Not sure if I wanna give this place a try. I decided to treat myself to breakfast and Ruth's Cafe was on my bookmark list. Before I came here I read the reviews and was actually excited to try their food. Upon arriving, I received a mediocre greeting from the host; I thought that maybe once he knew it was my first time visiting, he'd perk up a bit but nothing. I followed him to the second part of the seating area, after seeing there were no seats available in the front to find a nice corner to sit by myself. Ok cool. My waitress didn't greet me, but just asked what I would like to drink (which is a huge pet peeve of mine). When she brought my starter water (I wasn't sure what I wanted just yet); she seemingly plopped it on my table. Ooook. I noticed a couple seated behind me was getting a much more pleasant greeting from the same waitress and felt a certain kind of way. And though I was there before them, the waitress proceeded to take their order before mine....like, what?! Wasn't feeling welcomed. Not feeling a warm atmosphere; I just decided to leave. Okay, I'm all about breakfast, and this place is the BOMB. When I say they have everything ...I mean there's menu with endless toppings for your pancakes. Their eggs Benedict? To die for. Biscuits and gravy for daaaaayyyyzzz. The service has always been on point even when they are busy, which is pretty much all the time. If there was any "con"...it would be having to wait because they are busy and the parking lot gets full. But hey, Indy likes their brunch! I take my family here every time they come to visit. Love this little spot in Keystone. Wish I would have known about it sooner. It has more of a B-Rip vibe to it. Decided to have brunch there today. Started with the cheese and fruit platter. Nothing amazing about it. I would say they may have purchased the cheeses from the local grocery. It consisted of crumbled blue cheese, crumbled goat cheese, shredded cheddar, slices of Swiss and brie. Catch my drift? It was also served with fresh fruit and slices of toast. if you are going to do a cheese plate do it right and serve wedges. It's easier to eat. But on a good note since they served all this over a bed of spring mix I took the rest home and plan on having it as a salad later. I ordered the eggs benedict over crab cakes. First time for me yet good. I did try the tomato basil soup which is made in house. That was also tasty. I also tried the gourmet grilled cheese. OUTSTANDING! We had a lovely Saturday brunch here. We came right before 11 and were seated almost immediately. When we left, there was a wait. Service we quick, welcoming and friendly. Coffee was good. They had homemade scones, cookies and cinnamon rolls to start. Tons of add ins are available for their pancakes and lefse (a Norwegian style crepe). I had the banana Nutella lefse - huge and quite yummy! Hubby had 1/2 order biscuits & gravy with lots of sausage in the gravy. He also got a Reese PB cup pancake but it was too huge and rich to finish! Also tons of different Benedicts and specials. A great local brunch option! read more

Oh my, such a cute gem! I was googling a breakfast place near me and Ruth's Cafe popped up. Read some reviews and decided to try. I am very biased when it comes to a breakfast place, because I run one myself. And of course i think our food is good. But wow, I tried the cheesecake pancake with the strawberry butter (excellent touch) was amazing!! Love the whimsical decor, and you can buy it too. Great idea! I was looking at other customers food, and they all look so good! Great presentation, huge portions. Waitress's are very friendly. Only negative would be the bottled soda. I've been to Ruth's just twice in six years, but the most recent visit (3 weeks ago) reminded me why I need to stop here every time I visit home. Though the location is trapped in the traffic warzone of Keystone@the Crossing / west of Castleton, the menu and service are both stellar and worth your time and the hassle of getting around this area in a motor vehicle. Whether it is breakfast or lunch, you are bound to find something to sate your hunger. The homemade chicken salad sandwich is a thing of beauty. I like my "salad sandwiches" to be light on the mayo; Ruth's fits the bill. Fresh celery provides a nice bite and the cashews bring it all together on fresh baked bread. Served with a cup of their tomato basil soup; this is a nearly perfect lunch. The server -- Chris -- was fantastic. He was hilarious, a great sense of humor, and provided the correct amount of sarcasm as he needled my older brother and dad. His patience while we waited for a very late-arriving relative was a nice touch, especially given the late busy lunch hour on a Saturday. The service was timely, friendly, and not overbearing. The sign of a good meal is a quiet table with everyone enjoying their respective dishes. I'd say Ruth's accomplished that and more. If you can deal with the traffic on the NE side of town, avoid the chains and hightail it to Ruth's. You will not be disappointed. My only regret is not trying the Lefse! read more

