After seeing maven's delicatessen on Instagram, I had to come here. It was a blistering hot day out, and I walked into a pleasantly air-conditioned establishment. Loved the atmosphere and the place was spotless. One of the waitresses seated us asked us if we'd like a drink and pickles with coleslaw. We said yes pickles were great. Coleslaw was very vinegary. Was not a fan of that. We both ordered half a pound of pastrami sandwiches with Swiss cheese and mustard. The pastrami was very lean and sliced very thin and that was good. But I found the pastrami lacking in flavor. I think I was expecting pastrami like they sell at Katz's deli or the old now closed Carnegie's in New York. I really wanted to like Maven's. With all the hype surrounding this place, I expected something special. After several visits, though, I'd describe it with one word: meh. To be clear, the food isn't bad. It's perfectly edible. The problem is that it's also remarkably average, especially considering the prices they're charging. Nothing I've ordered has made me think, "I can't wait to come back for that." It's just...fine. We actually visited during opening weekend, and it was a bit of a mess. They ran out of pastrami, which is a pretty big problem for a deli that was generating so much excitement. I gave them the benefit of the doubt because opening weekends can be chaotic. Since then, we've been back several times hoping things would improve, but the experience has been largely the same. The biggest issue, aside from the food being average, is the service. It's consistently slow. I can understand waiting when a restaurant is packed, but we've experienced long waits even when there were very few customers inside. It feels like everything moves at half speed, and that's been true on multiple visits. I also think they're trying a little too hard to be Katz's Delicatessen. That's an incredibly high bar, and instead of trying to recreate that experience, I'd rather see them focus on becoming the best version of themselves. Right now, it feels like the ambition exceeds the execution. The one thing I will gladly compliment is the bagels. They've been excellent every time we've ordered them, and honestly, they're probably the strongest item on the menu. I do think there's plenty of room for improvement, which is why I'm giving two stars instead of one. There's clearly potential here, and I genuinely hope they find their footing because I'd love to have another great deli in the area. We'll probably give them another chance down the road, and I hope I can come back and update this review with a much more positive experience. read more

Who knew a great Jewish deli in Pawtucket! Came in and had 2 apps, and then I had the Pastrami on sourdough. Apps where great and my sandwich was great. Super cool old school diner inside. I am not in Rhode Island often so when I am, there are a few places that I consider "cannot miss" and Maven's is at the top of the list. It is not merely the wonderful vibe of the old style delicatessen with good decor and great music, it is not even the attentive staff that creates a perfect experience every time. It is not even the food which beyond delicious is attractively presented, and is always the freshest and most wonderful ingredients. It is the feeling that you get when you sit in a restaurant like this and go back in time to the comfort of eating in these places in previous happiest times in your life. It is the warm feeling in your heart and your belly at the same time. I absolutely love coming here. Whether you're craving bagel in a schmear, a corned beef or pastrami sandwich, matzoh, ball, soup, or any of the delicatessen specialties you remember from your childhood, you were going to find them here and enjoy every bite. I do. Today I have the unique meat that they make which is simply beyond comparison. More than a light bite it is packed with corn, beef and pastrami in size and brisket on top. Along with a gravy it is a memorable meal in itself. Just love it love it love it. I could go on all day about the things that I choose to here, but I can sit with certainty that whatever you choose it will be the best meal and service you can get in a pure style delicatessen. We went for breakfast after a gap of about a year. Our server Karin was pleasant and attentive. The neat modern space is attractive and unfussy. My wife had a very good cheese blintz. It's like stepping into one of those classic deli's from the movies. The food is picture perfect and everyone is so friendly and welcoming. Maven's Delicatessen is not only beautiful, immaculately clean and full of a variety of delicious cuts of beef and pastrami - the people here genuinely want to make sure you are happy. My husband and I have been looking for a good Jewish delicatessen since we moved from New Jersey to Massachusetts. There doesn't seem to be many of this type of restaurant. We tried one other in Natick Massachusetts had found it lacking. We went to Rhode Island to try Maven's delicatessen After our order was taken, we were given a complementary bowl of pickles and coleslaw and it was delicious We ordered 1/2 pound corned beef sandwich and 1/2 pound pastrami sandwich. We also ordered potato kugel. The sandwiches were very large and delicious. The sandwiches were made on the best rye bread we have found since we left New Jersey. The service was excellent . This place is tucked away in an unassuming strip mall off East Avenue. When we walked in the "please be seated / wait to be seated" sign was blank so we just kinda stood around checking out all of the great items you can buy to take home. A nice lady greeted us and brought us to a