It's RUDYS BBQ!!!!! If you have not been here... GOOOO!!!! The atmosphere is amazing old school bbq joint filled with smell of smoking meats over oak wood. I have tried tons of bbq since liking in Texas and this is consistently the best!! The staff are always outgoing, friendly and ready to serve! The food, wow!!! Absolutely delicious bbq!! The brisket is always juicy and easy cuts with a fork. The sauce is amazingly delicious. Full of peppery goodness that creates just a touch of heat. The also have a "Not so hot" sauce with almost no pepper which is the equivalent of Bill Millers or Smokey Moe's. So why 4 stars?? The price :( !hen you first see the prices, it doesn't look to bad for brisket and turkey, about 9.00 per pound... NOPE 9.00 per HALF pound :( Sooooooooo good but with a drink, sides etc it's about 20-25 a person read more

Rudy's is a San Antonio fixture and for those newly arrived go and enjoy. There is going to be arguments about where the best BBQ is in Texas but if you want good BBQ, good service, and a friendly place to go, well you go to Rudy's. Rudy's came through for me very recently when I catered my wife's retirement luncheon. Good BBQ with close friends and family, how can you go wrong? read more

Great brisket especially their marbled brisket. I also love their peach cobbler. Their sausage is good. Authentic Texas brisket!

I'll just say... We do it better in the DFW. When I asked for the brisket sandwich they said they didn't do this sandwich when I asked for a baked potato and they said they didn't do the baked potato and then when I asked for a rice crispy treat they simply did not have a rice crispy treat.... What the hell is going on here?? I will say that the brisket is up to par.. San Antonio you guys are missing out... read more

Rudy's is always great. Their Turkey is very flavorful and juicy and popular. I wanted a pound of it but they only had half a pound left. I was very disappointed, but they substituted it with another meat of choice at no charge. Always appreciate the military discount. The take out area has been rearranged to make it safer for all involved. read more

Ok Rudys is my favorite spot for BBQ in San Antonio because everytime I go they are consistent on the quality. The B

They suck and they don't have breakfast. Here's the thing with Rudy, if you're in a bind for barbecue and you can't find nothing else open then this is your go to spot. As far as their sides, all are good. There's sweet tea is very good as is the cobbler. The barbecue is just meh. Be prepared this barbecue isn't cheap either, everything is Sold à la cart and then mean you can be very tricky you have to pay attention to the prices and do you realize that that brisket is for a half a pound of meat? pay particular attention to how much you're getting for the price you are paying. Skinner only about $15-$20 a person read more

Came to Rudys as it was recommended by a few people we asked about looking for a good BBQ place. My wife and I ordered brisket, chopped, creamed corn, cole slaw and potato salad. With the hype a few locals gave us, we had high hopes. The look of the place was country and local, which we really liked. As for the food, the sides were great. Creamed corn was good and creamy, potato salad had the right amount of everything in it, and even the cole slaw was yummy. However the brisket we felt was very lacking. Not the juicy delicious full of flavor brisket Ive had at many other places. The chopped meat wasnt bad. I was expecting more of big chucks of meat cut up in sauce, but it was more of scraps thrown in a blender and given a quick mix. It would be good thrown into a sandwich or a hoagie. The sauce was also ok. Nothing mind-blowing or special. Also, dont buy bottled drinks like we did. We had no idea there were fountain drinks until we came into the eating area and sat down. Its worth giving it another shot to try some of the different meats. read more

Everything was good but this brisket, it was the worst I ever had. The turkey is always great, pulled pork. But at an average of $60 a sale- they should have a smoked brisket, and not a microwaved one. It was totally grey, they could barely cut it, and it wasn't even smoked. Very disappointed in Rudy's. They need to train up in Austin where the Hand washing machine is located.... read more

