Dr. Yang and her team here are amazing! I have a busy work schedule Mon-Fri as a nurse, so finding someone to cover me for appointments is nearly impossible. On Tuesdays Poway Optometry is open late, so I called to try and score a spot. They are booked out for MONTHS, but they were kind enough to put me on a waitlist in case a Tuesday evening appointment canceled. Fast forward like 2 weeks and sure enough - I got a phone call for a cancelled 5pm appointment. Booked it over there so fast, and I'm so glad I decided to wait instead of go somewhere else! Every single staff member is incredibly friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Dr. Yang is so great at explaining everything they are checking and the rationale behind each part of the exam. It's such a welcoming atmosphere and they also have a great selection of frames for prescription, reading, and sunglasses. As a recent resident of San Diego moving from Philly with my family I had put off getting new contacts and glasses. I have VSP for vision insurance so I started my search on the VSP website and looked for the top VSP PREMIERE status doctors in my area. I loved what I read in the reviews about Dr Diane Yang's professional background, yet personable care. I get a lot of anxiety about my eyes and haven't taken the best care before having VSP for coverage. I typically went to big box stores avoiding private practices for fear of high costs. Having read about the excellent staff my expectations were high. Boy did they not only meet but exceed those expectations! Mykie, who handles testing, was the first super-friendly voice I spoke with via phone and she worked with my difficult schedule to set an appointment. I would rather wait to get in for my appointment then have them overbook and have a long wait at the visit. All my visits were smooth and there was plenty of time for all patients. In fact, they seemed to be spaced out so well that I never felt rushed. Caylie, the front office manager was wonderful as well as I had a couple visits to follow up with my contacts and glasses breaking up my visits due to my busy schedule. Caylie was always in contact via text, phone, and email to keep me in the loop! She also made me aware of any rebates I had coming my way as well! As for Dr. Diane... I can't say enough. She talked to me rather than down to me during my visit so I would understand the choices before me since my vision is a bit complicated. I also opted for the 35.00 eye scan, which assuaged any concerns of if my eyes had any health concerns. I had hoped to get progressives for my contacts but my vision doesn't allow it so she recommended what's called mono-vision. It works perfectly for me allowing me to both watch shows like Wandavision, while looking down at my phone and reading any texts!, despite not having progressive contacts! I did get glasses with progressives and this was probably for me the biggest concern since I have never had success with feeling comfortable with glasses and bad luck. This caused me to abuse my contacts wearing them all day. Sandra worked with me to find the perfect fit and look and my coverage allowed many of the perks I wanted like transitions and progressives. My frames also hid my frame thickness that is reduced but is still thick--yep, it's that bad! I didn't meet Sandra to the very end of my visits and she really capped of my experience on a high note! Through her high level of professional knowledge and customer service I am finally comfortable wearing glasses and fitting in with my fellow pop culture geeks:) And when I need to take off the glasses to switch to contacts I know I have a special power-- "mono vision" to see what challenges I face at work,home, and play both far and near! Although VSP is how I found Poway Optometry I would also recommend anyone without insurance to still make an appointment because Dr. Yang and her team of super heroic staff are miracle workers! Dr Yang is great, she always patient and explains what she is doing and why. I have a really bad astigmatism and a tricky prescription but i always leave informed and confident that im getting the best eye care and prescription. The equipment there is new and modern, staff is friendly and helpful. When choosing frames i was asked what shape and material i was looking for, with that said, they scoured through their entire selection and brought me 30 or 40 different frames to try on. I even chose some that were woman's frames. I was told, "those are for women." i figured glasses are glasses right!? I tried them on anyway.. Yep they were right, they were they looked very feminine. Guess i should have listened. I finally decided on a pair, they really know their stuff. A few weeks later when the glasses arrived they adjusted the glasses to fit my face and head. Perfect fit. They are located in a decent size strip mall so there's always lots of parking. Poway Optometry is not in my neighborhood and a bit out of my way but well worth the drive to receive quality service and care. read more

