Outstanding food backed by exceptional service. Difficult to get in for good reason. So much more than just great sushi, the menu is extensive and the staff will both guide and help you through it. read more

I was really excited for this dining experience. I'll start off with the pros; the service was great. Loved our bartender. The ambiance and location is awesome. Very modern and romantic. The food is my issue. We ordered 3 appetizers and got the steak entree and I was still hungry after paying my tab. The portions were tiny which I found WILD after hearing that this was a "shareable" menu. The lychee martini was so disappointing. It wasn't real lychee!!! And the prices are ridiculous for the portion sizes. My steak was really good but that was not a meal. Don't come here hungry. read more

Sado - Waygu steak - $75 for 6 small pieces of meat... - Sushi Bars Near Me - St. Louis, Missouri

Came to Sado with my bestie. The building stands out in the Hill. Love the teal details. Modern inside, dim lighting. We had the masu sashimi 8/10, tiger cry maki 9/10, and the salmon yaki 8.5/10. Our waiter, Jeff, was super helpful and helped us make great choices. Definitely want to come back and try more of their menu! read more

Honestly, one of the best meals of my life. They cared about us. They catered to our needs throughout the entire evening. We felt very taken care of. It was such a special evening. Great for my vegan needs. read more

My sister and I were in the city for work training last week and, since neither of us have had sushi before, we decided to try it. We stayed at Drury Inn & Suites and looked for sushi restaurants close by. Sado was one of the top recommended and I'm so happy we went with our first choice! Upon arrival, we immediately loved the ambience the restaurant gave and how nice it was. Since neither of us knew anything about sushi, we felt kind of clueless when we were trying to order. Thankfully, our server was SUPER helpful and explained everything without making us seem like fools. His name was Kyan and he made the evening so much more enjoyable. We ended up ordering Kanpachi Nigiri, among other things. I was very surprised when our server sent out some extra wild hamachi on the house, very awesome. I think the star of the night was the Brussels sprouts and tiger cry roll - outstanding! Highly recommend, just be sure to ask for Kyan, especially if you're a noob! read more

Have been a fan of Nippon Tei and Indo for a long time so I knew this place would be amazing. And it was exceptional. We sat at the bar, the bartender and all of the servers delivering the food were great. The food and drinks were DELICIOUS. I got the salad (delish), several different kinds of nigiri (the fish was so fresh and perfect) my sister got a roll, she loved it. The drinks were amazing too. Sensational restaurant, can't wait to go back. read more

Everything was great. I tried nigiri for the first time and it was absolutely amazing. We also got two traditional rolls as well as the crab rangoon (which was in the shape of spring rolls but so delicious). We sat at the bar and the two bartenders were amazing and informative. Definitely recommend this spot. read more

Some of the dishes are creative, but the fish itself didn't seem that fresh. The ambiance was like family dining with 80s pop on the loud speaker. The service was really bad. If you're going to be rude at least give me some good food, but the food is just ok. read more

A couple friends and I visited Sado for dinner this week. The Brussels sprouts are an absolute MUST for the table. We enjoyed all the food we ordered. The service was good as well. The inside is low lighting which gives for an intimate vibe. Not sure if this is always the case but the inside was very cold. Would recommend bringing a sweater/jacket. read more

Although I think the quality of the food is high, really great flavors, out recent trip to Sado for a birthday was not really made special. For a bill that ended up being over 600 for four people, I expect the staff to make the details perfect. Among the little misfires, they attempted to seat four of us at a tiny table (when I requested another table they seated two at the first table because it is NOT big enough for four), we asked that our martinis be shaken adequately to make them cold and they were not, we wanted to order a few items before ordering the entire meal and where told they don't do that and we must order all dishes all at once, $25 to cut and serve a small cake we brought but they didn't serve it in the way we requested etc....no one huge problem but a bunch of little irritating things that should have been handled differently. I felt the whole time that we were unwelcome and not accommodating them when clearly they should be accommodating us. We won't be back. The food has great flavors, but the service and atmosphere were not up to the standard of the cuisine. read more

The ambiance was serving, and the food tasted authentic. Also, it my first time there, and the waitress served us Brussel Sprouts on the house. Ngl, I never knew Brussel Sprouts could taste so good and was legit my favorite item (and I promise you I'm not saying this just because it's free). We also got drinks, but they were just okay; they were a bit strong, and we couldn't finish them. But overall, we had a good experience and our bill came out to ~$120 with the 20% tip included. read more

Absolutely lovely solo dinner at the bar tonight. James (and all staff I interacted with) were so friendly and informative. The vibe is relaxed yet polished . The nigiri, steamed bun w/ mushroom and Tiger Cry roll were fresh and bursting with flavor! My cocktail was scented with orange blossom water- like an intoxicating perfume. Magical . I chose the tempura acorn squash with miso caramel for dessert. Well, just perfection. Think of a squash begniet w/ a complex, rich caramel sauce. I can't wait to return- it was sublime. read more

