Great food, Great Atmosphere, Outstanding service. A historic place for a memorable evening in NYC!

It feels like a classic NY Italian joint from a lost era. Founded in 1989, it also has elements of NY's 1940's and 1970's with the posters on the basement walls and the shiny ceiling engravings. The walls also resemble subway tiles that feels like an extension of the lower level of Grand Central's oyster bar. The food was really satisfying, hearty southern Italian style pasta and pizza. The red sauce is more tangy than sweet, which I appreciate. The pasta is good, and the free bread is top notch. The prices are fair given the large portion size. The service is prompt, and the waiter will make recommendations if asked. And the ambiance is unique and interesting (see the first paragraph). Would love to host a party here, there is a large backroom that can hold about 50 people. Definitely stop by to see the decor and get some classic NY Italian eats! read more

I really wanted to like this place because I had heard good things, but unfortunately it just wasn't for me. Let me start with the positive -- the service was great. Our server was very attentive, friendly, and on top of everything throughout the meal. No complaints there at all. As for the food, it was honestly very lackluster. The best thing we had all night was the small original pizza, which I actually really enjoyed. The crust and flavor on that were solid. Unfortunately, the spaghetti with marinara sauce was a huge disappointment. At $22 just for the pasta, plus an additional $4 for ONE meatball, I expected so much more. It ended up being a $26 plate of pasta that, in my opinion, had almost no flavor. I kept wanting seasoning, salt, garlic -- something to make it stand out. It was just very bland. My husband ordered the polenta starter with shiitake mushrooms and bolognese sauce, which was okay, but nothing memorable. For the three food items, one cappuccino, and a sparkling water, the bill came to about $110 with tip. For that price point, I expected to leave impressed, especially after hearing the hype. A time was had. I had a wonderful time at this Italian restaurant. My mini highschool theater reunion was kept here. The ambiance was very nice, and intimate. We had a private section reserved, and it was very cozy. The food is something to talk about. I got the lobster ravioli, with shrimp in a creamy white sauce. It was rich in flavors and thickness, and so yummy. The bread was fresh and lightly oiled. The burrata salad was so good, also very fresh. The fried calamari was top tier and also the artichokes. The customer was stellar. They were very quick, and recommended their best sellers. It was nice to see familiar faces, and catching up with everyone. I will definitely return. read more

Located write next door to Kaufman Studios is this Italian restaurant. You actually walk down a flight of stairs and you are greeted by a grand open space. Our server Javier was top notch, by helping us pick our dishes when we were left indecisive. His choices did not disappoint. My friend and I had the lasagna and it was delicious. I came here for a first date, and my date surprised me because he knew I love pasta -- which was such a sweet gesture. I was really excited to try the place, and it didn't disappoint. I ordered the chicken linguine and calamari, and both were delicious. The portions were generous -- I couldn't even finish everything. The ambiance was nice and chill, and since we went early, it was pretty quiet, which made it even better for a first date. Quite an evening here at Sac's on a Saturday with live music. Great voices all around, but most importantly tasty food and friendly service. Waiters are dancing, having fun and super attentive. The starter bread was warm, house made and fresh. Great intro before our appetizers arrived (stuffed poblano peppers, burrata cheese, and eggplant rolatini). All great, my favorite was the poblano pepper it was a bit spicy which I love. I had two Pinot Noir glasses but they do have a full bar, crafted cocktails, and also sell wine by bottle if you prefer. Went with the large Margherita pie to share and was quite stuffed already just off of two slices. Large comes with 8 slices to big enough to share with a large group depending on how hungry you are. I'd give it a 6 rating on the Dave Portnoy Barstool Sports meter since there was no flop on it, but still flavorful. The limoncello cake was my favorite dessert, wasn't quite a fan of their cannoli but the cake was moist and homemade with hints of lemon. I told the guys there that I needed a pie ASAP. And they jumped right in, to help me with my situation. LOL. I got a pie really quick. Ate it really quick. I went for Sac's happy hour a few backs back and was pleasantly surprised. All apps were half off, so we order a flatbread (regular cheese and very tasty), along with their fried calamari which were perfect and scrumptious, not greasy , but light and flavorful. Wine was also $6.00 a glass. The selection was small but the wine was good and just the right accompaniment on a Friday after a long week, with the right price. My friend and I enjoyed the food, always have at Sac's but this was the first eating at their new location on 36th street and 35th Ave. It is a lovely, and romantic place. Restaurant week Winter 2022 - finally made it here after recommendations from several friends. Friday night, 2 people, reserved in advance. The staff is nice and attentive, as is the owner who we met. Nice space, I found it to be warm and inviting and the tables weren't right on top of each other. Bread for the table - the foccacia bread is my favorite. The food was delicious and really good portions especially for restaurant week prix fixe. We had the seared artichoke and the grilled sausage - I would come back JUST to get that artichoke again! Entrees - baked salmon, spinach fettucine with shrimp. I thought the salmon had more flavor. I originally was considering ordering a vegetble side a la carte but after the appetizers I would not have had room for it. Plus we still had dessert coming The gelato and the tiramisu were both amazing. I believe the gelato flavor we chose was called rainbow cookie - YUM. Sac's Place is the best restaurant in NYC and there is no better pizza than at Sac's Place. The owners and staff are incredibly accommodating and provide a restaurant experience that makes you feel like you are eating in the Sacramone dining room. Also, the dining area and large gathering area for parties are inviting, fun and a place to have a great dinner for two. Sac's Place may also have one of the most beautiful bars to relax and hang that I have ever been to. I have been a customer at Sac's Place since they were located on Broadway and 29st and their pizza and sauce alone make them my favorite restaurant and now with the outside bar and entertainment, they continue to be the best restaurant in NYC! read more

