I can see why this little cafe was so busy when we went. All of the staff we talked to were really friendly, and the owner Rick went above and beyond to make sure no one left without a smile on their face. That's exactly the type of person who should work in the service industry, and the type of person that makes you want to come back as soon as possible. There is a little notepad outside the door where you can write down your name while you wait for a table to be ready, and benches conveniently right outside for while you wait. This place was buzzing on a Sunday afternoon. We waited maybe 15 minutes before we were seated out on the patio, which was shaded and nicely kept. We all were happy with our food. I got the green chile scramble with toast and hashbrowns, and I feel like that's a pretty simple brunch, but I was in heaven. Great food. My only complaints were that my iced tea just tasted like water, and there were no toilet liners in the restroom. Neither of those things would make me want to stay away, but I just feel are important to point out. I still loved this place. I got sweet potato fries instead of chips and salsa. The sweet potato fries were great. Our table also got the veggie patch which was essentially my veggie burrito without the tortilla. We spent Memorial Day Weekend in Carpinteria and having brunch at The Worker Bee was the perfect way to end the long weekend before the drive back home. The wait list was posted outside the door but we got seated right away by the nicest gentleman who was the owner. He was apologetic for being frazzled which was not necessary at all! Just happy to see the place was busy and almost all tables and the bar area filled with hungry customers. He gave us our menus, explained each side and when I asked what he recommended - he happily shared that they make their own corned beef hash in house and that was all my husband needed to hear!!! He got the hash while I ordered the breakfast burrito and our son had the chicken tenders. The corned beef hash was excellent and the meat was tender!! No wonder he was raving about it! My breakfast burrito was delish and the salsa was perfect! We also ordered a side of the jalapeño bacon and that is highly recommended!! Our server was also very attentive without being so in your face which we appreciated. It was Valentine's Day and my boyfriend and I wanted to go to Esau's Cafe but they were closed on Wednesday so we went to this cafe. We have been to this cafe times and we liked their food and service before so we decided to have a brunch here. But this time, the experience was different. Normally I don't write a negative review that much but because I didn't have a good experience this time, I have to write a review honestly. Sorry. Hopefully, my review will help them improve their service. First, when I got into the cafe, a waitress (she looked like one of the family members of the cafe)and I almost hit each other. I said, "Sorry" but she didn't say anything to me and her reaction was "Be careful, you almost hit me!". I had a bad feeling from the beginning but I tried to forget about it. She asked us about drinks so we ordered coffee, and also I ordered a Giant Cinnamon Roll Special and my boyfriend ordered a Veggie Patch. When he ordered, he said, " Oh and I want extra avocado!". (He always says EXTRA) And the waitress corrected him, "You said "Extra" but it doesn't have avocado". Yes, that's true. I suggested to him, "You should say ADD avocado instead of EXTRA", as a joke because she sounded like she taught us English. I know he always says EXTRA, even though originally the dish doesn't have avocado, but other restaurants ask and correct him nicely. When the food was served, I noticed that whipped cream was missing. I was sure I saw "with whipped cream" on the menu, so I asked her to give me it. She didn't look happy so I started to wonder if I ordered the cinnamon roll correctly and asked her, "Is this a cinnamon roll???". She answered, "Yes, it's cut and grilled. Whip cream is not served automatically. You have to ask". When I heard it, I thought, "Really? Sorry I didn't know your rules, but do you mention it on the menu??" Anyway, my feeling was so down and couldn't enjoy the meal. I just wanted to get out of the cafe sooner. The whole experience was like I went to my grama's house and she told me what to do.... Before I left the cafe, I tried to go to the bathroom, but she was coming in my direction carrying dishes so I was waiting for her until she passed by me as if it was natural, without saying anything to me. I wanted to give them one star but I still respected that she was still working at her age, so I gave 2 starts. They have outdoor seating. You can park on the street. That recipe definitely needs work (does nobody test them before adding them to the menu?). I would have sent it back but frankly I felt sorry for the waitress: service is harried and frantic because the owner is clearly a cheap-ass who refuses to hire enough staff, and it shows. It did not taste like greasy diner food at all it was very fresh very good ingredients, well seasoned and flavorful. And even though it came out quickly it was everything was cooked fresh to order. The coffee was good diner coffee if you know what I mean. And I loved my waitress. She seems like she's probably been there waitressing for a good while. She wasn't fake-effusive, but she was honestly friendly and attentive and made sure everyone was seated and happy and had what they needed. We started our beautiful day in Carpinteria with brunch at this cute little place. It was busy! But that didn't take away from the warm welcome and great service we experienced. The menu is extensive but given it's our first visit, we decided to start at the top. I had the homemade corned beef hash and eggs with a biscuit topped with gravy. My husband can never resist biscuits with gravy so he chose to have it with chorizo and eggs. We then added a side of fluffy pancakes to share. That corned beef hash - WoW! Melt in your mouth tender and juicy. It was all so, so good. The portions were just right. Service here is amazing. Our server was friendly and attentive. He was supported by the fantastic owner who kept tables clean, seats filled, drinks refilled and somehow found time in between to acknowledge the regular patrons. Really sweet. We then spent the rest of the day browsing through the quaint shops right outside the restaurant, then walking up to the beach to admire the scenic views.
