Nice old style diner in Carpinteria CA. We went in for brunch they have a pretty nice diverse menu! My Better-half decided on the pancakes with strawberries and whipped cream. The DIL went with a Omelette my son and I went with their Ruben Sandwich which was one of the best Rubens I've ever had! The service was warm and friendly and accommodating! A great breakfast/lunch/brunch spot with an expansive menu. There were so many different things that looked good on their menu. I went with the breakfast burrito (veggie) which was delicious. I got sweet potato fries instead of chips and salsa. The sweet potato fries were great. Our table also got the veggie patch which was essentially my veggie burrito without the tortilla. It was a nice portion. Also ordered was a jalapeño bacon burger that my husband devoured with curly fries and a regular burger. Angela, our server, was our very festive, helpful and on top of it. Food was good but the customer service was severely lacking. There is no hostess to keep track of the waitlist or to even just greet you. Another party waiting informed us about writing our name on the waitlist. Once seated, we were ignored/waited 15minutes for anyone to come and tables that got seated after us immediately got their drink and food orders taken. I can see why this little cafe was so busy when we went. All of the staff we talked to were really friendly, and the owner Rick went above and beyond to make sure no one left without a smile on their face. That's exactly the type of person who should work in the service industry, and the type of person that makes you want to come back as soon as possible. There is a little notepad outside the door where you can write down your name while you wait for a table to be ready, and benches conveniently right outside for while you wait. This place was buzzing on a Sunday afternoon. We waited maybe 15 minutes before we were seated out on the patio, which was shaded and nicely kept. We all were happy with our food. I got the green chile scramble with toast and hashbrowns, and I feel like that's a pretty simple brunch, but I was in heaven. Great food. My only complaints were that my iced tea just tasted like water, and there were no toilet liners in the restroom. Neither of those things would make me want to stay away, but I just feel are important to point out. I still loved this place. We arrived around 11:00AM on a Sunday and the wait was an hour. There are shops next door that you can browse while waiting. Counter, Indoor and outdoor dining. Typical café. We got waffles, bacon, and eggs, potatoes, toast. Everything was very good. We got takeout and it was interesting that they added gratuity to our bill. Any time I'm in So Cal I make it a special trip to stop in Carpinteria at the worker bee cafe. I've been coming here for years with visiting every 2 years or so, but nothing changes and I love every bite. It's a homie vibe and the staff are always friendly and tentative. We spent Memorial Day Weekend in Carpinteria and having brunch at The Worker Bee was the perfect way to end the long weekend before the drive back home. The wait list was posted outside the door but we got seated right away by the nicest gentleman who was the owner. He was apologetic for being frazzled which was not necessary at all! Just happy to see the place was busy and almost all tables and the bar area filled with hungry customers. He gave us our menus, explained each side and when I asked what he recommended - he happily shared that they make their own corned beef hash in house and that was all my husband needed to hear!!! He got the hash while I ordered the breakfast burrito and our son had the chicken tenders. The corned beef hash was excellent and the meat was tender!! No wonder he was raving about it! My breakfast burrito was delish and the salsa was perfect! We also ordered a side of the jalapeño bacon and that is highly recommended!! Our server was also very attentive without being so in your face which we appreciated. This place is great, the service was very personalized and we appreciated feeling like we had been going there for years even though it was our first time. Food was amazing, we had the special Huevos Rancheros, the happily accommodated it to be vegetarian, so so good! We've been to tThe worker Bee before and I'm not sure why the review isn't here. Our server was Julia, but everybody in the place made sure our coffee was refilled. My husband had bacon and eggs, but he chose the jalapeño bacon and he said it was pretty good. We both had coffee and it was better than some places. We had a bowl of fruit and as you know, everything cost more. I had the potato skin hash which has bacon, potatoes, eggs, scallions, and sour cream with a little bit of horseradish. It was Valentine's Day and my boyfriend and I wanted to go to Esau's Cafe but they were closed on Wednesday so we went to this cafe. We have been to this cafe times and we liked their food and service before so we decided to have a brunch here. But this time, the experience was different. Normally I don't write a negative review that much but because I didn't have a good experience this time, I have to write a review honestly. Sorry. Hopefully, my review will help them improve their service. First, when I got into the cafe, a waitress (she looked like one of the family members of the cafe)and I almost hit each other. I said, "Sorry" but she didn't say anything to me and her reaction was "Be careful, you almost hit me!". I had a bad feeling from the beginning but I tried to forget about it. She asked us about drinks so we ordered coffee, and also I ordered a Giant Cinnamon Roll Special and my boyfriend ordered a Veggie Patch. When he ordered, he said, " Oh and I want extra avocado!". (He always says EXTRA) And the waitress corrected him, "You said "Extra" but it doesn't have avocado". Yes, that's true. I suggested to him, "You should say ADD avocado instead of EXTRA", as a joke because she sounded like she taught us English. I know he always says EXTRA, even though originally the dish doesn't have avocado, but other restaurants ask and correct him nicely. When the food was served, I noticed that whipped cream was missing. I was sure I saw "with whipped cream" on the menu, so I asked her to give me it. She didn't look happy so I started to wonder if I ordered the cinnamon roll correctly and asked her, "Is this a cinnamon roll???". She answered, "Yes, it's cut and grilled. Whip cream is not served automatically. You have to ask". When I heard it, I thought, "Really? Sorry I didn't know your rules, but do you mention it on the menu??" Anyway, my feeling was so down and couldn't enjoy the meal. I just wanted to get out of the cafe sooner. The whole experience was like I went to my grama's house and she told me what to do.... Before I left the cafe, I tried to go to the bathroom, but she was coming in my direction carrying dishes so I was waiting for her until she passed by me as if it was natural, without saying anything to me. I wanted to give them one star but I still respected that she was still working at her age, so I gave 2 starts. They have outdoor seating. You can park on the street.
