I went to Frank & Laurie's for breakfast on my birthday and had the most amazing time! Our server, Caro, was so lovely and gave us such a great experience! I was torn between the pancakes and the biscuit with strawberry jam, but Caro suggested that I get the pancakes WITH the strawberry jam - this was a game changer! I love that they have a coffee corner, where you can order coffee and bring it back to your table. My fig leaf nitro latte was amazing! To make the experience extra special, Caro brought out a brownie with a birthday candle in it for me! It was such a sweet touch (and a delicious brownie)! food here was good, but also quite expensive. we got the lamb sausage, hashbrowns, deviled eggs, and biscuit. the lamb sausage was fantastic, the fennel mint and onions paired super nicely with the juicy and fatty sausage. it was a well balanced and unique dish that was totally worth it. hashbrowns were also fantastic, i've never quite had a hash brown with that texture, super crispy but not too oily while maintaining a good salty potato flavor. the deviled eggs were nothing to write home about and the biscuit was solid, i wished there was more jam though. my main complaint here was the service. it took an hour to be seated which we expected, but the tables around us were getting free desserts because of the wait time, yet we weren't offered one. we all arrived at the same time and waited the same time, which rubbed us the wrong way, but didn't mind too much. the main thing that off put me was the 20% service charge at the end, we were not told by the front desk person or our waiter til the very end when we got the check about this. it was also not stated on the menu. for a party of two i was shocked that we were forced into that amount without anyone informing us about it. this should 100% be put on the menu or just told to customers. i don't mind tipping this much but i truly do believe the patron should tip based off of the quality of food and service, rather than being forced into a certain amount without prior knowledge. it's not a deal breaker whatsoever, but id like to be told up front about it this sort of stuff. overall i would totally come back and try some more of their food options, i also now know what to expect price wise. i was a little disappointed on service but the food is worth it. read more

3.5 stars but not at all because of the quality of food. We waited over 45 minutes for our food while watching others who sat down AGES after us and therefore ordered AGES after us get their food. They ended up giving us free brownies and free orange juice to make up for their mistake (maybe forgot to put our order in?), but still maybe could've gotten a comp for one of our dishes that we had already ordered instead of new dishes we didn't need. I'm grateful don't get me wrong just.... The food was delicious though. I'm not a huge biscuit person but the biscuit was yummy and flaky which I feel like is different from normal ones? Idk regardless was good and it came with grapefruit jam and butter yum. The hash browns were hands down my fav dish. So oily and crispy and everything a hash brown should be MMMM plus the aioli and cubed presentation. The pancakes were so good and fluffy and GIANT and the whipped butter was yummy on top. The maitake madame was something different but nonetheless good. It was very mustardy but also not too overwhelmingly mustardy and the cheese on top the crispy bread was perfect. Overall, I liked Frank and Laurie's and will likely visit again so I can get a better feel for their menu. I enjoyed my coffee, and the hash browns were perfectly crisp and paired nicely with an aioli. I thought the quiche was OK; I liked the sweet potato topping but felt like the egg was not as cooked as I am used to. Therefore, that may be just my personal preference and not an issue with the restaurant. I am usually pretty adventurous with food and not very picky, but I did not love the deviled eggs either. However, my friend really enjoyed the pancakes and it was a pretty generous portion. In terms of ambiance, this is an adorable spot to catch up with friends over brunch. Definitely call and make a reservation for large groups, or expect to wait a bit when you check in; I went with one person on a Wednesday at noon and only waited 15 minutes, which was not bad! Finally made it to Frank & Laurie's for dinner! The restaurant was cozy and quite nice inside. My friend and I shared everything and it was more than enough food. We got the tuna crudo, which was light and the perfect amount of citrus. We also got mussels with creamed beans, which was an interesting combination and probably my fav dish of the night. The lasagna was quite unique, as it was crispy instead of the regular soft lasagna. We finished with a kiwi