Mmmm, I love the smell of fresh bread! ...which is exactly what you will smell when you step foot into this store! I came here on a rainy weekday morning and was greeted by a showcase of freshly baked pastries and bread along with a happy and gleeful man who welcomed me in! The first pastry that caught my attention was the cinnamon bun. It looked sweet and warm...and I could hear him calling my name and whispering eat me. So I did and it was probably THE BEST cinnamon roll I've had. Sweet, moist, cinammon-y...with a warm icing that tasted oh-so-perfect with the bun...oh gosh nobody can pass this up! So this is the new Cob's Bread opened on Aug 18th last week. I passed by here prior to opening and sampled some of their pastry. I fell in love with their scones and normally I don't like scones because of dry texture. But Cob's Bread is different. It is bit expensive; however, their baked goods are amazing. I think Spinach Croissant was around $3 and Blueberry Scone was $1.80 I can't remember. Their Blueberry Scones are soft and sweet. Cinnamon Scone is really good too. It's crispy, sweet and soft. I came here in search of hot cross buns from my childhood in NZ, but unfortunately they dont make those in the autumn months. I consoled myself with the apricot bread, which I had learned from fellow yelpers that there was no sugar added to it. They sliced it up for me and the server also gave me tips on toasting it and dabbing butter on to make it extra amazing. The bread was amazing just munching it directly (okay, so I wasn't patient enough to wait for access to a toaster), crispy shell with a ton of fruit on the inside, and just enough dough to hold it all together. I am not one to pass by a bakery without scoping it out, so scope Cobs out we did, and then ended up returning two or three times during our five days in Vancouver. Like you do. With the prices (especially if you throw in the US dollar exchange rate), you can afford to try one of everything. We didn't quite do that, but we did okay. I loved the apricot roll--loaded with raisins and bits of dried apricot, almost like a more delicious take on a fruit cake. Found out after eating several that they're made without any added sugar or oil. Nice. The real winner was the cinnamon roll. Tender, moist, cinnamon-y, not too sweet, perfect amount of frosting. On one of our return visits, they were out of the single rolls, so we went for the box of six. Upside: we just ate out all the middles and left the slightly less decadent outside edges untouched. Really strange experience. We went in, as we love baked goods and the store looked very inviting. Bought some "pull apart" bread that the male employee behind the counter highly recommended, some rolls, and some pastries. The pull-apart Bread tasted nice when you pulled on the top, but was not so great when you tried to eat the rest. Pastries were not good, but that is okay - generally a bread bakery is good at bread, and not also at being a bakery. The rolls we bought we enjoyed. We went in again the next day, and the same employee was there. He seemed grouchy...not sure why. He kept digressing into politics....it was so bizarro. We just wanted to give them business. He made us so uncomfortable, that we left after purchasing less than we had planned. Not sure what is "up" with this place! It really looks nice from the outside. Their cinnamon bun used to be big and square with lots of cinnamon. Now they make it as a danish shape instead which is flatter with less cinnamon. It does not look tempting at all (e.g. the ones from Safeway look better). Also, they had downsized their other products as well (e.g. scones). The Robson outlet of this bakery chain was convenient to our hotel so I ended up stopping in 3 times while on vacation. I am an early riser so every morning before the bakery opened I would see them baking fresh bread and pastries. The first morning I purchased a pair of blueberry scones that were moist, but lacked the typical tasted of a scone. On subsequent visits I picked up mini foccacias that we shared for as a quick lunch. First time it was a cheese, herb and garlic and then a few days later a tomato, olive, mushroom. Ordered a cinnamon bun -- it was huge that my husband and I opted to just share one. Creamy, soft, and warm -- I'd say that's the perfect cinnamon bun! Aside from the food, what I love best about this place is the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. We walked in just to check out the pastries and randomly asked how do we get to the Vancouver Lookout. The staff proceeded to draw out a map for us, called out landmarks we should be checking out, even her estimated minutes of how long of a walk it'll take us to get there, and some other suggestions of spots to check out! Delicious scones and breads! Stopped by on a whim while walking around the area to celebrate Canada Day. The bakery smelled amazing and you can tell the products are fresh. The place wasn't too busy and we were assisted within minutes. The employees are very patient for first-timers not sure of what they want, and are very helpful. The scones are moist and the fruit breads are soft and packed with fruit. Wish I had a similar bakery back home! read more

First time here (as in any Cobs) so I went with a random; zero judgement, grabbed a loaf as a gift for friends, hoping to impress, after all I was showing up in a bike with a basket, to not have a loaf would have been tragic. The "Apricot etc" loaf. A masterpiece bound by its moist texture, refined by its dynamic slopes, romantic and complex, it quickly put a smile on everyone's face. One friend applied butter, another tried orange marmalade as an array of spreads were presented. I love Cobs bread and I have been a regular customer for years. One thing I don't understand though is why they don't use gloves or tongs when they touch food. Seems self explanatory for a bakery/restaurant, right?? Apparently not at COBS! I went to the Robson location to buy a pastry and the female employee literally used her bare HANDS to touch the pastry before handing it to me. What the heck!!!!!!!! Why would you think it's safe or even okay to use your hands to touch the food you are serving your customers. Bread is great but the rewards program is absolutely horrible. When you earn an reward you just have 2 weeks to collect it otherwise it's gone. The previous point cards were much better without expiry date. We would cash them in when placing an large order. With the new system if you forget it's gone which is very dishonest. read more

Baked fresh everyday. We stopped in last night after closing and saw them bagging some stuff. We were told they donate to a woman's shelter. They have a small selection of breads, pastries, croissants, scones. Two types of hot cross buns. We asked whether it's cheaper to buy in packs, and we were told it's a better value to buy in a pack (4 or 6 depending on item). We love value :) Enjoyed the hot cross buns especially the orange cranberry ones. Flavorful without being sickeningly sweet. I did have to heat them up though. Room temperature ones were hard. I got four items at 845am and all were cool/cold from refrigeration probably from the night before. A little disappointing to go to a bakery in the morning and not get hot and fresh stuff. What a scrumptious smelling place. Our family of four spent 2 days in Vancouver prior to our cruise and found this lovely bakery while touring the city. The kids really loved the cinnamon buns. Since we cannot find this bakery in our U.S. town it was quite a treat. However, the dude who waited on us began ranting about our president and inserting his political views into our short convo. I was so stunned I said nothing in response but have to wonder if there aren't any Cob's rules regarding this sort of conversation in the workplace. Since we said absolutely nothing in response how did he know if he offended us or not? His views were quite inflammatory and actually kept us from returning the next day even though the bakery goods were yummy. I did not see a name tag for him but he was short and thin and wears glasses. Try to avoid having any sort of convo with this dude.
