Everyone we ran into told us to try Ruby Slipper Cafe. So we decided to give it a try. We put ourselves on the waiting list but still ended up waiting past the 30 minutes. The hostess was super nice and friendly and made sure we got seated. The location we went to was originally an old bank. They have a few tables outside and the inside seating area has a few seats within. Our waitress was super nice and friendly. She answered all of our questions and made sure our drinks and food was brought out promptly. She was also really talkative and gave us some things to do while we were there. The menu options were limited to myself and one of my other friends because we don't eat pork and about 85% of the menu is pork based. The food was decent. Nothing to rave about like everyone said but again we don't eat pork so the dishes that ppl may consider some of the best dishes we didn't order. We got fried green tomatoes which were fantastic and an appetizer of French toast bites which were also good especially that cream cheese drizzle. We all ended up getting some form of chicken. The chicken sandwich was decent and it was huge. Again it was just okay. The service was the best part. I'm so glad she suggested that because the peacemaker and Benedicts were absolutely incredible! They were served lukewarm and not hot, which means that you can eat it once you get it, but isn't my preference. The avocado was good, ripe but not overly so, and the rest of the food was relatively good with my main disappointment being the temperature. We got the eggs scrambled. They were "meh," is how my friend described it. They weren't fluffy, creamy, or with the sort of larger curds in an American-style omelette. The Chicken St. Charles was poached eggs on a tough, room-temperature biscuit. The eggs were poached well, with the yolks being gooey, and the sauce was unmemorable. The fried chicken breast also just was alright. The service was somewhat slow, though to be fair they were very busy when we went on Saturday. I think the food and service was just alright, but our server was very friendly and I did really like the venue. They had cute decorations on the walls and many of their menu items painted onto blackboards in different colors and fonts. This was a very good stop for a weekend brunch. I'm often suspicious of chains, but this spot does it really well. Normally I've not been a big dine in person during coronavirus, but my roommates and I had been feeling very stir crazy - so we went someplace without paper menus and with occupancy limits. Right out of the gate, the floors and table were a little sticky and the drinks seemed really pricey (mimosas? For 10 dollars each?) I got the bananas foster french toast which was absolutely delicious. I also got a side of breakfast potatoes which were super oily and not really seasoned, so those were just meh. My roommates and partner all got various eggs benedicts which seems to be their special. All of the eggs benedicts looked and smelled delicious! The couple bites I stole were also fantastic. All in all will definitely come back to try something from the savory side of the menu, but not in my 5 star range. read more

Such an incredible team at this location. My husband had the Southern Breakfast. The eggs were scrambled to perfection, the applewood smoked bacon was crispy, the stoned ground grits were buttery and creamy and the added treat, aside from the fluffy cathead biscuit, was a fried green tomato. Perfectly prepared smoked salmon, avocado, pico de gallo with flash-fried capers served over sourdough toast points smeared with the most delicious herbed garlic goat cheese topped with a delicately poached egg, all setting on a bed of fresh spinach. This is a dish so heavenly. I could eat it everyday. I can't wait for our next visit to NOLA. We came here because we heard raving reviews! The one in the FQ was packed, so we had to wait about an hour, this one was a 2 minute wait. The dishes were good and uniquely flavored; I don't think many places offer what they do. I got the St. Charles chicken and it was delicious. We love Ruby Slipper! We went to the other location last year and did want to pass up another opportunity to eat here during this trip. This location was in walking distance frome our air b and b. We got right in and had a huge table right in the middle of the restaurant. I wish I'd taken some interior pictures. Service was amazing just like at the other location. We got drinks right away. I had a great gin drink called Hello Sunshine, just like Last year. Great for early alcohol consumption. Food came out quickly. It was hot and delicious. I had the biscuits and gravy. HUGE! Almost too much. I loved it. Wife and daughter had their favorite avocado toast. My son had the Gulf shrimp omelet. Everything was perfect. I found a Ruby Slipper t-shirt on the bottom of my dresser drawer the other day and thought wow I totally remember that place I went to in 2017 and it was really good and why not write a review. And since I'm stuck in California I can reminisce about how good their food was. The