We were in Leeds yesterday and Rusty's was highly recommended, but sadly, I must agree with Kevin W. We ordered the Sampler for Two. The best part was the chicken, but who goes to a barbecue joint for the chicken? The smoked sausage had a good flavor, but very mushy consistency. Really cool place with mediocre food. Had brisket, maybe the wrong choice, but it was fairly simple, little smoke flavor, and not the most tender. Black eyed peas were real good, the beans were so-so. Honestly not worth the trip from the highway. Staff is amazing and very friendly. read more

This was my second time eating there. Basically, ...staff is nice , ...not much meat on bbq sandwich(did not cover all of the bun) for kids bbq and adult large bbq sandwich for what it costs, ...sauce and white sauce was really, really good, ...drink machine needs updating/maintenance. I'm really 50/50. I would say, you could try it and judge yourself. I don't know if this is a regular issue or not. They also seemed to be busy. read more

GREAT bbq, friendly service and fair prices. Every time we are near Barber Motorsports we make sure to fit in at least a few trips to Rusty's -- try their Brunswick Stew (basically a whole bunch of rib meat and a lil' broth and a few veggies -- this is HEARTY and delicious stew. In addition we love the rib sandwich and Rusty's spicy bbq sauce - all the sauces are homemade secret recipes and good, though the spicy sauce is special. Finally, no meal at Rusty's is complete without a piece of homemade pie -- coconut pie is good, the Peanut Butter pie is so creamy light and decadent it will blow you away, literally the best piece of pie ever -- just heavenly. Don't eat the rib sandwich unless you like dried out ribs. I've tried it 3 or 4 times and it's always the smallest, thinnest of the slab of ribs and for some reason they are always dried out. Atlanta native found outstanding real BBQ in Leeds AL. Placed order with individual who turned out to be the owner Rusty. Did not know this until food was delivered. I order the pork salad-excellent portions . He suggested that on my next visit that I order ribs and he gave me a sample. The ribs are incredible. All BBQ is cooked in traditional manner. Sauces, all 4 types can be added at the table. This place is a MUST for anybody who loves real BBQ. A true find. Don't miss this one. I will be back! read more

Grabbed some lunch here Saturday before a trip to the outlets. Two of us ordered the pork plate plus ribs (2) with fried okra and onion rings plus the cheeseburger with fries and devilled eggs (2) plus two drinks for a total of around $25. Kind of steep but whatever. The burger was the standout of the meats, hand formed and griddled which takes a little while. It had a nice bit of crunch to the meat but it was otherwise nice and juicy. Kind of like Sammy's burgers. The fries were ok and the devilled eggs were pretty good. The pork was a bit dry and had little bark; it may have been a leftover which is generally not a problem with 'cue. I was not provided any bread, although the menu notes the plates include bread another diner received some. The fried okra was good, although I could not tell if it was freshly breaded or just frozen but I like both. The best item was probably the onion rings which definitely tasted fresh, hot, somewhat greasy and crunchy, all in a good way (no, I was not healthy this day). The ribs ... well they had good flavor I guess but the meat literally fell off of the bone when I picked up a rib. I prefer my ribs to be a little more toothsome and require some pull to fall off the bone but some people surprisingly prefer overcooked meat. Counter service and she was nice enough. They did let us change the channel to olympic women's soccer which was nice. I'll return, but I won't be rushing back. Incidentally, there are 3 barbecue places within about a half mile on that stretch of Parkway Drive. I have not tried the other two (yet). read more

They have good quality buns, not the cheap ones other BBQ restaurant use. I don't really care for banana pudding, but there's taste different. Wish they offered iceberg lettuce. Romaine is not intended for burgers or cut up in a side salad. Last night was our worst experience. Bun and burger were black. Tried to get my husband to show them but he wouldn't. Usually barbeque is piled high, not last night. We'll go back though because they are still head and shoulders above others around here. Pulled pork sandwich was delicious, as were the spicy beans. My husband's rib tips weren't dry or burnt, they were just right.

The wife and I had BBQ pork sandwiches french fries and large sweet teas the sweet tea was good the fries were store bought the pork was good but the sauce was like water we were definitely disappointed after all the great reviews we have read about this place. I almost forgot there were so many flies at the cash register we almost walked out but I decided I was determined to try the pork sandwich. read more

I get take out here pretty regularly. I don't eat in as it has a little too smokey smell inside that is completely normal for a BBQ place. However I don't want to smell like smoke myself after I eat. The food is really good especially the ribs. They usually have deviled eggs that are good as well with the exception of the one time there was no relish in them. Tried Rusty's about 6 months ago and loved it! Great food and friendly people. Took my parents there last weekend while they were visiting from out of town. Cashier had such an attitude when I asked questions about the sides. So much that everyone with me was shocked at her rudeness. I laughed about her inappropriate customer service because I thought the food was going to be good...until the food was delivered to the table. Everything was so ordinary and unimpressive. Not at all like I remembered. There was a variety of food on our table and it was just mediocre cafeteria-style food. So disappointing. read more

My husband and I ate here when Rusty's first opened, then moved away to Oregon for nine years. Today we came back to have some good BBQ, interestingly it has changed and is not at all what we remembered. We both got the pork plate and it was small portions, the sides were very disappointing, honestly the best thing was the tea. I really hate to write this because this was our favorite place to eat, but honestly it's no better than what the people out west call barbecue. Sorry Rusty, truth hurts. read more