Ate there recently and found the place horribly overpriced. Food is goo but not worth the expense. Plus hit one of those nights with live music and overall terrible musicians. Only once did I ever hear a decent group. So if you like overpriced food and regurgitation of the Top 40 hits from the 60's - 80's sung badly and overamplified, then this is your place. Came here twice so this was my second time. The service is pretty great and the manager is so nice. He comes around and asks around how everything is and is very personable. We ordered the pizza and I can tell it is homemade dough and really yummy. Ordered the classic pizza with toppings. The small size is basically a personal size. Had baked clams the first time and that was so tasty. Also, got the Linguine with little neck clams in white wine sauce the second time visiting. No sand in the clams and the pasta is handmade. Looking for a place for lunch or dinner this is the place. Retro 20's/30's interior offers a unique ambiance. Service was extraordinary. Staff courteous and professional and the owner not only made us feel very welcome but provided interesting facts and history on both the restaurant and the studio. Food was delicious but the home made pasta raviolis were out of this world and should be missed. In fact all the dishes were prepared to perfection. Terrible service. The restaurant was empty and wait staff was chatting at the bar casually while we waited. Water took over 10 mins to be brought to our table and we had to ask for menus. Finally, we decided to leave after 2 other tables had their orders taken before us. We arrived prior to both. Given the lack of volume at the restaurant, there's no reason for such poor service. My family celebrated 3 birthdays at Sac's Place on Saturday and it was wonderful! We were a party of 18 and they did a great job accomodating us. I like the ambiance of their new location. I used to go to Sac's way back when they used to be on Bwy by Crescent st. I used to LOVE their pizza. A buddy of mine used to always joke around saying that they had the ugliest looking pizza (I am gonna spare everyone from what he used to compare the looks of it to, lol! I am literally laughing as I remember those times as I am typing this), but one of the very best as far as taste! Their menu was not very extensive. Service was friendly and speedy. I was happy with my linguini white clam. The lobster ravioli was a bit too cheesy and a bit on the saltier side (as it was the consensus since everyone tried everything at the table). The pizza was not as good as I remember it. The dough was too dense. The crust was not enjoyable. BUT! their pizza bread (and the other triangular cut bread) was amazing! No offense to the chefs there, but I'd have rather had a whole pie of that pizza bread instead! read more

Used to go to the original broadway location often throughout the years. A very good pizza and one of the better places in Astoria to come too. The new outside location across from Frank Sinatra is a really nice setup... highly recommend coming... drinks were good too. read more

