Roaches. Went there last night for Mother's Day. We ordered Fresh fish". --salmon and halibut. Tasted a little fishy; it was just ok. But for the high price - fish should be excellent. But the very worse thing: was the German cockroach we saw sprinting across the wall next to us. I told the owner, he was nice and understanding, took full responsibility for it-and said "they're everywhere." I appreciated his honesty. Probably my favorite restaurant for a birthday or celebration. It is SO welcoming/homey feeling. Lots of comfort food! The bread is amazing. The split pea soup is my favorite so definitely recommend that over the clam chowder. Their salad is SO fresh. And every meal comes with a slice of pie!!! I had Alaskan habitat, it was cooked perfect - delicious. One had fried chicken, super fresh! And 3rd person had local snapper. Split pea soup was delicious and served hot! Pies were good, I had blackberry and it was clearly canned due filling, but tasty. The cream pies were a big hit. Let's face it. This is a throw back, OG place. Enjoyed a generous portion of super fresh, local wild caught sea bass. It was served with a tasty tartar sauce. The baked potato is unique--as if they skin it and fry or air fry it. The clam chowder was my least favorite component of the meal; it tasted a little like it contained chicken broth and was pretty thick with not enough vegetable. Still, I ate it! I took the remarkably delectable chocolate walnut pie to go. Wow! Personally, I would like to see the décor freshened up a bit, though I like the old school vibe, the furniture feels worn. Service was friendly and attentive. This was my second time here--the first having been about 10 years back. I don't even eat steak, but they offered four kinds of fish on the chalkboard. This restaurant is awesome! The dining room feels like you're sitting at your aunts house, with charming decorations and comfortable seating. The service was stellar. Our server had been around the block before, she made some great suggestions for what to eat. The prime rib was outstanding, the salad was crisp and fresh, the soup was delicious and the pie at the end was out of control. I'm looking forward to going back and trying their famous fried chicken next time. I highly recommend this restaurant. We went in the middle of a huge storm and despite the parking lot being flooded (wear boots in the next rainstorm and you'll be fine) the service was so pleasant and we felt taken care of and the food was so good... fish, steak and sides were delish. read more

My first dinner experience at Clementine's and I thoroughly enjoyed the food and friendly service. It's like being in someone's home enjoying great food. Out dishes were very tasty from the thick cut and juicy prime rib to the tender tri tip. All dinners come with homemade soup/salad, freshly baked bread, and a slice of homemade pie. And they had a long list of pies they bake fresh for you. So amazing to enjoy a home cooked meal here. The staff treated you like family and made sure you had everything to enjoy. I was in the area and wanted to find a local spot and this was a great find. Locally owned over 40 years. Hous made and fresh food. Pie is sincluded with every dinner. You get rolls, salad, your giant dinner entre and a slice of over 10 different homemade pies to choose from. Friendly place, No waiting, great food and a good price. You will have food left over for at least two more meals. I was already quite full before my entree ever came. One dinner can defenitely feed two people. The inside has a definite home feel to it. We camp in Carpinteria every Fall and have always wanted to try this place. Finally had a chance last night and it didn't disappoint. The outside of the building looks very run down, so don't let that put you off. The food is absolutely delicious and the service by Esther was the best. She was so nice. We were told they had fabulous steaks, but we opted for their fish. My husband had the red snapper with rice pilaf and a bowl of clam chowder. Pie also comes with the meal and he had coconut creme. I had Sea Bass that was cooked to perfection with zucchini as my side. Had a bowl of delicious split pea soup and my pie choice was cherry. We took the pies back to our trailer. Belly so full - I had to unbutton my pants! For starters the cup of clam chowder was hot and mouth watering along with a well made salad - what is that, let me explain. Well chopped dark green leaf lettuce, shredded carrots, sliced beats, sliced cucumber, sliced cherry tomatoes and flavored croutons which are cut from the hot oven baked rolls that are put on the table as you walk in (don't miss out delicious) Ask the ladies to mix you the Blue cheese and sweet Russian dressing, what a flavor. I had the freshest evenly moist baked salmon with glazed carrots, rice pilaf. The plate comes with tarter sauce and lemon wedges, my opinion not needed. My daughter had the sirloin tips which are basted in a mushroom wine sauce making the steak tender juicy and a delight to eat. Lastly, my husband had the Prime rib medium rare and cooked to perfection. (If you love steaks this is the place to stop) the side dish was a to die for twice baked potatoe with the fixings on the side. And YES a home made slice of pie - Yes this baker can bake!! We decided to try this restaurant based on the great reviews, but unfortunately, we left disappointed. We arrived at 8:15 p.m., thinking we'd have plenty of time to enjoy our meal before the 9:00 p.m. closing. However, our experience felt rushed from the moment we sat down, mostly due to a pushy older waitress who seemed eager to close up. On a positive note, the bread, clam chowder, and Russian dressing were all delicious. Unfortunately, the prime rib (ordered medium-rare) was tough and lacked flavor, even though it looked perfectly pink. The waitress reminded us several times that the restaurant was "winding down," brought the check at 8:40 p.m., and immediately asked us to pay. She also suggested we take our dessert to go. When she asked how everything was and we tried to express our disappointment, she walked away mid-conversation. From the start, she was rude and impatient, rushing us to make decisions about our meals and even our included dessert. It's a shame because the restaurant itself is quite charming, and the first gentleman who greeted us (on his first night) was warm and welcoming. Overall, what could have been a lovely dinner felt rushed and dismissive -- very disappointing given the high expectations set by the reviews. We read the reviews and wanted to have a really good prime rib. First of all service was so slow. Sat down right away but didn't get water or bread for 25 mins. Then after we ordered drinks and food, nothing came out for another 30 mins. When we hit an hour of waiting just for our salad that wasn't apealing looking, we were starving and frustrated. We complained and the waitress was very sweet but couldn't do anything. By the time our food came out it was an hour and twenty five minutes and it was cold and didn't taste good. Worst experience and worst prime rib we've ever had. The place needs a remodel from the old carpets to the very rough tables and chairs. read more