I really like Rudy's but this location tastes different compared to others. Brisket was dry and the cream corn wasn't like others. The place is very clean! And staff is nice and helpful. I have been coming to Rudys for many years! They have them all over Texas. I also order them a lot when I used to live in Houston. I grew up in Texas so I have tried so many amazing bbq spots all around Texas! I have been to bbq spots that are named as the Travel Channels top bbq spots in the world but I don't think they lived up to their name. I came into town to visit my mother for her birthday and stopped by here to pick up some bbq take out. They even have a special yelp deal where you can take $10 off next visit once you check in on yelp! definitely worth it in my opinion! I bought almost $50 worth of food and it cost only $40. There was no line when I was there and service was pretty quick and efficient. Rudy has hands down the best moist brisket I have ever had! plus their creamed corn tastes so blissful! Their bbq sauce has a special spicy kick to it which makes me mouth so happy and wanting more! The ribs were pretty tasty, sausages were delish, baked chicken was amazing and their others sides were yummy too! Everything is order by the pound here so there isn't any sort of plate meals. Its a good spot to go with the family or with some friends. Overall this is one of my favorite bbq spots ever! You have to come try this place out! read more

Super fast service every time I stop by and the food is always great and the people are always friendly. It's an easy pick for a quick lunch

I know, I know. Everytime you bring someone in town and you want them to try something BBQ "ing" you might think of Rudy's. I know that you want them to taste that moist brisket, sausage, beans, chicken, and the delicious cream corn among other items on the menu. Don't forget the peach cobbler. We got there with our guest that came right from the airport, and boy, she was hungry as a wolf. Anyhow... we proceeded to order our sides, and when we got to the meats they were out of chicken, pork and moist brisket. I understand that a restaurant closing at 10pm must keep all the meats fresh and not refrigerated from the day before. It would be a great idea to post the item(s) that are not available at the entrance of the restaurant, that way we can take our guest somewhere else or plan accordingly, etc etc, you know what I mean. The butcher/cashier never apologized for not having that many items available at 7pm. I wonder if they will still be open at 9pm even if they don't have anything to sell. They promise us a chicken but they said 20 min. Which means they will put it on the grill immediately. This place does has great flavors but they have so many locations that the quality has declined. Is not what it used to be decades ago. So plan accordingly, ask which items they have available before even ordering. read more

Texas style BBQ! As recommended by our SA Food Tour guide we found this Rudy's location on our way home from San Antonio . It is some 18 miles North heading to Austin in the town of Selma. Immediately you will spot their huge sign off the I-35 highway. Once you get there the slogan underneath the restaurant name says "The Worst Bar-B-Q in Texas." So lets check it out and see! To place a food order do not enter the air conditioned room. That is the entrance to the country store and huge indoor seating. Instead enter another section where a staff member will assist you and take your order down on paper. You will then hand this to the counter where they will complete your order. The staff was very helpful and friendly as they assisted us getting our order together... can you tell that this is our first time here. LoL We decided on half a pound of brisket ($17.30/lb) and a pint of cream corn ($6.35). They also gave us slices of bread in case we want to make a sandwich out of our meat. They cook the meat in pits that are 100% wood fired with oak and seasoned with Rudy's rub. The brisket was so tasty and delicious, the meat very tender but in case you need more flavor apply some of their famous Rudy's 'sause'. The cream corn was yummy! Can't get enough of it. We ate our lunch at their picnic benches under the covered roof. This place is great for big groups! Rudy's menu is simple: meat choices include brisket, turkey, chopped beef, pork or baby back ribs, chicken and sausage links. Sides are potato salad, Rudy's beans, cream corn and cole slaw. You want dessert? Peach cobbler is it. Great foodie experience. I want more! Review #0714 read more

