Nice store, easy to find what I needed (water), plenty of options, a little pricey as I usually buy water at Costco. Biggest observation about Safeway is the width of the aisles. Barely room for two carts and traffic jam when waiting on others to pass. I don't shop at Safeway much for this reason. My only complaint was the laziness of the young checker. She wouldn't reach over counter/to cart to scan cases of water. She could have done this. Instead she whined to bag boy, pretty pleasing him up so her job. She was complaining about her personal life the entire time. Not a single hi, how's your day going or thanks for coming in. I needed to buy a birthday balloon so usually Safeway is my go-to for getting an already blown up balloon. Now unfortunately most...okay like 90% of the balloons here today are for Valentines which totally makes sense, a couple for the Super Bowl and a few birthday ones. But I was so surprised at how many balloons were inflated for Valentines day or actually just in general. I could buy all of them and hopefully fly away a la "Up." Now as much as I want to buy a Mickey birthday balloon or unicorns, it just isn't what I'd like to give the bf. So luckily I found one large balloon with a few tiny balloons underneath which I didn't really need but I'm too lazy and introverted to ask someone to inflate a balloon for me so I settled for the one "normal" looking one. I didn't walk around the store outside of the flowers/balloons area and the check out stands where there were also balloons. But it was clean, organized and bright. The location though convenient is also a drawback because it's a very busy intersection to get to the main highways. So do not go here during peak traffic/commute time it's going to be a mess trying to get here or out of here. Besides that, not a bad Safeway at all. read more

Cashier OXANA was very rude. She bagged my groceries and wasn't careful so my dish soap spilled in the bag. I went back to the store to exchange my dish soap, ice cream, and two chocolate bars because the soap had spilled all over the bag, and Oxana said " that's why I told you and ask you if you need another bag." She was blaming me that it was my fault that the soap had spilled in the bag! if she was careful enough and sort the items in the bag properly nothing will spill.. This is bad Customer Service, she had an attitude and an angry tone of voice even from the beginning when she was scanning my groceries. If you don't like what you do for a living, find yourself another job . I spoke to the other cashier, Jake. He was very nice. He was concerned and took his time to listen.... Contacted the store today to let them know that they are incorrectly charging a beer tax on the Lagunitas Hoppy Refresher - Sparkling Hop Water. They informed me that if they put it in the beer isle it has alcohol. Ingredients: carbonated water, hop extract and natural flavors. Big notice on the front that it is ZERO alcohol. They offered that if I can bring it in they would take a look. Uhhh, go grab one off your shelf. I think Dir Krystal Canales should pay more attention if someone takes the time to call. read more

The product availability and selections are quite nice at this store, and the product placement makes sense, unlike other traditional grocery stores in the Eastbay area. However, the customer service and the lack of common sense for your employees there, for the most part, are nonexistent. Specifically, today, 7/24/2024, I checked out at 3:02 PM with your cashier, Christina. She did say hello, but that was not the case. Did you find everything ok? No other pleasantries. Ok, I'm fine with that. She needs to do a job. Well, any time there was any form of distraction, such as someone talking to someone in the next aisle or any distraction, she stopped what she was doing to focus on that. Then, once she was satisfied with the interaction, she would return to her task. Secondly, do you train your staff at all? Especially the baggers. I had two normal reusable bags and one insulated bag. I had all of my refrigerated stuff up on the belt all together. Do you think the bagger would have put all the cold things in the insulated bag? Of course not; he put all my refrigerated stuff in the regular bags and all of my pantry staples in the insulated bag. Yes, of course I could have said something, well I did say something after he put my bananas in the bottom of a bag, I asked him not to do that and took the bananas from him. But I could have asked for my refrigerated stuff in the insulated bag, but why? You should train your employees to know how to bag. Let me just put it this way. Trader Joe's is my go-to store. Why? Because they know how to treat their customers well. Most importantly, they all know how to bag groceries. The only reason I shop at this store is because Trader Joe's doesn't have everything I need, so I am forced to go to a traditional grocery store. But every time I shop at your store, I leave feeling completely broke and completely disappointed in your staff. read more