I was first introduced to Ruth's which is a breakfast/lunch restaurant by my old boss and from the first day we went I was in love! We would go back on a weekly biases and here's why: 1. Look at the pictures, how cute is it?! They have tons of decorations that light this place up! 2.The food--I've had about 4 or 5 items off the menu and hands out the best thing to be is the Chicken Salad Salad. It is served with a champagne vinaigrette. Wow oh wow this is so good! It's that meal that even if you are SO full and want to pop you still eat one more bite! If you are a fan of chicken salad--do us both a favor and check this place out! 3. The staff is so nice and the menu is well priced for the amount of food you get. Each item is around $9-$13. When the place is busy, you know the grub is good. I did have to wait about 10 minutes for a table, but that was much shorter than many of the other people waiting for a table because I was eating alone. Settled on the combo: 1/2 Caprese sandwich and a cup of the Very Berry salad. Both were very lovely. If I had to complain, I'd say they were a tad understaffed. My server had a ton of tables, so she wasn't nearly as attentive to all of us as she could have been with less tables. My wife and I visited them yesterday on a very rare breakfast date without the kids and had an outstanding meal. I had the lefse, a delicious crepe-like dish that was like nothing I've ever tasted before. It has a nice combo of sweet and savory that one doesn't get with a typical breakfast. I also ordered a potato pancake with a delicious blend of zucchini and squash with a nice dollop of sauce. My wife ordered the blueberry pancakes (which she allowed me to try) which were some of the best I've tasted. I LOVE breakfast fare. It's comfort food and while it would appear fairly simple (throw some batter on the skillet) a place like Ruth's shows what can be done with creativity and an expert's touch. The service was friendly (we were offered coffee while we were waiting in line) and everyone seemed to be in a good mood. I would recommend Ruth's - delicious food, wonderful service and such a fun place to enjoy a meal! read more

I love Ruth's Cafe! I frequent this breakfast and lunch spot a lot. It never disappoints! The actual restaurant is really neat inside. It has a cozy and inviting atmosphere. There is a lot of art on the walls that you can purchase if desired! Ruth's Cafe offers a wide variety of food options. I usually opt for breakfast. A few of my favorites are the potato omelet, breakfast sandwich, and pancakes. The pancakes are massive. I can usually eat about half of one. They're so fluffy and delicious! In my opinion, you could even eat them without syrup because they taste so good. The omelets are filled with fresh ingredients, as well. I have tried some of the lunch options such as the very berry salad and spinach melt. Both are great! Overall, Ruth's is a great brunch spot. My only issue with Ruth's (and this sounds odd), but I also leave smelling like the grill or kitchen. It just has a distinct smell and sticks to my clothing! Other guests that I have gone here with have said the same. Maybe it is because the kitchen is wide open. But, it can get a little bothersome. I don't know what took me so long to try Ruth's. I've been Ruth-less for so long and have been saved by a quirky 12 yo and his love for the art and whimsy not to mention the giant pancakes!! I liked it and the staff so much that I picked up an application for my 17yo who needs a job that won't interfere with studies of music gigs and lessons. Very disappointed as we had high expectations. The service was very slow and we went a long time without seeing our waitress. When we got our food it was cold and was missing some of the things. The taste of the pancakes were good was just every tough and cold. Sausage was good and the only thing that came out hot. You generally want to get there early, as the weekend rush during 8-10 AM can be a little crazy, but it's well worth the wait. How it's different then other restaurants: -The Style: Unlike most restaurants, generally everyone in the cafe will have different coffee mugs, salt and pepper shakers, seating arrangements and silverware -The Portions: If you order an omelet it is a giant omelet. If you order biscuits and gravy, they heap it on there. You do not leave full. -The Service: The staff though sometimes crazy busy manages to refill coffee, take orders, and bring out your food