I ended up ordering the Ube Hojicha, which was super awesome! Matcha has been the new "it" thing lately, I know, that's why I went for the hojicha instead. I like to go against the crowd. ;) Awesome service, my order took almost 10 minutes, but that's normal for food truck business. Besides, the wait is fine when the product is great! I've been eyeing this spot for a while. They go to various locations but they seem to be consistently at UH Manoa on Monday and Wednesday mornings. I would recommend checking out their Instagram for their weekly schedule. I saw them when I was at the village night market at Pearlridge, the one every Saturday night. I ordered the combo plat with lemongrass fried chicken and chicken curry. My friend was the one who wanted the chicken curry so he seemed to enjoy it. It was alright to me, the chicken pieces were tender and the curry was loose & creamy, not strong in taste or spicy, reminds me of any other thai chicken coconut curry. The lemon grass chicken was fire, it was crispy and flavorful. They were small wings though, but each bite was packed with flavor, and the chili sauce was a must have combo with the wings. I also really liked the salad and the dressing it was very good. My friend ate most of the rice with the curry so I don't really have a comment about that. I would definitely recommend saap saap, and I am planning on trying their lao sausage the next chance I have. read more

What a bonus, happen to be at the family fair event, Bishop Museum which was put on by Hawaii USA FCU, this event also included a bento. After enjoying our bento dinner, I walked around looking for some desserts at the food truck and came across Saap Saap's HI food truck. I was already stuffed but ended up trying the mini bowl of purple rice & sausage bowl ($7.), OMG... Wow, the flavors was Saap Saap! & more stuffed, didn't make it to desserts. Not knowing anything about the business, while at the event I searched Yelp page and read some reviews and photos, bookmarked, follow the Saap Saap's Instagram page for their schedule, I kept trying to attend one of the pop ups but didn't work out until finally it happened! On Friday, 7/25. They were at the Calvary Chapel Food & Craft Fair, out in Aiea. It was so worth the drive! After walking around, I head straight to Saap Saap, I also got there early as I was worried they might sell out (yes. that good!) I really wanted more Lao sausage and purple butterfly pea rice, I got the combination plate with upgrade to papaya salad for $2. more. The plate is steep, comes out to $27. (taxes and upgrade) but it is so yummy & worth it, I treated myself, for such a long work week! Excited I finally got Saap Saap food again, I loved my plate, the flavors of the sausage, purple rice, Lao Fried chicken and papaya salad. I could just taste the freshness, spices, the flavors, it was a major flavor explosion, while enjoying my plate. My very first time trying the butterfly pea rice and wow, I loved it , cooked perfectly & so fragrant! Happy I had some leftovers which, I made a salad and added the sausage & papaya salad to it. For my future visits, I want to try the rest of the items Saap Saap has to offer, curry and the braised pork with egg & also the drinks are so colorful in the cute bucket. It's hard to find good Laotian food. So when I saw this food truck had at a night market I had to try it. Kinda bummed they were sold out of the Lao fried chicken. I got the red chicken curry and Lao sausage plate with an upgrade to papaya salad. Food came out pretty quickly and portion size is pretty good. I love the papaya salad. So flavorful but it does pack heat. The spice level reminded me of my besties papaya salad. If they had papaya salad as a side order, I would have bought more to take home with me. After strolling through the Mari Garden Summer Fair, searching for something to eat, my eyes caught sight of the bright blue butterfly Jasmine rice from Saap Saap HI's food truck. "Saap Saap" is a Lao phrase that means "very delicious." And everything on the menu seemed like it would be exactly that. I ordered the combo plate with the Signature Lao Sausage and Braised Pork ($23), upgraded to get Papaya salad ($2) and got a Viet Iced Coffee ($8). The highlight of the plate was the Lao sausage. This small business food truck is a must-stop every time I see them pop up at fairs around the island. I eat this so often, it's about time I should write a review! Saap Saap specializes in Laotian food, particularly Lao sausage. Ever since trying this, Lao sausage has become my favorite kind of sausage. It's made with coarse-cut pork and packed with aromatic herbs like lemongrass. Their sausages are so flavorful that I can eat a ton of rice with each one. The business offers plate lunches of their sausage, braised pork and Lao fried chicken, which are all amazing. Plates come with blue rice and green salad or papaya salad (recommend). They also make a variety of