table and gave us menus. We had grabbed canned sodas out of the cooler area, assuming that's how you do it? The pickles and slaw were rocking! My friend and I decided to split an order of potato latkes which come with apple sauce and Sour cream. I tried both ways and preferred the sour cream. I got the pastrami on rye and added ground mustard which was provided along with salt and pepper on each table I could only finish half. My dining mate got the turkey melt (toasted grilled) and loved it. I really want to go back and try the patty melt with Mavens relish. Get a macaroon! Server spilt water on me on accident and made it seem like she was going to give us latkes for free, however she instead charged us for two orders instead. You do get free Cole slaw and pickles. Terrific place. It's not Katz's in NYC, and they don't try to be as it's not intended to be 100% kosher. Local Gentile's need to understand that. We are a world class food community, but many may not understand this type of delicacy. Bagels and Challah are the best in the State. Period. Meats are elegant, and priced as such. This visit was for breakfast. Beef Bacon, Egg and Cheddar on an Egg Bagel. I'll keep this pretty short and sweet- this is a cool spot, they have a neat interior and it can accommodate a ton of people. Old school deli vibes packed into a modern sprawling one. I was a little let down by the food though. The Pastrami Reuben needed roughly 2-4x the dressing and sauerkraut. The meat was fantastic, but it was just a little dry overall because the toppings to meat ratio was way off. This was also $28 for a sandwich, holy crap but I wouldn't pay that again. The latkes were... Flavorless? Zero salt on these things. Nice texture, pleasant to eat with the sour cream and apple sauce but man, it was like I was chewing on white noise. **November 2025: Monday Late Morning Visit** My friend and I came in at 10:55am on Monday, and were greeted with a warm smile and a great booth spot near the middle of the restaurant. Our waitress was very kind and quick with our order. I ordered the following Potato Latkas $6.95 -It kind of tastes like hash browns and the apple sauce and sour cream are add a nice sweetness. Half Soup and Sando $16.95 - Patrons can choose between Corned Beef or Pastrami and I decided to get the later. The sando comes with rye bread and cole slaw, which worked really well with the saltiness of the meat. It was delicious and reminded me of the sandos when I use to live in NYC. The soup base was standard, but the chicken was dry. Nevertheless, it helped warm me up on the cold day. The ambiance has a fun divy, 50s feel to it and service is friendly. Overall, I really enjoyed the restaurant and would definitely be open to coming back. read more

Was pleasantly surprised to see they had a lot of seating now. Love the upscale retro 50's diner decor. Lots of great choices on their menu it was hard to choose. The dumplings were fabulous! Loaded with tender pastrami and cheese. Perfectly cooked. I had the roast beef. The pepper jam was so delicious and there was a lot of meat on the sandwich! It was lean and tender. Really enjoyed it! Brought hubby home a turkey and cheese on rye-he scarfed it down like a starving man....he came up for air once and declared it wicked good. Maven's is a delightful delicatessen in Pawtucket. The menu is versatile, the food is delicious, and the staff members are customer oriented. I've had mixed experiences with Maven's. The food has always been delicious. When I've ordered take out, there has fairly reliably been at least one mistake in the order. The servers are nice, but getting the food takes forever- ordering in or taking out. If you have the time and aren't in a hurry, it's quite tasty. But if you want everything you've ordered, how you've ordered it, relatively quickly, maybe try someplace else. read more

We stopped in after an appointment Pawtucket today based on a family recommendation. We were not disappointed! This place is the real deal! The staff are so friendly and welcoming. The menu covers both breakfast and lunch/dinner. I went with the soup and sandwich option. The chicken noodle soup was incredible, with it was corned beef on rye. My sandwich was delicious. My husband got an everything bagel with lox and cream cheese; he LOVED it! We were given a dish of cole slaw with sour and half-sour pickles; the cole slaw and pickles were just like my father-in-law made. Such a treat!! They also have a take out counter and yes, we brought home bagels and hamentashen cookies...Yum. I was excited to visit this place. J found it via yelp and it had good reviews. When I walked in - it was a great first impression. Very nice place - I was ready for tasting something great. Soup - very positive. (9.5/10) The Matzoh ball soup was on the top of my list. Ryan was my waiter and the soup was great. I was disappointed that there was no rolls or bread with the soup. In Chicago you always get crackers with cheese spread or dinner rolls with your soup. Bummer - but the soup was great. Chicago Hot Dog - sad effort (5/10) Ryan swore it was a real Chicago dog - so I thought ok let's try it. The small wiener was split and fried and placed in a large dry bread roll. The roll was way too big for the small hot dog. The roll was dry, it broke apart and was inedible. The onion, tomatoe and relish were fine, but very little mustard and no sport peppers. Plus there was no poppyseed on the giant roll. Overall - A real miss / not even close French Fries - delicious (9/10) They arrived very hot and fluffy inside. There was a lot of fries in the order and were delicious. No seasoning, but great with a little