It's a four for sure! My original plan was dune bros, but they opened the next day ...c'est la vie. A short jaunt away is this humble abode. Immediately upon entry we were greeted and seated. A no frills, yet well attended to establishment. The menu is expansive, but not overwhelming. I opted for the recommended Frankenstein. So thankful I did! They offer a 50/50 sandwich with soup or salad. The Caesar salad was a great lighter fare. The most noteworthy point of the experience was that the bread is picked up daily from a bakery. My company ordered from the Rue Bis Catering Menu and the food was delivered to our office. I had the box lunch with Italian calzone, Cape Cod Chips, pickles, cookie, and water. The Italian calzone had ham, salami, provolone, & hot peppers. It was tasty, but I wish it was more thicker like filled more. The bread was good. Overall, everything in the box lunch was filling. I would be interested in visiting Rue Bis in person. It'll be an okay spot to try their other sandwiches. read more

Not sure, but I think this place might be a little-known gem in RI, partly because there is just one sign directly above the door, so people don't necessarily see it by just driving by. Anyway, three of us went here yesterday for breakfast/brunch because my daughter mentioned that it was near the morning meeting we had just gone to. Great food, great people service (shout-out to Barbara), and quaint atmosphere. One of us had a homemade muffin, another had the tomato/mozzarella/basil egg sandwich, and I had a roasted peppers/provolone omelette with tasty home fries and bakery fresh wheat bread toast - yummy all around! I found this little gem completely by accident. I was returning some items to Amazon at the UPS store closest to my office. It was lunchtime, a nice day and I was starving. The nondescript, unassuming little building across the street from the UPS Store was flying an 'Open' flag by the front door, so I Googled the menu and decided to try it. There was plenty of street parking so I fed a meter and walked on in. The interior is simple but cozy. I was greeted right away and found a small table. The dining room was about half full and there were a few people at the counter. Some breakfast specials remained on the chalkboard but it was after 12:00pm, so the lunch menu was presented. I decided on the Grilled Eggplant on Ciabatta, with goat cheese, baby spinach and sun dried tomato pesto. Sides were fries (baked) or Asian cucumber salad. It also came with two thickly sliced homemade dill pickles. The entire meal was delicious. The bread was lightly toasted - just enough crunch without injuring the roof of my tender mouth. The combination of delicate flavors and textures was perfect. The fries were a bit chewy, but still good. And extra points for the pickles, for sure! (Sometimes, it's the smallest touch that makes a memorable meal). Service was friendly and attentive. Ambiance very nice. I just walked over for a bowl of soup. It says chicken rice on their chalkboard sign and I confirmed with the person at the front who replied, " I think so". When I got back to the office I poured it from the to go container to a bowl. There are 3 large bay leaves in it,1 small piece of chicken and maybe 4 diced carrots and celery. There is no stock and no flavor. I feel like she gave me the beginning of a soup; it tastes like garlicky dishwater. I am so disappointed. $6.20 wasted. We have ordered 4 times. 3/4 times our order was wrong or missing items. 1 time our brown bag special had no cookie/brownie, another time our breakfast was missing potatoes (hash or home fries whatever they call it). And this time my "Soup served with focaccia bread" was missing the focaccia. I had specifically asked if they had it before even ordering. My friend picked up the order - checked on cookie and didn't check bread. I called and they said "you can come pick it up". They had 2 small round slices of Italian bread waiting for me. Italian bread and focaccia are not the same. If this is what you serve change description. Very disappointing as I ordered because I had a taste for a good focaccia. Have had lunch here twice, and both times enjoyed it more than I expected. The restaurant is in a lonely, nearly desolate stretch of street a block from the children's museum, in an unassuming small house. My first visit I kept circling the corners looking for a more built up entrance. Walking in you see a few smallish tables, takeout counter and stools by the kitchen area, but there are some four tops. Many of the customers seem to be regulars, friendly with the waitress. Service both times was great - even for us strangers. My food was terrific: first visit I had the breakfast burrito. Piping hot eggs, beans, cheese & salsa on the side. Best I'd ever had. Next visit, yummy yummy chicken salad sandwich. Fries cooked just right. My friends liked their salads too. Ready to eat here again. Maybe I'll try breakfast next time! read more

