A lovely little bakery in Champlain Square food court. Offering western and eastern baked goods - a wide range of delicious goodies. Really enjoyed their apple pie - and came back later that week to try more! Also enjoyed their mincemeat tart (even though I ordered the pecan tart), cranberry oatmeal square and date square. I've walked past this place many times during my trips to Extra Foods but never actually bought anything here. Today I tried their blueberry scone and although it was tasty, it was a lot more akin to a buttermilk biscuit than a scone...actually it might as well have been a buttermilk biscuit featuring a hint of blueberry haha. They do have a pretty good assortment of baked goods up for grabs at a reasonable price though! read more

For the area, nice to have a fresh bakery, located inside the former Champlain Mall so not exactly a date material to have a coffee/latte like in the movies. Have tried their eclairs, just OK. Same for their macarons, for just $1.55, what the heck, and it didn't have the chewiness or strong enough flavours. You'd be hard pressed to actually taste the lemon and coffee. It's been here for years and friendly service. While most of the goodies are western-style, I did see a chinese-bun filled with cream and coconut sprinkles. accept debit/credit. read more

I was disappointed that they don't have hot dog buns (the Extra Foods next door only had Wonderbread buns), but they do have a bun with a sausage baked into it. The ham and cheese croissant is yummy! I don't remember what other buns I've tried, but they were good, too. The Light Rye bread, too. There's a food-court type seating area (though there are only 2 other stores). I don't remember if they accept Debit or Credit, but all the purchases I've made have been low enough that I have cash on hand. read more

Just got home with some treats to share with dad. 4 of each brownies, eclairs and butter tarts. Brownies - super fresh and moist. Eclairs tasted like they were at least 2 days old. This is an amazing place to enjoy the start of your day! I went their to take tmy blood test after a 14-hr fasting process. I felt a little bit faint after taking the blood sample and finding Bonnie's Bread Bakery was like being in the heaven! I had a Beef Courtney Pastry and a Cheese Onion Bread in the court and the taste was fantastic. The cheese Bread is crispy outside and fluffy as well as flavourful inside. The onion inside is fresh and well seasoned and the Beef Pastry was stuffed with chunks of meats and vegetables. It absolutely made my day! Apparently, this is a Chinese fusion Bakery where authentic bread loaf is also offered. You never want to miss the smell of wheat aroming in the air when the first batch just came out of the oven at 8:00 in the morning. Last thing is, they also offer discounts on day-before items and they also taste great! I took a pineapple bun and a ham egg sandwich for lunch for less than $2.00 and felt pretty full after meal. This place is gonna be the spot I will definitely drop by before work on a frequent basis (If not every day) ^_^. read more

