Had it from the food truck outside of Patagonia for a Friends of Kewalos event, and it was pretty good! I shared a portabello katsu and a pork katsu sandwich (not pictured) and both were fried well with soft bread. The pork was a bit dry at times, and the sauce was standard delicious katsu sauce. Got to try them out at the Kakaako farmers market. We ordered the burger and chicken katsu with egg (this week's special). The burger was good and the patty was cooked well but the sauce was a little strange for us. While we finished the burger, we wouldn't order again. The sandwich was very hearty. The chicken katsu was so tender and even with the egg salad and the drive home, the chicken managed to stay pretty crispy. The bread was amazing and definitely the highlight of the sandwich. My only complaint is that this sandwich wasn't seasoned well and was pretty bland. Even just a little salt would go a long way. A thick piece of tonkatsu (fried pork breaded in panko) paired with shredded cabbage and just the right amount of tonkatsu sauce, all sandwiched between soft Japanese bread. Took me a while to finally try this place and what the heck took me so long. The katsu sando here is delicious. The tonkatsu is thick and nicely breaded paired with a layer of cabbage and between two slices of shokupan. The katsu burger was also tender and juicy and so good. But the most surprising winner of this food truck is the fries. I prefer the furikake fries over the curry fries but they are both crunchy and packed with flavor. It is a little pricy and there is almost always a line but I think it is definitely worth checking out. All was amazing, the pork is juicy & thick (not tough) and great sauce, portabello is thick & meaty. Furikake fries amazes me how they get the furikake to stick to the fries, also ordered extray crispy and got that. Love the bread they use. Be prepared to wait for your order at least 10-15 min as they prepare it as you order, but so worth the wait. You will love the fresh made to order sando. Who doesn't love farmers' markets? Such a mix of different vendors coming together to provide for the community and vice versa, the community supporting local vendors! I've never been to the Kakaako Farmers Market and the number one reason I decided to finally go was to try the Tonkatsu Sandwich at Katsu Sando 808. I've been seeing it on social media and wanted to see what the hype was about. Writing this today, I've been to the Kakaako Farmer's Market a bunch of times now and have definitely brought some of my friends along to try the IG famous katsu sandwiches. Depending on the time you go, the line could be very long or no line at all at Katsu Sando 808. The farmer's market runs through 9am - 12pm and I've notice that towards noon, the line isn't as long. Don't go too late, or they will run out. I've only tried their tonkatsu sandwich, which is the pork katsu, but I do plan on trying their chicken katsu sandwich. Their tonkatsu sandwich is very moist and has the perfect crisp. It comes between two fluffy slices of crustless Japanese bread and a helping of shredded cabbage mixed with katsu sauce. At first place, it doesn't really look like a huge sandwich, but their tonkatsu is thick and makes for a really nice snack. Highly recommend if ever at the Kakaako Farmer's Market! read more

Been seeing tonkatsu sandwiches all over social media so I decided to check this place out. It was my first time going to Kakaako farmer market and it was a lot bigger than I expected. Their food truck was at the corner end of the market if you walk from the parking lot near Ward Theatre. For my first order, I tried 'Chicken Katsu Sando,' and 'Wagyu Menchi Katsu Burger.' They were so good that I came by again the next Saturday and tried the 'Tonkatsu Sando.' Chicken Katsu Sando: Such a good sandwich. The chicken katsu was crispy and crunchy. The breading was not oily. The chicken meat was juicy. The sauce and the the cabbages were light so it doesn't overpower the flavor of the meat. Wagyu Burger: A good burger. The size was bigger than I expected so after eating the chicken sandwich, I was already pretty full. The meat was juicy and flavorful. Inside the patty was cheese. The sauce was sweet tonkatsu sauce. Tonkatsu (pork) Sando: This sandwich looks just like the chicken but just different meat. Compared this with the chicken, I prefer the chicken katsu sando. This was still good though, just the meat was on the chewier side. Overall, a very good katsu sandwich place. I went around at 10:00 and waited no more than 10 minutes for my order. I just had their tonkatsu sandwich. I thought it was good, but probably not worth waiting 20 or 30 minutes for. The bread was the good Japanese soft bread. The katsu was good, not dry. What it needed was more sauce or something. It tasted exactly like what you would expect but still, it was missing something. I really love the bread they use; soft and fluffy to balance out the crispiness of the meat. It comes out relatively quick for the demand they have to meet: 15-20 minutes but I usually walk around anyways and order from other vendors. Made to order Katsu Sandos!? Sign me up!! This pop-up shop is located at the Kakaako Farmer's Market. This farmer's market is a bit hidden. It's located across the street from the Starbucks on Ward's parking lot! This place only has 3 things on their menu: 1. Tonkatsu Sando ($10), 2. Chicken Katsu Sando ($9), & 3. Japanese Egg Salad Sando ($5). I came with a friend and decided to get one chicken katsu sando and one