I've been meaning to try this place for 5 years after hearing about it from my friends. I ordered delivery from here once, when it was still at its old location, and it was very disappointing - not bad, but didn't get the hype, so I figured they didn't present well when doing delivery. Came here on a Wednesday night at 6PM, and it was pretty empty. We got the Fried Calamari, Mama's Old Fashioned with sausage add-on (small), and the Butternut Squash Cheesecake (seasonal) - this was definitely enough for the two of us, and they provided bread as well. Calamari: 3/5 - It was fine, a little bit on the "breadier" side, but nice and crisp. Friend added loads of red pepper flakes to the tomato sauce, which is a nice kick and a nice tip that I'm going to remember for the future. Pizza: 4/5 - This was great and way better than the delivery when piping hot. Cheesecake: 1.5/5 - It tasted very "healthy", with very pronounced squash taste, but it was not rich enough for my liking. Dip it with the olive oil & yum! Safe to say, we def had more than one basket haha! We ordered baked clams, fried calamari, eggplant & chicken parm, gnocchi ragu, penne a la vodka, chicken in mushroom sauce, lentil soup (usually not a soup gal but one of my favorite lentil soups EVER) -- my favorite dishes were the baked clams & gnocchi ragu! So tasty! Gnocchi was homemade & melted in your mouth! As far as desserts, WE GOT THEM ALL & do not regret it a single bit. They were all homemade except the gelato so we HAD TO. Tiramisu, lava cake, apple pie, cannoli & we got the flavor rainbow cookie for the gelato! They were ALL SO AMAZING! I'm still dreaming of the Apple pie's crust! All of the food was FANTASTIC, service was GREAT - will definitely be coming back! Prices are a little higher than average but so worth it! I've been coming to Sac's probably since it opened and used to be located on Broadway and 29 street, loved it then and still love it now! Never a disappointment. Owners Anthony and Dominic- always a pleasure. Service is great, food is amazing, the pizza is brick oven and has a unique taste over all your generic pizza places. Fresh mozzarella is used for all they do- not any of the packaged stuff. They have been at their current location now for quite some time and I love going there. It's classy, spacious, and they even have a room for larger groups. I recently celebrated my birthday here for lunch and everyone was much pleased with my choice of restaurant. Today we had the absolute pleasure of eating at the out door terrace of Sac's Place at Kaufman Movie studios. Baked stuffed clams, basil pizza and handmade gnocchi... every thing we ate was great. They didn't miss. Drinks were great too. Service was awesome, super attentive and cordial. The owner was there, and came over to talk to us, super friendly guy... gave us the background info that many of the recipes on menu are his grandmother's and go back over 100 years. Love the pizza! The best! However a recent order of BROCCOLI DI RABE included a lot of garlic. Crunchy garlic. Once I removed the garlic, and re cooked the broccoli , it was better....... Interesting place in Astoria. Went for a Sunday luncheon and was pleasantly surprised for a little joint. ENTRANCE - this is kind of a pizzeria plus place. By that I mean a traditional New York local pizzeria that also offers a few restaurant dishes and a small specials list. MENU - needless to say a number of build your own pizza options. In a way it is kind of fun putting it all together. We also ordered a risotto dish and a shrimp with spinach fettuccine entree. PIZZA - excellent. Nice thin crust with a beautiful char on the bottom. Got bacon and mushrooms to test wetness. Bacon great and mushrooms super fresh. Note: mushrooms did not make pizza wet. ENTREES- very good overall. The risotto was cooked perfectly and the side dish ordered of broccoli rape was super perfect. No bitterness and flavorful. SERVICE - we were the only folks in restaurant and got super great service. VINO- there is a very small bar. Tried a Cabernet definitely stock fair taste but $9 PRICE - really not bad. The base pizza was $18 so with toppings low $20's (large size and really large 16" to 18"). BILL - total with tax and tip for 3 people $95. BTW if you pay cash you get a 10% discount. read more

I've been eating pizza from here ever since I was a little kid back when they were at their old location. I'm 31 now and they still sell one of my favorite plain slices in all of NYC. The quality of ingredients and the way they drizzle sauce on top of the cheese before cooking in the oven makes their slices stand out from other NYC pizza in taste and texture (in my opinion at least lol). I've tried the other slices too (white slice and Sicilian slice), which were all fantastic. They even sell the same cream soda that they did in the 90's that goes great with their pizza.
