I've been here a couple of times now; the first time I had the prime rib special, and this time I had the chicken piccata. Both dishes were really good, but I think I would give the slight edge to the chicken piccata. Drinks are strong, and prices are good,. We went to The Nugget on the day it first opened. The service was lousy, and while the food was just okay, we tried to give them the benefit of the doubt since it was opening day. We decided not to leave a Yelp review because we figured they were still working out the kinks. Fast forward a year later, and we decided to give them another chance for my birthday dinner. Unfortunately, it was even more disappointing. We ordered several dishes, and it took an extremely long time for the kids to get their food, let alone our appetizers. Our waitress barely checked on us, and I repeatedly had to ask another waitress to find her. Over an hour went by, and as the birthday girl, I still hadn't received my dinner. My husband, who only ordered a salad, hadn't received his food either. When we finally got our waitress's attention and asked where our meals were, she apologized and told us they had forgotten to make them. She knew it was my birthday, which made the situation even more disappointing. By that point, the kids were finished eating, everyone else at the table had already eaten, and they were ready to leave. We told them to forget our meals and just bring the bill. If you're looking for good food and good service, this was not the place. We really wanted to like it and were hoping our second visit would be much better than the first, but unfortunately it wasn't. Zero stars from me. read more

The locals love The Nugget - generous portions of fabulous food in a cozy ambiance and friendly service . It's become my regular place to go. My husband & I had dinner with a friend on Sunday, June 28th at the Carpinteria location. It is hands down the worst meal I have ever had. Steak was over cooked and uneatable, mashed potatoes were ice cold, coleslaw was tasteless. The only good part of the evening was our bartender, very friendly and professional. Came in with a party of five on a Sunday evening. Seated immediately. Incredibly cute interior. Western themed. Fantastic antler chandelier and antique bar back. Staff is knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. My daughter had the prime rib special which I tasted (three bites) Huge, perfectly seasoned and cooked and absolutely delicious. I had the meatloaf dinner. I love meatloaf and this was hands down the best restaurant meatloaf I've ever had. Gravy was perfect and mashed potatoes were delicious. They serve Guinness which made me love them. My mom had the stroganoff and said it was delicious- her empty bowl backed her up. My sister had the Scottish salmon and said her fillet was amazing. Our friend had a salad that was epically large and filled with all kinds of fresh items. Think she'll get 3 meals from it. This place is reasonably priced. All the dinners other than prime rib were under $20 and even the special was just $39 - a bargain for over a pound of prime beef. The Nugget is the real deal. Great food and drink - and well run!!! Their bar tender unfortunately called out on Saturday Memorial Day weekend...It was super busy, but Lizette and her girl Saturday (forgot her name, old age ugh) were awesome. Calm, cool, efficient, friendly, attentive - they killed it. Just the one server pulling both waitress and bartending duties and her one helper on a busy holiday weekend and they juggled it all with such professionalism, teamwork, and style. Food was delicious, and I just love it when the service is so stellar and they actually care about their customers' experience and take such pride in their work, even when dealt a bad hand by no fault of theirs. There was no self pity, no woes me, just roll up the sleeves, put a smile on and get er' done! So awesome! Welcome to a small town bar and grill somewhere in Wyoming or Montana with pelts, rifles and trophy heads on the walls and antler chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. This charming slice of old west Americana is truly a gold nugget in Carpinteria! Went on taco Tuesday, got fish taco and tri-tip taco. Both were great! Partner got babyback ribs and they were perfect! Fall off the bone tender but still juicy and delicious; no overcooked chalky mess here, only the best ribs we've had in years. Garlic mashed potatoes were so good I regretted not asking for a double helping. A note on the coleslaw: if you're into creamy coleslaw, this is creamy coleslaw. I prefer far less creamy but I'm sure it's great if you like it creamy. Now this is a full bar too and the drinks are just as fantastic as the ribs. The margarita had too much salt for my taste, it got mixed in with the drink and it became briny. The one ordered without salt tasted a lot better. The service was great, we felt very well taken care of even as the room completely filled up. This is now 100% our go to place when we're in the area. read more

