avoid eye contact lest you ask for help. The ilses are blocked with product and pallets. The single checker is hard to find because he must stock ilses too. Today my checker was five iles away and it took me five minutes to find him. I saw other workers but they quickly broke eye contact. Then when you do get 'service' it's usually grumpy service. Plus when I buy bread there the expiration date is a lot sooner than most other stores I buy bread at and the salad in the bag seems to go all wilty and brown quicker. I have had good exeriance at both Safeways(north and south) over on Santa Rita road. read more

I went here last night so I can use my Safeway Store Coupons for final day. There was a lady in front of me who had to have the cashier re-adjust her receipt, because sale items didn't show. So sure enough after I've paid, I've checked my receipt and same thing happened. Since the cashier had a Bus Line...I've decided to ask someone on the floor, and maybe if he can just get a manager to do the adjustment. The Night Store Manager Ben, came and who I have to say was not friendly at all, kinda stiff, un-professional and a smart ass. I told him my problem, and then he kind of looked at me like and...So I told him I didn't clip my coupons out for nothing, and want my deal, so he then said OK, well can you go through all your items, and price out what didn't come up...So I had to go through this confusing receipt, and mark each item with the proper price. Then he said OK well I'm going to have Christina finish you off...Cuz I actually have a lot going on. When... I was walking around the store, he didn't seem busy at all, and even heard him on his cell phone on a personal phone-call letting the person on the other end know about his plans after his shift. Christina ended up crediting my $7.50, but I wasn't happy how Ben handled the situation! He definitely doesn't show an example of a good Store Manager. This location can kiss, my ass...I can't believe how they treat their customers especially with all the competition out there. read more

I am firm advocate of getting grocery shopping and gas done all in one trip. And I love Safeway gas! It is absolutely affordable and you can rack up points every time you use your card. I love it! I also love how there is only one direction you can drive through the gas station. It makes it safe for driving and efficient! I highly recommend it! read more

This is a mixed review. I give it 2-Stars because it is so frustrating that Safeway is consistently out-of-stock of a lot of branded items, in-aisle. Their produce is wonderful, and the people in the produce department and meat department are very friendly. I have never had a negative experience with my food that I buy there. However, they really need to work on their out-of-stock issues.. Very frustrating when you can't complete your grocery list with one stop. read more

I purchased the GIFT CARD about a month ago and embarrassed. Comes to find out a cashier at Safeway didn't activate the card - but charged a processing fee. And I went back to Safeway and talked to Manager - thought that she could take care of the matter: replace the card or refund the card. WRONG! She asked me to contact the customer service, then they would replace the card. WRONG! They said they need to research what was wrong...?! Then i got so upset - running around no immediate resolution for the customer who already paid - Even the supervisor in the customer dept doesn't have any authority to satisfy the customer - either REPLACE a card or REFUND!! THIS KIND OF THINGS HAPPENED BEFORE AT THIS STORE IN DUBLIN. Manager in store should have the authority to make a decision either REPLACE or REFUND - knowing a receipt were there and confirmed. THIS IS VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE...!! I didn't have any choice to do the DISPUTE THE MATTER TO THE COMPANY..!! I WAS VERY UNSATISFIED CUSTOMER...!! Great centralized location, you can see the building from the South 680 to 580 East overpass. I can pick up groceries, fill up the gas tank, get a mani/pedi, stock up on craft supplies, check out some house plants and drop off dry cleaning all in the same 4 block radius. This Safeway seems to be one of the bigger and updated stores of this supermarket chain. Loved the new look but .... traffic is a mess. The entrance/exit on Amador Plaza is too close to the intersection and creates a traffic jam during peak hours. During peak hours, lunchtime and early evening after work, parking is at a premium. Inside Safeway, staff is still friendly ... if you can find them. Ever since they added the self check lanes, staffed cash registers have decreased. I stopped by today at around 6:30pm, thinking I had bypassed the dinner crowd. I was grossly mistaken. The line at the self check was 10+ deep. There were only 2-3 cashiers and the lines at those registers were even longer. The lines were so long, I saw several people just give up, leave their groceries and walk out. I was happily surprised to find more exotic or hard-to-find items like pomegranate fruit, not the pre-packaged stuff. While I appreciate the expanded offerings at the store, I also expect convenience for the premium prices. I may have to patronize other supermarkets with more parking, better access and more staffer cash registers. Grade: 2.5 stars begrudgingly upgraded to 3 stars read more

