We ended up going to a couple Ruby Slipper's while in NOLA. This location had fairly good food and service. When we headed out they ended up offering the honey a coffee to-go, with a fresh cup to take with him. I wasn't a fan (thus the one star loss) that it was really cold in the restaurant. Our other Ruby Slipper location didn't have the same problem, so it seems that it was only an issue with this location - it was cold outside as well, so I don't really understand why the meat locker vibe. All in all, probably not my first choice to go back, but if you don't mind the cold - definitely an A-Ok location to be sure. read more

Let me start by saying the host/server/bartender Sean is amazing. I love coming into an establishment and the first thing you experience is a phenomenal person. For my meal I ordered the brioche French toast that comes with bacon and I ordered an extra scrambled egg for an additional $2. As far as the French toast goes it is basic as ever. We had to add cream cheese, powdered sugar, and butter for it to taste good. I actually switched my meal for the cinnamon swirl because I couldn't do all that work (my sister loved her French toast with all the additions) The cinnamon swirl pancake is fantastic. We dropped in here because it was close to a shop we wanted to go to and it ended up being a great stop! They have this really cool option to mix and match some of their items like the different kind of pancakes, which I ended up doing, getting the crème brûlée and the white chocolate bread pudding pancakes. I ended up loving the crème brûlée one, and the other was just fine, so I was glad to have both to compare. If we were staying in New Orleans longer I'm sure we would have gone back since there were so many delicious looking options! They have a few locations here in the city too, although apparently one is closed temporarily due to the Hard Rock accident. The batter was fried perfectly and the tanginess of the green tomatoes created a nice balance between the savouriness of the rest of our meal. The crawfish and grit cake was also very delicious. We've been to this location (burgundy) several times in the past without a problem. Decided to have breakfast here Saturday morning and requested to have outside seating because we were visiting from the north and wanted to enjoy the weather as much as we can before headed home to PA (cooler summers). Great brunch spot! Walked in with one other friend at 9:15am with no wait to be seated. The dining space is fairly large with lots of natural lighting and cute signs with the signature dishes and a timeline of the building's history. Our waitress was very kind and attentive to the right extent (came by to check up on us but wasn't overbearing). My friend ordered hot tea that came with 2 Tazo tea bags and a metal tea pot of hot water. We ordered the Bananas Foster Pain Perdu and the Peacemakers (Eggs Cochon and Chicken St. Charles). The Chicken St. Charles was my favorite, it was super flavorful and satisfying smothered in the Tasso cream sauce. The Egg Cochon was also delicious but I just personally preferred the chicken. It would have been perfect if our plate didn't come out a bit lukewarm. The Bananas Foster French Toast is perfect for those with a sweet tooth. I personally felt it was a little too sweet/soggy from the caramel sauce and wished we had that on the side. But the caramelized bananas were delicious and the side of Candied Bacon was just the right touch of saltiness. PRE-DINING The cafe is walkable from some of the well known hotels in the area. I do not recall seeing a parking lot, but I would call ahead if you are concerned about parking a car, as there may only be street parking. I was seated right away, but it looks like you can add yourself to a waitlist from their website. AMBIANCE The cafe has a casual vibe, so you'll fit right in should you just be climbing out of bed after a fun night out in New Orleans. This location used to be a bank, so look around and read the fun facts on the blackboard above the bar. SERVICE Our server was very friendly, and enthusiastic about the menu. My experience here didnt start off well due to technical errors. The restaurant has a feature on yelp to get in line because this place always has a wait. I watched the app as the people listed in front of me dwindled down. It wasn't clear that you have you to check in and some people where sat in front of us so when the app went from 3 ppl in front of us to 7 I went inside. They said the system didnt alert them and so once they knew I was there I felt like they should have seated us next but we waited longer and it defeated the purpose of the feature. The food was great though and worth the wait. I got the Salmon Bennie which comes on two biscuits and is sooo filling! Definitely a plate you can share. I've never been big on eggs, meaning I never had any sort of poached eggs before visiting The Ruby Slipper. I saw a lot of hype regarding their Chicken St. Charles, and my love for fried chicken and biscuits led me to order it. God, I was not disappointed in any way. It was MAGNIFICENT. I wish I could order it from all the way over here in Texas. Honestly, I don't think anyone can simply just describe how good it is -- you've got to try it for yourself! I ordered the croque madam and it came with a sandwich made of two large pieces of challah bread plus a generous side of fries. It could easily have fed two people! Staff at the restaurant told me to take it up with the app and the app decided to refund me $5 with no option to dispute, despite the damage being more like $30, but hey... I would love to tell you it's better in person, but the whole reason I ordered online was to avoid the lousy service last time I visited! If you have fond memories of this place from years past, you're better off leaving them in the past. The food looks good -- this is a place that might be able to slide by with so-so cooking because everyone is soaking up the atmosphere. Not so. They're taking their job seriously.
