I made my first trip to this location for Triangle Restaurant Week. A gentleman held the door open for me, which is admirable on such a cold night. I took a seat at the bar and quickly got my glass of house Pinot Noir. The bartenders were attentive and pleasant despite the busy atmosphere on a Friday night. He asked if we wanted bread, of course the answer was affirmative. We got a basket of four warm breads: 2 white pieces and 2 multi-grain pieces with raisins snuck in. I mean there is a time for raisins, but not in a breadbasket at a steakhouse! The bread also came with a ramekin filled with copious softened butter. For my first course, I went with the shrimp and sausage gumbo. This is the only place I've ever seen that brings you the bowl with a little white rice in the middle and them they pour the gumbo around the rice. Presentation really does go a long way. Course 2 was salmon filet and spicy shrimp. It was sort of a sweet and spicy Asian plate. I did get a bite of the petite filet mignon which came in their famous sizzling butter. Really good quality beef. And their creamed spinach is not to be missed. I liked that it was a little bit thick, it wasn't a lot of cooked spinach swimming in a thin soupy liquid. I ordered a slice of cheesecake for dessert. It came with a lot of fresh berries and a drizzle of berry gastrique. The cake was not overly dense, like some can be. I'm not sure what they used in the crust but it was much better than the standard graham cracker. Might have been graham cracker plus something else as the base. Good cheesecake! The meal certainly wasn't cheap, but everything was prepared very well. read more

I'm kind of torn between 2 and 3 stars for this rating, but I ended up picking 2, just because of the multitude of issues that occurred during our visit. We came here for Valentine's Day dinner, and unsurprisingly, it was packed. We had a 6:45 PM reservation but they didn't call our name until 7:05 PM or so, which was pretty reasonable given the holiday. Unfortunately, they took us back to the dining room and discovered that our table was actually occupied - not sure what happened there, but we stood there for a minute, listened to the staff bicker a bit, and then we were taken back to the front for a few more minutes while they figured things out. Not a giant deal, but they weren't particularly apologetic and it was kind of an annoying start to what was supposed to be a romantic night. We were finally seated and even though there were a lot of people there, the tables were spaced sufficiently far apart that it didn't feel cramped. Our server was reasonably present throughout our meal - I would have preferred her to check in a little more frequently, but of course she was insanely busy so it's hard to fault her too much. Ruth's Chris was running a prix fixe menu, but I honestly found the layout super confusing. Normally, with a prix fixe menu, it's a fixed price (say, $75) and you select something like 1 appetizer, 1 entree, and 1 dessert for that price, maybe with a few upcharges if you want paired wines, a special entree item, etc. It's also generally a menu catered to the occasion in some way. Here, I'm pretty sure it was the regular Ruth's Chris menu, but there were astronomical prices next to each of the entrees ($76 for chicken, for example), and it took me a minute to realize that this entree price included a soup/salad and a side. The menu did include a brief explanatory sentence at the top of the menu, but I just feel like they could have laid it out more cleanly. Also, all of the entrees had different prices, so how was it really a prix fixe menu? Not to mention, I compared the prix fixe menu prices to the regular menu prices, and I'm pretty sure they just combined the normal cost of the salad and the side with the cost of the entree to get the prix fixe price, so I don't really understand how it's any different than using the normal menu. Anyway, rant over :) I ordered the 8 oz petite filet, while my wife got the ribeye (and shared some with me). We both got Caesar salads and shared the cremini mushrooms and mashed potatoes as our sides. In general, the food was tasty, but unfortunately they brought broccoli instead of mashed potatoes and we had to wait a long time for them to fix the mistake. The food was also way overpriced - for example, my wife's salad, ribeye, and side of potatoes was something like $108. The Caesar salad wasn't bad but nothing extraordinary, and both steaks were very tasty and cooked medium rare as requested. I enjoyed the cremini mushrooms a good deal but the mashed potatoes were just decent once we finally received them. The beer selection was OK but not great, with only two options on draft and a few domestic and imported bottled beers available. The prices were also kind of outrageous, in that the rotating tap draft was $15 for a pint. We finished our meals and then gave our ticket to the valet (complimentary!) to grab our car. It took them quite a long time to bring our car and the valet was kind of rude to us. Overall, I can't imagine coming back here. The food wasn't bad but for the price point, I would expect it to be even better, and there were quite a few other negatives, as highlighted above. read more