I walked in and thought I entered a diner. Very low key and casual - that's fine, but misleading based off the adorable exterior and street view. A bit of a wait to get the order in, and an even longer wait for the food. It's one thing when you wait for a meal that's amazing. But this was less than mediocre. I ordered the Frankenstein, per the recommendation of the cashier. It sounded good, but when I bit into it, I needed to double check the menu. All I could taste was chicken and mozzarella. Homemade herb mayo? Again, had to open the thing to see if that was true. The tomato was also MIA taste wise. I saw it, but it was small - so no wonder the taste buds were confused. Not worth $9.25 for a meal I could have crafted to perfection in my own kitchen. Nothing French about this at all. In fact, nothing French about any of the menu options - misleading. Given that there aren't that many places in the immediate area to grab a quick lunch I can see why it is popular, but I would probably frequent Olga's or Bagel Gourmet instead if I worked down there and needed a go-to lunch spot. Service: very sweet and efficient. I went at an off-hour (1:30; way after the lunch rush) and was served a hot meal in 15 minutes. Food: I had the sweet potato soup and a half chopped salad with chickpeas, feta, mango, and chicken. The soup was too sweet for me (it tasted as if it had a pureed apple base), but the salad and herbed dressing were on point. My companion had a Bacon, Egg, Tomato on a flatop-grilled ciabatta roll. It looked amazing. We both ordered the cucumber salad on the side, which was decent, but not spicy enough for me. All that, copious amounts of coffee, and seriously sweet service, all for $20. The food here is not bad, but the service could really use some improving. We sat down for 10 minutes and finally got our menus, and then another 15 minutes until we could even get our orders in. It was incredibly frustrating. The sandwiches here are great for lunch - I really enjoy the wild bill (turkey with special mayo, Swiss). Their cucumber salad is fantastic - pickled just the right amount, sliced thinly with a little crunch with the sesame seeds sprinkled on the top. Alright, Rue-Bis. I found you and I tried your Rue Wrap. It was supposed to be on a sundried tomato wrap, but I got whole wheat (blech). I couldn't really taste the lemongrass mayo, and the chicken was over-cooked and stringy. The tomato was mealy, and that cucumber salad had seen better days. Maybe it's because I came late in the day, but there was only ONE person working, and I had to wait a good 15 minutes for her to come out of the kitchen to take my order. Then I had to wait 15 more to get my wrap. ANd THEN she didn't charge me correctly. Odd. All in all, truly disappointing which is sad because you're cute, Rue-Bis. A five minute trot from work, delicious wraps, and a super pleasant staff, well, Rue-Bis has proven to be a pretty great place to get my lunch on. The Chicken Caesar wrap isn't anything out of the ordinary, but it's fresh and crisp, and tastes just the way you'd hope for it to. The Rue Wrap is awesome! Crispy bacon, grilled chicken, fresh lettuce, slices of yummy tomato, and Swiss cheese.It's a killer combination and I'd recommend it to anyone who happens to be feeling a little meaty. Food wise, the only thing I'm not a fan of is the fries. They've always been a little floppy and greasy. I would just grab a bag of chips instead. I don't remember the brand they carry, it may or may not be local, but whatever they are, they're baked and delicious. Again, super, super service. The folks working there are all smiles and understanding. I've never had a bad experience and I have an even harder time imagining it even possible. Great atmosphere! And I'm hard pressed to think of a place that combines them better than Rue Bis, which serves the giant peanut butter cookie of my dreams. Dense, fresh, packed with peanuts and peanut butter chips, and just the right mix of crumbly-yet-moist: this, my friend, is the definitive afternoon snack (my usual peanut butter protein bars are