Cook Shack's chicken is amazing for the price! The fried batter is always perfect, the chicken stays juicy, and the Dragon Fries come out crispy without being overcooked. Their $20 family deal for 20-piece chicken strips easily feeds my family of four, and we always have leftovers because the strips are so big and juicy. Definitely worth trying!
Quick service with tasty food, then chicken is on the thin side but a good dry spicy sandwich. Coleslaw wasn't really worth it but the sauce was yummy. Mac and cheese wasn't a hit for my baby and decent to me. I would for sure go back to give a second try. The inside is pretty big with a bar and outdoor seating area as well. Nice a clean and not too busy.
I will give the restaurant a break for how well the decor of the place is. The service wasn't that great and while I reiterated my order they were very blunt and I still didn't receive exactly what I wanted. As for the food I have had better chicken from a gas station. While it was very crispy and smelled delicious it lacked flavor. I also was supposed to receive "dragon" fries but only received regular fries.
Absolutely terrible. My god I have never been so disappointed in my life. I'm almost confused as if someone was trying to pull some kind of joke on me giving me a literal dot of sauce and 1 and a half bites of coleslaw. Are they running a restaurant or a circus? I couldn't tell you! And if you think that's bad the "Mac and cheese" ( if you wanna call it that) was like eating a bottle of play dough. I'm honestly not sure if that's what I received or not but whatever it was seriously was bland and chewy almost like silly putty . I couldn't eat more then 2 bites. I'd say at least it was worth the price but no $10 is too much for this crap. The chicken was also dry, but at least had a decent crunch when it hit the trash can. Where it belonged. So come here if you like to throw away your money and question if what you're eating is edible.
First Time Visit - Great Food & Friendly Service! Stopped by today for lunch with my dad -- we wanted to try something new, and we're so glad we did! From the moment we walked in, the staff greeted us with genuine warmth. We mentioned it was our first visit, and a friendly gentleman took the time to explain the menu and how everything works, which was really helpful. The young lady at the register was also incredibly welcoming. I ordered the chicken tenders and fries, plain (naked), and wow -- the tenders were perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The fries were golden, crisp, and seasoned just right. It's honestly the best crispy chicken I've had in a long time! My dad went with the rib sandwich at medium heat. He really enjoyed it and mentioned he'd like to try it without the bread next time to focus more on the meat. To top it all off, we were treated to complimentary ice cream sandwich bites toward the end of our meal -- one with a butterscotch oatmeal cookie and the other a classic chocolate chip. Both were absolutely delicious! If you're craving crispy chicken and a friendly, welcoming atmosphere, definitely give this place a try. We'll definitely be back!
Yummy place. But, they weren't so welcoming. Y'all know when I try a place for the first time I want them to be just as excited as I am. The monotone, "what can I get you?" kills me every time. Also, there. was. a. hair. on. my. fry. Granted I was done eating, but ew. Despite the extra ingredients, the fries were hot & fresh.
I was craving the shack salad and I am so happy I was able to quench that desire. It was so good!!! So fresh, so tasty, so flavorful! My hubs devoured his hog heaven which he was craving. The kids gobbled up their chicken. The staff is always so happy and helpful. The food is always so fast. And a great ambiance with something interesting on the TV's. One of our favorite spots in town for a good meal.
It's been a long time since I've been here and I noticed a few new items on the menu. But I came for the ribs. :) I walked in and the atmosphere is lively with patrons eating their delicious food. I took a seat near the door. I really wanted to try their boujee margarita. Definitely maybe next time! When I sat down, the song Tired of Waiting for you came on. Tee hee hee. Great timing because even though I just came in, I was already tired of waiting for those ribs. Lol. I'm sure the wait won't be extremely long. The crowd it's pretty low for this time of the day and I was able to come in, order and sit right away. I ordered the half rack of ribs and a house salad with blue cheese. My table is nice and clean and my food is here! It looks delicious and I'm already sure it is! Bon eating!

Picked up a quick dinner before my night class, it was ready when I arrived and ate in car. Hit the spot and everything was cooked fresh and a happy accident that I ordered the tenders HOT instead of mild. Enjoyed it though especially with the honey mustard!

Restaurant is warm AC didn't seem to work well. The young man kept the tables clean and delivered the food constantly. Would we go back?? Yeah probably so.
We were in the area and were in the mood for some chicken and stumbled upon this roadhouse looking place. Parking was easy to find since it's in a shopping center and the business was easy to find since it was in the corner. Once we arrived everyone was in line and everything looked great on the menu. The business had a southern country look to it and the staff had positive energy and very helpful with the menu. At the time they were out if baby back ribs, and the kale salad. So we decided to order chicken sandwiches. Once we received our order number we grabbed our drinks and sat down. We then waited and waited and started to notice that the people who ordered behind us had received their order before us. We then asked one of the staff about our order, and they apologized and quickly retrieved our order. The manager then came to us and apologized and gave us a complimentary meal for the trouble. Once the food arrived, it was delicious. Although it did take some time to get the food, the taste was decent and worth the wait.