chocolate mousse, which was delicious and reminded me of mint chocolate. Frank & Lauries was our first stop in Providence and we can see why Gwyneth Paltrow gave them a shout out (supposedly). We started off with some bevvies from the counter while we waited for our table. I got the special paw paw latte. It was an interesting concept but to be completely honest, it just tasted like a latte to me! I didn't taste anything special or any subtle notes of pear or anything fruity for that matter. This was a miss for me. For food, we decided on the hash browns to share and I got their special scallop salad. It was really nice and refreshing for the hot day. My husband got the patty melt and devoured it. I had a bite as well and it was delicious. We also had the deviled eggs which were definitely more elevated than the deviled eggs I grew up on. Frank and Laurie's puts a lot of thought and effort into their food, that is clear. The dine in area is buzzing on a weekend- there aren't many places you'll walk into with the same kind of energy. The staff seems like they really enjoy what they're doing; despite running around non-stop. The food is great, however I think I had quite high expectations that were not met. I'd say my expectations correlated pretty well the pricing of things.. It's expensive here. California specialty bakery/French pastiserie prices without delivering as well. The quiche was very good but it leaned slighty to far towards gelatinous for me. I would have liked for it to lean more towards creamy or eggy, it was too gelatin-like. The sauces, flavors, peppers and texture from the fried cheese were phenomenal. The crust was lackluster. $18 is steep for even a quiche of this size. Especially with the automatic %20 gratuity. More on that later. The Croque monsieur was overall kind of a let down. The bread was wonderfully tangy, slight chew, good texture and depth of flavor- likely helped by the ground mustard. The roasted pork was flavorless, dry, and just kind of fell apart. The egg should have been a runny egg- scrambled egg here was also not a value add. A runny yolk would have helped with mouth feel all around. $19 on this is OK, still pricey, but it was substantial. Just not amazing. The donut, I personally wouldn't bother. The texture of the donut was very good but the filling had no flavor. Wait for them to have a more fruit forward flavor then I'd say go for it. This was a creamed corn flavor or something like that. $6 Not pictured I got their hot coffee, just don't. There are too many great coffee shops close by to drink mediocre coffee. Wasted $5, unfortunately. Now, the gratuity. Automatic 20%? Fine.. Until I'm waiting an hour for my food.. And the staff isn't Eben on top of keeping the water full when we were sitting at the bar area. The service was absolutely not worthy of a 20% tip. I can't say I'll be riding to come back but I'll try the dinner here at some point- my expectations are a bit more tempered now and yours should be, too. Don't expect a life changing experience. This is such a cute family owned place that also has amazing food. We came here for brunch and there was a long wait which was well worth it. We ordered a lambrusco spritz to start and it was a very wintery drink that was still light. For food, we started with hasbrowns which were unique in that they were shredded potatoes that were then in a cube shape and fried. Despite being fried, these did not feel ultra heavy, and since there are only 4 in an order, its a good side dish. The restaurant was very accommodating an alternative aioli sauce with it since the original one had an ingredient Im allergic to. For our main food, I ordered a maitake madam and my husband had the pancake special which came with a strawberry sauce. The maitake madam was savory and unlike anything Ive had. The bread had a nice crisp to it while still being soft and the souffle eggs were ultra light and fluffy. The mushrooms gave the dish a nice body and the raclette cheese + dijon mushroom gave the dish an umami flavor. I really liked this dish but it is very filling. The pancakes were also a large portioned dish. The pancakes were very fluffy and light, and the strawberry sauce was sweet but not over powering. The blend of pancake and strawberry sauce made each bite satisfying and not too sweet. Our server was also very friendly and attentive despite how busy this place was. I had a lovely brunch at Frank & Laurie's. I decided to order a few different dishes, starting with the deviled eggs - with roe and crunch they had a lovely texture and taste. I also ordered one of the seasonal salads, with celery root, lemon, and apples. It was very well prepared and plated. The lemons dominated the flavor profile of the salad. This place recently opened up near me and I