Sabre Springs Optometry has been my go-to optometrist for a few years but I stopped going after one incident. During a prescription sunglasses fitting (and after I've paid ~$300), the logo piece of the side fell off - and this it's with gentle handling. The aid who was doing the firing saw it happen too. I told her that I didn't want this particular one but would like the same model. She said ok and will talk with the manufacturer. One week later, I went to pick up the sunglasses only to find out that they sloppily super-glued the logo back on and that there was nothing else they can do about it. No exchange or refund. Straight scam for selling cheap glasses. read more

Since we frequent the I-15 side of San Diego often, we decided to try having our annual eye exams down here! We were very happy with our previous eye doctor in Santa Monica but they don't take our current insurance and we had been unsuccessful in finding a new place that we are happy with around West LA. We are very happy with Dr. Nguyen and their practice. The staff were cheery and pleasant and Dr. Nguyen is very knowledgeable. My husband and I received some very helpful insight and advice during our last visit. Dr. Nguyen also does pediatric care so we will likely be bringing our kids in to have their eyes checked here in the future. read more

They used to be okay but in the last year they have really gone downhill. No one answers the phone. Overall just really frustrating.

I'm still visiting Dr. Lau at this office for my annual check-ups, mostly just for routine exams since I don't need much beyond basic checks. Earlier this year (Feb-May 2024), I got fitted for contact lenses here (I've some astigmatism), and the overall experience was decent but a bit mixed. The fitting process spanned around three months, which is considered longer than expected. It took some time to find the right fit, and I tried different lenses, including older hydrogel tech (Acuvue Moist) and newer options like Acuvue Oasys 1-Day and the Dailies Total1. The Dailies were promising due to their advanced material (silicone hydrogel), which allows more oxygen to reach the eyes, making them healthier, especially with the daily replacement, and their Water Gradient + SmarTears technologies. Unfortunately, they didn't stabilize well on one of my eyes and kept shifting around with each blink. During the fitting for the Dailies Total1, Dr. Lau tried to assess the stability by shining a light into that one eye for what felt like a long time (~1-3 min) and tried "forcing" the lens to stabilize, which left me a bit uncomfortable for the rest of that fitting session. Not sure how necessary all that really was. In the end, I went with a year supply of Acuvue Oasys bi-weekly lenses, which are working fine but weren't my first choice because while they are silicone hydrogel technology, they aren't the safest modality (wearing schedule). Because of my preference for daily lenses, the doctor mentioned a unique suggestion to try bi-weekly in one eye and daily in the other. I passed on that since it seemed a bit too complicated for me. On the plus side, the doctor mentioned a $100 rebate on the Acuvue Oasys, which I applied for myself. Staff-wise, there was some turnover during my visits. One assistant was very helpful with my initial fitting wasn't there the next time I came in. There was also a slightly off-putting interaction with a different assistant on the phone, which I brought up with Dr. Lau, who said she'd address it with her team. All in all, Dr. Lau and remaining staff were generous with free trial items--she gave me some extra contact lens cases and several travel-size bottles of Biotrue solution, which was appreciated. I'll likely continue coming here, though I hope for a smoother fitting experience if I try other lenses in the future. read more

Super friendly staff. Doctor was so pleasant and took time to answer all my questions I got contacts and glasses read more

Michelle at the front desk was very informative and kind. Dr.Nguyen was just as kind and informative. Very easy to talk to both of them. Definitely recommend this place for your eye examinations. Thank you guys! read more

Very disappointed how my issue with replacing lost my glasses and the prescription that was used, I could not see away and I could with original glasses. My insurance wouldn't authorize another eye exam till Sept 2025. So Sabre Springs scheduled an appointment for me giving them time to appeal to my insurance for an earlier exam since I can't see. When i didn't hear if insurance approved it I called several days before appointment and the person i spoke to didn't answer me if insurance was covering exam, just kept asking if I wanted to keep appointment. I finally just said, ". please cancel the appointment" I actually thought I would get a call about this, but I did not. So I called and asked for my original point person and she wasn't available so I asked for her to call me. She never called me. This was handled so unprofessionally. i still couldn't see. i went to another optometrist and was told the prescription on the replacement glasses was for close up and computer. No wonder why I couldn't see. I paid out of pocket for another eye exam and for another new pair of eyeglasses. read more

Dr. Nguyen is wonderful and their staff is super accommodating! With covid restrictions, all activity, even if it is just to pick up a pair of glasses, requires an appointment to allow for social distancing. I have medi-cal VSP and I went to them for glasses and contacts. The glasses eye exam and glasses were entirely free with medi-cal but because the glasses for the medi-cal contract are made by the women's prison, and covid restrictions are causing space restrictions at the prisons, the wait time for them is really quite long and that is absolutely no fault of the optometrist or staff. I paid extra for the contact lens appointment and got my prescriptions for both. I highly recommend Dr. Nguyen! read more

I just started going to Sabre Springs Optometry based on the positive reviews I had read and they did not disappoint!! Dr Lau was extremely kind and helpful, and patiently answered all of my many questions (namely regarding light sensitivity and astigmatism). I wish I had seen Dr Lau years ago because the change in my prescription has been life-changing (aka way less headaches)! Also the front desk staff is video very kind and helpful as well. Would highly recommend Sabre Springs optometry! read more