"Cheap gas in a demolition derby parking lot." Sometimes this parking lot is like a demolition derby, with lots of cars driving around looking for a space. I try to to be careful, and I hardly ever hit other cars. But on this rainy winter morning, there were not too many people here, so I didn't have to wait at all. I simply drove right up to the pump. Plus, at the cashier station, there was no one waiting. The cashier sits in one of those glass booths, and one always wonders if they can hear you or not. I feel like I'm at a bank. They have a prominent sign that declares how little cash they have inside. I think I know why they have that sign. I contributed $40 to the cash they have inside. I filled my car with gas in about 2 minutes total. The cash price is $0.10 less than the credit card price. If you have a loyalty card, you can enter your phone number at the pump, or scan the card. I do have a loyalty card, but I'm not really sure how to use it. I admit, I might be over paying. This station also has the cheapest gas in town. This station and Arco are usually tied for the cheapest. The Exxon station close by used to match their price, but now is more expensive. The pumps here are very fast. It's comforting to see how quickly they can consume my money. read more

This Safeway has a gas station! They also are better stocked than most Safeways. I usually find what I need here and everything seems well organized from what I can tell. I usually find parking even on really busy weekends. I usually do self checkout so I can't really speak to the level of service of the humans but the lines go by pretty fast for self check out. Produce seems pretty fresh and they carry an abundance of protein options! read more

On the plus side, this place is rarely crowded, even during rush hour. I have seen jam-packed lines at other Safeway gas stations and this one isn't so. (I have been coming here on a regular basis for about a year at different times of day) Now, the reason for that might be that their prices also happen to be higher than other Safeway locations. Usually seem to be about 10 cents a gallon more expensive than the Safeway gas station on Contra Costa Blvd in PHill. Also, the staff is hit or miss when I have needed help. so I pull up at 1:55am to buy liquor before they close at 2am. I couldn't even get in the store. All of the doors were locked. I see people coming out and I try to run to the door they came out of and an African American gentleman tells me they're closed. I said, "it's 1:55. you guys don't close until 2." I had plenty of time to grab my bottle and get to the register. ApparentLy they were already closing the registers and he gave me some story about the register process...so I told him then they need to change their hours online and say that they close at 1:55am. Good place for gas, cheap and it competes with the local Costco gas station so prices are very similar. Not 24x7 Attendant is okay. They have window cleaning supplies here as opposed to Costco, so that is a plus. read more

I try to fill up here as little as possible. The lines are incredibly long! And for that, you can save a few cents. For the area, it is one of the cheaper places, but my time is worth something. Besides, I can fill up gas near work in Fremont, and for the same or usually even cheaper, I can get gas at 76. This would normally be a 3 star review for me, but the gas pumps are literally the worst design in the world! I maybe adding a couple of steps, or maybe even forgetting some, but... 1 click: Enter yes for club card. + 10 clicks: Your phone number + 1 click: If you want to use your Safeway rewards + 1 click: Credit card? + 1click: receipt? Now all of that is fine and all, but maybe you should design the pumps so that the hose doesn't completely block all of the keys and the display. You need to use one hand to move the hose away, then do all of those keystrokes. I hope you don't fat finger the wrong number, else you'll start over again. You need to look at the user interface and redesign how the hose sits and where the screen and keypad are. You'd think that you could just key your credit card to your account and that it would know your safeway club card number based on that. /rant. read more

This is quite a large Safeway store. Half the time I spend just trying to find the items I need in this maze. I find that if you start at the very back of the store, you get a better view of the signs indicating what's in each aisle. From the front of the store, it's just too spread out to see. Anyways, the staff is alright. They don't really go out of their way to ask if you need help finding anything, unlike at other Safeway stores I've been to. Nor do they really try to acknowledge you with a simple "hi" or even a smile. It's only when I try to start a conversation that I see they're actually quite friendly, or have a personality of some sort. Half the time, the staff just looks bored, which they might be, but still. I thought customers aren't the ones expected to initiate customer service....? Also, stores used to have the weekly coupons at ready near the front doors. At this store, they're nowhere in sight! Thanks for going green, but sometimes, it'd be nice if I could double-check what's on sale, especially since the Just For U items aren't marked when you find the right aisle, and my phone can't pick up any internet reception at this store for me to check either. Still, I do appreciate all the weekly sales they have, especially for ice cream and wheat thins :) The last time I came in, I was selecting flowers for my dear mom for Mother's Day. I ordered the Thanksgiving meal for 59.99 two weeks prior to Thanksgiving. The email contained an order confirmation number, what day and time to pick up the order. The day and time to pick up the turkey meal was something you could choose when you placed the order online. I get to the store, and there was a lady in front of me who also placed an order. She was told they ran out. When it was my turn, they told me the same thing. That they ran out of turkey meals. I was told they were turning down people all day. How do you run out of turkey meals that people place online?? The lady at the deli was so matter of fact Like yep, we have none. No Im sorry. No, let me get a manager . She told me my confirmation number was not a real confirmation. So are you saying Safeways sends fake confirmation numbers?? Then says sike!! No turkey for u! I was beyond pissed! Luckily my friend called the Redwood Road Safeway, and they had one person who called to cancel their order. With my last car, I needed diesel and it didn't always run well after stopping at Safeway to fill the tank. Since I'm back on gasoline, I decided to try again. Getting in and out of the parking lot is really contentious during the day. It wasn't bad after dark. They want everyone going the same direction into the filling station, which is helpful, although I'm not sure everyone understands. The price was reasonable for the area, and I got the cash price for using a debit card. Many filling stations make you go into the store, if they make the distinction between cards at all. It took some messing to get it to actually dispense, but at some point, it flowed well, and afterwards, the receipt was printed, and we were back on the road. read more

