They sell a bunch of Brazilian snacks but overall the inside of the store looked worn out. We came in on a Sunday morning and no one was at the front. I rang the bell and a young girl came to take our order. She was sweet but looked very stressed. She ran to the back and was on the phone with her boss frantically asking for help. She then came running out and told us it'll be a wait because she needs to get a big order out. I replied no problem and went to grab a seat. After awhile I rang the bell again and asked for a refund and said I would return another time. The girl said she could make the food now. The next few minutes all we heard was the microwave constantly going off and it was clear nothing was made fresh. Feijoada: apparently this is their most popular dish and I liked the vibrant colours. However the pork was overcooked and nothing tasted fresh except for the slice of orange. Strogonoff: the creamy sauce was not bad but it was so salty we were really thirsty after. The chicken was overcooked. Coxinha: I was excited to try tradition Brazilian croquettes but these were clearly frozen and again didn't taste fresh.

It looked like a coffee shop with their drinks and cakes, but also serves some Brazilian staples (feijoada, coxinha etc.). The theme is definitely on the casual side. There is a nice small covered patio in front. My biggest complaint was that the service was just atrocious. When I walked in, there was 1 customer in front of me. She was jabbering with the staff in Portuguese. The staff (both of them) saw me standing there and just ignored me. After a minute, I grabbed a menu off the table and stood there holding it. They looked at me again and kept on chatting with that customer. After a few minutes, another (3rd) customer arrived. This customer was confused too, as she couldn't tell if there was a lineup, since I was just standing around staring at the gaggle behind the counter. She then stood behind me and also waited for a few minutes, while the staff continued to ignore both of us. Total wait time was 12-13 minutes(!) before someone behind the counter decided to acknowledge our existence. Considering there were a total of 3 customers (not including a small group already seated), this is quite unacceptable. It was like the staff were there to socialize. The staff are obviously local Brazilians, as the cashier didn't have the best English. He didn't know what decaf was. Fortunately I had Google Translate. I ordered a flat white. They make this thing automatically with the push of a button. In other words, the coffee machine is similar to those found at car dealerships. I guess the redeeming factors was that the coffees here are quite inexpensive, and the flat white tasted decent for a generic coffee. My other complaint is that the cakes aren't made in house. Looks like they're made by a local bakery (Sinatra's). Price is definitely on the high side, but the carrot cake I had was very decent. I really wanted to like this place, but honestly have trouble recommending it. The service was atrocious, the coffees are office/gas station grade, and the cakes can just be obtained directly from the bakery supplier. Guess I'm going elsewhere for my next coffee/dessert fix.

This cafe merits repeat visits as I have enjoyed every item I ordered here. We especially liked their savory items such as breakfast sandwiches and the roast beef melt! Unfortunately, the lobster melt is no longer available on the menu or that would be my favourite. Bastion is a popular place for coffee drinkers to work on their laptops here, because there are outlets available by the round table area that looks into the gym. Service is quite efficient and they even offer free coffee grounds for your gardens when available. Hours of operation are great here, as it opens early and continues till dinner time. Lots of free parking available, though the community centre parking lot can get busy. In short, Bastion is a great coffee shop - whether you are here to catch up with friends over coffee or to stop by for a protein drink after workout or to grab a light meal to go or to simply sit down and enjoy some pastry for your sugar cravings...Bastion Coffee Kitchen won't disappoint!

I ordered the roast beef melt sandwich which is their signature and popular item. Well deserved! It's flavorful and the beef is very soft. You can bite through it easily and there's no dryness at all. It's great if you prefer softer food or teeth are not strong. Lots of tables and seating area. It only got crowded when people sat around waiting for their fitness class. The only drawback was the parking. It was almost full! I was lucky to find a spot round the corner. I sure didn't expect it to be so busy. Reminded me of the busy parking lot at Hillcrest CC in Vancouver. Maybe I was there when there were many fitness classes or activities then. Good place to have a bite or coffee after your workout or to meet friends.

My favorite is Soboro chestnut cube, sweet potato cube, Shio pan, mugwort mochi bun, mochi mochi bread and roll cakes. Cube breads are excellent items. Dough is very soft and fillings are great, especially Soboro chestnut cube's small chestnut pieces and crunchy soboro topping makes it addictive. Shio pan is very buttery , one of the best in town. I also liked Mochi mochi bread which had very chewy texture like mochi, but this time, I felt the one I had in the past tasted better. However, Rich bread was very good. The dough is similar to brioche with very rich, buttery flavor. This one is definitely better than before. Overall, I really liked their products. Highly recommend if you have a chance to visit North road

I've long heard about Korean salt bread and had been wanting to try. Maison mori offered a couple of salt bread selections. I didn't know which to get so I asked for recommendations. The staff wasn't helpful at all. "They're all good." She also said the bread is Korean style bread that is popular in Korea. Then I asked why use the Japanese word for salt, i.e. "shio". She then responded that the bread is Japanese style. Like, which is it? Korean or Japanese? After consulting Gemini AI, the two styles are fundamentally the same but the texture is different. Regardless of Japanese or Korean style, I got the original and black (squid ink). I honestly don't see what the hype is. It's essentially just butter roll with salt sprinkled on top. Lol.
