There were many great reviews for this place we decided to check it out... overall it was pretty disappointing. There are many framed awards all over the walls. So we were pretty exited while waiting for our table. Their house salsa won awards and was just too hot to be enjoyable. I can handle spicy but this was just over the top. I would recommend that they offer a milder version as well. The service was exceptionally slow. I will say the portions were enormous and the margaritas and Sopapillas were pretty good. read more

Came through town on a road trip and decided to stop here after seeing it in a Best Of type article. So glad we did! The food was amazing! Portions were HUGE! Shareably huge. Even the kid portion of nachos with beans and asada was large and delicious. Pro tip, their tasty chilis and salsas have heat, and they spread them generously over much of the food. So if you question your tolerance, ask for it on the side so you can slather it on as you please. The location itself isn't bad, but is nothing impressive. The food makes up for it though. First thing I have to mention is the spice level food. More than not, I'm disappointed when I ask for my meal to be spicy... because restaurants rarely deliver. Sadie's definitely delivers and I didn't even have to ask! The food not only had great flavors, my mouth was on fire when I finished eating and I loved it! My husband and I stopped in Albuquerque on our cross country road trip from New Orleans, LA to Modesto, CA. We were looking for something delicious and different from the road food we'd been having on our way. We're so glad the front desk at Nativo Lodge recommended Sadie's. We were greeted with chips and salsa and we each decided on a margarita - and both were very tasty and fresh. I ordered the tamale dinner. It was covered in green chili with beans and salad. I made it a little more than half way through and was as full as I could be. The portions are quite generous! The server also brought along some delightful fluffy sopapillas that we indulged in after our meals. Our server was very friendly and helpful. 15 bucks for a 2 item combination plate and 5 dollars more for one extra item. That's ridiculous no thanks 20 bucks for a plate that costs about 12 most everywhere else. Your foods good but not that good. Maybe if you cut back on the amount of onions you put on each meal you could cut back on costs there. The food is 5 star but new Mexican food should not cost that much, You guys let your popularity get to your head. read more

Awesome food, service, and drinks! We last came to this location in 1997 when it was Garduno's. Passing back through today we stopped to happily discover it was now Sadie's, one of our favorite restaurants back in the day. Thursday night was unexpectedly crowded, and our wait for a table was estimated at 20-30 minutes. We opted to try and find a couple seats at the bar (we were successful) and ordered a couple beers while contemplating the menu. Our bar tender (Ollie) was awesome, providing perfect pours for both of our draft beers. For dinner, I opted for the chile rellanos while my wife went for the combo fajitas. We were provided ample chips and (the infamous Sadie's) salsa while waiting for our meal. The chips were perfect, and the salsa nice snd spicy. Our meals arrived (great portions) along with a plate of sopapillas. My chile rellano plate was delicious, hot, and had incredible flavor. My wife's fajitas were very tasty, but somewhat dry. She loved the guacamole and beans, but couldn't quite get past how dry the meat was. Regardless, overall it was great food and a nice revisit to Albuquerque. As a side note, my wife had a Gold Special Margarita, which she raved about. All in all, a great meal with great service! read more

Stopped in with fam on the way to Santa Fe, looking for "southwest " Mexican. I had the Sadies Tacos which were good but the chicken didn't have any flavor/spice. Hubs did not like it as he felt there was no flavor in the meats. Tried the fried pepper strips that were pretty good. I would go back and try something else. I was disappointed in this choice of Sadie's. The front hostess table was so nice until they offered us a place to sit in the bar and then they quickly got "short" with me when I tried to explain that my parents are religious and don't like sitting in bars. My parents were celebrating their 50th Anniversary. When the manager told us that it would be 30 minutes longer to sit in a non-bar table (even though when we entered 30 minutes earlier, she said it wouldn't be an issue) we caved and sat in the bar area anyway. It took us about an hour to get our food which was obviously sitting under a heat lamp for several minutes because the plates were so hot! I suggested to my cousin that she get a taco because Sadie's makes their own taco shells which are normally delicious. Well, her taco shell was complete mush by the time we were served. They also served my 19 month old son a hot plate. Why would you send a hot plate out to a baby??? The chile was good to me but to my out of town cousins, it was too hot and they couldn't even eat their food. A warning from the wait staff should be given. Our server also tried to take our plates away before we were finished and before we ate our sopapillas. I suggest they tell their servers to let people eat their sopapillas before they take plates so we don't get honey everywhere. Anyway, I've had nothing but great experiences at the Sadie's on 4th but I don't think I'll be back to the one on Academy. It pales in comparison, and I'm bummed that we didn't make the longer drive for my cousins. read more

Couldn't find our online order. Manager was extremely annoying and rude about it. Probably thought we were trying to trick him. Eventually they said they didn't had the ticket taped to the bag, but I suspect it's because we didn't have a tip for a pickup order. This place is the boss of chips and salsa. Especially salsa. You can find the salsa in a lot of grocery stores in the Southwest. They blend in hatch green chili which is why it's so good. They do serve pretty authentic New Mexican food. I think you'll be happy with anything you order off the menu. The only negative thing I have to say about Sadie's is that they lack portion control. While that might not be a negative thing to some people, it just looks over done to me. The plates that are served here are piled high with food, so you're guaranteed to bring home a doggy bag. The service is good. And the dining room floor is clean and spacious. Overall a pretty good restaurant to go to. read more