checked it out with a friend for brunch. We both got a milkshake, and said it was one of the better milkshakes we've had. They're vanilla with a black cherry, and the option to add liquor. For food, I got the steamed egg and sausage English muffin sandwich. The creamy streamed egg was interesting, but I thought the sausage was the standout component. I'd probably try something else next time, but it was a solid breakfast sandwich. There was both indoor and outdoor seating, and we opted for outside. The tables are good for two, but since they're folding one side it isn't as comfortable to sit at because you can't put your legs under it. Frank & Laurie's opened in May 2024 at 110 Doyle Ave. in Providence. Parking is available along Doyle Ave. and Camp Ave. Frank & Laurie's renovated the former Rebelle Bagel space. There are tables for two and four, long shared tables and seats at the counter bar. They can seat 40 inside and there are 2 tables for outside dining. Breakfast & lunch is available Wednesday to Sunday: 10am-3pm. Walk-ins only and no reservations. I arrived on Saturday around 12:00pm and the hostess informed me that only outside seating was available. It was a nice cool November day so it wasn't too bad sitting outside. The menu is small and limited of breakfast and bistro dishes complemented by cocktails, wine and beer, and locally roasted coffee. We started with the hashbrowns with smoked oyster aioli. The hashbrowns were cube shaped, crispy on the outside and shredded potatoes inside. The aioli was delicious. I had the Red Wine & Coke and breakfast sandwich. In Spain, the kalimotxo is made of equal parts red wine and Coca-Cola. I didn't have this drink in Spain but I did have Tinto de verano, it is similar to sangria and is typically made up of 1 part of table red wine and 1 part soda, usually lemonade. I liked the Red Wine & Coke; it was a bit bubbly and smooth. The breakfast sandwich was an English muffin with steamed egg, sausage, onion, and cheese. The English muffin was crunchy and gave the whole sandwich texture. The steamed egg, sausage, caramelized onion, and cheese were very fresh. My husband had the soup of the day which was a honeynut squash soup and the Ham & Butter sandwich. He thought the honeynut squash soup would be a little thicker. The Ham & Butter sandwich was good, but it was pretty normal. Liam was our server and he was friendly and attentive. The one 'misstep' was an expensive and not so tasty cup of drip coffee ($5 a cup?) that otherwise did not mar a stellar breakfast. I definitely need to revisit Frank & Laurie's but I was not wowed on my initial visit. We live nearby so stopped by soon after opening in the summer. Because we came on a weekday we didn't have the wait that others have described on weekends and were able to immediately grab an outdoor table. It's a small menu so I think next time I would recommend ordering a few options to share for the table. I got the egg sandwich and honestly I really did not like it. I think with the steamed egg it is just a polarizing texture and you probably either love it or hate it. My husband ordered the soup of the day (I believe it was asparagus) and just kept repeating how it was VERY asparagus-y but I don't think he meant that as a compliment. I did however try a bit of the pancakes and the salad and I enjoyed those a lot. Maybe we just aren't foodie- enough to appreciate the upscale brunch or maybe we ordered incorrectly. I did appreciate the cute touches like the plates and cutlery. I've eaten inside and outside and both are incredible experiences as the ambience is honestly so inviting, especially with how friendly everyone is. The only issue I've ever had is when we tried to go in on a Friday I believe to go and get dinner. I called before I went to ask how long the walk-in line was and they said it was about an hour. So I walked over about three minutes later to go get on the list and when I got over there, they said they were booked for the night. A little frustrating because I just called a few minutes earlier. So make sure you go early to try and get on the list because you can be left without sometimes, but honestly if you just get there early, you're not going to have a problem. We come in and the exact same hostess jams us in a corner practically on top of the couple next to us, when the huge communal table was empty. Food was tasty, service very good, but the cocktails were expensive and skimpy, with no choices for hard liquor. The icing on the cake was when the waiter came over with our $85 bill and told us that a 20% gratuity was automatically added to the check. Nothing before that moment informed us that this was going to happen. I'm industry, I usually leave 25-30% for a tip. It's not about the money, it's about being sneaky.