I like the people who work here. Many of them are affable, hard-working, salt-of-the-earth folk! That is what makes shopping here a joy! However, Safeway doesn't make me happy as a general rule of thumb. The re-do on this store is terrible! Finding things is terrible! Asking them to stock things I would buy on regular basis (Black haircare anyone? Anyone? No?) has been terrible! Getting a decent response from their corporate office has been terrible! The selection of produce is terrible! And the quality of meats? I think I'll be nice and not say what a butcher from another grocery store said about them. Their gas prices aren't bad and they are, in my opinion, better than Lucky's! But that's not saying much! read more

I have a LOVE/HATE relationship with this place. 1) The parking lot is "THE WORST" it is too small. I found it funny one day when I was leaving the store and saw a little fender bender in the parking lot. One of the Managers ran out with a thick binder. This Safeway has a big thick binder just to keep track of all of the accidents in the parking lot. 2) I love the Sushi Guys. This is a great place to get pretty decent sushi on your way home from work. In fact the whole deli department is pretty good. It is pretty basic but everyone is nice. 3) This economy does have a up side. They no longer have 50 employees wondering the store asking if you are finding what you need. I could never get my shopping done because I had to field all of these employees. 4) The produce guy has been there for years. He is very nice. I do not mind him asking me if I need anything. He is very helpful. I just wish they would get Grade 'A" produce. 5) DO NOT BUY A JAMBA JUICE or STARBUCKS CARD from the Gift Card Center/Mall in the store if you plan on using it in that store. They sell gift cards that you can't even use in there store. There is no notification of this until you try to use the card. When you question the customer service department about this they say "we are working on it" and the Jamba Juice and Starbucks are privately owned and not part of the franchise. Hmmm. STOP SELLING THE CARDS THEN. I only gave them two stars because I have asked customer service to have a Manager contact three times about the gift card issue. I have $300. gift cards that I have bought for kids to use in this store because it is close to their school. I do not really want a refund. I would like to trade these cards for ones they can use in the store. They have never been used and they are still in the package. I have a receipt. Customer service said I should have bought the cards at the kiosk counter. They also said a manager would be able to approve a trade. read more

The reason this Safeway is the very best Safeway is simple: It's closest to Safeway's intergalactic HQ across the freeway. So, Safeway honchos stop by often, they try out new ideas here and -most importantly- all the Safeway honchos' families shop here and they want it to be nice for them. Works for me~ read more

Very nice Safeway! Produce always seems to be so fresh! Good dates on everything. I love to get there sushi, this location has a different supplier of sushi than other locations in the area, and it's so much better. My mom is a fan of there chicken wings, and coleslaw. And we always buy all our meat from Safeway, only place my mom will trust. read more

Lets be real, most of us buy gas based on price. If you look around Dublin this station only has one rival and that's Arco. The advantage you have at Safeway is that if you pay with your card you will avoid that 50 cent fee. And if you do your shopping at Safeway you also get the rewards. You always get 3 cents off the listed price for using your safeway club card and for every $100 bucks you spend at any Safeway you get a 10 cent discount on gas. So depending on your driving habits you can save up to 1 buck per gallon on gas. I fill up about once a week so I usually have a 13 cent discount on the price listed on the board up front. I'm giving the place three stars because there is usually a line at peak times and the "ambassadors" always get on my nerves by trying to direct traffic in inefficient ways. Nobody seems to listen to them anyways. Regardless of the lines I always get gas here when I'm in Dublin. On a 16 gallon fill up I save between $1.90 to $6 depending on my discount. read more