The service and food were great! It's so much food you won't leave hungry. Tried the coconut margarita based on another reviewer and it was so delicious. I have the stuffed sopapillas and loved that you could pick different meats for each one. Brisket was the waitresses recommendation otherwise I probably wouldn't have tried it with this presentation however it was really good and I had wished they were all brisket. They were called sliders but the portions were huge. I could only finish one full one and then ate half of the others just to try them. The biggest thing for me and Mexican restaurants is the salsa and this salsa lived up to my expectations as well as the green chili. Just enough kick and very flavorful. As someone who travels to NM once per month or business, I like to try different places. Sadie's came highly recommended - so why not? Walked in the front door to be greeted, literally, by 12 employees standing at the hostess station. A little overwhelming, but whatever. As I am taken to my table, I notice another 20 employees, at least. Keep in mind, this place isn't huge by any means but there are TONS of people working on a Monday night. Chips and salsa were awesome - their red sauce is no joke in the spicy department! I ordered the Roberto Special and it was okay. Way more than I can eat...and I ordered the small portion. I love Sadies, but the one here on Academy is just awful. I ordered the chile relleno dinner with green on the side and a dinner salad with the house lemon and oil dressing. The avocado on the salad was half brown....why didn't the server notice this??? The beans and potatoes were dry and crusty looking and the cheese on relleno was cold and already starting to firm back up! I will never be back here, I will drive a little farther to go to the one on 4th street. The 2 stars is because the jalapeño cucumber margarita was great. read more

Ah man! This place is delicious! The Chile is delicious and tastes perfect! I ordered the cup of Posole but I wish I got the big bowl because it was the best posole I've ever tasted in my life! Shhh don't tell my tias lol! The hubs got huevos rancheros and was very happy to have those with actually good sauce because where we're from (San Diego) the huevos rancheros never measure up to this and the sauce is never in point! The egg over easy egg was cooked to perfection. The sopapillas were perfectly fluffy and crispy in the outside soft and pillow like on the inside. Delicious with honey! Overall I love this place and can't wait to try everything on this menu! I'll probably be back tomorrow for some more posole cause I was literally dreaming about it it was so good! My first stop in Albuquerque is always one of the Sadie's. This time it was the Academy Road location. First up, chips and salsa...plenty of great chile heat. Compared to the TexMex salsa I'm used to, this was quite ... well, hot. Delicious, granted, but I had to be careful not to scoop too much salsa on a chip. I ordered a vegetarian meal, a soft burrito stuffed with delicious beans. I barely could get through 1/3 and took the rest home. My wife ordered Sadie's Shredded Chicken Enchilada. She loved it but had to take half back to our hotel. Some have said it has taken a while for this newer location to meet the high bar of the original, but we preferred the layout and location of the Academy location. read more

Best chips and salsa in Albuquerque...hands down. We have other pretty cool places to eat NM food in Abq however, not all of them do it right in the "chips and salsa" department like Sadie's. Why would you put out store-bought Sysco/shamrock supplied chips when you can easily make your own? Sadie's does a great job in making a very simple but great tasting thin corn chip and paring it up with rock'en salsa. Amazing. The food portions are huge - they're known for this but once in a while, the carne and/or the chicken can taste a little bland/vanilla. Not are why, and I swear I'm not trying to be hypercritical, but why is this? I've eaten a lot of enchiladas and some places take the time to season/flavor the meat for the inside, not just relying on the sauce and cheese covering the food to showcase the flavor. That said, it's a good place to eat - Consistent and the service is always pretty solid. I've had a few bad servers but I wouldn't judge This place based on a few lazy people. For the most part, it's a great place to go for an easy NM meal. Great place to take hungry outta town-ers. read more

This is the Sadie's closest to us. The food is the same at all three locations: huge, hot, and homemade. I always get the nachos, size small because even the small is enough to feed five people. Heaped high with chips, ground beef, beans and enough cheese, guacamole, and sour cream to choke a horse. Delicious. And did I say huge? Enormous. Satisfies my nacho craving like nowhere else. Husband gets the carne adovada burrito and the kid gets the cheese quesadilla. Everyone has leftovers and potbellies when we leave. Salsa is blazing hot, the way we like it. The service is spotty here... Like the servers more at the location on 4th. For whatever reason, they are obsessed with seating us by the kitchen, to the point where I have to specifically ask "table not anywhere close to the kitchen" when we arrive, and even then, we usually get the table second-closest to the kitchen. Sometimes we get an awesome server, and sometimes it takes ten minutes for anyone to notice we are at the table. Deducting a single star because I figure the staff is probably in a food coma, too. The place is clean and squared away, the food is absolutely delicious, and the service from Mr. Chris was outstanding.