My partner and I came to Ruth's Chris this past Saturday because he had been given a gift card. This was our first experience at Ruth's Chris. I was able make a reservation online - it said at the bar at 6:30. Now, I know on a Saturday evening we're not going to be sat exactly at 6:30. That being said, we weren't sat until 7:00. Bless our server's heart, she was clearly busy. And it seems that Ruth's Chris requires the server to actually place your food on the table and the runner can't do it. So multiple times she would drop everything and go serve another table. This at first bothered me because we had to wait so long for water that I ended up grabbing the carafe and pouring it myself. Eventually, we were able to place our orders. We got the barbecued shrimp for an appetizer and then each got the Ruth's Chris special, which is a pretty good deal. The barbecued shrimp were good but there were only 5 of them and I think the appetizer was close to $20. For the special, you get a salad, entree, side, and the chef's special dessert for $60. I chose the house salad, the filet with shrimp, garlic mashed potatoes, and the dessert was a carrot cake ala mode. The house salad with salad dressing was good, the steak and shrimp were a little overcooked - and Ruth's Chris doesn't have any dipping sauce other than A1, the mashed potatoes were delicious, and so was the dessert. My partner got the same thing as me except he got the scalloped potatoes ($5 up charge) and those were also delicious. Overall, the food was fine, the service was good, and the ambiance was very nice. We have tons of good steak houses in Raleigh, so I am unlikely to ever return here, and I think I would have been more frustrated if I didn't have a gift card for the dinner. I am putting 4 stars but feel this experience overall is closer to 3.5. read more

First 3 star review - normally would get a 5 as they have consistently been over the top w service and food prep, Mothers Day was a different mismatch of mistakes altogether. 1:30 reservation, got there and told they were running behind - seated 15 minutes later, not a big deal, waiter was attentive and quick with water, bread/butter and that's where it slides off the tracks, first drink order came out wrong, but no big deal, liked the drink anyway - ordered and apps came out quickly, then came the hour plus wait for the main ... waiter came over and said they were running slow, then came back 15 minutes later and said he got the mgr involved, mgr came over and apologized and said drinks were on the house, 30 more minutes before the steaks finally came out - plates not sizzling, steaks done "ok" - all around us, tables not getting their correct order or in a timely manner --- not penalizing them completely as it was a packed house, just disappointing to pay $250+ for subprime service and mediocre done steak/meal presentation. Wife and I have eaten here for Thanksgiving last several years. Found it much easier than cooking. No cleaning just enjoying and nap after. Wife had the traditional Thanksgiving turkey, dressing etc. VERY tasty and large portions. I varied this year and tried the Chilean Sea bass. WOW, this dish was incredibly delicious. However, I'm disappointed to say that when you advised me to call, there was no indication of who I should speak with. Since you were the one who responded to my review, I specifically asked for you but was informed that you handle customer relations and are not located at the restaurant, which I understand. My issue is with the follow-up process that occurred afterward. I initially called on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, and was told a manager was unavailable but that I could leave a message and would receive a call back. I did so, yet I never received that call. When I called again today, I was connected to a manager -- who happened to be Dav, the very person my review was about. While he did ask if I preferred to speak with another manager, I proceeded under the impression that he may have information to relay or an update regarding my prior complaint. Unfortunately, the conversation went much like the interaction during my visit. Instead of resolving my concern, Dav became defensive and argumentative -- repeating nearly the same statements he made that evening. When I realized that nothing productive was coming from the discussion, I requested to speak with another manager. However, rather than transferring me or offering a solution, he continued to debate with me over my personal preference and the restaurants standard for how a steak should be prepared/cooked, which was the core issue to begin with. To clarify, the steak was only paid for after we returned the check and requested to speak with him again because no adjustment had been made. He previously said he would "take care of it," then disappeared from the table without explanation. Within five