My mother in law and myself went there Wednesday afternoon to catch some brunch. It took a couple of minutes before we were greeted and told to choose a table and the girl would follow us with the menus. We must have just missed the rush, because the booth we chose was not wiped down, no biggie, the server got it. I did not catch her name, and I don't have the ticket with her name. But, she was very personable and provided excellent service! She explained to us about how the sugar cane butter is made and that she loves the Southern BLT. My MIL ordered the BLT with fries, she said it was delicious, but had to take half home. I ordered the Southern breakfast and was impressed with my sausage links, as they were twice the size of anywhere else I've had them. Our dishes came out in minutes and we were thrilled! read more

Terrible experience all around. Our family has been wanting to try Ruby Sunshine since we first learned of their opening. We finally made it happen on a Sunday for brunch. We did the "get in line" option online which stated a 45 min wait. Upon arrival 20 mins later we were told by the hostess we would have an additional 45 mins wait time. Reluctantly we waited as our boys had their hearts set. We started with an appetizer since we were by now starving (the French toast bites). Underwhelming at best. Our main courses include shrimp & grits, pancakes, and the southern breakfast. Over a half hour of waiting for our food, my son's shrimp & grits arrived COLD! We informed our server who ran to the kitchen and returned telling us they were out of grits. She asked if he'd like something else. By now my son was starving, and the only reason we continued to wait upon arrival to the restaurant was for those shrimp & grits. Tears flowed, he was starving and exhausted from all the waiting and disappointment. He responded he did not want anything else. Shortly later, our server arrived with a plate of shrimp and grits. Ooookay..then we continued to hear other customers have grits delivered to their table. So we were dumbfounded. My husband then informed the server they had forgotten his eggs from the platter he ordered. She returned with a small plate of very cold eggs. By now, there was no point in sending the eggs back or even bringing it to the servers attention. We were all just ready to leave and never return. We asked for our check, and were very surprised the shrimp & grits had not been comped. No stop over from a manager, nothing. It was a waste of our Sunday early afternoon and $. I am so glad I did not listen to the old negative reviews! They must have been outdated! Everything was excellent! We had one of the best servers (I have ever met!) today for our first visit. Norman was kind, super responsive, knowledgeable and a tremendous example of how a smile can make a person's day! He could recommend a menu item that would be a good fit and also asked the right questions to make sure the food was a good match! The food was great- hot and fresh. He recommended ordering additional items such as drinks or starters without being pushy- he just seemed excited about the menu! The restaurant was well staffed and had a friendly atmosphere. I REALLY appreciated the T-shirt choices of the staff that clearly makes this restaurant welcoming for EVERY patron. The only thing that would make it better would be to have a manager or positive smiling face greeting as you came in the door. I would have liked to rave about Norman's service to a manager/owner immediately! Especially because the online reviews here on yelp do not match the positive experience I have, I think a super positive, bubbly, hardworking manager at the front would make all the difference! (my Dad is 87 and was a manager of huge restaurant/catering business for his whole life and so this is my bias. ). We visited the Ballantyne location and wasn't impressed at all. The quality of the food was not what we were expecting. The scrambled eggs were tasteless and crumbly. The home fries were cold and did not look made from scratch. The french toast bites were the best thing but even they were lukewarm. The service was not up to par as well. We were delivered tea and coffee without having spoons. The server said she'd be right back but took 15 minutes.... Had to use my butter knife to sit out drinks. We had to keep asking for refills long after our glasses were empty. I could understand if the place was packed, but there wasn't even a wait. In all we were disappointed in our visit. Maybe our expectations were too high going in. It's a shame because there aren't that many good breakfast restaurants in the area. read more

I was excited to see this location open as I've loved the one in south end, but it is too far away and often very crowded. However, my son and I visited this location and were severely disappointed. The food was cold and the biscuits tasted like they had been frozen and reheated. Our waitress was super sweet and did a great job but that was not enough to overcome the subpar food. I thought maybe my memory of the SE location was betraying me, but I was there last weekend and it was fantastic. This location just needs to rise to the level of the original. Acceptable wait. Friendly service. Above average food but at the highest prices in 28277. The negative and the reason we won't be back is the tip. It's bundled in the check at the end but your server will ask what you want to tip as you're being rung up table side. If we hadn't checked the bill we'd have ended up tipping 40%. When told the tip was already on there the server said "oh right" and moved on quickly. We came for breakfast. The wait was long to be seated. Once we were seated and ordered our food there was another extremely long wait for the food. Once the food came it was cold. The food was just bland. I had bacon, eggs, grits, hash browns and toast (Simple) My friend ordered an omelette that was supposed to have bacon in it but they put mushrooms. The menu is very creative for a brunch spot; NOLA cuisine and flare. My husband ordered mix and match eggs Benedict. He had traditional and fried green tomatoes. I ordered migas. Both of us enjoyed our entrees. The restaurant has only been open 3 weeks. The wait staff was still trying to find their bearings and only half the restaurant was filled due to staffing. My review is about the food an the serve host Sam. Sam was very personal and attentive to what we requested and if it came wrong from the kitchen wrong she was very quick to make it right.
