The box was gold and red, with a golden foiled design on the lid and a gold string ribbon to keep the lid closed. The pastries themselves were gorgeous. Just looking at them made my mouth water. They were soft and crumbly to the touch. The buns of the pastry were buttery and the outer layer was very flaky with every bite. Some of the pastry buns had sesame seeds sprinkled on the top. They were all baked perfectly. The inside fillings were quite sweet but no overly sweet. There was no indication on the box on what kind of pastries they were so im not totally sure what kind of pastries i received. Some had a sweet tasting filling with an egg yolk or a century egg center, just red bean paste, or just some other type of sweet filling. I shared the pastries with my family over afternoon green tea and they were a hit! My family loved them. The wife cakes I received were very soft, tasted delicious, and sweet but not as sweet as the assorted pastries. They were filled with winter melon filling, i believe. They were also made a great pairing when they were served with tea. They were all individually wrapped with plastic wrap which helped keep them fresh.