catsup. Then the big mistake took place. I loved the soup so I asked for a quart to go. Ryan said I had the last bowl and there was no more left. So i asked for the chicken noodle soup. Ryan left and showed up with the quart in a bag and again, no rolls, no bread, or crackers. You spend $14 dollars and no bread with- sad. But Ryan did hear my complaint and offered some bagel chips - thanks Ryan! Chicken soup - (5/10). I came home and watched some tv. I opened my soup and found that there was nothing in it. It was a third filled and I was very dissatisfied. The two pieces of chicle were tasty and were not dried - so that was good but I was just really surprised how the quart was a third filled. Ryan - I plan on coming back. Excellent service, delicious food and plenty of seating to enjoy! We stumbled on this restaurant after biking around Providence and we are so glad we did. They have restaurant seating and a full deli where you can get cold cuts, bagels and desserts as well. Menu is extensive and you can't go wrong with any of the sandwiches, soups or breakfast plates - all portions are generous. After moving away from NYC, I didn't think I would find a quality Jewish deli outside of the city limits, but this is on par with Manhattan. We ended up getting some fresh sliced corn beef and a freshly made loaf of rye bread to make Ruben's at home so we could continue enjoying meals after we left. Finally made it to Mavens for more than just a bagel! I'm picky about my bagels, so I won't rave about them from Mavens unfortunately. However, the rest of the food was delicious! First time visiting Maven's and upon entering the restaurant, I was very impressed. The space was much bigger than I thought it would be, it was light and bright, and very clean. I was with a big party (9 people) and our waitress was very kind, patient, and helpful. She came over with complimentary pickles and coleslaw right away, which I enjoyed. My husband and I split the Potato Latkes and I ordered the 6oz Pastrami Reuben. The Latkes came out first and were served with applesauce and sour cream on the side. I liked these a lot. They were perfectly crisped and seasoned very simply. For the sandwich, I have to admit I was disappointed. I thought the pastrami itself was very good - tender and flavorful. But the Reuben as a whole was lacking in all other aspects. It needed more of the other toppings - cheese, sauerkraut, and sauce! I love a Reuben, and sadly this one let me down. Also, for $20, I believe it should come with a side, but I digress. Some other people in my party were loving their sandwiches, but reviews were mixed overall. Maven's Delicatessan is quite the place. I love when you pull and see the bright, neon sign above the restaurant. The interior is bright and fun with an upscale diner feel. This place does everything really well and I was here for it. After you order your food the server brings out a plate of pickles and coleslaw to your table. It's complimentary, but you can order more for $3.50. The two different kind of pickles are both delicious, although I prefer their half sour to the full sour. The coleslaw is also really good. We ordered some latkes, which were nice and crispy served with apple sauce and sour cream. I also got the Kreplach dumplings filled with corned beef and served with a delicious mustard. I got to try several entrees thanks to my large family. I ordered the Beach Club, which had amazingly fresh Lox on it. The caper and dill sauce made it a delicious and lighter sandwich. My favorite dishes I got to try though were the schnitzel sandwich and the brisket sandwich. Both are out of this world. The Reuben was good, but it could've used more sauerkraut and Russian dressing. My wife ordered a salad plate that had three different proteins on it: egg salad, chicken, and whitefish. The white fish was by far my favorite of the three, but they were all good. For dessert i got the blintz's. These were delicious and I highly recommend them. As a former New Yorker I was over the moon to hear that an NY style Jewish deli was opening here. I've given them 3 or 4 chances since opening with at least a few months in between and I must unfortunately report that the bagels are not good. They're always stale and dry no matter what time of day I've gone. Whoever cracks the code for a really great bagel around here is gonna make a zillion dollars, but that's not here I'm afraid. One of my friends has spoken positively about the other food here so if I get around to trying the pastrami or other staple stuff I'll adjust my score accordingly. The service at the counter was great, but the service at the table was a little weird. I think they were just a little too casual and didn't take our requests seriously. I also didn't like that. First off, I was too hungry to take photos - my bad. I got take out but hoping to dine in one day soon. From what I saw, the interior is reminiscent of every quintessential NYC Jewish diner I've been to and I love it! Their prices are on the higher side for sandwiches but about on par for other delis I've been to in NYC (though you expect higher prices there). A pastrami sandwich is $22.50 but if you want cheese, that's another $2. Matza ball soup is $10, no chicken (I've had this served with and without chicken). The food was great, exactly what I was craving. The sandwich was perfectly toasted, and they have a section for you to put mustard and other condiments on things. Mustard was not an option on the website so I'm glad I saw this little station in the corner because I need mustard on my pastrami. The pastrami itself had great flavor and wasn't overly fatty. I got it with