just sad, by comparison). I've been going to Rue Bis since it occupied a charming little hole in the wall in the Jewelry/Knowledge District. They've since expanded to a larger space that is a great place to come in for a cup of coffee, vanilla or spiced chai tea, salad, soup or a sandwich. This is a popular place for takeout and meeting catering, with lots of offices within walking distance (among them: two where I used to work). The food and drinks are pretty standard fare, but offer a nice break from my usual brown bag existence. You'll find a very familial environment here. I've seen at least one of the friendly faces behind the counter for the better part of a decade. Familiarity in a neighborhood eatery like Rue Bis, breeds comfort. So, too, does their legendary shredded cucumber salad; the sweetness and vinegar harmonize well, with flavorful seeds swimming around in the mix. A sandwich order is not complete, without a small side of "cuke salad," served in a tiny paper cup. Service is always friendly and helpful; there's a small staff that's been there since Rue Bis opened so they know what they're doing. Sometimes the wait can be awhile in the lunch rush, so I usually call ahead for takeout. The food is consistently fresh n tasty. I cautiously ordered a cream of mushroom soup last week and - wow - it was earthy and creamy without being heavy. The eggplant sandwich is amazing - what do they do to that eggplant!? First of all, if there was just a star category for customer service, I'd give them a 6/5. The people who work here are so kind and considerate, and I feel more than welcome every time I stop by. I've never been here specifically for breakfast, but everything on that menu looks and smells delicious. I am a huge fan of their yellow mug deal... Free coffee on Mondays is always a plus. Everything on the lunch menu is extremely reasonably priced, especially given how good the food tastes, and the quantities that you receive. I'm partial to the Frankenstein sandwich, and the Good salad; and lo and behold, if I am unable to decide between the two, the have a half salad/sandwich option. We were in Providence for the children's museum and needed a quick lunch. Rue-bis (pronounced Ruby's), had a good selection of items. My clan had the pancakes and bacon. The bacon was crispy but tender. Definitely not your ordinary bacon. The pancakes were awesome. Somehow they had a slightly crunchy exterior but a super soft middle. Definitely tasted a bit like a biscuit, but sweet like a pancake. I'm a 300lb dude and I couldn't finish my order of 3 pancakes. They were so filling. In short, go to Rue-bis. It's almost embarrassing how many times I've been to Rue Bis since the start of my new job in Providence. Almost embarrassing. When I first started at my new job, a colleague invited me to lunch at Rue Bis to welcome me to the team. She was upfront about this establishment possibly becoming an addiction, and an addiction it did become. For the next week (and I started on a Monday), I ate at the Rue every day. It's fair to say any time I start eating at the Rue on a Monday, I'll be there for the rest of the week. The sandwiches are incredibly fresh, from the soft bread to the meat that just melts in your mouth. Bacon - if added to a sandwich - is cooked perfectly. It's crispy and flavorful, rather than limp and tough. Every time I go to the Rue, I tell myself I'm going to get something on the specials board or try a salad instead, but the sandwiches are just so fresh it's hard to resist. Plus, anything that comes on ciabatta is hard to pass up. The staff also makes this little spot an enjoyable experience. Any of the staff is willing to come up to you while you're eating and strike up a conversation. And they remember you! I love Rue Bis! i don't generally find myself loved to right a review but it occurred to me today how often I actually go there for lunch and it only seemed fair for me to give them a great review considering how many times they have given me great service. I'm a creature of habit, and i don't eat meat, so for me it's the Hummus Wrap with Cucumber salad every time I go, although ocassionally I'll get whatever soup of the day catches my eye--the black bean is fantastic. I love the fact that get either cucumber salad or oven baked fries with your sandwich, the fries are good but the freshness of the salad can't be beat. I only wish there was more of it. the best part, hands down, about Rue-Bis is the service. They are so friendly and always refer to you by name.