minutes, the server returned to say he was "in the restroom" and handed us a revised check -- an unusually quick turnaround that raised further concerns about how this situation was handled. Even after I referenced your earlier message -- which implied I could speak with any manager -- Dav insisted that any manager on duty handles reviews, continuing to talk over me instead of listening. It's concerning that a manager at Ruth's Chris would repeatedly engage in back-and-forth arguments with a dissatisfied customer rather than demonstrating professionalism or accountability. I was informed that the calls are recorded, and I truly hope this interaction is reviewed and used as training on what not to do when addressing a customer complaint. Special recognition to Dav -- not only was my birthday experience poorly handled, but today's follow-up has left me questioning the customer service standards of Ruth's Chris entirely. Went here for Father's Day 2024. Enjoyed the ambiance, the decor was really nice and classy. The wait staff was superb, friendly and attentive without being too obtrusive. All things you want when you know you're going to spend a small fortune dining here. But what about the food? Overall, it was good with a few underwhelming items. The malbec was good. A solid B+. My wife's mocktail was perfect. She gave it an A. My wife's steak was great! Definitely worth the price. Her filet mignon was just the right portion size and the way it was grilled was spot-on. Definitely an A. My 12 oz ribeye, however, was very good but not in my estimation worth $65. I had just the same kind at Texas Roadhouse in the High Desert in California for $45 and it tasted just as good as well. In terms of a price-to-value proposition, I'd give my steak a B-. The side items we ordered were definitely the stars of the show. The potatoes au gratin and the cremini mushroom dishes were mind-blowingly spectacular! Those, for the price were worth every penny. A+, wait, no, priceless!! The MOST underwhelming item for us was the bananas foster for $35. The fire show was wonderful, but the taste was, for lack of a better term, "meh". The Palisades in Seattle served a much better version. Would not recommend it at all. Stick to the Crème Brûlée instead. Side bar items. Free Valet Parking was good and prompt. Postscript: I strongly recommend getting a reservation a few days ahead, heck even a week before your date to guarantee a table. Especially during special occasions, like Father's Day. There was a couple that didn't have a reservation and tried to claim the same table we reserved and was shown by the seating hostess and had the temerity to be upset because we did not give it to them. They reasoned that they waited for an hour. I rebutted that I made a reservation a week ahead. They were so upset that they left the restaurant quicker than the Roadrunner being chased by Wiley E. Just not as top notch as I remembered. Steak was chewy and had texture as if previously frozen. Salmon was 'swimming' in the Thai sauce. Too much. Chopped salad didn't seem fresh. Bread choices - the baguette was hard, too 'crusty'. Service with Michael was spot on. Water refills, timing on food, salad deliveries, were great. Hostess tossed rose petals on the table to 'celebrate' my birthday. Mini complimentary cheesecake with a candle was a nice touch, but we got it 'to go'. Atmosphere interrupted by emergency alarm going off asking us to leave the premises. ?? Must be a normal occurrence, as the manager in a suit came around and said was not in their restaurant, but in the residential part of the building, and no one seemed phased by it. Unfortunately some of the other reviews were on point! This place is very overpriced. I have the 6 oz steak and it wasn't bad, but not worth $40. One way to offset the price is ordering the special which includes a salad/soup, side dish and dessert for $9 more. Versus paying $40 for just the steak and then paying over $10 for a side dish. The wine is also extremely overpriced! There was a $15 bottle that was being sold at $80....um no thanks. Service was normal, waiter was attentive and friendly. If you look at my past reviews my dining experience at this Ruth's Chris was a 5 star review and I have never left a negative Yelp review before but after a $310 bill for two for a sup par experience I feel it necessary to warn other diners: "As a longtime customer of Ruth's Chris, I find myself seriously considering never returning again. My wife and I recently celebrated Father's Day at the restaurant, a place that has been dear to us for over a decade. Unfortunately, the experience left much to be desired. While waiting for our reservation, we decided to visit the bar. To our dismay, the air conditioning was lacking, making the atmosphere uncomfortable. The bartenders were completely inattentive, adding to our frustration. When our entrées arrived, they were incomplete. My wife's steak was missing the shrimp it was supposed to come with, and the Brussels sprouts were raw, even after being sent back. For dessert, we ordered two