Swiss which gave it that classic taste. The matza ball soup was tasty as well. The meal came to $40 with tax. Now to the few things I was disappointed about. The matza ball soup is packed in a paper container. This was a big problem because the bottom just isn't durable enough to hold hot soup. It bottomed out on me and spilled ALL the broth all over me. That sucked! I had to make my own broth and was able to save the veggies and matza ball. It was good, but not worth $10 for the portion size. I felt the sandwich was overpriced for what you got - it's not a heaping quantity of meat. It's fine, but again, feels overpriced. My biggest disappointment was that the sandwich doesn't come with a pickle! You have to pay for a pickle selection and it was $6. I didn't get it because I didn't like that concept. Pickles have always been a staple that come freely with Jewish deli sandwich anywhere I've been so that was such a bummer. Overall, I'd go back. I love Jewish delis and the food quality is good. Just expect to spend a decent amount on a sandwich and soup. I'm eager to try the desserts and latkes next time. read more

Come for the décor, stay because your food hasn't arrived yet After seeing WhatDidYouEatTodaySir hype up Marvin's Delicatessen, I figured it was worth the ride down from the Boston area. I love a good deli. Unfortunately, this wasn't just disappointing--it was borderline comical. Let's start with the good: the place looks fantastic. Clean, modern, really well done. If Yelp rated based on interior design alone, this place is pushing 5 stars. Now... the rest. First clue something was off--the dining room felt like a walk-in freezer. Not exaggerating: every single table had people eating in their coats. At some point you have to look around and think, "maybe we turn the heat up before someone orders a side of frostbite." Then came the wait. And the wait. And the wait. Close to an hour for deli sandwiches. During that time, I had a clear view of the kitchen, which turned into dinner and a show. Plates were coming back nonstop--wrong bread, wrong orders, total confusion. It was like watching a live-action blooper reel. Eventually, our food arrives... and of course, it's wrong. Back it goes. No big deal--mistakes happen. Round two: soup comes out with vegetables after my wife clearly explained she has an allergy. The waitress caught it (thankfully), and back it goes again. What finally came out can only be described as "chicken soup in spirit." It tasted like someone waved a bouillon cube over hot water and called it a day. No seasoning, no substance, and I'm pretty sure the "chicken" made a brief guest appearance and left. Her sandwich? Also wrong--and somehow included onions and mystery vegetables. So that was basically game over. I ordered the 50/50 (pastrami and corned beef). I say "ordered," but identifying what actually showed up was a bit of a guessing game. The meat was dry--painfully dry. The pastrami (I think?) had the texture of kindling wood and looked like it had been sliced by someone who just discovered what a knife is. Tough, stringy, and completely lacking that juicy, melt-in-your-mouth quality you expect from a deli. The waitress seemed nice enough but didn't really know the menu, and the kitchen was clearly in full chaos mode. One guy--who I assume was the owner or manager--was running around like a man trying to put out ten fires with a squirt gun. At some point, we just started laughing. Not because it was good--because it was so bad it crossed into "you can't make this up" territory. Maybe I'm spoiled coming from the North Shore, where delis take pride in their corned beef and pastrami. But if you're going to call yourself a delicatessen, you've got to at least get the basics right. This place has the look, but none of the execution. I wouldn't go back. I wouldn't recommend it. And next time I'll just stay north of the border where the sandwiches actually show up correctly--and edible. read more

Got myself a Maven's hotdog at their stand by WaterFire! The hotdog itself was delicious, the bread was so good! Definitely not your typical hot dog roll, it was super soft and buttery. The pickle and coleslaw could have been a little more crunchy and more could have been done with the slaw but it all hit the spot for what it was. Service was super quick and nice. Overall not bad, I'd be interested to stop at the deli in person. read more

I ordered the pastrami and Reuben sandwiches with potato latkes, coleslaw, and a Dr. Brown's root beer, and I can confidently say this is the best pastrami sandwich I've ever had. I've been eating pastrami since I was a kid back when it felt like a reward for a good week at school and this hit that exact nostalgic sweet spot. Growing up around Boston, and spending time in Needham, Newton, and Brookline/Brighton, I've had my share of legit delis, and this place holds its own easily. First time here and it was everything I expected and more. I've seen them mention on The Rhode Show and have been meaning to try them out. Parking was easy, I was nicely greeted and received my food in a timely fashion. My sandwich was very delicious and filling. The atmosphere was one which will make you again go back. I drive an hour to get here because there is no other Deli worth going to that is any closer (to South Coast MA). Corned beef and pastrami are great, as well as the pickles. All five of us really liked our lunch. I had a Pastrami Ruben. Even the rye bread was great. We got bagels to go. The taste is right on, but they are a bit too large and dense, which tends to overshadow the lox and cream cheese taste. Service, as always, was good. read more