tonkatsu sando. The first thing I noticed was, they only use the best bread from Epi-Ya! (IYKYK!) The second thing I noticed was, each sandwich is made to order! Definitely getting a freshly fried chicken/pork filet! In the meantime, they cut off the crust of the Japanese white bread and a bed of thinly shredded cabbage with either tonkatsu sauce (on the tonkatsu sandwich) and a spicy mayo on the chicken katsu sandwich. We walked around the farmers market for around 10-15 minutes before returning. Within a couple minutes of returning, our order was ready!!! We couldn't wait to taste it!! I must say, both sandwiches were JUICYY!! The bread was soooo soft and didn't get soggy at all! The cabbage was crispy and the sauce was tangy. Definitely, was taken back to katsu sandos in Japan! I was so sad when I returned to the Kakaako Farmer's Market the following week and they weren't there! I was really looking forward to getting my hands on another sandwich! I attempted to go on the second week of opening in which I heard they sold out pretty quick (an hour) on their first week which is amazing since this is a lunch item that sold out at approximately 9 am! Do note to bring cash. Which is why I'm giving this 4 stars. It's 2020 and cash only ... (face palm) well maybe I'm partially annoyed because I had to drive all the way home to get cash and drive all the way back (I don't have a atm bank card,btw) Prices are moderate and no more than 10$ each. I tried the tonkatsu and egg salad. The tonkatsu was the best. The egg salad was just ok i kinda don't like relishy stuff in my egg salad so that could have been why I didn't care for it. I took my food to go but they don't have proper containers for it. They put plastic wrap over it and it barely sticked. They're also located in the kakaako farmers market in Saturday's only. However, this could change due to corona virus and everything is shutting down. There is also ample parking in their garage or the lot right next to it. If you can't find the place just use ohana market place as an guide to where it is. Because it's just right across from it in a empty lot. Just look for all the tents. read more

My husband's go to is the pork katsu sando, I liked it too. But recently I discovered the chicken katsu sando, that has became my new favorite! The chicken one has a little spicy kick which I love, and I think chicken katsu is more tender than the pork. We have yet to try their egg sando because it always sold out by the time we got there(normally 9:30am-ish), but we were told you can reserve it via their website or IG for pre-order. The Wagyu Menchi Katsu from here was out of this world. The meat was super soft, juicy/flavorful and held together well. The bold Japanese mustard flavors really helped the wagyu menchi katsu shine. The chicken katsu sando was also good but I think I'm team tonkatsu over chicken katsu. Gave in to the hype and got myself a tonkatsu sando at the Saturday Kaka'ako farmers market. After a quick Google search I found out that you can do a pre-order and pick up through a link on their Instagram page, very convenient compared to standing in line. Also, be aware that they are cash only! Hopefully they expand to accept card payments in the future. I want to say that I lucked out because I've seen and read other reviews where the tonkatsu is smaller than the bread but you can obviously see that wasn't the case for me lol. Although the crust wasn't fully cut off from my sando, the bread was so soft and fluffy that I felt the need to hold the sando carefully with each bite. At first glance the tonkatsu seems dry but rest assured that that was not the case (I waited til I drove home so I didn't take the picture or eat it right away as other people suggested). The pork cutlet was both beautifully thick and juicy, the katsu sauce was satisfyingly tangy, and I'm sure the cabbage would've been just slightly crunchier had I eaten it right away. Here I was thinking I could eat half for breakfast and the other half for lunch but I promise that you will not be able to have that willpower because I gave in immediately lol. This place made me addicted to katsu. Most of my coworkers think katsu is my favorite food because of how much I go here. I try to get my katsu sando fix once a week. They are at Kakaako Farmer's Market every Saturday, from 8AM-12PM (located at the back art wall!) Most days, they start selling out around 10/11AM so I try to do my preorder online. They make the best katsu sandos out of every place I have tried so far on the island. If you have base access, they're also on base! But I'm not lucky enough to have access. The workers are the sweetest and we usually talk story if they aren't too busy. The line forms pretty quickly though. It's worth the wait! I've tried pretty much their whole menu. My fav bounces in between the chicken or the pork. Their pillowy soft bread is from Epi-Ya which is another place I love. The chicken is usually more consistent in terms of size, however the pork can sometimes be thicker/juicier than other days. No matter what, I'm always happy to get both! The menchi katsu burger is stuffed with cheese in the middle. Delicious! And the egg sando is always the first to sell out. They offer specials sometimes such as the portobello mushroom katsu sando and spam katsu sliders. Make sure to check their IG @katsusando808 for updates. Hm, I thought I reviewed this business before....but, this seems to be the official and claimed business page. As regulars to the Kaka'ako Farmers Market, we