Came here for Saturday brunch and I was not disappointed. I called ahead to gauge the wait time and luckily there was no wait for a table for 2. There was a short wait for larger groups. First of all, after browsing through the pictures of the interior, I would describe the ambiance as to like Luke's cafe from Gilmore Girls, specifically referring to the unique coffee mug and salt/pepper shakers at each table, and not to mention the individualized decor for tables and chairs. It's a very interesting place for dining and my husband couldn't agree more as soon as he stepped in. Menu was extensive and our waitress was friendly and helpful. She pointed out the specials on the wall and I was immediately captivated. I end up getting the special scramble (pesto, cherry tomato, spinach with cheese), it came with side toast which I picked cinnamon raisin (it was excellent, came out toasted with little melted butter) and a side of seasonal fruit. Everything was great, I didn't even need to sprinkle salt or pepper. My husband got the Salmon Avocado Benedict and it looked quite yummy too. His only complaint was that the sourdough toast was a bit too hard, he would've liked something softer like an English Muffin. Otherwise, excellent meal with great service. I have passed this place numerous times but never seem to catch it when it's open. That changed today. The atmosphere is homey with mismatched chairs, salt and pepper shakers and plates. I took it as a good omen that my pepper shaker was a bulldog because people call me one. I deliberated over the various Benedicts but settled for the quiche of the day with a side of fruit. The quiche was.good with asparagus and tomato in it though the board stated broccoli and roasted red pepper. No worries - it was still good. The fruit was fresh - not the usual frozen melon mushy grape deal. I did not order any of the baked goods though I will correct that oversight next time when I hope to bring my mom here. Ruth's cafe is one of my go to brunch places. It has eclectic decor with each mug and chair being different. There are tons of sayings on the wall that reference the joy of bacon and most of the art is for purchase. The staff here is lovely and friendly. My favorite is the potato omelet with a substitution of one of the infamous cheesecake pancakes instead of toast. The pancakes have homemade strawberry butter and cheesecake melted inside. It is truly divine. This place can get really busy especially on the weekends so you must be prepared to wait, but it is worth it! read more

Stopped in to check this place out. It was busy so I thought this would be a good spot for breakfast before heading on to shop. To start we was seated as soon as we walked in the door. It took a few minutes to take our order but that was fine. The restaurant has a cool vibe and a lot of decorations on the walls that can be purchased. Food didn't take long to come out. To start I ordered biscuits and gravy and we also had an order of French Toast. There was something different about the biscuits and gravy. Tasted like maybe onion in the gravy plus the sausage tasted funny. Not sure if I got the wrong gravy or not. They do offer different kinds of sausage for the gravy. For breakfast, I recommend the crab cake eggs benny! For lunch, I suggest doing the lunch combo! You can pick two out of their sammies, soups, and salads! I've had the Brie LT and the grilled cheese with Granny Smith apples, goat cheese, and Brie! Their tomato basil soup is way too good! Their house salad comes with a delicious champagne vinaigrette! We tried the salmon egg benedict, which came on stale bread and salmon tasted rubbery, like overcooked frozen salmon. The sauce was made with margarine, not butter. The poached egg was also overcooked. The Nutella & banana lefse on the other hand was delicious, would definitely recommend trying that again. read more

Hubby and I ventured out of our Fishers-based bubble for Sunday brunch last weekend, and holy cats, are we glad we did! This little gem is located at a strip mall, directly across from the Keystone Fashion Mall. Walking up, we could see it was very crowded, lots of full tables and several people waiting to be seated. We were told it would be a 15 minute wait, not bad for Sunday around 10am. This gave us time to check out the decor which is very eclectic, looks more like a spot you'd find in Broad Ripple. The super cheery hostess ended up seating us in under 5 minutes, sweet! Now for the food...yummmmm. The menu is a really nice reprieve from your traditional breakfast/brunch places. I love seeing "different" items. The cheesecake pancakes jumped out right away and the fact that you can get Reese's in a Belgian waffle is fabulous, but I ended up going with my favorite, banana walnut pancakes. I was worried the short stack wouldn't be enough, but I barely ate half. The cakes are about a 1/2 inch thick, cooked with bananas, topped with more bananas and candied walnuts. So, so good. Hubby customized their egg scramble with ham, bacon and potatoes with a side of more potatoes (he loved potatoes) and an English muffin. The portions were so huge, he couldn't finish it. This coming from a man that invented the clean plate club! Pricing is about the average, our bill was around $25, considering we both could have had two meals. Service was great, we only saw our waitress maybe twice, but she was always walking around, so we could have easily flagged her down. I am very biased when it comes to a breakfast place, because I run one myself. And of course i think our food is good. But wow, I tried the cheesecake pancake with the strawberry butter (excellent touch) was amazing!! Love the whimsical decor, and you can buy it too. Great idea! I was looking at other customers food, and they all look so good! Great presentation, huge portions. Waitress's are very friendly. Only negative would be the bottled soda. If I lived local, this gal would be a regular It was pretty busy with a line out the door and packed waiting area, but their complimentary cup of coffee at the hosts stand made the short wait just that much more bearable. The hostess was so sweet and welcoming even though they were crazy busy. Our wait was not long before they called our name to be seated. We started our breakfast with one of their delicious cinnamon rolls. SO