We ordered at 10:33 and the food arrived cold at our table at 11:37. The appetizers of bacon candy and beignets were not delivered until about 10 minutes before the mains, also cold. We ordered two plates if catfish snd grits, one with a replacement of hash browns for the grits, and both with sides of poached eggs. 3 of the 4 poached eggs were hardcooked and the 4th was semi-hard (and all were cold). The plate that was to have hashbrowns instead of grits came with an overbattered and very dark fried catfish piece atop a pile of semi-wilted spinach, with a separate dish of tater tots (all also cold) and a biscuit that was cold and hard. The grits that were to have been omitted in lieu of the hashbrowns came in two extra cups, and all were cold. The third plate on our order were cinnamon swirl pancakes; huge pile, some kind of frosting drizzle, and very cold. The fourth plate was a sandwich. It was fine, it was the expected temp and taste. Our visit was on New Year's Day, so it is possible that service was affected by short staffing, but there is really no excuse for the terrible food quality. We picked this restaurant hoping to replicate a wonderful experience we had with n the New Orleans sister restaurant. Epic fail. Really sad start to the new year. We will not return. read more

The style of the decor and ambiance is awesome it's all NOLA style and it truly feels like you are in the French quarter. It is a little pricey but good quality. Figured I'd try this breakfast spot since it was in a convenient location downtown. That's probably the only good part. Hostess just seemed like she didn't want to be there, so that was off-putting. I ordered the biscuits and gravy and though it came out quick the gravy was cold and the biscuit was dry. The eggs had good flavor but I feel like they were egg beaters from the texture. Just to get straight to the point, I found a long black hair and a long white curly hair in my biscuits and gravy to go order. I know things happen, but I was really sad because I only had 2 bites of the food I ordered and it was really yummy until I saw that. I just recommend making sure people have their hair up. Came in for breakfast based on the excellent reviews as a top breakfast and brunch spot in downtown Chattanooga. And the results are worthy and then some! After a warm and enthusiastic greeting, we were led to an umbrella covered two-top on the patio, on a beautiful fall day. My friends and I were looking for a good place to go for brunch on a Friday morning. Mimosas were a must, of course, but pretty much all restaurants that offer mimosa specials are weekend only, so I suggested Ruby Sunshine. No mimosa specials here, but the drinks we picked were strong and tasty. I got a Bloody Mary and my two friends ordered morning margaritas. Their mimosa flight is too cute to pass up btw. Everything came out in a speedy/timely manner. I almost always order the fried green tomatoes which I love, and we tried the seasonal berry beignets this time which were FUEGO. We loved breakfast at Ruby Sunshine. Great story of how hurricane Katrina put this New Orleans breakfast spot in Chattanooga. We had the biscuits and gravy and the migos. Both were excellent. They have a very extensive menu of morning cocktails if you are into that, but for us the coffee was excellent. A real Louisiana blend with chickery but smooth. Strong but without any bite that chickery sometimes gives you. A bit pricey for breakfast, but given the location near all the tourist destinations downtown it is what you are going to pay. read more

I was searching for a little something to eat after flying into Chattanooga for a quick weekend visit and I ended up downtown at Ruby Sunshine. This was after doing some quick research for a brunch spot via the Yelp Collections feature which is always majorly helpful when I'm out of town!! Since I was traveling I was feeling embarrassed to be bringing my rolling carry-on bag inside with me but the very sweet and welcoming staff held it behind the host stand for me and kept and eye on it for the duration of my meal. I sat up at the bar and was helped by a very friendly young lady named Bailey. I'm like 99% sure that I am getting her name right... I hope so, anyways! She recommended I try their signature Bloody Mary which is made with a house-made bacon infused vodka. I went for it, naturally and it was super good! I ended up ordering a shot of tequila to go alongside it before I got halfway through and that really did the trick... lol! I was being really indecisive about ordering a meal, so I opted for a side of their candied bacon to snack on instead of something that might be too filling. It wasn't really anything special, just some cooked bacon with brown sugar all over the outside. I didn't enjoy it too much, to be honest. After that, I got my check and headed on out to the aquarium which was just a block or two to the north on the riverbank. Would I come here again? Probably not. Pancakes and pancake varieties that make I-hop look stale and boring. I ordered the Florentine and mushroom omelet and not only was it beautiful and light, it was tasty and savory ... melted in my mouth. The salad was fresh leaves flavored with a fresh vinaigrette that complimented those sweet little tomatoes as I have never seen before. Hubby had eggs couson(?) with such sweet tasty shredded pork resting on an open biscuit, and the most beautiful poached egg centered on top all covered with a hollandaise sauce.... Oh my....