started to check out this food stall since late May 2020 . Almost every Saturday morning, we've come by to pick up either a tonkatsu (pork cutlet) or torikatsu (chicken cutlet) sandwich. The Katsu Sando 808 stall is located at the far West end of this farmers market , near the corner of Ward Avenue and Ala Moana Boulevard. Knowing that Katsu Sando 808 specializes in 4 items only, we predetermined our order to be: 1- Tonkatsu (pork) Sando $10 and 2-Chicken Katsu Sando $9. Also, we were prepared with CASH to pay for our purchase as this stand only accepts the bucks, moolah, or kālā. NO PLASTIC cards! During this pandemic, everyone who is either a customer or vendor at the famers market is required to PROPERLY wear a face mask. Also, social distancing is encouraged and often enforced while you wait in line. We noticed how clean and well-organized their food stand is with its set up with one woman managing the orders and cash, two guys manning the fryers and one guy assembling the sandwiches. After paying for our order, we were informed that there would be a wait as they bread with panko and fry the cutlets (chicken or pork) to order. It was such a hot and sunny Saturday morning and the cashier invited us to enjoy the shade under the tent while we waited. I told my husband that I wanted to check out other vendors while he waited for our food and I wandered off to get kūlolo or haupia. After getting the haupia, I returned in time to meet up with my husband who just received our takeout. FOOD: -Tonkatsu (pork) Sando: A flavorful, tender, and perfectly breaded and fried 1/2" thick pork cutlet was sandwiched between 2 fluffy slices of Japanese white bread. Of course, the bread crusts were cut off to emphasize the uniformity of the bread shape and promote convenience. The sandwich maker laid a layer of freshly shaved cabbage on one side of the bread then laid the tonkatsu atop followed by a squeeze of tonkatsu sauce. He cut the sandwich in half before gently putting it into the takeout container. I was unnecessarily worried that the tonkatsu sauce would have made the bread and tonkatsu soggy as it DID NOT as we took our sandwiches home to eat. $10 -Chicken Katsu Sando: The chicken katsu (cutlet) was also evenly breaded with panko. It was tender, juicy, and flavorful. Unlike the Tonkatsu Sando, there was a spicy aïoli or mayonnaise that gently moistened the bread and kicked up the flavor of the fried chicken cutlet. Again, the Japanese white bread had its crust removed which made for a pillowy bed or pocket for the airy and crisp katsu. $9 We waited about 15 minutes before we got our freshly-cooked sandwiches. Luckily, we were able to enjoy the shade under their tent while waiting. I think we were fortunate to have gotten to this vendor at 9 a.m. during our current Stay At Home Orders as we were waiting, a long line formed. Now, we're looking forward to seeing Katsu Sando this coming Saturday because we're interested in trying their other 2 menu items (Korokke or croquette and Egg Salad Sando). We'll be back! read more

When we ordered our food (around 11:00) there were only about two items that were sold out by then. Luckily, the tonkatsu sandwich was still available! The staff have an efficient system going- place your order at the white pop up tent with the cashier, the runner will hand your order to the cooks at the tent, and the runner will run for your order and hand it to you. Everything is made to order, and my order took about 10-15 minutes to finish during the mid-morning hour. 1. Chicken katsu sando ($9): super juicy interior and crispy exterior with a savory katsu sauce. Sandwiched between two fluffy/pillowy pieces of Japanese bread, it's bliss. 2. Tonkatsu sando ($10): also juicy interior and crispy exterior. This one is def more savory, given that 'ton' in tonkatsu means 'meat.' Best sandos I've had on island so far. As much as I enjoyed the Tonkatsu itself, the $10 price for this sandwich was a little steep. Presentation is beautiful and appetizing. I believe I got the last order available the day I went which speaks to how fast they sell out at the Kaka'ako Farmer's Market. The one item that pulled the experience down for me was their bread. To me it tasted like plain, local grocery store bread where as my expectation was for fluffy flavorful Japanese style bread. When the main ingredients of the order was the Tonkatsu and bread, I just expected a little more from this $10 sandwich. Maybe I hyped it up a little too much for myself... Found this sweet gem outside of the Hickam exchange (near the parking lot). I was on my way to grab a sandwich from Subway when I noticed the food truck outside. I've always been a fan of Japanese sandwiches, specifically for the Uber soft bread! The menu is quite simple. I've enclosed a picture of it and it's literally all of the menu items the truck offers. I ordered the chicken Katsu Sando and was pleasantly surprised. Not only was the bread soft, the Katsu was crispy and warm and was far from oily. The sauce they used was delicious and complicated everything within the sandwich nicely. Very delicious! I will be stopping by again to try out their wagyu menchi katsu burger! Stopped by a while back during the Kaka'ako Farmer's Market and had their signature Tonkatsu Sando. The pork cutlet was thick and juicy with a nice coating. The soft Japanese bread, tonkatsu, shredded cabbage and sauce all combined into a wonderful sandwich. It's made to order so expect a bit of a wait, but it's worth it to get it fresh. read more