A sweet little cozy house-restaurant with delicious food and friendly professional servers. More than enough food for the big eaters let alone the average ones. The starter bread is absolutely delicious. Perfectly dense, and was told freshly baked that morning (no doubt, I can tell) and has a hint of molasses which I love. Portions on everything was generous in quantity and quality. For example, the salad was large, well mixed with lots of green leaves, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, beets and bread crumbs with multiple dressing choices. The sides were just too many to fill up a single stomach and dinner included dessert- a pie and others. Take home is welcome and not frowned on (like some places). I had the Fried Chicken and it was absolutely the best. Perfectly seasoned. No fat under the crispy skin and huge portion, enough for a delicious left-over :) I almost felt guilty leaving with so much food for the price we paid! Had the prime rib low carb style, doubled the veggies, had a dinner salad, no bread, potatoes or pie which are all included in the price of dinner. The food alone was very good, I would rate 3.5-4 stars but the service was on point and bumps it up to 5 stars. No alcohol for me on this trip, so dinner with iced tea was $55 + tip. I write a review but our experience here on Saturday was soooo bad, I needed to vent it out. My wife and I thought we would get here at 5 for an early dinner and sat in the adjacent room that was empty. Then a party of 3 showed up opposite of us. And a few minutes later a couple arrived celebrating her bday. We all received water quickly and never saw him again. We were all waited on by Jenny who we remember seeing her the last time we ate here. Needless to say, because of her we don't need to come ever again. All the dinners come with soup or salad. We ordered salads and heard the couple behind us and the table of 3 order salads as well. We never got ours, the table of 3 was brought soup that they told Jenny they never ordered. And the couple table behind us received there's about 15 min later. Mind you that the rest of this smaller restaurant has other tables being helped by other regular servers including a large table of 8/9 that showed up much later they were getting great service. When our entree finally showed up about 45 min later we tell Jenny we never got our salads which we thought we were getting earlier. I told her we didn't want them but offered to pack them to go. Didn't apologize at all. Dinner was meh, probably due to the awful service. Btw, the table of 3 received their entrees when we were almost done and overheard their orders were not correct. What took the cake was the poor bday couple. Their food finally comes out after we were eating dessert and the husband finally just went off on Jenny, very nicely I must say. He said he saw all the nice reviews and thought this would be a great place to celebrate but said the food was completely tasteless and beyond late. And Nobody was taken care of them as well as our tables as well mind you and Jenny never even apologized or said what she can do to make it better so they just picked up and walked out rightfully so. My bill was $70 and change but didn't think about it till later going home that my CC receipt was $77 instead. I wonder why? Maybe to have us eat some the cost of that table that walked out because of her gawd awful service. I'm good never coming back. But don't sit in the back room for the love of god. read more

First time in Carpinteria and this was our first place to dine. Wow! Very generous portions! You have the option to choose between "regular" or "petite" size for dinners. We had the regular for each entree which includes soup AND salad, entree and a slice of pie. With so many reviews raving about the fried chicken (even though it's a steak house lol) I ordered the fried chicken with a baked potato. The entree also comes with veggies; it came with zucchini topped with cheese. There were 2 large pieces of the breast, one drumstick and one thigh/wing piece. I also had some fried shrimp and tasted the halibut. After having the soup and salad, I definitely did not have the appetite to finish even half of my dinner lol. Pace yourselves people!! The clam chowder was okay; it needed a bit of pepper. Use the crackers for your added salt, if needed. I liked that the side salad came with beets and that the dressing was on the side. The fried shrimp was delicious!! I had it with a bit of cocktail sauce and lemon. Yum! As for the main dish, the batter on the fried chicken is light and the chicken is crispy. I started with the drumstick which was super moist. Breasts tend to be a bit more dry when compared to a drumstick so I used the homemade cranberry sauce that came with it. It was great. The baked potato is a must and the side veggies, I could have done without the cheese. I tasted some of the halibut and nothing too spectacular there for me; I would opt to order something else. Lastly, I had the banana cream pie which was awesome. It had the perfect sweetness, however the crust was a bit too hard for me. It felt more like a tart since it was hard to break with a fork. The walnut chocolate pie was also good. Customer service was excellent! Everyone was friendly and attentive. Service was quick as well. I came in pretty hungry and left extremely full! We wanted to go out for a special occasion so went to Clementines. Yes, it is a charming old building, but really needs remodeling. The main dining room has a low ceiling and only one small window for fresh air. There were 2 ceiling fans, see photo, and so our table as well as the table next to us asked to have the fans turned on. Neither works. Midway through dinner we were both sweating. This is a "fancy" restaurant with the average price about $45. for one dinner. We spent over $100. for two people. A new ceiling fan can be purchased for about the cost of one of their dinners. Neither of our dinners were anything special. The men's restroom was dirty and really needs a new paint job. Plus, the toilet seat was totally loose. The health department as well as a safety team need to take a closer look at this restaurant. read more