items, including the apple crumb cake. It was so cold that the ice cream on top did not melt and it tasted of the refrigerator. The dining room itself was another disappointment. The dress code seemed nonexistent, with patrons wearing cut-off shorts and exercise attire, which detracted from the upscale experience we were accustomed to. As we were leaving, we requested some change from the bill to tip the valet and were told that it wasn't possible. Frankly, that was the last straw. This particular Ruth's Chris holds sentimental value for us, as it was the location of our first date. It pained us to see the restaurant's standards decline so drastically. Ruth would be ashamed. Very disappointing experience, this restaurant used to have the best steak but not anymore. I ordered a filet cooked "medium", it came out looking like a dried up piece of charcoal. I never send food back at restaurants but for the first time I did and felt embarrassed about it especially since we were dining with a guest. After 15 minutes I got a new steak cooked "Well Done" but didn't look like charcoal on the outside. It was dry and flavorless. At that point I just took a couple bites and asked for a togo box, couldn't bring myself to send it back again and didn't want to force myself to eat it. Ruth Chris is always everyone's favorite and I love it too but sometimes I think people glorify it too much! But at the same time I've seen people recently find and appreciate more new restaurants, hole in the wall spots, small businesses, family-owned places, etc. so maybe not. Just remember it's expensive and I honestly only go here if it's an occasion I was invited to. Appetizers: The calamari is perfect and they give you a great portion not mixed with other vegetables or things like other restaurants tend to do. The spicy shrimp is also super delicious as most bang-bang/firecracker style shrimp appetizers are anywhere else. My all time favorites: Stuffed chicken breast, lobster Mac, & sweet potato casserole! I'd honestly be surprised if you didn't try and love at least one when you go here. You can never go wrong. I'm not a sweet potato fan but this is soooo delicious and so crispy it tastes like a desert. Also, I'm not much of a steak person and I've had my steak cooked wrong here a few times so I stopped getting it. The creamed spinach & asparagus are good healthy sides too. We thought the lamb chops were a little gamey and the mashed potatoes were so bland and lumpy, it's like they skipped the salt and butter and didn't even continue to mash it all the way. Desert: We got the cheesecake and chocolate cake and both were terrible. The cheesecake tasted homemade and was super gooey inside like they didn't put it in the fridge long enough and tasted bland. It didn't help that the crust was really hard so you couldn't get a good bite without working hard to break the crust while the cheese inside flowed out. The chocolate cake was also like a flourless dark chocolate cake that just tasted more like a piece of raspberry dark chocolate which nobody liked. Very, very good birthday meal here. My wonderful friend treated me to a birthday dinner here, celebrating my 50th! From the hostess to the server (Sarah, you are wonderful!) to the manager, the staff is wonderful! Ambiance is very upscale but also very warm and comfortable. Music is great. The bread is delicious, butter yummy and room temperature (not ice cold and unspreadable!). Salads delicious, I chose the wedge. 16 oz New York strip is fantastic. My friend ordered blue cheese crusted petite sirloin, she loved it. Birthday dessert was so thoughtful, the chocolate sin cake was decadent. A hefty gift certificate brought me and some friends to the north Raleigh location of Ruth's Chris, and unfortunately, I could really taste the difference in quality since my last visit. As a chef and meat cutter, I was expecting a 16oz ribeye that was both thick and tender, but what I got was disappointing. My medium-rare steak was barely ¾" thick, tough, and lacked the juiciness I expect from an expensive steak. The ribeye cap, which is the best part for me, was overcooked to a crisp, inedible char. Most of the beef on our table ended up going home with one of my friends who can eat just about anything, even if it's not great. I often visit my nephew at the Texas Roadhouse in Wake Forest, and honestly, their ribeye is not only thicker but also far more tender than what I had at Ruth's Chris. The Oysters Rockefeller were another letdown. The hollandaise sauce was thick and gooey, and honestly, I couldn't even find an oyster beneath the massive glob of sauce. Calling it "Oysters Rockefeller" is a bit of a misnomer in my opinion. When I think of beignets, I think of Café Du Monde, but the greasy crab beignets here were inedible for me. As for the 11oz filet my wife and friends had, it was oddly shaped like a pyramid, making it nearly impossible to grill on both sides. It felt more like it had been baked than grilled, and it was obviously cut from the small end of the tenderloin, likely saving the center cuts for the shrimp-topped filets. I've also heard that Ruth's Chris was bought out and switched to serving wet-aged beef rather than dry-aged. As an old-school steak lover, I can tell the difference, and it seems like this change has affected the quality of the steaks. It's a shame, because I used to enjoy dining here, but now I'll be sticking to Texas Roadhouse for my steak fix. Ruth's Chris just didn't deliver, and I won't be returning anytime soon. read more