I came her recently to get my eyes checked out. It's been a while since I went to the optometrist so I'm due for a new prescription. It was easy to make an appointment online. They are very fast and responsive. I came for my appointment and the whole thing went pretty quick. Talked to the dr and got my eyes checked out. I just came for the eye exam and didn't get glasses here. They didn't pressure me to buy from them either so that was nice. The staff and dr was very friendly and easy to talk to. The dr was very knowledgeable and answered all my questions and concerns. I was able to get in and out in less than 30 mins. I'll be coming back here for my future appointments. read more

Dr. Janice Lau is really thorough and who is a very warm and friendly Doctor Who cares about each and everyone of their patients. Kim who runs the front of the office is a famous retired rockstar and most people don't know about this but I do. Of course I can't tell you who she was but she is genuine and charismatic and has a laugh that will penetrate your soul and Sabre Springs optometry is now her stage. I want to thank everybody at Sabre Springs optometry for taking care of myself and my family as we are moving to Arizona at the end of this month And I don't wanna forget Michelle who is a new addition to the team as warm wonderful and has a great sense of humor and is customer focused. read more

I really cannot describe how impressed I am and do it justice. Wow. Just wow. I am used to being upsold, or treated less than due to our insurance. Not once did either happen. Kim is just absolutely delightful. Super friendly and makes you feel so comfortable. He really knows his stuff and helped my daughter choose glasses that would be good for her. Haha he even vetoed a couple, and as a teenage girl she got a kick out of that! Now Dr. Nguyen is so nice! Very thorough, and has a great 'bedside manner' per se'. Explains what shes doing and why, etc. I will be scheduling appointments for the rest of the family! read more

I have had a hard time finding a decent optometrist in the area that I liked and trust. Dr. Nguyen was the best and made me feel comfortable the whole time I was there. She had plenty of options for me to choose from. I ended up with a great new pair of glasses and sunglasses that I love. She was very friendly and the office was put together nicely. If you are looking for a new optometrist, I highly suggest you visit Eyeconic! You wont be disappointed. read more

We were vacationing in San Diego and forgot our sunglasses. Turned out they just opened recently and this place is awesome. They had a huge selection of sunglasses. My wife found this awesome pair of Maui Jim and I snagged this classic Rayban. They weren't that busy considering they just opened. Dr. Nguyen actually helped us with the selection herself. She's really friendly. Kinda wished I live in San Diego so I can come here for my eye exam. They have all the new fancy equipments! Thanks for the awesome sunglasses and friendly atmosphere. read more

Looks like there's two optometrists in Dr. Nguyen and Dr. Lau working at this office. First off when you walk in you see the place is very nicely decorated. The walls are covered with frames to try on as well as the tables with display cases next to them. There is definitely a selection to choose from here (Ray-Ban, Nikes, etc.) The exam itself was quite painless. Dr. Nguyen saw me and she is a very friendly person that made the exam pretty easy to get through. She takes the time to explain the process and what is going on with your eyes. I picked out a nice pair of Ray-Ban frames for myself and the turnover time to get them done from the lab was quite quick. I had MES insurance and they do take that. Parking was easy to find in the plaza (with the Arco, AAA) and it's conveniently located off the 15 freeway on the corner of Sabre Springs Parkway and Poway Road. I'll definitely be back here again for my annual eye exam. read more

The staff here are super honest and awesome! They're also great with children which is a plus in my book.

I had been looking for new eyeglass frames for months, and I not only found one pair here that I love, but I found *two* pair. I needed frames on the smaller size for my high RX...close to 46s or 48s, which are hard to find nowadays, but my online search and Kim (spelling OK?) helped me find them. I feel like my experience with Eyeconic gave me the best of both worlds -- easy online shopping and helpful in-store service by looking online at eyeconic.com and coming into the store. I immediately liked the feel of the store -- nice and bright and not too overwhelming a selection... just right. Kim was very attentive and patient, showing me frames that truly met my specs (forgive the pun), and listening responsively to my admittedly-sometimes-changing requests. Thanks, Kim and Eyeconic! read more

I just picked up my new glasses today. The staff here is fascistic. Not only did they take great care of my new glasses but they did a full cleaning of my old pair so I'd have a clean pair of back ups. Great selection, made sure I got all the bells and whistles I could and just made or a super simple process. Highly recommend! read more

I've been wearing glasses since the 1st grade and I'm 47 now. I learned more about my eyes in just one visit with Dr. Nguyen than I did I the last 40 years! Kim the glasses tech took measurements that nobody has ever done before to ensure that my new lenses will be exactly right. Glad I found this place. Great experience! read more

I am extremely impressed with Eyeconic Eye Care! My brother suffered from a stroke about a year ago. He has been having difficulty with his vision and needed a proper eye exam rather than just readers. I took him Eyeconic and they were amazing! We met with Kim and Dr. Lau and they were both wonderful! Kim was extremely kind and professional. He helped to position and transfer my brother from his wheelchair into the exam chairs with great gentleness and care. Dr. Lau also displayed the highest level of professionalism, kindness and care. Her exam was both thorough and informative. All of our questions were answered and extremely helpful recommendations were given by Dr. Lau. Kim was so patient with us as we navigated our way through choosing the right frames and appropriate options. He was able to help guide us to a place where the glasses were affordable yet very high quality - not an easy task for anyone, especially with my endless questions :) We highly recommend Eyeconic Eye Care!!! Thank you Kim, Dr. Lau and Dr. Nguyen!!! read more