Reserved for a birthday celebration approx two months before. Five days before date they cancelled saying they were closed for Easter, which is fine but then why allow booking and why wait til five days before to cancel? Now it's going to be impossible to find somewhere else to go at the last minute with a group of 6. WTF? I've been here before and thought their level of service was better. After talking to the manager and asking to be booked in the walk in section, they found a spot the following Sunday at a time that was convenient for us. But I had to ask! So hopefully the experience will be as excellent as we remembered it. read more

Atmosphere is very chic and elegant, while still being lively and inviting. Our server gave us a full run down of the menu with some great suggestions! She also brought out 2-3 extra things as gifts for the table to try through out the night that were absolutely to die for! I'm not normally a nigiri guy but when she brought us some Hamachi Nigiri it melted in my mouth and may have been the best fish I've ever eaten! Our favorite dish was the Issan Hamachi it was mouthwateringly delicious. Every bite was better than the last especially with the candied garlic! The wife and I came to the conclusion that it was the best quality food we've ever eaten and we'll definitely be back! read more

If you love this place then I love that for you. The following is based on my ONE experience and is only an opinion. The prices do not align with the quality of food which is mid. Seaweed salad: gooey and sat in puddle of liquid. It's supposed to be slimy but not gooey. Vegan fried rice: Rock hard. Some of the veggies were warm others cold. Salmon and tuna nigiri: Again rice was too hard and dense to be sushi rice. Flavor of fish hidden by weird sauces. Old Yoki Maki roll: Roll was fine. The tempura shrimp was crunchy on outside but a little slimy inside which was not pleasant. The flavor was fine. Tuna roll (can't remember name): Gross. Once again rice way too hard to be sushi rice. The chili flakes in the roll clashed with the cilantro and basil sauce on the plate. Again fish was over powered by bizarre sauces. Non food related comments. Staff is nice. Be prepared to sit elbow to elbow with other tables. Mixed drinks were ICONIC. Give your bartenders raises because they stole the show. read more

Amazing food, as expected. They basically moved Indo's sashimi menu and old nigiri menu over to Sado and added Nippon Tei's make menu and then added a few other things. Overall the food and drink were excellent as expected but I was not quite as blown away as my first time at Indo. One star off for ambiance - it's VERY loud inside and they pack in the tables. We were about 3ft away from our neighbors, which is too tight. No privacy. Much prefer Indo's ambiance. One last thought - I very much dislike that there is not a sign out front. It's pretentious. This is STL, not NYC. There is no need to be too cool for school. read more

We were so thrilled this restaurant was coming to the Hill but once was enough for us. We were served maguro sashimi that smelled bad and tasted worse. It was sent back and instead I ordered ocean trout sashimi that was delicious. Problem was that when you have to send tuna back at a sushi restaurant and then not have the replacement dish comped or a manager come by, that's not acceptable. With high end prices we except the fish to be exceptional. read more

4 stars for food. 0 star for the service. We brought a small child with us. When we asked for a chair from an empty table immediately next to us, we were told no. No other accommodations were made or suggestion of an alternative arrangement. There were plenty of chairs from other empty tables that weren't being used. We didn't ask for it to be put in a fire hazard area, literally in front of a planter. Sushi is good but the lack of service will make me very unlikely to return. Go to Nobu on Delmar instead. read more

We had dinner at 5 pm with this new location. My wife came first with 2 kids because I got off work at 5. She came in 15 mins late because she did not familiar with the location, no parking spots in front of the restaurant, and took time with kids. we still got the table, but after ordering the problem began. The waitress told my wife that we only have 1hr 15 mins to eat because we were late. I came in at 5:45pm and food was already out on the table, my wife told me that our waitress just came and asked her where I was, and we had 1 hr. left to eat and wondered that we had enough time to finish our dinner. I was so shocked. After got 1 piece of sashimi, this rude waitress came to our table for 3rd time and told us we got 45 mins to finish our diner and we needed to pack up any food. My wife was so angry and asked her why you kept telling us how much time left, she explained that the restaurant was full, they had another appointment at 7 bla bla. I asked to talk to the manager. The manager said sorry to us and offered 50% off on our bill. I told her that we did not feel good to finish our dinner and wanted to box up everything. I really did not want to give any tip to this waitress but the 20% tip already charged on our bill. They need to train their servers more, because with 20% gratuity included on bill, we never expect the situation like this. We will skip Sado for a while, but we're gonna come back and hope they will improve their service. Food: 5* always Service: 1* this time Atmosphere: 3* tables close to each other, no private, loud music read more

Sado was a great experience and meal. We tried a number of dishes because as the waiter suggested it's kind of a small plate experience. I am impressed with Sado. I was hesitant at first because I was served a very light wine pour, but the food made up for it. I still think of the crab rangoon and edamame to this day. I got two sushi rolls to split with a friend and they tasted very fresh and flavorful. I also tried one of the Bluefin Toro which was good, but not worth $16 for one piece. Overall, I was impressed but wish the service could've been a little better. read more

Service was outstanding from our waiter Andrew to our bus boy Steven William to the many servers who brought out our plates in such a well timed manner. Four of us started with Hamchi Isaan. Fresh clean Hamachi served with candied garlic in a savory chili broth that was too good to waste so we drank the broth! Then came the Tempura shrimp cooked to tender perfection served with an umami aoili that was so delicious and delicate. A mix of mayo, mirin, miso and likely fish sauce. Not a drop left to waste. The calamari salad was good but the Tiger Cry roll was a big highlight with spicy crab and Hamachi with Thai relish and Thai chili for a kicker on the back-end. The Akani Maki was ok but overshadowed by the hot cooked Salmon Yaki which was a perfect finisher cooked with crispy skin and tender juicy meat. Was so good I could not snap a photo quick enough before the plate was empty. You will love the experience at Sado. A well orchestrated event at every table. And the space is beautiful. read more

Quite obviously the best sushi in Saint Louis. Don't go if you're not expecting to spend a little bit, though.