Hadn't been to Ruth Chris since moving to Raleigh from Charlotte... so I invited a few of my staff for a quick holiday lunch. We arrived at 1:15 and were surprised only two other small groups were present. The menu had very few options (which I attribute that to the current Covid crisis) --no point loss for that The food came out lukewarm in my case, and I was served some greasy, refried, fries that looked anything but appealing. And so I informed the manager about the fries and in the most snarky, condescending manner he says "yeah ok" and removes them from the table, and hastily and dramatically walks away as if I did something wrong. Needless to say when the waiter came back he was in a different mood as well and was very short with us to the point of us feeling very uncomfortable. I do believe it's customary when you are spending your money... to get what you're paying for and all I wanted was hot, edible fries. And to think I didn't even complain about the steak being lukewarm and/or prepared as I ordered. I didn't want or ask for anything out of the ordinary, or for them to comp my meal, reduce price etc. And my plea was in a cheerful tone, as I was in a great mood before everything just went downhill. My guests and I were in the holiday spirit, even despite the current state of the pandemic and just wanted some normalcy in our routine. Upon leaving our spirits were broken with how we were treated. And honestly I've experienced not so stellar service in places in the past and I always give another try before writing a restaurant all the way off. But this Ruth Chris location will not get my business. It's manager obviously doesn't how the art of customer service or just the basic principles of how to interact with others. Would leave 0 stars if I could! We went here for my dad's birthday dinner. The food took almost an hour to come out, and when it did it was cold and very mediocre. The manager commented that it had only been rung in 14 minutes ago... as though that changes that we ordered an hour beforehand. He was very rude and dismissive despite knowing we were celebrating a birthday. The final straw is that they charged $14 for a side of steamed broccoli we requested for our baby. With no seasoning. And added 18% tip to the bill. What a sham of an establishment, I've had better burgers at Cleveland draft house. They didn't even bring any dessert for my dad's birthday. My wife made a dinner reservation here for my birthday. We got the free valet service which made it easy for parking. We were greeted at the front desk and seated at our table in 2min. We were waited on by Scott who did a great job attending to us. The timeliness in between salad, entree and dessert was minimal. The overall taste of the food was great. The steaks were cooked perfectly and were really good pieces of meat. They are closing for renovations next month and the wait staff will be relocating to the Cary location. Renovations will be for 2 years and is meant to enlarge the location. I know alot of people complain about the prices. I recommend looking at the menu online before making a reservation in order to get an idea on the prices ahead of time. read more

Food was good. Service was good. Atmosphere was good. Basically for a fine dining experience everything was good. Nothing extra spectacular. Went out for "just because dinner" before welcoming a new addition to our family (pregnant). I was a little disappointed that the food was not on par with the price. I ordered a Cesar salad and crab cakes both were freshly made so that was a plus. For my entree I had the stuffed chicken and it was delicious. My husband had the ribeye steak and of course I had to help him test it out. The steak was cooked medium and it was not smooth, tender or juicy. Really disappointed by the steak. Last thing. We ordered specialty drinks (non alcoholic) in addition to glasses of water. About halfway through my dinner I decided to drink some water and I cut my lip on the water glass. I let the waitress know and she was very sweet and let the manager know. The manager seemed to be very awkward about the situation. I let him know we were not looking for a discount or confrontation. The service was slow, the waitress inattentive and the food was not impressive. My husband ordered a ribeye medium rare. It came to the table rare and cold on the inside. Overall not great. We were excited to experience the new North Hills location. Atmosphere was way too modern. Lighting was very bright. Not what we expected for a dinner setting. Service was fair. Probably not the server's fault. He was given too many tables. It took forever to get drinks, apps, dinner, desserts. We were there for 3 hours not by choice. One of my daughters ordered her dinner selection, only to be told 15 mins AFTER everyone else was served their dinner entree, that they did not have what she ordered. Why did it take so long to tell us she needed to select something different. Most likely will not return to this location. read more

