this place replaced what used to be thaiverse, near dupont circle park. The ambiance is simple and easy on the eyes. there's great natural light from the windows in the front, and top notch people watching. The service is great, very friendly and nice. I honestly really wanted to like this place, under previous ownership and this current one. I've only tried it under the Sabai name once, so i definitely can't say for sure-- but I do feel like something is just missing from the food. I got the panang curry with tofu, and while I did somewhat enjoy it, I know it could've been much better. It was lacking flavor, and the tofu didn't really absorb any of the curry taste. I will say, the spice level was perfect and exactly what i was looking for. My friend got the eggplant tofu, and seemed to enjoy it. It was fried well and came with a side of rice. I certainly won't be writing Sabai off completely, I just think other thai places in the area (simpannee and thai chef street food) are a little better. This place is new, and it always takes a bit to get things off the ground. I'll look forward to trying it again down the line! read more
