Completely blown away by the food here! We started off with the calamari which was perfectly cooked. The coating was light and crispy and perfectly seasoned. And it was not rubbery at all like at some other restaurants. The prime rib was for sure the highlight of my meal. It was amazing by itself but the au jus took it to another level. The prime rib was super tender. And the smashed potatoes side was also really well seasoned and delicious. It was my mom's birthday so we also got a complimentary carrot cake. I didn't think I liked carrot cake until I tried this. It came out hot with a melting gooey cream cheese frosting. I'm not sure what expect was in it but I couldn't get enough. It was also a pretty sizable portion which was good for sharing. We came for an early dinner so it wasn't too busy. The decor was nice and very modern. The service was also really great! I took my wife to J Alexander's to celebrate Mother's Day and she had an appetizer that was terrible - Hong Kong Shrimp - the sauce on the shrimp was so over spiced it was not enjoyable. Too much pepper left your mouth burning and I can handle spicy.....The waitress only checked back when food was dropped off so no real opportunity to raise the issue. She really didn't acknowledge when we raised when she came to ask about the desserts, nor any action with the check either so don't think we'll be going back anytime soon. read more

Honestly J. Alexander's is my favorite restaurant. I always get something similar but that's because it's undefeated. This time around I got a parmesan crusted steak (a dinner special) with Mac and cheese and a pear martini. Dinner...phenomenal. I'm still dreaming about it. The pear martini was a little strong for me s asked for a little bit of simple syrup to sweeten it up a bit. Perfection now! So, so experience maybe because it was so busy. Salmon dip was just ok. The pecan crusted trout was excellent, but only having one veggie option is a miss. The shrimp soso, the chicken so so. We went to the restaurant yesterday for my birthday celebration. This IS the best restaurant I have been to in 20 years. Excellence at its best. From the time we walked in. Greeting, communication, wait staff, service, food, everything was great. The food portions are unbelievable. All of the wait staff, just great service. I had the queso and chips, thick, lump meat crab cakes, fresh Coleslaw & potato stick like fries, cooked to perfection. I also appreciated how the servers, no matter where they were in the restaurant, worked together, and noticed if you maybe had an unmet need -- from the person who noticed our server was tied up and took (and brought) our drink orders, to the server who saw me with a couple of takeout boxes standing by the bathrooms waiting for my wife and my mom, and asked if I needed a bag. Plus our assigned server was herself wonderful, achieving that perfect balance of checking in frequently without hovering. It also happened to be my birthday. Housemade carrot cake on the house, paired perfectly with a coffee service (decaf) that thought of everything: large French press for each person, with individual creamer, plus heated mugs! Oh yeah, and the food! Steaks were excellent, and we all enjoyed the eponymous salad. The 30A sushi roll is as yummy as it sounds, too. We wanted a nice sit down place that was casual enough for not needing reservations but fancy enough to celebrate my kid's recital. I had heard good things and we happened to be in the neighborhood. First things first, it was a Saturday, but an off time, around 4:30 pm so we got a four top easily. The dining room was dark but crowded enough, and the sound level was just right to feel like our conversation was private without us having to yell at each other. Secondly, they were phenomenal about food allergies, which most nicer restaurants are, but you never know! My kids loved that there were sushi and steak options. Everything was hot, delicious, and served with care. We took the banana pudding cheesecake to-go. Visited on 5/5/25 for my god-sister's birthday celebration. I've been here several times growing up, so it was nice to be back for a special occasion. Our server, Anthony, was attentive and did a great job handling our large party of about 15-20 people. My god-sister specifically requested him since she had a great experience with him before. Although I was a little bummed that I wasn't able to get her a birthday drink--I reminded him twice--I completely understand since he was juggling a big group. Came here for a late lunch after dropping off my car for some maintenance that would take several hours. Should've known something was wrong the minute I walked into the restaurant and the hostess said "hello"... and just stared at me. I asked if I could get a table for one for lunch. She turned to grab a menu and said "follow me". Maybe she was having a bad day. I sat down and read the menu and waited...and waited some more. After 10 minutes, the hostess comes to my table and asks "has the server been by yet?" I said no and she apologizes, and asks if I want to order. I said yes, but can I get a drink? She said of course and when I asked what was on tap, she said she didn't know. She brought me a water, said my club sandwich was ordered, and the waiter would be right over. So 20 minutes in, I have a water, no beverage, but a lunch order pending. The server finally showed up and mumbled something about being busy, then took my beer order, which he delivered a few minutes later. The Club sandwich finally arrives, but the grainy bread is smothered in butter, not toasted as described in the menu. The waiter checks on me 10 minutes later, apologizes for the sandwich, and says he'll get another one made. The second one takes another 10 minutes and is actually quite good! But the failure is they put the same fries, now cold, bake on my plate!! He sees they're not eaten and asks what's wrong. I tell him that I can't wait, and he apologizes again. I get the check, which he says has omitted the beer for my trouble. No manager ever came over to discuss the situation. I felt bad for this young man, who had been serving a large table when I arrived. I think he was either not told or told late to come to my table. What a sad way to allow an employee to struggle without help. I like to give restaurants the benefit of the doubt. But this place had opportunities with both the hostess and the manager to either help prevent or fix the issues. Neither happened. So I recommend you spend your dining dollars somewhere else. read more