Corned beef hash was homemade and delicious. The shrimp omelette also extremely good loaded with cheese and shrimp and topped with Crystal hot sauce. Finally I'm all about bloody Mary's and New Orleans has some of the best, and this place did not disappoint. Great customer service and cool ambiance. I eat at this ruby slipper every week and, for the most part, the food is fine.. Several times, around six months ago, I got poached eggs that were wrong, cooked solid one time then severely undercooked the next. I stopped ordering poached and just settled for sunny side up when I wanted eggs. I thought the problem had been resolved and ordered three poached eggs today. They came out solid., I sent them back and got back eggs floating in water, cooked maybe 90 seconds, egg drop soup more or less.. Now this is coming from a regular customer, someone they know is a regular customer. God help the random tourist if they treat their regulars this way!! So the moral of my review is, this brunch restaurant hires cooks that don't know how to cook eggs, and don't care at all about what they serve. My advice is, if you get stuck eating here order something without eggs. read more

I had been trying to decide what review #2200 would be and I had a spot in mind, but decided that it should be Ruby Slipper instead. This is the last place I dined before the "stay at home" order from the mayor due to the covid-19 panic. We were already on edge when we ate here, but the bartender was AMAZING. He was funny and light-hearted and kept us laughing throughout our visit. He really took our minds of our worries, all while sanitizing everything and handling multiple customers at once with kindness. I'm kicking myself for not getting his name, but he had brown hair and a beard. He was wonderful. For my meal I got my regular- Chicken St. Charles, which is a fried chicken Benedict on top of a biscuit. I also got a side of grits and bacon. It was all delicious and, considering the circumstances, it was perfectly cooked and served with a smile. This experience is one of the reasons I love Ruby Slipper and I'll always return. I got the catfish and grits. The catfish came in a few strips and was a tiny portion. The shrimp and grits was soupy. The french toast was enough for two people but had too much sugar. However, I loved the biscuits (that honey butter was yum!) but the rest of my group said they were pretty dry. I came to NOLA a few years ago and we didn't end up making it to the Ruby Slipper because of the waitlist being too long and my fiancé needing to eat with their morning medication. On my return trip, we finally had a chance to come here and the food was seriously some of the best I've ever had anywhere. The service was incredible, the food was so so so good, and the atmosphere was perfect. I will be dining here again one day, hopefully in the near future. If you are looking for a good place for brunch/breakfast, this is the place! This was our first brunch destination during our trip to New Orleans and I have to say, the food and service was amazing. We had the fried green tomatoes, crawfish and grit cake, and biscuit with gravy. The fried green tomato was one of the best we've had. The batter was fried perfectly and the tanginess of the green tomatoes created a nice balance between the savouriness of the rest of our meal. The crawfish and grit cake was also very delicious. The crawfish sauce was super creamy and the spices added to it gave it a nice southern flare. I got the fried chicken benedict and the smoked salmon benedict. Food took slightly long to arrive but it was worth it. The biscuit was fresh and flaky, and nothing beats a poached egg yolk running over fried chicken or smoked salmon, while topped with a delicious hollandaise sauce. I pretty much wiped my plate clean. Thankful to our server Jack for recommending the fried chicken benedict, because I hadn't tried that ever before. We ended up going to a couple Ruby Slipper's while in NOLA. This location had fairly good food and service. When we headed out they ended up offering the honey a coffee to-go, with a fresh cup to take with him. I wasn't a fan (thus the one star loss) that it was really cold in the restaurant. Our other Ruby Slipper location didn't have the same problem, so it seems that it was only an issue with this location - it was cold outside as well, so I don't really understand why the meat locker vibe. We dropped in here because it was close to a shop we wanted to go to and it ended up being a great stop! They have this really cool option to mix and match some of their items like the different kind of pancakes, which I ended up doing, getting the crème brûlée and the white chocolate bread pudding pancakes. I ended up loving the crème brûlée one, and the other was just fine, so I was glad to have both to compare. If we were staying in New Orleans longer I'm sure we would have gone back since there were so many delicious looking options! They have a few locations here in the city too, although apparently one is closed temporarily due to the Hard Rock accident.
