We were staying at a local AirBnB in Kenner, so we bought some groceries and made breakfast there to save on money during our vacation in New Orleans. We had to check out of the AirBnB this past weekend on Saturday morning by 10 o'clock and we had 3 hours to spare before we headed to the airport. We were told again and again by our Lyft and Uber drivers that the Ruby Slipper was the place to go to for breakfast. We went there... and we're glad we took everyone's advice! We had all of our luggage with us and they were kind enough to watch it upfront for us while we ate. As new customers, we were greeted with a free appetizer of French toast bites. Those were so good, it made me want to slap my mom. I had never tried shrimp and grits before, so I ordered that, and it was quite lovely. The cane butter is where it's at!!! You have to put it on their homemade biscuits. Carolina, the hostess, was very friendly and accommodating. Our waitress, Rebecca, was very sweet and kind as well. The service and hospitality of this place was amazing for a little breakfast diner. We'll definitely be back to make a mattress out of those biscuits! read more

The menu has a lot of tempting options, and the biscuits were definitely a standout--fresh, flaky, and delicious. The fried fish was fried to perfection and had good flavor. The espresso was average. The food was great as always. Candied bacon is never a bad choice. I had tacos and my wife had eggs Benedict. Server was polite and timely. She didn't rush us or make us feel uncomfortable when we enjoyed some conversation after we ate. Plenty of people watching as some came to pick up and others sat for breakfast. I've eaten at this location twice and have come to the conclusion that there are better Ruby Slipper locations in the area. The beignets have consistently been good! My favorite dish is the Eggs Cochon and the portion size was significantly smaller at this location. I was still hungry when I finished it. On my most recent visit, I ordered an item with fried catfish. I can't remember the name but the fish was fried nicely, although lacking flavor. Service has always been good so no complaints there! Parking is a bit of a headache. Either get there early or you'll likely have to make several laps before finding a spot. The wait list is a must as well! read more

One thing I can say about this place is that they have some really good service. Waiters and waitresses are always cool and easy to talk to. The ambiance is cool but the food is hit or miss. My food was good. I had a few burned French toast bites and the chicken was the star of the dish. I sat at the bar and there was only one other patron. I was hopeful because I was offered a drink immediately. Then downhill everything went... I received my watermelon margarita wasn't asked my preference of rim condiments... my food came out and I sat for about five minutes to get my attendants attention and thankfully there were two people working the bar... I grabbed the attention of the other staff and she secured me a set of utensils. Whenever I come to New Orleans, I go to a Ruby Slipper for breakfast - it's the best. This was my first time at the Veterans location. We went during a busy time and parking was a bit of a nightmare, no space in the lot and not much room on surrounding streets unless you're willing to take your chances and park in a spot where you could be towed. The food took longer than expected, but our waitress stopped by frequently to update us on status. When the food came out, it was worth the wait!