Just be warned that getting gas here can be like Christmas shopping, only that you're stuck in your car. People will cut you off if you sneeze for one second. You need to be alert and ready for a hostile takeover to avoid getting snaked left and right. The "Fuel Ambassador" there (most ridiculous title I've heard in a while), aka the gas station attendant, is nice and courteous but didn't help much. I was 3rd in line and he politely asked me to go to the next lane in the right and eventually led me to a spot where I wasn't even in line. I ended up getting cut off by 3-4 cars and the cars that were originally behind me ended up leaving before I got to the pump. The drivers that should've let me merge ended up cutting me off AND giving me a dirty look, as if I did something wrong. The Fuel Attendant was nowhere to be found during this, he was busy misdirecting others. Two options for people that come here for gas: 1. Don't get gas here if you're a nice, respectful, decent person. 2. If you're ready for battle, find a lane quick and don't let ANYONE cut you off. Play chicken with them, honk, flip them off, throw a quarter at their window, do whatever you have to otherwise you'll end up like me - angry at the world after waiting 3x longer for gas that you should have with everyone giving you nasty looks as they shamelessly cut you off. Other than that, this is your typical neighborhood grocery store. read more

I used to shop at Safeway in Pleasanton and Livermore all the time. Really liked the store and selection. Then I moved to Dublin close to this Safeway store. Every time that I went in this store for the four months I shopped there I left angry about something. They regularly had "scanner price errors", were rude, confrontational and just made shopping a totally miserable experience. Ironic that this incredibly mis-managed store is the one closest to the corporate office. Then I finally came to the realization, I don't have to shop here! Lots of other grocery stores. read more

I love this Safeway! I drive right past Lucky's to go here. The fish could have more of a variety, but overall it's really good. The sandwiches are good, it's always clean and the employees are nice. I go to the same checker every week. Corporate is just down the street so there's usually some big wig walking around making everyone that works there nervous and sometimes it's annoying. read more

Aisles and gas pumps are really close together thus you have to wait until the person in the front is done for all the cars to be able to get in and out. Pumps are modernized and new. I just don't like the idea of the machine grabbing your card when you put it in since you may damage it trying to pull it back out wondering why it's stuck in there. read more

I have always really liked this store in Dublin and I found the workers polite and friendly but recently I got a foster child. I was given WIC vouchers and an EBT card for the baby. . Once I went to pay using WIC/EBT the check out clerks became extremely rude and prejudice. Esp. 2 older white women - their facial expression became hostile and angry. One older white women called WIC to complain, but the WIC office made it clear that I was not treated with dignity or respect. Don't use this store if you have WIC or EBT - it is clear they do not want your business. read more

UPDATE 9-25-07 Not sure when this feature was put in, but there is now a nut bar. That's right, a NUT BAR. Lots o' different kinds.... roasted peanuts, almonds, brazil nuts... PLUS there is a 'peanut butter' making machine! You can make peanut butter made with roasted peanuts, roasted peanuts with CHOCOLATE!, raw peanuts, cashews, almonds... HOW COOL IS THAT???!!! :P --------------------------------- What?! You mean not all Safeway stores look like this?! I feel so spoiled! The staff, especially the ones in the produce and meat departments, are so nice and helpful. Yeah, and even though I find the produce department lacking in the Asian variety of veggies, I still do most of my grocery shopping here. This store is awful. Lack of checkers / express lane checkers. Now that alcohol is banned from self service, if you and your date want to pick up a bottle of wine, you have to wait behind 3 families getting their weekly groceries. Yes LUCKYs sucks way more. Way more. But Safeway used to better. When I can afford it I go to Genes, but it's the champagne of grocery stores here. Urinal in the mens room has been broken for months. After 22 years in the area, I am no longer going to frequent Safeway. They are out of or have discontinued too many key items I enjoy. Good local Dublin store w/plenty of variety that you usually find in the 'burbs. There is also a gas station at this store. It also has a great deli team...as I often attend Giants games and get my "go to" ballpark snacks here ($1 big Safeway corn dogs beat the smaller $5 ballpark corn dogs anytime!). read more