As an engineer I always admire efficient and well optimized processes, so I don't make the following statement lightly: my visit to Dr Yang's office was the most efficient healthcare experience of my life. From walking in the door to walking out I was idle for less than 20 seconds. The front desk staff was professional and courteous, the technician who did my initial evaluation was immediately available and explained the tests well, and Dr Yang was thorough, knowledgeable, and patient. She answered all of my questions and inspired full confidence in her abilities as an optometrist. The woman who helped me purchase new contact lenses following the exam knew all the insurance figures off the top of her head and was honest and direct. I am an RK patient and so my prescription varies throughout the day but Dr. Yang is unfazed by this, she is happy to do the measurements twice so that we get excellent vision correction for both morning and afternoon. I have been coming here for several years, mainly because it is conveniently located near where I live. Dr. Yang is qualified, and does a good eye exam. The exam rooms are clean. I didn't really appreciate the attempt to upsell a contact lens exam, when I specifically said I didn't want one. The selection of frames isn't very large. There are really cheap ones, and there are really expensive ones - no real mid-priced ones. I was looking for RayBans, but they don't carry this brand. =( The optician who was supposed to "help" me pick out frames wasn't very helpful. So, I just went about the office trying on all the frames that I thought was cute. I settled on a pair of the expensive ones, since they fit, and did not feel heavy. It took two weeks for the glasses to be finished. Is this amount of time normal? I somehow remember some places in the mall advertising they can do this work in an hour or so... but anyhow, I was excited to pick up my new glasses. The lenses were smudged and I kinda expected them to at least look over the glasses and wipe them before I picked them up! I just thought that would be automatic for anyplace selling glasses. Anyway, what irritated me most was that my expensive glasses didn't even come with a matching case!! They came in a generic, 70s era case that was falling apart when I opened it to inspect the glasses. WTH. I'm not materialistic or a brand-whore, but when I spend $$$ on something, I expect it to be great quality and to come complete. I had to request the matching case, which was a bit frustrating. I'd like to try another place next year, for comparison. read more

I can't say enough about this Optometry office. Everyone who works there are professional, knowledgeable and one of the most important thing that matters to me is customer service. And that they have! I came in with my broken glasses. They checked to see if it was under warranty. Turned out it was. They were able to replace my lenses with a new frame, and I was set. This is by far the best optometrist office that you can come to. Dr. Yang doesn't make you feel like she wants to hurry you out of the office she takes time and explains everything I highly recommend the retinal Imaging so you can see the whole eye. The staff is amazing and they treat you like family from the moment you walk in the door and they take time and listen to you if you want to talk and ask any questions. Due to an insurance coverage change we had to switch eye doctors. It was for a number of reasons it took us over a year to find a new optometry 'home' and in the process of looking we tried a few 'cost effective' options. Costco - which isn't bad but not very customer oriented, Walmart - hmmm, and Lenscrafters - not so cost efficient afterall. After recently getting serious about researching optometrists within our plan we found Dr Yang's office. Because of the patient load I had to wait a couple weeks for a visit but once I got in the visit, care and service was excellent. From the check-in, check-up, to check-out I was given focused attention from everyone. If anyone is looking for a new eye doc, I'd recommend this clinic. I didn't see Dr Yang so I can't speak to her care specifically but the overall experience was one that will have me returning for my next check up. Dr. Diane Yang is amazing. I had Lasik surgery over 10 years ago, and thankfully, I still have 20/20 vision and have had little to no need to see an Optometrist since. Well, I know better than that. Your eyes need an annual check up, just like the rest of your body. Sheesh, I pay for the damn insurance. I should use it, right? My hubby suggested Dr. Yang, as he has been going to Poway Optometry for the past few years. I'm so glad I listened. Dr. Yang really takes the time to do a very thorough assessment. She makes you feel at ease and answers any and all questions you could possibly have. She doesn't try to sell you anything you don't need, so you know she genuinely cares about you. Been a regular for 6 years now, and I am very happy with the professionalism, efficiency and courteousness of Dr. Yang and her staff. I visited today in the context of COVID measures in place and am happy to say that they are doing all the right things in here. Everyone is wearing their masks, are methodical about using sanitizers, and cleaning all surfaces we come in contact with with bleach and sanitizers ( door knobs, chairs, equipment surfaces ), with nary a hint of the inconveniences this extra work is causing them. I could easily sense a smile in their faces behind the masks as they went about their work. I really appreciated that. Dr. Yang, as usual, is very patient with answering my questions and, as always, I come back assured that she and her staff are there to take care of our health and needs. read more

I have needed glasses and contacts for the past 22 years, and lived all over the country, so I have seen a LOT of eye doctors. You want to see THIS ONE, Dr. Diane Yang, because I hated everyone but her. Here's why: Most eye doctors seem friendly, but when it's time to determine your prescription, it is always rushed. Five minutes, ten minutes, "A" or "B"? Okay, good, get out. Not Dr. Yang- she spent a good long time discussing the nuances and details of each power of lens to dial in my prescription PERFECTLY. It feels like life is in high-definition for the first time. No one else has invested time getting my glasses just right like this. It cured my chronic headaches, so I am eternally grateful. No upsells. It was a pleasant surprise to receive no pressure to spend more than necessary on lenses, contacts, or extra exams I didn't need. Very good hours and availability- this helped me a lot as I work long hours. I had an eye emergency and Dr Yang went out of her way after-hours to make sure I would be okay. Saved me a trip to the ER. So, the flawless service, amazingly accurate prescription, and kind, relaxing atmosphere and attitude merit 5 stars. I think you will agree! read more