The menu is fairly simple, we got the chicken and waffles for me and the nuggets and waffle fries for my husband. Didn't regret a thing, and the portions were generous so we took home a tender and waffle piece for later (which heated up well, I might add). Front of house looks great, very inviting with warm tones, cozy booths, and a bar. The bathroom is the sole reason for the loss of a star, it was really, really gross. They need to gut it and redo it pronto! I would avoid using the restroom at the Cookshack if you can at all help it. Really a bummer since everything else is so nice!

Not the best tenders, but the service was excellent, there is plenty of room to accommodate large groups and 20 tenders with for $19.99 is a good deal. They have various tasty sauces to deep your tenders and even your fries if you choose to. read more
I pass by here all the time and never paid any mind to it. I was actually on the way to Ten Second Rice Noodle nearby and decided to try it out. The fried chicken tender is actually very crispy! There were some pieces that didn't adhere to the tender, but still remained crispy. The fries had a great crisp to them. I got the texas hot spice level on the side just in case it was hotter than I'd like, but it was actually pretty nice. Service is good, with the person that took my order coming by with food and to clear the plate when done. The look of the place is rustic. Country music playing in the background and 4 TVs in total, but unfortunately playing all the same show. Good food, soul-ish more than it is BBQ, but delicious. Give it a go! read more
I loved it here! Location: very spacious and lots of parking. Good music and we could hear each other speak in normal voices! Service: you order and pay at the counter. Person was able to make good recommendations and walk me through the process as it's my first time. Food: sooooooo good! The chicken tenders were crunchy and flavorful yet super moist on the inside. I ordered the sleezy chicken which is tenders with Mac and cheese and coleslaw. Really good, I'd probably order it with the coleslaw and Mac cheese on the side next time. They have burgers too, which is in my to order next list. I'll be back! read more

First time I tried this place was in Austin. I am sooooo glad we have one locally now! Very lowkey and simple fast service. So much flavor. The service is quick. It's a larger venue so you can have a pretty decent party after if you want...they have large tables. Chicken and waffles if on point! I have also had their salads...so good! read more

Never disappointed when I come to Cookshack! Customer service is always great (super important!) and the food portions leave me unable to finish it all in one sitting. The tacos are probably my favorite thing to order and I appreciate that I can alter them to my liking depending on the sauce I add on the chicken. I've never had the regular fries because the sweet potato fries do the trick every single time. They're waffle fries and cooked perfectly. The shack bites are also really good! Again, I've never dined in, but everyone is always super kind and attentive when I come in to pick up my food. Definitely recommend Cookshack to those looking for a delicious and affordable meal. read more

Wow! Talk about flavor! Okay, so the beer battered chicken tenders (I got the lunch 2 piece tenders, fries, and drink for 10 bicks) were so very tastful and tender! The crunch when you took that bite...oh, slap your momma good!! The person who took our order was so very good at explaining every little detail on our first visit, definitely not our last visit. I told my husband I was ready to come back for dinner already. We just might do it! It feels very homey here. Very clean! The bench seat was padded in the boot. The papertowels on the table give that homey feeling. There is a small bar I did see there, but I believe it will be more active at dinner time. We really enjoyed the lunch, and my husband had the chicken tacos. Tacos were 2 with a flour tortilla, chicken strip, cole slaw, and pickles with their special sauce on the side. The 2 tenders were so big in my lunch portion that I could only eat 3/4 of a tender! It was so filling! We are bringing the kids back tonight for supper! read more

Went in as it was near my hotel and had never been and like chicken - so there. I ordered the Sleezy Chicken not sure what to expect - the name intrigued me. It was pretty dang good. Fries chicken pieces on top of some coleslaw and all that sitting on a bed of some good Mac N Cheese. As for heat level of the Shack sauce, I stayed at a medium not knowing their heat levels and could have went up a notch. Absolutely really good. Probably really unhealthy. Had a draft beer to go along and I think it was called Cockadoodle Brew. It worked. I saw a lady with a full rack of ribs and she was putting them down - they looked good. Worth a try next time. read more
I cannot wait to come back. On this visit we had two Hog Heavens, one Shack Rocks, and one Sangria Swirl. Total meal five stars! Cashier 2c is a people person who makes your visit special. Wish their drink machine had been working I prefer the drink mixed and not on the rocks. Drinks were not as potent and the food not piled high as the last visit. Guess costs are being watched. I will give them another try maybe that day was a bit off. read more
A very great addition to the restaurant choices in the Forum. Service was friendly and fast. I got the chicken sandwich with medium spice and regular fries. The chicken had a great flavor, juicy, and a little crispy. Looking forward to coming back and trying their ribs. read more