Ahhh Bonnie's. My very first job. Yes, I too was one of the smiling teenagers serving up piping ht cheese sticks and slicing fresh loaves of bread while you waited. That was a long, long, 10 years ago now but I am so happy that Bonnie's is still around. I know that Bonnie and Steven (the original owners) have long since retired and the bakery was sold to the bakers that have worked there for years - thus the flavors are still the same. I really don't know how I wasn't 500lbs while working here! Some favs from an insider: Bread - Buttercrust or a small sour dough. Cookies - Icebox for your chocolate fix or peanut butter when they are piping hot. Sausage Rolls - DROOL. Cinnamon Buns (with extra frosting duh) - DOUBLE DROOL. If there is something special you are looking for, you can also always call and order ahead. The staff will box up whatever it is and have it ready waiting for you - no need to hum and haw over the expansive display cases :) The girls that work here are always polite, albeit sometimes a little shy. Since I can remember, Bonnie's has hired local employees - most of them students at the near-by highschool. It really helps keep that community feel that a lot of Cob's type places are missing. They have also started to take debit and credit in the recent years, which is a great modification from old school cash only. This bakery and I go waaaaay back: My mom and I use to take walks to Champlain Mall, and she would buy me their cheese sticks for a snack. Yeah that's right, a cheese stick. And they are pretty much the best cheese sticks in town! Why? Because they aren't all doughy like most places make them (if they make them at all), they are wonderfully speckled with cheese! I loved eating them back then, and I still love eating them now. Bonnie's Bakery has been around for years (even before the huge rezoning of Champlain Mall, now known as Champlain Square)...here's something for time reference: It was here when Woodward's was here (who here remembers Woodwards?). I'm not only a fan of their cheese sticks, but their apple crumb pies! Though the availability of the pies are seasonal (just as the fruits used are seasonal), I love their apple pies because they're not overly sweet and I don't feel guilty about eating it as dessert as much. Brownies and strawberry cream cheese cupcakes is another favorite dessert/pastry I love here. If ever you're in the neighbourhood, you should check it out! Atmosphere: It is a store front bakery, open in the mall. The window displays are always clean, you can tell that everything is displayed nicely, however, not too pretentious. Service: It's very busy during the day since this is a popular pastry spot, you're never waiting in line more than 1 minute from time you're served, rang through and on your way. I've been going to the bakery for years, since I was 5 in this hood of Champlain Heights. The service has always been consistent and always with a smile. The staff are young high school kids, however, never jaded with attitude from the shitty atmosphere of commercial fast food working joint. They're awesome kids working there and always have been. They are you're neighborhood teenagers just trying to earn some $$$ with a smile. Price: The prices have remained consistently reasonable over the years, however, due to the economy and inflation, the serving sizes have shrunk. Most notably in the chocolate cupcakes, however, I always say quality over quantity. Food: One of the best bakeries that I have ever been to. This hidden gem is inside Champlain Mall and unless you're from the hood, you wouldn't know that it exists, however, when Justin Timberlake was in town shooting a movie, he made one of his assistants go down and grab some Bonnie's bakery, therefore, before yelp and social media, someone was hearing about this bakery and the reputation spread. I was on set during that filming and apparently JT and I weren't the only ones addicted to the cheese sticks....a lot of the crew were to. Chocolate cupcakes, cheese sticks, chicken curry pies and mini cheese cake slices are the best and seem to be the most popular items ordered. They also have one of the best selections of bread and during Christmas the hot cross buns are to die for. read more

I came in here specifically to buy Nanaimo bars before leaving Canada. The display cases were very well stocked and I was able to buy the six bars I wanted no problem which they boxed up nicely. There was a great selection of baked treats! I'd been hoping to buy a coffee too for the road but I didn't see coffee as an option (nor did I ask). This bakery is inside the food court area of the strip mall! I state this because it caused some confusion for us while looking for it. read more

Now let me write this review and I'll tell you as a kid growing up in vancouver since 2000 I remember this bakery was in a big mall known as Champlain mall not Champlain square and as a kid my grandmother Everytime I would go here would always get me baked goods here even back when Shirley's bakery in Killarney was still in we would go here and Wing-Wah chinese bakery and dim sum, a few weeks ago I paid I visit here and it looks the same as I saw it as a kid, my grandmother would always either get me Coconut cocktail bun(not the cream one.) or a Cheese Stick or a cheese and green onion bread bun which was medium small but was great after every doctors appointment I would come here to get a bite to eat. I really do miss this place since I don't live in the area and I can only bus it here but this bakery was amazing as a kid. read more

I used to go to this bakery all the time (as did my co-workers) when I worked in Champlain Heights. This has got to be one of my favourite bakeries! They have a nice selection of sweet and savory items. I would often get the ham and cheese croissant or spinach croissant, which were around $1.75 - cheaper and better than the ones at COBS bread. The cheese sticks are great too and are $1.00 I believe. For sweets, I liked the Nanaimo bars a lot. Their sandwich bread is really fresh. Overall this place gets top marks for deliciousness, selection, and value! I definitely recommend Bonnie's Bread. read more

Great mini sourdough bread loaves which is perfect for 1-2 people.

Cornish Pasty had thin crust, filling was bursting with a beefy smack in the face with a little rosemary tickle. Loaves are very reasonably priced. Danishes were flaky with semi-sweet custard. What a wonderful unpretentious bakery with wide selection of goodies. Full of adorable senior fans in the morning. read more