delicious, it almost tasted like a soft glazed cinnamon roll/honeybun We also tried their biscuits and gravy and created our own scramble. SO YUMMY! The breakfast potatoes were on point as well! I love Ruth's Cafe! I frequent this breakfast and lunch spot a lot. It never disappoints! The actual restaurant is really neat inside. It has a cozy and inviting atmosphere. There is a lot of art on the walls that you can purchase if desired! Ruth's Cafe offers a wide variety of food options. I usually opt for breakfast. A few of my favorites are the potato omelet, breakfast sandwich, and pancakes. The pancakes are massive. I can usually eat about half of one. They're so fluffy and delicious! In my opinion, you could even eat them without syrup because they taste so good. The omelets are filled with fresh ingredients, as well. I have tried some of the lunch options such as the very berry salad and spinach melt. Both are great! Overall, Ruth's is a great brunch spot. My only issue with Ruth's (and this sounds odd), but I also leave smelling like the grill or kitchen. It just has a distinct smell and sticks to my clothing! Other guests that I have gone here with have said the same. Maybe it is because the kitchen is wide open. But, it can get a little bothersome. My husband felt that the meal servings were just slightly on the light side for the price. He ended up ordering a halfsie of biscuits and gravy to go along with his Old School eggs meal. I ordered a build my own omelette, cup of fruit, and swapped the toast for one large pancake, I only ate half of everything, because I was so stuffed. Flavor was great with everything, and service was fast and friendly. Though it can get quite crowded, so expect a short wait on weekends, and you may need to track down your server if you need anything. They have a lot of people to keep happy, so it's to be expected. Tried this place out several times and have finally decided it's time to share the love with the Yelp world! The atmosphere of this place makes you feel like you're stepping into a really cool aunt's kitchen. The decor is unique and some of it is handmade by Ruth herself! Now for the food! I've tried several different lunch dishes here and have never been let down. My love affair with the Tomato Basil soup is quite intense and a visit to Ruth's wouldn't be the same without a cup of this delicious concoction. If you're a fan of blue cheese, the Missile Sandwich is a must try! I will say I'm a classic girl when it comes to cafe food, so for me the slam dunk meal is the ham and cheese sandwich with the tomato basil soup. Instantly transforms me to sick days from school when my mom used to make me the same meal. The only thing keeping me from the 5 stars is that although the wait staff is on point as far as being efficient, they aren't super friendly/engaging. I don't know what took me so long to try Ruth's. I've been Ruth-less for so long and have been saved by a quirky 12 yo and his love for the art and whimsy not to mention the giant pancakes!! I liked it and the staff so much that I picked up an application for my 17yo who needs a job that won't interfere with studies of music gigs and lessons. Ruth's is my favorite breakfast joint on the Northside. The feel is a nice blend of modern and rustic almost like going to eat breakfast at grandmas house. You generally want to get there early, as the weekend rush during 8-10 AM can be a little crazy, but it's well worth the wait. How it's different then other restaurants: -The Style: Unlike most restaurants, generally everyone in the cafe will have different coffee mugs, salt and pepper shakers, seating arrangements and silverware -The Portions: If you order an omelet it is a giant omelet. If you order biscuits and gravy, they heap it on there. You do not leave full. -The Service: The staff though sometimes crazy busy manages to refill coffee, take orders, and bring out your food in a relatively quick manner. I visited here on a Saturday morning around 9:30 a.m. and surprisingly only had a wait a couple of minutes. It's a fairly small location with a very eclectic decorating style. The decorations make it feel cozy. I had a great homemade corned beef scramble (it was a special on St. Patrick's Day) and I upgraded my toast to a cheesecake pancake for a small price. The scramble was SO good and the pancake was to die for. It was a dinner plate size pancake and it was done so well. I took 3/4 of it home and ate it later in the day. We found this new spot and went in for Sunday brunch. Since we were late we had little to no wait time which was great! The staff were great and friendly. They have both indoor and outdoor seating but recommend sitting inside because they have done some great work with the interiors! We had the waffle and the middle sandwich! That being said, the parking is a bit of a hassle and when there is a line out the door, there is literally a line out the door. Seating is also tight, but turnover seems to be pretty good. In terms of food, the pancakes rank as some of the best that we've had in Indy. They are fluffy and huge. Some inconsistency with texture and crustiness, but they had a decent feel to them overall. I have to say I am disappointed with Ruth's Cafe. It's not because of the food or the service. I can't say I've ever had a bad experience here. That's just it though. I haven't had an experience here at all. Every time I've attempted to have brunch here they've closed early. I can understand an isolated event. I can understand closing for a special occasion or for a holiday. But this hasn't been the case when I wanted to dine here. Each time it seemed arbitrary. I'll admit. I'm a last minute person and extremely spontaneous. I like a late brunch. I love to logon to Yelp and look for places whose menus I've yet to explore. Ruth's had been on my list for awhile. The first time I encountered the early closing I thought, how sad for me, I'll call ahead next time. This time when I called ahead I was told, "yeah, we close at three, so...". "So are you still serving?" "No. We just turned the lights off." It was 2:30 when I called and could hear a busy restaurant in the background. So my advice, Ruth's Cafe, is change your advertised hours to closing at 2 p.m. That way, if you stay open longer, it's a boon for the customer. Otherwise, bad form. read more