Okay okay, NO store is perfect, but this one is my Safeway, to the point that the cashiers recognize me by face and name. They have an awesome by comparison to other Safeway's deli and sushi counter and usually have better produce as well. Even though as I long as I live in the area I will never stray from this place, I do have one big knock on it. The facility itself. The parking lot is a nightmare and became even worse after they added a Safeway brand gas station in it. There are always car parked in the red zone in front of the store making it even more hectic to get in and out. Also, on numerous occasions they have lost power tot he store rendering it useless for amounts of time. Seems odd to me. But overall the best in the area! read more

After hitting up 24 Hour, I accompanied my Dad to this Safeway to grab some milk and strawberries. I go to produce, and he goes to dairy. All of a sudden I see him carrying four quarts of milk -- Damn! Apparently, three of those quarts were expired. According to my Dad, this isn't the first time he's caught them selling past-due milk. Why I like this Safeway: - Big, spacious, CLEAN, organized - Gas station (for which navigating is really annoying and it's dumb that there are 3 pumps per row, but hey, if you spent $100 at Safeway recently, you save 30 cents per gallon! Not complaining anymore.) - Specialty nuts and nut butter station (makes it feel like a Berkeley Bowl or Whole Foods!) - Self check-out registers - Competent and efficient staff...don't take forever to figure out why my coupon(s) didn't work like the Emeryville ones do. They figure it out, type in the proper codes, and get me my discount quickly without making anyone behind me in line angry. One thing I can't stand is the parking lot. Not well-designed for crazy drivers, making the rest of us scared for our bodies and cars. read more

Only three checkers at 7pm; lines make me sad. At least the store is clean and has a large selection. Safeway alwayas has a large selection of groceries and after the remodel it is quite schnazzy. Also, if you need some gas head on outside to fill up. I hilghly recommend non-peak hours. read more

I'm not a fan of going to the grocery store. They're usually full of crazy people not paying attention that practically walk in front of your car, mindless ones that block aisles for 2 full minutes before realizing someone is trying to get through, ect. This one is different though for the most part and the people will actually look before crossing. Besides that, they have a jamba juice and star bucks for drinks on the go. Best of all, for each time your tab on groceries is $50 or more, you get 10 cents off per gallon at their gas station on your next fill up. That's the biggest perk with today's price being 3.49, 3.39 after the discount is a STEAL! Not even the prepay arco beats that. Even if your tab isn't $50, you can still get 3 cents off their current gas price by using your safeway card and no I don't work for safeway :) . read more

FAIL I'm a Trader Joe's kinda girl but they don't have everything I need so I tend to come to this Safeway for those additional couple of items. Reasons why this Safeway fails: 1. Poor store layout. What's with the random candy/peanut butter/other random nonsense right in the middle of the floor when you walk in? It just seems to be misplaced there. 2. They are trying so hard to be a Whole Foods...very poor attempt at Whole Foods knock off. Their produce will NEVER be on par with the produce at WF. 3. They don't carry Tejava...I mean really who doesn't carry the best tea ever? TJ's does carry this but I happened to be at Safeway and was in need of some but of course they disappointed me and didn't have it. 4. They now have a security guard posted inside the door. Today the guy there had to have been 70+ years old. While I understand he might be there as a deterrent rather than someone to actually chase down shoplifters what good will he do as a deterrent? He's standing in front of a pallet of squash closest to the produce department in front of the doors. Uhm just a suggestion...most people steal alcohol/formula/pharmacy items (I previously worked at a grocery store) all of which are located nowhere near where the guard is. So he's not deterring shoplifters and he's not chasing them down so I'm not really sure why he's there. Seriously the guy there today looked like he couldn't harm a fly...I think he would hand out a Worther's Original and tell a story rather than catch any shoplifters. 5. This is by far the number one reason this store fails...THE PARKING LOT! Now I know must of this is due to lame drivers that don't know what they are doing but trying to get in or out of this place (no matter the time or day) is freaking atrocious! And every entrance/exit is a mess, not just one of them. And then there's the cars waiting in line for gas yeah that line screws things up even more. Seriously poor design! I will admit most of the people there are pretty friendly so there is a positive side to this store. read more