Staff was horrible and very rude (as confirmed in their replies to other reviews). Unfortunately don't know about the food because they wouldn't give us the time of day. I don't recommend coming here unless you're a party of 2 or less...we were excited to check out the new restaurant since carp has been changing so much. The first night we tried to come, they said the kitchen closed early and they could not seat us and the next night we called prior to see if they were open and they said yes come in, We get there and ask how long for a party of 9 and the host looks at us like were inconveniencing her and says "I can't" then lets us know she did not take the call so she'd call over the manager, who was very rude as well. They need better management and nicer if they want any business. read more

My family and I literally just left this place, and we couldn't get out of there fast enough. Ordered cocktails, a bowl of soup to start with, and two brownie sundaes for our kids. Imagine my shock and horror when my 8 year old said "ughh! What is this??" and pulled a washer (as in the kind that goes with nuts and bolts) out of his mouth. How in the hell does something like that even get in someone's food, let alone an 8 years old sundae????? The manager was kind and comped the bill, but we left immediately without finishing the drinks and didn't even get to try the soup. We stopped here for desserts. It was so bad that we couldn't stop laughing at how horrible the food was. The apple pie was two tiny apple slices with a teaspoon of melted vanilla ice cream and drenched in fake whip cream. The brownie a la mode was a salty store-bought sad little brownie, with another teaspoon of ice cream and smothered with canned whip cream. The strawberry shortcake sure did take the cake! I mean please take the cake!! It was two 1" thick slices of stale pound cake with a couple canned strawberries on top and (you guessed it) topped with an avalanche of whipped cream. Really surprised at the "5's" the restaurant has. Family goes to Carpinteria all the time (every couple of weeks at least for the last 60 years). The Nugget is the newest place in the space that has never been able to stay open for long. Went this morning for brunch as advertised on website as 10:00 am saturday and sunday. Door locked and hours on door state 11:00 am. It was about 10:30 so we went ahead and waited because we had never been before and wanted to try it. 7 of us (5 adults and 2 kids ordered). After at least 45 minutes, Omelette ordered with no cheese, came out full of cheese. Benedict ordered with no avocado came with avocado under the egg & sauce (hard to remove). Kids pancake raw in the middle (literally goopy). French toast had something gritty in it. felt like sand, but might have been eggshells. Toast was stale. One person ordered Huevos Rancheros and said they were great. Heard prime rib night is good too. Asked for manager and "he wasn't in" Asked what i should do about all problems, write letter, leave yelp review or ??? Server (super nice) said that she would take off anything we didn't eat. We were starving by that point and I said we were making it work, but could she adjust the bill. I asked for 50% off, and that's what we got. "Only one cook in the kitchen" and it seemed he might not have had any prep time because everything took so long. Coffee not ready to serve and refills not offered until we asked. Long time customer of the Nugget in Summerland, which we love. Frequent once a week. We live in carp so we thought to give the new one a try. We were greeted by a friendly hostess, had a small wait as the restaurant had a full house. Wait wasn't too long. Restaurant is a bit more cozy than the Summerland location. Bit the ambiance was fun. Our food was great my wife had the focaccia chicken club. And I had the ribs. I gotta say food wise it was the same as Summerland nugget, which was great! Service was good but again they had a full house so great for how busy they were. As far as drinks my wife got a Bloody Mary which was nugget strong. : ). And I got a beer on tap. All came out timely and our server was friendly. All in all can't beat the original nugget but the carp location is a good option for a quick bite and a strong drink with a fun western style ambiance. read more

Food was fine, normally much better and service was TERRIBLE! Middle aged waitress with auburn hair was AWFUL! Didn't check on us once, we had to ask to order apps, and never came by to ask if we wanted an additional drink or how our meal was. Our bill was over $150 and she paid more attention to the table with 2 males next to us who paid maybe $50 total. Ridiculous. She's gotta go. This isn't our first bad experience with her (even in Summerland). We've been here multiple times and normally like it, but some obvious growing pains in the new location. read more