Hey this is the closest Safeway store to the Corporate Headquarters less then a mile away. I'm sure there is more than one or two Corporate people checking out this store everyday. The store is always in good shape but the parking lot ingress and egress along with the parking is bad. The Safeway gas station always has lines and blocks the entrances. I hate it. Yeah its big and has lots of stuff, but they never have enough checkout people. I went one day around 5:30 p.m. - prime time. They had two checkout folks. Another time I hit it at 8 a.m. one checkout person, a line that was 8 deep and several of their staff sitting around. The self-check out is easy, but again, you can score everything from people that know what they are doing to people who clearly have never used anything electronically before - today! As for the pricing - who ever said this was affordable has never lived anywhere else in the country. They are outrageous for the items you get and much more expensive then any place in LA incl. Whole Foods. You can also have a big line of folks, so watch for that. Parking is a nightmare, because there are lots of shops at Waterford. In other parts of the country I have lived, thankfully there has never been a Safeway. I would rate it right up there with White Lion and a grocery chain in Brooklyn, NY - which I cannot recall. WOW..yucky! And what is worse, they are all like that - no wonder their stock is crummy. BTW, their corporate HQ is in the next town, maybe the CEO should walk the stores and see how crappy they are. read more

Saying what needs to be said. This Safeway has gone downhill for a number of reasons. The number of people coming in and out of such a small space is dangerous. It needs to be in a larger space with more access. Especially since it has a gas station. Yesterday was the tip of the iceberg. I entered the line and while the cashier was scanning my items she called someone else in the store and proceeded to gossip on the phone the whole time she was scanning my items and charging my card. Unbelievable. Store is always crowded, lines and wait times are long. Forces customers to self-checkout. I'm tired of seeing customers who are trying to buy groceries and get home to live their lives struggle at the self-checkout for 15 minutes for five items. I dread coming here during peak hours. The closest grocery store is Sprouts which I love but doesn't carry everything. One star for the gas station. One star for the deli staff who always make me great sandwiches, which I appreciate! This Safeway, like most modern ones is OK. This one is fairly clean and the stocking is generally quite good with very few holes on the shelves. Typically there is a good variety of goods/brands to choose from. The fresh produce usually is decent with plenty of it. The meat department is so-so, though not for lack of trying, I think they do as well as the meat they are delivered can do. The Deli is quite nice with two refrigerators devoted with cheese. The bakery is also nice, though they seem to --CONSTANTLY-- be out of plastic bags for the bagels. This is a recurring issue that oddly the meat and produce departments have mastered yet the bakery can't. Perhaps it could be a checklist item for the head of the department to check each day? As with any established long operating grocery store the prices are a touch high sometimes, however the staff usually is nice, courteous and friendly. The gas station is a rather vexing part of this operation, good prices but the station itself isn't located terribly well which leads to LONG lines. Plus the other shoppers there for gas are extremely aggressive. If I see a line at the station I just go elsewhere. read more

This is my 2nd go-to Safeway when visiting parents & it holds different yet equal qualities that the Crow Canyon Safeway holds - which makes me like them both equally This location is much larger than the Crow Canyon which means much more crowded! Timing is key here.... ....especially for the fact there is also a GAS STATION at this location. If you're not super-early, you're waiting in line for FOREVER Mom loves the Potato Wedges & Onion Rings from this location in particular. Seems like they always frying up a fresh batch & Mom says they're just yummier than other Safeways Daddy likes their Jalapeno Cheddar Bread & they have nice big loaves at this location I like the fact there's a huge Nut case that has tons of yummy nuts - my fav being the Cinnamon Vanilla Pecans. Kinda like the Praline Pecans (which they also have) but a bit chewier b/c of the soft coating.
