This place was great! I visited North Providence to see a friend and she said this was her go-to. I went two days in a row! I got a bacon egg and cheese on a sesame and LOVED how buttery it was. I can't stand a dry BEC. The bagels are less chewy than ones I've had in NY, but I frankly didn't mind much. The next day we split a variety of mini bagels. Ever since I started dating my fiancé I've been going to Bagel Express. Definitely my favorite bagel place around. There's always a few tables of regulars when we go in. It feels like the Cheers of bagels. Everybody knows everybody :) The bagels are made fresh on site, soft in the middle, crispy on the outside and toasted just right. Yet another place I go all the time and haven't reviewed. I am a bagel fiend. I used to have to bring bagels home from jersey to satisfy my need. Prov bagel opened and I now split my bagel needs between them and bagel express. I assume they make them themselves because they are so very fresh. And huge ! They have the usual kinds , everything , sesame , poppy , sunflower , spinach etc. The cream cheese is very flavorful and the garden veggies amazing. I'm usually there for a bagel and cream cheese but they have sandwich's that I'm sure are delicious. The parking lot is small but people aren't spending hours there so I haven't had an issue with parking. The staff are super sweet and always have a smile. They can get really busy , but they acknowledge you and let you know they will be with you. I usually make my own coffee since I'm super fussy about what goes in it , but I have had theirs a few times and they have a lot Of diff flavor options. The prices are reasonable. , I usually get a dozen bagels to go and one for there and it is about 17$. Highly recommend this shop. Support your locals and spend your money here. read more

This may be my favorite bagel shop on the entire east coast. The bagels are made in-house. The owners are incredibly sweet and have been running this small independent local shop for decades. I've been coming here since I was a kid. The ambiance is no-frills, feels very much like a neighborhood spot. All their bagels are made in-house. The texture is fluffy on the inside, crisp on the outside. Egg & cheese sandwiches are a must-order, they crack and grill the eggs right on site. No frozen egg to be found! The bagels are served so hot they're steaming (as bagels should be served). Notable shoutout to their flavored iced coffees which have the flavor brewed right in, no syrups added. When I'm in the mood for bagels, this is my go to place. Bagels are huge and generous on the toppings, covering bottom as well as the top. I give this place 4 stars and not 5, because I only get a half dozen for home. Prices are very reasonable, 7$ for a half dozen. I've never had the sandwiches or other fillings, but I see the regulars here all the time so assume everything is delicious. I based my 4 stars on the excellent service; the staff are pleasant, acknowledging that you're there when they are busy. Parking might seem tight, but I've never had a problem. There is a huge Parking lot in the back that is not visible from the street side. They also carry bread, rolls, and some pastries. Struggling to decide between a 3 and 4. I'd say 3.5. I got an everything bagel at 10 am and it was pretty good and fresh. Not the best (judging by NJ / NYC standards), but it's better than average for New England standards. The woman serving me was sweet. Their salads are good but I have literally never experienced horrible customer service like this anywhere else. Every time I call to order I get attitude from the person answering the phone if they even answer at all. I stopped going for like 6 months because I was tired of them never answering the phone and then decided to give it one more try and got treated like an absolute idiot for asking if they still had salads when they used to sell out of them almost every day which is why I started calling ahead in the first place. What's even worse is if you are in there on a busy day you will likely even watch them ignore the phone while it's ringing or decline the call altogether. The coffee is fresh and good, the staff are always friendly and helpful. Just this morning the owners son was out serving and was pleasant and striking up conversations. They have their fair share of regulars who are more than willing and happy to engage in a conversation with you. I have to say that they offer a pretty decent bagel for North Providence. I got their breakfast sandwich. They confessed that their egg and bacon were microwaved and not grilled - not a good start. I got their everything bagel to feel my craving I had for bagels. Their sandwich required a decent dose of salt and pepper. The egg didn't have the characteristics of being microwaved - good job, the bacon did--you should never microwave bacon. Their bagel had a fair consistency. I came here in hopes of finding a Taylor Ham (pork roll) sandwich. I was just excited after seeing the Yelp