Been in a couple times now and really enjoy it. The hot chicken sandwich is easily one of the best I've ever had in SATX. I wish they would open more locations around town! But honestly I am happy to make the drive for this place. I also really love their cole slaw and their mac and cheese is to die for. My only complaint is we got their chicken bites for our toddler and the quality was awful. They were very heavily breaded and the quality of chicken of many of the bites was very tough to the point they weren't edible. I would stick to the strips or the sandwiches. read more
I ate at The Cookshack on a Friday afternoon and ordered the 5-Piece Tenders. They are delicious but - note to self, if you order the 5-Piece, you better be hungry!! These tenders are huge, not your wimpy sized nuggets you get from somewhere else. You can also select the "Heat Range" for your spiciness. I order medium and these Tenders had just the right amount of heat without setting my mouth on fire. The fries were also delicious, lightly seasoned and firm. Perhaps next time I'll ask if they can double down the fries to make them crispy. There's seating both inside and outside under a covered patio with large fans. The staff is great with every effort to ensure your satisfaction with your meal. The service was quick and my order was brought within 5-minutes. If you haven't been to Cookshack in a while, give it another try. Enjoy a beer, some great food and I'm certain you'll forget about those tiny nuggets in no time. Friendly service, welcoming ambiance, delicious food... these are a few reasons I keep heading to The Cookshack. We're always greeted with an enthusiastic welcome, and the staff is eager to help you choose your heat level... choose wisely. The chicken sandwich is phenomenal with just enough tang in the slaw to offset the spicy sauce. The liquor license was a pleasant surprise, and the beer selection is well curated. Cheers! read more

Attention management. The woman's bathroom needs to be a heavy duty cleaning. The walls a gross the floor is sticky. My husband said the mans bathroom was good. The food is good. We always get the chicken tenders, with a salad and sweet potato fries. We have gotten the ribs before and they were good not great but good. We have been here a few times and will come back. Please clean the woman's bathroom. read more

Good food and nice location. I ordered the family pack with a full rack of ribs and 6 tenders, this order comes with 4 side options and I highly suggest getting the sweet potato fries. The mac and cheese was slightly sweet which was different but still delicious. You have plenty of sauce options to choose from. My only nitpick is that I didn't receive my Mac and cheese until I had to go up and request it when it wasn't on the tray. The silverware also had some residue of sorts on it when I sat down. These issues were fixed quite quickly when we talked to a staff member. I will definitely be returning here again for the ribs alone! read more

This is an order/pay at the counter type restaurant. Staff delivers food. I gotta say they did get my son's order wrong...twice...yikes. But there are good things about this review! I guess I should say the server who delivered the food was very sweet and apologetic. The chicken sandwich was really pretty good. The breading is interesting, it's more like a fish and chips batter than a traditional fried chicken batter you are probably thinking of. It was very light and crispy as well. The chicken was tender and moist. No dry chickens here! The other interesting thing is the 'hot', it's almost like dry a spice rub but not. This chicken sandwich is definitely not saucy like I expected, but it was very tasty. If you're shopping at the forum and could use some chicken in your life definitely check this place out! Oh! And they have a full bar...in case the shopping has done you in. read more

You can't go wrong with the food at The Cookshack. I had the mild tenders which had a delicious, crispy coating. The white meat was well cooked and not dry although I would have preferred dark meat or bone-in chicken. The sides were also great. Sweet potato fries were very flavorful. The Mac and cheese was unusually tasty. It was more like an Italian pasta and had a smooth, Alfredo type taste. I only had a few bites of kale salad but it had a unique flavor which included bits of mint. I packed it up to enjoy later. There were just two downsides for me. The first were the restrooms. I'm not sure if the metallic stalls were designed to look rusty and dirty to go with the "cookshack" theme or the result of poor cleaning. But they definitely need an overhaul. The restroom alone took a star off my review. And if the food weren't so good, I would have taken off another. My other pet peeve is leaving a tip when going through a line to order, then after the food is delivered, you don't see the server again. So you might want to temper your tip until you see if it serves "to insure prompt" service. Otherwise you will enjoy The Cookshack. read more