Two friends and I had dinner Mar. 1 in Raleigh. We ordered the roasted chicken all of us. We were told the chicken had to be cooked which would take an hour. It took more an hour for us to get our food. One person's mashed potatoes were cold. The waitress was not good. She never came to fill our water glass until we got ready to leave. UPDATE: The food is still delish and our server was very friendly. We got lucky and missed both the lunch and dinner rush. Timing is everything. We did have to return our soup. It wasn't hot. DO NOT go here if you have a large party. Unfortunately, it was on our third visit that my opinion suddenly morphed from very positive to negative. The food is excellent, as was our server, who worked her butt off serving a party of 15. The ambiance; also great! So what went wrong? Back to my first point: they really seem to dislike large parties, especially those with over 12 people. We reserved our table(s) ahead of time, but were told that any party over 12 requires a credit card. This was the least of our worries but is worth considering for anyone looking to reserve for a large group. When we got there we were surprised to find we had to sit at three separate tables. This was unfortunate given we had some people from out of town and were celebrating two birthdays. To be clear, the tables were in the same general area, but they would not allow us to move them together since "they don't do that". Finally, after eating separately at three different tables, we were told we could not split the check using more than three credit cards. This is where I draw the line. For what reason can they not split the checks? Having eaten there previously, it was no issue to split it two ways for one table. What on earth made this visit any different? To reiterate again, it was three separate tables, and they shouldn't have been processed together to begin with. I've worked in hospitality and it is not complicated. This dissatisfaction is compounded by the fact that we were told the tables could be combined and the checks could be split during the initial reservation. We felt quite unwelcome throughout the whole experience. You'd think they would want to accommodate these very simple things for a party spending at least a several hundred dollars on a Tuesday night. ‍ read more

Right around the corner from Crabtree mall, parking lot has plenty of spaces and the restaurant is easily accessible. We had reservations with friends right before Valentine's day and we were seated as soon as our party arrived. The place is dimly lit with a very intimate vibe. Our waiter was very professional and attentive. We ordered the salmon dip appetizer and it was fantastic. It came cold which I was not expecting but paired perfect on the crostinis. I ordered the sea bass off of the specials menu but was not a fan due to it being very bland. I was going to just sit with it but the waiter made sure to know I could definitely send it back for something else, so I took him up on the offer and ordered crab cakes. They were delicious and didn't disappoint. Even the shoestring fries were fun to eat. The Caesar salad is something I would come back to eat in its own! For dessert, we ordered key lime pie and white chocolate cheesecake - both equally decadent with no complaints. My only negative would be the food was very salty for me, not inedible but definitely made my ankles swell up. However, that will not stop me from coming back! read more

I'm a Florida native and this place takes me back and holds a special place in my heart. The reasons I keep coming back are the fries and the chocolate cake. The fries are probably the best I've ever had in my life. They go great with ketchup but do yourself a favor and also ask for ranch. It's top tier ranch. As for the steak, it's not bad but I'm biased to a classic filet mignon. Always make sure to save room for dessert though, because their chocolate cake is the bomb. It's so classic and might just beat out chilis molten lava cake. A must try! The service is always good and the vibes are nice and classy but not too stuffy. Cannot believe we have never tried this place after driving by it for so long. Decided to go out on an impromptu midweek date with my husband of 26 years since we both finished work a little later than usual. Upon arriving the hostess was pleasant and greeted us with a smile. The ambiance of the place was great. It was very chic, had dimmed lighting (but not too dark to see), one tv was on in the bar area but was not loud at all. Overall, it was a pleasant vibe, and we could actually hear each other. The food was excellent. I chose the crab cakes (mind you, I'm a "snob" when it comes to seafood). They passed the test with flying colors! Our cocktails were refreshing and flavorful, and the presentation was on point! The dessert was also delicious.