The Worst BBQ in Texas! This is the place where I like to get sauced. BBQ Sauced! Rudy's BBQ is a Texas original. It started on the other side of San Antonio out in Leon Springs as a BBQ spot in a gas station. The BBQ here is legendary. They smoke their stuff all day on the giant pits that you can see when you go inside. On the outdoor patio, you can see where they store the wood (mesquite, I think) and throw it through a hole in the wall into the pits. Just looking at those pits, and how encrusted with flavor and smoke they are, you know they're doing something right. It used to be that they'd leave the BBQ sauce bottles out on the table. You could sit there and just go to town on their sauce, a spicy tomato based sauce. I've purchased their rubs before, which is a dry rub- pretty spicy. It's available in the gas station, as is their sauces- which includes a spicy and a not-so-hot. I always go for their brisket. Other Rudy's I've been to offer a choice between the lean and moist brisket. I didn't see that as an option here. I guess it's all 'cutter's choice.' They also used to throw in a half loaf of Butterkrust Bread and pickles and onions, but now you gotta coax it out of the servers. Oh yea- I can't review Rudy's without mentioning the creamed corn. Best in Texas. It's amazing. Get a quart. There are signs all over this place reminding you that the employees aren't there to clean up after you, and that yo mamma ain't there, so bus your own table. This place isn't fancy. read more

3.8 stars for BBQ. 10 stars for the service. Being my first time in Texas, Big Daddy suggested I come here for "real BBQ." Of course I didn't listen and went to B&D Icehouse based on a recommendation from a stranger. Sidenote: B&D's bbq was just meh- which left me uneasy. So I had to give Rudy's a chance. Big regret I didn't go to Rudy's first. Their BBQ has a strong peppercorn flavor. While their ribs didn't fall off the bone or melt in my mouth, it was tender and flavorful. What I loved most was the staff's hospitality. Monique who is a sweetheart made me sample their their famous cream corn, baked beans, jalapeño, potato salad, turkey, pork ribs, baby back ribs, lean brisket and my favorite of all "moist brisket." Leo and Tom who works at their store made me feel right at home. They kept me company and we talked like we were old friends. Real southern comfort food and hospitality. Leo even snuck me a piece of their peach cobbler. (Ssh.. don't tell Larry!!) Listen, don't be like me. Give them a chance. You won't regret it. read more

Leaving them at 3 Stars. This is a decent Rudy's location. The one up the road in New Braunfels is awesome !!! It's worth the extra 15 - 20 minute drive. The brisket at this location is mediocre at best, and their sausage is somewhat alright. The brisket here is almost always dry and blah. Even their sauce on the tables, which I generally love, doesn't taste like the one in Round Rock which is "THE BEST" Rudy's I've eaten at in Texas, and believe me, I've been to many of their locations here in Texas. You may not agree with me, but I know my BBQ, and I'm the biggest promoter of Rudy's, and finally, I am the Yelp Duke for Rudy's. read more

Absolutely the worst Rudy's I have ever eaten spanning 20+ years. They did not have chicken, pork ribs, or jalapeño sausage. Ordered the baby back ribs instead and all you could taste was seasoning and smoke as they had been cooked way too long. Also got brisket and that was the driest and no flavor brisket ever. The beans were lukewarm at best and also had no flavor. Cream corn was on point though. Very sad day when one of the sides and the pickled jalapeños was the best part of the meal. read more

By far the worst Rudy's we've ever been to. The people were very nice but the food was horrible, and seriously tasted like it was leftover from the entire week. The sides were disgusting. The Turkey and Brisket were dry, the sausage was half way better. Sadly the tea was old too. I hope that it gets better once the construction on 35 is no longer an issue, but I will not be stopping at this one anytime soon. read more

I would've given 5 stars but the fountain drinks didn't offer sprite, 7up or Sierra Mist. Anyway, We love Rudy's. Simple BBQ. We always get the corn, potato salad, beans, chicken, turkey & brisket. However today at the time we visited, they were temporarily out of brisket. This was the 1st time we tried the ice cream. Go and get the pecan praline. They give you very large scoops so I shared mine. My daughter got butter pecan and it was just as good. read more

What happened to Rudy's? No pork ribs now , in Selma I-35 anyway. Prices way up. Creamed corn still good, will that be the next to go? They ration out there barbecue sauce in little tiny paper cups. Very sad, but we will not be going back there any longer. Others must feel the same way as where they always had a line of maybe 10 people, only one couple was in the line with us, and very few later. read more