Literally just got back to our hotel from eating here and had to say how amazing Sado is. We sat at the bar and ordered dinner. Harrison and another nice gentleman helped us. Their vibe was super friendly, kind, and genuinely informative. 10+ Stars for the following things we had: Gyoza (awesome presentation and so flavorful), chawanmushi (Harrison said this is like the ocean giving you a little a hug and he's so right. such good ocean flavors here), akami maki (fresh clean tuna and that cilantro sauce has this thai chili mixed into it where it gets your mouth up perfectly without burning everything out!), tempura maki (classic crunch roll but way cleaner and tasty), brussell sprouts (that gochujang sauce mixed in it, damn!), bluefin toro nigiri (fish butter, so perfect), saba (stronger ocean flavor but fantastic for those who like this, still super clean but it's a heavier flavor for those who may not want that), and finished strong with a few rounds of the "Ito" it's the A5 wagyu nirgiri (this was chared perfectly on the top, cool rare on the bottom and mouthwatering salty, meat and rice all day!). AMAZING Japanese spot in the middle of all the Italian restaurants. I'd be shocked if you truly left disappointed in this place. You could lie and say you've had way better, but you'd be lying to yourself. Come support this great new spot. read more

My partner and I visited Sado on their second night open. As fans of Chef Bognar's other restaurants, we were excited to try something new! Sado is fairly small, with a cute aesthetic but a seating arrangement that will bring you very close to your dining neighbors. It was definitely busy on this night, which did contribute to the overall noise in the restaurant--not unbearable, but also not a place to enjoy a lot of intimate conversation. Our service was good but not great; I'm going to chalk that one up to again this being the second night of opening and general business of the place. At this point, you may be going "well this is a five star review, but so far there have been some small complaints--what gives?" Sado's food and drinks truly are excellent, and absolutely make me willing to overlook other aspects that may have bothered me more at a restaurant with less successful dishes. My partner and I had the Wagyu tartare, chawanmushi, acorn squash tempura, pork belly bun, shibo maki and tiger cry maki rolls, and uni, bluefin otoro, and hamachi nigiri. I also enjoyed the Seoulful cocktail, which was delicious and even my partner who does not really enjoy cocktails loved it. Literally every dish we had was delicious and I would order any of them again, but my particular favorites were the chawanmushi and bluefin otoro. Be prepared to spend some money if you're wanting to try multiple dishes; even for a place that serves sushi, we found Sado to be expensive. Check out Sado next time you're in the mood for some incredible seafood! read more

Excellent food - the recommendations by our waiter were great We tried a few vegetarian sushi and rice. Will go back and try other items of the menu. Sado is located on The Hill, parking is street parking. We had a 5pm reservation on a Friday. We were greeted at the door and seated immediately, the lighting is intimate, but when the place fills up it can start to get a bit loud. We started with the Brussels Sprouts (incredibly flavorful, they use gochujang for flavoring, so tasty!) and the Japanese Pumpkin. (Served in a curry with chili oil, an absolute delight!) Service is super fast, they're really on top of their service chain! Our mains were the Bluefin Sushi and the Wagyu Yaki. The sushi was served with a chimichurri sauce, which I thought was great, but it took away from the flavor of the tuna itself a bit, which was very flavorful! The Wagyu Yaki was insanely tasty. Like morsels of meat butter melting in your mouth. The garlic and seasoning made these bites absolutely incredible. For dessert we tried the coffee pavlova. This dessert has so much flavor, it would be worth coming back just for that! Overall an amazing experience and would recommend. Be sure to book early, reservations fill fast! read more

What can I say about Sado that hasn't already been said? Incredible food, incredible ambiance. Best sushi in St. Louis by leaps and bounds.

Wonderful experience at Sado! Small complaint would be that the dining room was a bit over crowded for my girlfriend and mines liking, felt like we were on top of the two groups seated beside us. Other than that the experience was amazing, our waiter was extremely knowledgeable of the menu which helped a lot as it is slightly overwhelming. We got a few rolls, nigiri, edamame and crab rangoon all of which were incredibly delicious. After ordering, our waiter said they would have the food brought out in the order they thought was best and we didn't argue. The pace at which it was brought out was great, it seemed like as soon as we were done with one item the next was being brought over. Having one dish served at a time really allowed us to experience each dish fully instead of being served an entire table of food at once and not knowing what to eat next! Will be back for sure. read more