reviews and figured, "you can't mess up an egg sandwich". Wrong. Well I saw they had a special called "New Jersey" which I thought would be a no brainier. It said Taylor Ham sandwich. I said I'll take that, and she explained that they didn't have a grill and that the Taylor ham was mixed in an omelette with cheese. I figured I may as well give it a try on an everything bagel. So the bagel itself wasn't bad and had a pretty decent texture. But the flavor wasn't anything pronounced. Now for the inside of the sandwich. The egg was absolutely flavorless and had the most bizarre texture. It tasted as if it was microwaved egg. The Taylor pork wasn't "in" an omelette as they said. It was one small piece that hadn't been seared or anything and tasted as if it was just cut and placed between the egg and a slice of bland rubbery cheese. It was the worst egg sandwich I have ever had and I think a processed dunkin donuts sandwich would taste better and I despise those as well. I don't understand the hype surrounding this place. If you aren't going to execute something well, then do not even offer it on your menu. I won't be visiting here again. read more

The hubby and I use to live in West Warwick and we had found the Bagel Factory, which made fresh bagels and delicious breakfast sandwiches. I believe the place is no longer there, and that was sad, but one random day, the hubby went out for something and came back with breakfast sandwiches from Bagel Express, and I realized, we have a new fresh bagel spot! I've been here twice and both times I was talked down to. They basically look at you like you're crazy when you ask a question and expect you to know the menu like the back of your hand. Always ate bagels from here when I was a kid, so I went into the store myself for the first time last year. What a mistake. All I bought was one bagel but the lady was acting like I was seriously bothering her. Gave me and attitude when she actually had to ASK me whether or not I wanted it toasted (something along the lines of "Well, how I am supposed to know if you want it toasted?!") Sorry? Would've walked out if I hadn't already paid for my bagel... On the bright side, the food is good and not overpriced...the employees and most of the people eating there seem to be friendly and from what I can see from the other reviews maybe you have to be a regular to get treated politely? Love this place. I'm sure most people don't know about it, and "Bagel Express" doesn't exactly sound very appetizing, but it's really a hidden gem and very "Mom & Pop" even though it doesn't sound like it. The egg & cheese / sausage / bacon etc. are made on the spot, not like gross Dunkin Donuts, and are taaaaaaaasty. The cream cheese's are all made there are are really good, my favorite is the chive. The bagels are all really yummy and fresh, I've never tried a bad one. Really though, one morning after a heavy night of drinking and with 7 people sleeping on my floors and couches, I went out to this place and brought home everyone egg and cheese sandwiches and cream cheese and bagels that they thought they were getting from Dunkins, but I decided to improvise. Everyone couldn't stop saying over and over how yummy it was. The also serve sandwiches with Boars Head meats but I've never had the delight of being there for lunch. This has become my favorite bagel spot in Rhode Island. I go just about every Sunday morning before football starts. The bagels are absolutely delicious - according to the owner they aren't baked, but rather steamed so they get nice and fluffy. The flavored cream cheeses are made in-house, and often right when you order. The chive is my favorite, but the veggie is also delicious. I keep saying I'm gonna venture out and order a sandwich one of these days, but I only get here once a week and am always nervous to give up my bagel and cream cheese deliciousness. The flavored coffees are also yummy, and they will brew any flavor beans that they have for you if a pot isn't already made. Talk about fresh! Be sure to try the Snickerdoodle, or my favorite - Almond Joy. I do recommend getting there as early as possible as your choices dwindle as the day goes on. I was oddly there at 6:30am one Sunday (yes, still awake from the night before...but sober! Don't worry!) and had my choice of about a dozen different bagel flavors. Personal faves include onion and spinach. I can see why other reviewers have complained about the customer service, but I have never experienced a problem. If you get there early enough the male owner is usually there and he is sweet as pie. Anecdote about said sweetness: I went with a friend who had been asking for their strawberry cream cheese every week for about a month, and they never had it. When he served us on this early morning, he promised that if he didn't have it the next week, our bagels were free. Best bagels in RI. Everything made on site, nothing is pre frozen. Besides the best bagels, they also have the best coffee. Get the "Tank" ice coffee!