There isn't a shortage of steakhouses around the Raleigh area. I think the key to bringing customers back at this price point is finding something different and special to offer that other establishments don't have. Ruth's Chris special is a hot sizzling plate at 500 degrees (I think). What makes that so important is your food never gets cold while you're dining. If your steaks a little more under cooked than you like, cut it and slide it over plate and it'll cook a little more. We had reservations at 7:45 and were seated around 8. Not a big deal to me, it's the holidays, I was excited I was able to even get a reservation a week in advance! Our service was great, I do not have any complaints. Anything we asked for, cake right out, but to be honest, I don't remember having to ask for anything. Not even another fork when I used my steak knife prior to receiving my steak. read more

Wow! Really dissatisfied with the food. Service was great, but at times felt very rushed. We were never asked to refill our alcoholic drinks, and we specifically pushed the glasses to the edge of the table to get noticed. My salmon was good, crab cakes were good, but the calamari was "meh" . Did not taste fresh at all. The biggest disappointment was the lobster Mac and cheese. Very bland! For $35 they just cooked a milky Mac and cheese and threw lobster pieces on top. It was a not good. I had 2 pineapple martini's and it was a sugary mess with little alcohol. For the money you spend at this caliber of a restaurant , the food should be spot on. Way tooo pricey for mediocre food. read more

I've had the experience of taking my family to Ruth Chris specially in this location in Cary and by far there are the best really good food great customer service attentive to detail and it's one of my favorite places. I really recommend this location over the rest in North Carolina. read more

Bottom Line: Consistently good service and food. Chain restaurants get a bad wrap in general but I always have a great experience at Ruth's Chris and my visit to the Raleigh/North Hills location is no exception. My friend and I sat at the bar and enjoyed wine, cocktails and happy hour nosh on a Friday evening. For food we split a caesar salad and steak sandwich with a side of sweet potato fries. The kitchen split the plates for us which was a nice surprise. All of the staff members I encountered were smiling and friendly. Even those staff members whom I passed on the way to and from the restroom flashed a big smile and offered a friendly greeting. The bar tender occassionally got a bit sidetracked with prepping garnishes but I would still qualify the overall experience as excellent. I visited this restaurant while on a business trip to NC. There is a Ruth's Chris very close to where I live but I never got a chance to visit so this was my first visit. The interior of the restaurant resembled a traditional steakhouse setting. The lights were dimmed with music from the 80s playing. Im not sure if this is the same across the chain or each restaurant has a little leeway in terms of decor but I absolutely loved it. I chose the Ruth's Classic menu with green salad, ribeye steak and cheesecake as the dessert. The ribeye steak was really good and grilled exactly to my like, medium. It was the best ribeye I've had. The service was superb too. My waiter kept coming back to my table to see if I needed anything. If you think you like a more classic type of steakhouse environment then I would highly recommend Ruth's Chris. read more

Been there twice in 2 mos. Once on Thanksgiving and Jan 3, both times with a party of 5. New restaurant but the decor is already a bit dated in the colors and carpet chosen, except for the lighting which is beautiful. Food was decent. Good French onion soup. Pricey steaks where the butter overpowers the $70 ribeyes. I like butter, but it's all you can taste and too rich. The worst past was the wait for food. First time we thought it was bc it was Thanksgiving so we gave them grace. Second time where we were able to walk in with no reservation on Fri night, took over 45 min to get our food after ordering. Instead they fill you up with the tasteless bread, albeit served hot. Our dinner took 2 hrs, and we did not order dessert. We walked in at 6:30 and walked out at 8:30. Not sure if it's the service, bar or kitchen that is slow, but there's a reason every restaurant in the area is booked up on a Fri night though Ruth's was wide open. Also they add automatic 18% tip, and this was on a party of 5, not 6. All around a poor experience for over $400 tab. We won't be back and will go back to tried and true Capital Grille for our steaks. read more
