Last month I called 4 days in a row to order a cheese burger and was told they had no buns. Why can't you walk across the street to Albertsons and buy buns. I just called and asked if they had cheese burgers and was told they had no meat. If you don't want to sell burgers take them off your menu. I eat there weekly and always happy. Explained to the employee what had occurred and just got attitude. "It wasn't his fault". Take a second and let the person on hold know you will be with them in a few more minutes. We just received our food through Grubhub. The Rudy Burger & fries were missing, the combo was barely lukewarm, it wasn't cooked through, the shredded cheese in the enchiladas was mostly unmelted. We usually have decent luck at Rudy's, not sure what's changed. read more

Was driving north and hungry. Yelped closest Mexican and got this place. Walked in and asked if they have a veg burrito. The nice girl said yes!! Then the shock of an almost $15 burrito. She even said they were expensive!!! I thought man this is going to be an amazing burrito with all kinds of different veggies etc. went out to my car and took my first then second then third bite. I am a slave to yelp so it was only in a moment of minimal attention while passing through with my kids that I ended up in a three star restaurant. I paid for that mistake. This was a three star place st best. If I was alone it would have been 2 stars but I took into account that my kids (16& 21) seemed happy with their burritos. First the taste- I found my carne-asada meat bland and with a slightly rubbery texture. Just not a great burrito The preparation- I eat burritos all the time and can get to the end without them completely falling apart. Not sure what went wrong but I wasn't the only one who's burrito was a mess half way through. Someone may need to go back to burrito wrapping school A pet peeve- the place had some great salsas but there were two problems that drive me nuts. First- they control the plastic cups and you get less cups then there are salsas. I like places that are ok with excessive salsa consumption. This is a review for my last visits to Rudy's in Carpinteria. A few cents less than $50 for 3 classic burritos is too much. Also stopped in for a taco Tuesday and returned the food - the soft taco had a tortilla that was hard as a rock and like others, I've had more than a few overcooked crispy tacos and even cold tacos. Picked this place at random for dinner while visiting the area. Service was friendly. The salsa bar is nice with a larger variety of salsas. I had the fish tacos which were average. I barely tasted the fish. I remember when a fish taco use to be a frozen fish strip thrown into a taco instead of beef. The fish taco has come a long way. The fish were smaller fish cubes that I barely tasted at times. The beans and rice were ok. I have had better. Overall, an average place for ok Mexican food. read more

Taco Tuesday... $2.50 per. But the quality is either "hit or miss." On today's visit, it was a toss up. PLUS - Friendly, efficient service. Small town "feel." What a great place! We stopped here after becoming discouraged with Subway next door not having a restroom for customers. We were pleasantly surprised by the tasty lunch we enjoyed. Hubby & I each had a hard shell carne asada taco & a soft shell carnitas taco. They were huge tacos with a humongous amount of high quality lean meat literally packed inside. We loved them so much & had a hard time deciding on our favorite. The salsa bar was great & the employees were very gracious & pleasant. It was a little pricey but worth it! I was hesitant ordering from here due to the low rating and poor reviews. However, I'm the type of person that needs to try before bashing a restaurant. I probably tried almost the entire menu with the exception of the burgers. The crispy tacos are good but I would stick to beef the chicken was a bit dry, however still very good full of cheese, salsa, and lettuce in a crispy shell with juicy meat mmmm just yummy. The potato, beef and chicken taquitos were sooo good too. With lots of guac, cheese and salad. The taquitos were my favorite. My husband was hooked on their chille relleno burrito, and let me tell you it didn't disappoint. As for dislikes I would have to say their tacos. The chicken "street taco" was to dry and tasteless under seasoned. As were the beef and carnitas. Just not well prepared they need a little more love. They have the best salsas and best guacamole. Usually a great place in Santa Barbra. But the girls behind the register here in carp just don't have it together! I went in, ordered a taco salad. Pretty simple. Three people came in and ordered after me. I watch all of them get their food, some ordering multiple items and still my order isn't ready. I finally then ask,,,,they ask the cook, he says he doesn't even have the order. They fumble through the receipts, and then I say 'if they haven't even started my order, it's been almost 30 minutes, I have to get back to work.' so I ask for my money back. She says, 'well it's takes the cooks time and there is grub hub pick ups'. ???? 'Yea, and they took their time to make others people food who ordered after me first, not one grub hub order was picked up or even placed on the pick up table while I was there, she was just trying to make excuses rather than owning up to her mistake, and waisted my whole lunch.' She then just says, 'well it's fine, we're giving you your money back'. !!!!???!!!??!?? Just didn't care or didn't even apologize. Such a waste of time. Totally not acceptable for a business to treat people like this when they choose their establishment to spend money at. Corn tortilla with an egg over easy, beautiful bed of lettuce and possibly a half an avocado! Cottage fries, a separate container of black beans, cheese on top! Then Chips and several flour tortilla all wrapped up! Everything was fresh and hot! I asked if I could supply my own seltzer water and sit out front at a table? I was welcome to sit wherever I want! Was craving a quesadilla so decided to stop here since it was one of the only places with Mexican food still open. Such a disappointment, the quesadilla itself was not horrible but I have had better. Not only was it falling apart, but there was hardly any cheese and the "guacamole" they included on the side was super bland. Literally tasted like they just mashed up some avocados and left it like that. Idk if it was because it was 30 minutes before closing but the food wasn't all that great. I also asked for a horchata which she told me they didnt have, so then I asked for a jamaica and once again they didnt have that either and the girl ay the cashier said oh they didnt make them today....both items are on the drink menu so I find it kind of weird that they choose not to make it on certain days. Clean, austere, not a lot of character. The prices seem high at first but you are getting more in your taco and a pretty good salsa bar. You get chips with your tacos instead of a free for all basket and mediocre table salsa.