in a relatively quick manner. My husband felt that the meal servings were just slightly on the light side for the price. He ended up ordering a halfsie of biscuits and gravy to go along with his Old School eggs meal. I ordered a build my own omelette, cup of fruit, and swapped the toast for one large pancake, I only ate half of everything, because I was so stuffed. Flavor was great with everything, and service was fast and friendly. Though it can get quite crowded, so expect a short wait on weekends, and you may need to track down your server if you need anything. They have a lot of people to keep happy, so it's to be expected. I visited here on a Saturday morning around 9:30 a.m. and surprisingly only had a wait a couple of minutes. It's a fairly small location with a very eclectic decorating style. The decorations make it feel cozy. I had a great homemade corned beef scramble (it was a special on St. Patrick's Day) and I upgraded my toast to a cheesecake pancake for a small price. The scramble was SO good and the pancake was to die for. It was a dinner plate size pancake and it was done so well. I took 3/4 of it home and ate it later in the day. We found this new spot and went in for Sunday brunch. Since we were late we had little to no wait time which was great! The staff were great and friendly. They have both indoor and outdoor seating but recommend sitting inside because they have done some great work with the interiors! We had the waffle and the middle sandwich! Hubby and I ventured out of our Fishers-based bubble for Sunday brunch last weekend, and holy cats, are we glad we did! This little gem is located at a strip mall, directly across from the Keystone Fashion Mall. Walking up, we could see it was very crowded, lots of full tables and several people waiting to be seated. We were told it would be a 15 minute wait, not bad for Sunday around 10am. This gave us time to check out the decor which is very eclectic, looks more like a spot you'd find in Broad Ripple. The super cheery hostess ended up seating us in under 5 minutes, sweet! Now for the food...yummmmm. The menu is a really nice reprieve from your traditional breakfast/brunch places. I love seeing "different" items. The cheesecake pancakes jumped out right away and the fact that you can get Reese's in a Belgian waffle is fabulous, but I ended up going with my favorite, banana walnut pancakes. I was worried the short stack wouldn't be enough, but I barely ate half. The cakes are about a 1/2 inch thick, cooked with bananas, topped with more bananas and candied walnuts. So, so good. Hubby customized their egg scramble with ham, bacon and potatoes with a side of more potatoes (he loved potatoes) and an English muffin. The portions were so huge, he couldn't finish it. This coming from a man that invented the clean plate club! Pricing is about the average, our bill was around $25, considering we both could have had two meals. Service was great, we only saw our waitress maybe twice, but she was always walking around, so we could have easily flagged her down. I have to say I am disappointed with Ruth's Cafe. It's not because of the food or the service. I can't say I've ever had a bad experience here. That's just it though. I haven't had an experience here at all. Every time I've attempted to have brunch here they've closed early. I can understand an isolated event. I can understand closing for a special occasion or for a holiday. But this hasn't been the case when I wanted to dine here. Each time it seemed arbitrary. I'll admit. I'm a last minute person and extremely spontaneous. I like a late brunch. I love to logon to Yelp and look for places whose menus I've yet to explore. Ruth's had been on my list for awhile. The first time I encountered the early closing I thought, how sad for me, I'll call ahead next time. This time when I called ahead I was told, "yeah, we close at three, so...". "So are you still serving?" "No. We just turned the lights off." It was 2:30 when I called and could hear a busy restaurant in the background. So my advice, Ruth's Cafe, is change your advertised hours to closing at 2 p.m. That way, if you stay open longer, it's a boon for the customer. Otherwise, bad form. read more

I was disappointed on this trip to Ruth's café. I decided to stop after leaving a nearby appointment. I ordered the half chicken salad sandwich on sourdough and half salad with chicken salad on it. My sandwich came on toasted white bread which was burnt on the edges, cold, and hard like it had been sitting out for a while. I threw the bread away. My first bite of the sandwich tasted like tuna. (Some tuna must have gotten in it.) After that - the chicken salad had little to no flavor, so I needed to season it. The same with the chicken salad on the salad. read more