Rudy's BBQ is the greatest bang-for-the-buck BBQ in Texas. However, this location isn't one of the good ones. It might be one of the first locations, however, the decor/service and options here aren't like in others I've visited over the years. I was a little disappointed - not in Rudy's BBQ, just this location, employees here not doing good work. The service was slow. They were out of cole slaw (odd). They didn't have moist brisket (bizarre) and they took forever to get the line going. read more

Before I get judged by the local fans I want to say that Rudy's is one of my favorite barbecue places I've always stop at Rudy's for either lunch or dinner and their barbecue is unmatched any barbecue I've ever had but tonight is barbecue was the worst I ever had I told a gentleman do not serve me dry burned reheated barbecue he said he would not when I got back and we dug into it and it was absolutely terrible you could taste the reheated smoke and the dryness of the meat it was very disappointing. It's like they just didn't care about what Brand they represent. I will never return to this Rudy's I am so frustrated about this as I was looking forward to it all day. Came here with my kids and husband on a Saturday night for dinner. Place was not too packed which was good. We ordered the sweet corn, Cole slaw and peach cobbler. The Cole slaw and sweet corn were both cooked perfectly! Little sweet, but savory! The beef brisket was moist and very flavorful. The baby back robe (ordered a pound for my daughter and I and it was WELL enough for us) was amazing! Especially with some of the Rudy's bar-b-q sauce. The ribs were tasty and cooked perfectly. My son had the sausage which I also tried. That sausage was probably one of the best ones I have ever had. Warm, moist and perfectly cooked. They have lots of drinks to choose from. It's a little expensive for a BBQ joint but I have to say, it was very worth it. We spent about $70 for all 4 of us. Definitely a place you need to go to if you are in San Antonio! read more

Staff is very friendly and welcoming. Ordered 1lb of brisket with sides. Sides were very good. Reason for the 2 stars is the meat quality. Brisket was very very tough. Rudy's is by far one of the best bbq's in Texas! We ate dang good when we come here. I personally get the moist brisket because the fat of the brisket is THE BEST! The cream of corn is a must. A single serving is not enough. You definitely need to get the next size up. My parents enjoy getting the pork ribs and the sausage links are just as good. If you are ever in the area, then YOU MUST STOP BY! I always leave happy and satisfied, plus the service is always southern hospitality. This is pretty good BBQ. I expected more. Old time cafeteria seating inside with park benches outside. Line up and order. They use butcher paper and paper food holders, and you take your stuff in a kind of pop container. They really push the cream corn, and I was told how awesome it was beforehand also. I tasted it, and it's not so much creamed corn as corn in cream. It tasted sweet, I'm guessing the special recipe is just condensed milk and whole corn It's ok, but I'm lactose intolerant, soo... Got potato salad. It was also, just ok. 1/2 chicken... was good, not too smoky tasting. Brisket was good. Smoked sausage was also ok. I really liked their sauce, but the pourer was clogged and I had to clean it and the bottle was clogged too. It's a family place so naturally one family let their 4 boys yell and run all over the place and really messed up dinner for everyone. It's low maintenance business. Was just ok. My first Texas BBQ. Sad. read more

Lifelong Rudy's goer here. This is the first time I'm throwing out my leftovers on the way out :( The brisket was dryer than dry with a big ol fat cap on one side, even though I asked for moist. The chopped has a few chunks of gristle that I couldn't even swallow, had to spit something out of my sandwich. No onions, no jalapeños, no Mayo. Just not the experience I'm used to! Maybe a bad day, or maybe it's location dependent. read more

This is not what I expect when I go to Rudy's. The brisket and ribs were so dry and tasteless I smothered them with sauce. Bill Miller's would have been a better choice. Me and my wife went there for lunch about a week ago. Ordered the usual brisket, sausage, ribs, and sides including creamed corn. We haven't eaten there in awhile and we were definitely disappointed. The brisket was tough, the sausage was over cooked and the sides were...meh. Oh, they didn't have any straws for the drinks, which was weird.