It is a Tuesday and they are supposed to open at 11am. I have been calling for the last 45 minutes and I am getting an automated "our office is currently closed" message even though it states that they open on Tuesdays. They are so difficult to reach over the phone. Update: So I decided to just visit the office to make an appointment and they apologized for having issues with the phone system. I guess Dr. Yang just came back from maternity leave. They provided very good customer service and were able to get me an appointment for the next day. Dr. hang provided outstanding service! She is the best eye doctor I have ever seen. She took her time to really explain everything to me and made sure to answer all of my questions. She showed me the pictures of my eye. You don't have to have 20/20 vision to see that Dr. Yang and the staff at Poway Optometry are amazing. Something that sets this place apart from other optometry places that I've been to is that it doesn't feel like an optometry office. I just got back from my yearly exam with Dr. Yang and Co. and realized that it was like a good shopping trip. You get in, you get out, you are done. See you next year. Boom. From the initial appt. booking process, you are assisted very courteously by Tina at the Front Desk. I actually had to reschedule a couple of times and Tina was always accommodating. She also gave me plenty of options and called the day before to reconfirm. I just love when places do that right? Sometimes you forget. I know the onus is on me to remember, but sometimes the "speed of life" doesn't allow you the chance. Poway Optometry is located is off Poway Road in a shopping mall. It's pretty unassuming. There is also plenty of parking and a Petco next door to boot, for those of you that have pets. The establishment inside is always clean and comfortable. It's not a work of art nor does it feel like an institution. There is a separate waiting room with magazines and miscellaneous with which to preoccupy yourself. I was brought back initially by Dr. Yang's assistant Michelle. She had a great personality and put me at ease. Went through some perfunctory tests and then on to see Dr. Yang. If I could describe Dr. Yang in one word it would be professional. She has a great energy with no pretense. If you are a human being or if you have ever been to a doctor who has a case of megalomania, then you will instantly notice how relevant and refreshing Dr. Yang is. The time flies fast and before you know it you're all done! But she always asks if you have questions. One of the great things that happened yesterday too is that after my exam, Dr. Yang, personally helped me out to pick some party favors, i.e. glasses frames and contacts. Ok, you know that with Doctors a lot of the time they see you and then send you on your merry, or "unmerry" way to be processed by some ancillary subordinate. Nay, rather Dr. Yang really is committed and shows that she has not only a good business sense but also a good work ethic by taking an active interest in her patients from start to finish, something that all good business minded people know and practice. Lastly, Dr. Yang is somewhat of a fashionista. I consider myself pretty savvy on how I want myself to be perceived by the public in terms of appearance. Dr. Yang asked me if she could pick out some frames that she thought might work for me, instead of having me continuously troll around in vain for something I thought might be appealing. I assented a little nervously. She took all of 30 seconds to select what were probably the best frames I've ever seen on this mug of mine. What a talent. I cannot express what a great place this is. Good people, good business. The location is not too convenient for me but when you get good service it's not hard to see 20/20 on the matter. read more

I do not live in the Poway area but work here. I was looking for an optometrist and happened to stumble upon her office. I read the reviews on yelp and decided to make an appointment. The staff was very pleasant, there was hardly any wait, and the office has a great selection of glasses. Dr. Yang was WONDERFUL! She was so kind and answered all of my questions. Dr Yang is kind, patient, and explains everything really clearly and step by step. It's not like other Optometrists where you just go in and they kick you back out with a pair of glasses. I've been a patient of Dr. Yang and Poway Optometry for several years now. I first came to Dr. Yang with a very specific issue. My contact lens were so uncomfortable to wear that I wanted to gave up. Every time I would blink my lens would slip and move around. I knew it wasn't a matter of fit I would toss them and use a new pair each day even though they were suppose to last two weeks. Dr. Yang was quick to diagnose the problem. She told me that I had giant papillary conjunctivitis. She thoroughly explained to me what it was and answered all my questions. I followed Dr. Yang's instructions on how to address the issues that I was having. I can now happily say that I have successfully and comfortably worn contact lens without any problems for as long as I've been under Dr. Yang's care. I really love that Dr. Yang takes into consideration her patients' work schedules. She is so accommodating. I work M-F, 8-5 p.m. When I need to go see my primary care doctor or dentist - I always have to take time off work - which I hate to do. I absolutely love that when I have to get my eyes checked, I have the option of coming in after work on Tuesdays since the office is open until 8:00 pm! Dr. Yang's staff has always been great. They are efficient and helpful. I am very surprised to see a "one star" review for Poway Optometry. I've never had any problems with Melanie (or any of her staff, for that matter) and I'm sure the other reviewer's negative experience is an isolated incident.