teas, which I haven't tried yet. For more bang for your buck, get their Lao sausages packaged frozen to cook at home. I tried Saap Saap out at the Moiliili festival and it did not disappoint! I was looking for a place with yummy looking food and a relatively short line and Saap Saap fit that description for me. They have kind of a simple menu. The plates come with salad and blue rice. I thought it came with papaya salad, but it was a regular green salad. The dressing was good but I would have preferred papaya salad like the picture on the menu. The rice was good and I order the sausage and fried chicken combo for $23. I thought it was pretty pricey, but the sausage was so good and flavorful. The chicken winged were crispy, but kinda hard to eat at a place without tables and chairs. I also got a mango lilikoi drink which was sweet and refreshing. I could tell they used real fruit syrup and I appreciated that. They also have a lot of teas and sodas that looked interesting. The drinks are a little on the pricey side, too. But it's kinda normal for events like this I guess. The food came out fast and the people working were nice. I'd definitely come back to this place for the sausage again. I noticed they had a small bowl of rice and sausage for $7. I like that they offer a snack size haha. True flavors of Laos. So good in fact that I haven't had anything this aromatic and explosive in flavor except at a Laos friend's home. Outstanding Sai Oua (Lao sausage). Purchased raw (vacuum sealed package; 5/$20), grilled over charcoal on one occasion and broiled on another. Extremely juicy. Excellent balance of coarse ground pork and pork fat and starchy sticky rice. Aromatic AF! Loaded with lemongrass, galangal, lime leaves, sweet shallots amongst other things with just the right umami kick of fish sauce. Great use of fresh chilies to ratchet up the heat. Beyond anything I've had in a brick and mortar eatery. Other less traditional dishes also burst with the classic Laos flavors. The well made spring rolls once again with a good fish sauce umami kick and aromatics. The dipping sauce that comes with bursts with fresh chili flavor and heat. A creative crawfish curry with eggplant and bell peppers with a side of Gram worthy but basic butterfly pea colored rice and a side of papaya salad compliments all the Lao flavors well. Recently, I snagged a plate while they were parked at the UH Mānoa Campus--seems like they're there Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays for now. But don't worry if you miss them there; they're regulars at pop-ups across the island! Even better for UH students: they offer a special UH Student Plate at a sweet discount. This time, I went big with the large combo plate (two protein options). I chose their famous Lao sausage and fried chicken, and let me tell you, it was definitely the right play! The Lao sausage? Easily the best I've ever had--bursting with flavor from the fish sauce and packing a nice kick of spice. As for the fried chicken? Perfectly crispy, juicy, and seasoned to perfection. Saap Saap, hands down, has the best Thai tea boba. It has been a long time since I've tasted nicely brewed Thai tea, and I absolutely love how chewy their boba is. After continuously ordering the same drink. I finally decided to try their food. The pork belly that is used for their buns tastes like it could be the same braised pork belly that's on their menu. I may have waited a little longer than I should have because the liquid from the pork belly made the bun a little too soggy so when I picked it up the bottom tore apart. I wasn't too fond of this because it tasted a little bland (compared to my own braised pork belly, so it doesn't mean it wasn't good), however the Lao sausage and fried chicken was yummy. The sausage had a lot of familiar southeast Asian flavors and has a bit of a kick to it. The papaya salad was different to me because I'm used to Thai papaya salad, but it was definitely more fun than eating a tossed salad; and definitely get the sticky rice, which I forgot to order, but you can never go wrong with sticky rice. read more

I've been looking for some authentic SE Asian foods outside the normal Thai place my family goes to. When I stepped up to the Saap Saap food truck, I knew I had to try their house made sausage. BAAM! I ordered 2x bao buns with pork belly, and while waiting the workers handed me and my bf a sample of their Lao sausage it was good 10 out of 10 in my rating. The bao buns with pork belly were topped off with pickled vegetables ( carrots & daikon ) it was the best , put a little hot sauce on it and it's good to go . The fried chicken and Lao sausage was amazing. The sausage was not dry at all and tasted better the second day. The fried chicken was extra crispy and light . I really enjoyed it with the fish sauce on the side. You also get papaya salad which as you can guess very good. I am happy they are at the Kaiser night market. read more
