The service is always warm and attentive, and if you let them know that you're going to the Pantages, they do everything they can to get you there in plenty of time. (It's an easy walking distance to the Pantages and parking at or across from the restaurant is half the cost of parking on Vine.) Went to a 6pm dinner on a weeknight. I was looking for a nice quiet place for dinner and was recommended here by several sources. Upon arrival I was greeted quickly and brought to my table. Small, but very charming outdoor environment. It was a chilly evening, so I was happy to see heaters outside. The menu was a beautiful array of choices, although only beer, and wine to drink. The food arrived timely and was also beautiful. I had ordered steak, which I asked for pink in the middle but got raw. Raw always scares me, so I asked if they could put it on the fire a bit longer, which I sort felt I was made to feel bad about. Sort of like I made the mistake? Afterwards it was fine. The food was very good. The oddest thing was in the middle of the meal the outdoor heaters were turned off. It got incredibly cold. It felt like the restaurant was saying, ok. From the outside you could easily miss it, but once you walk in and head to the back patio, it's this cute outdoor space full of plants that gives total Italian vibe. The strange thing about Running Goose is that I have now "stumbled across them" three times, so documenting my most recent experience on Yelp so that it doesn't happen again...because they are SO WORTH the intentional trip out for dinner or brunch. A rare mimosa deal, kind/fun staff, intentional wine list, a "secret garden" vibe, and deep, unique flavors make this so much more than a "let's stop in before our show at the Pantages" meal (...but it's also great for that!) The owner, Armen, is an absolute gem of a man and one of our guests recognized him as the previous owner of Green Street Tavern in Pasadena, where they had so many wonderful memories. Easy 5 stars. I'm honestly shocked this place exists. The Running Goose is global comfort food done at a level you don't expect walking in. Started with the grilled brie -- wow. No idea what magic was going on there but it was insane. Then the smoked potatoes... that sauce was unreal, like spoon-it-straight addictive. The service is very nice and personable, but we didn't enjoy the food tremendously. Went here before the pantages matinee on Saturday. The baked : roasted Bree was very exciting as it was sizzling as it came to the table, but I really didn't enjoy either of the toast which was cracker consistency or the apricot jam.. the flavors were just not a good mix for me. The brie was totally melted and really there was not much flavor there. I had the wild boar hash and it really just tasted like regular pork. There was nothing spectacular about it although it was well done and the egg was good. My dining companion had the Chilaquiles. The atmosphere is quiet, with a really nice outdoor spaced patio. We tried their Brie bread, lamp chops, burgers, and chilaquiles. All fantastic! Their lamp chops are appetizers so expect a small size but they were made very well with delicious sauces. Those who ordered the burgers really enjoyed the taste and how it was cooked, fries are fantastic. I had the chilaquiles, good portion and tons of short rib. A great combo! I had a bad experience here. Perhaps it's a one time bad experience and I hope they figure it out. I ordered a ribeye medium rare. It came out well done and grey. I requested it to be more in line with medium rare and I was told that because the rib eye was such a thin cut they couldn't cook it medium rare. So they returned me a blue steak completely rare. Then I was told how I was wrong and thin cuts can't be made medium rare. At the end I just didn't eat anything and I paid $45 for inept cooking. Needless to say I won't return and I would recommend they either take the rib eye off the menu or figure out how to cook a thin steak somewhere between well done and blue. read more

The sweet potato and carrot purée worked perfectly together, and the cherry port reduction was beautifully balanced. It didn't overpower the dish at all, it complemented it. My only small note is that a few parts of the duck were cold, which makes me think it may have been pre-cooked and then seared without fully coming to temp. That said, it was so good I genuinely did not care. I had zero desires to send it back and almost licked the plate clean. I fully expected to have leftovers and instead finished every bite.
