Got on the waitlist and it was a wait! As soon as we sat down we placed it order but The server wasn't great. We didn't get our coffee or tea but the drink from the bar came out quick. It was difficult to get refills. The food was ok. Nothing to write home about. I would probably not recommend unless you're adamant about trying it out.

A casual breakfast spot located at the end of a strip mall, Ruby Slippers is a quick and accessible option for those looking for a carb heavy southern breakfast. We were able to be seated as walk-ins on Presidents Day morning, although the place was absolutely packed. The service here was warm and the food came out moderately quick. This place feels like one of those higher end casual spots, definitely a step above IHOP, but not quite First Watch. We ordered a bunch of things so we'll break it down one by one: Pancakes with bacon - a bit of a letdown. Pancakes had no real flavor and the bacon was good, not great. Beignets - pretty good. Better than some we've had for sure, a nice sweet and doughy treat. French toast bites - very delicious. Came with a nice, sweet dipping sauce that really brought it home. Fried catfish & grits - hit and a miss. The catfish was delicious and lightly battered, the grits were very heavy and buttery which didn't go well with the catfish. It does also come with a biscuit that was light and buttery. Creamy vanilla iced coffee - good. Nothing too special, definitely better than a chain like Starbucks, that's for sure. It had a nice sweetness to it. Altogether, Ruby Slipper is a decent breakfast spot. Nothing we ate really hit it out of the park, but we were satisfied with our meal. It really seems like a local favorite spot and one that feels convenient to hit coming and going from NOLA. If you're looking for quick, convenient, and moderately cheap, this is the spot you're searching for.

My son picked this restaurant for brunch and it was a great choice. The food was definitely delicious for all of us except one person. Her bacon and potatoes were not good to her. The drinks were delicious. My daughter n law said there was water on the bathroom floor and that's unfortunate because she is pregnant. Should probably put up signs or have someone check them periodically for things like that. The waitress Ashley was very nice and polite. She was very helpful with menu suggestions. She seems to work really hard at her job. We are very grateful for her love for great service. Thank you Ashley ! We enjoyed our time there.

I got the miga and it was outstanding. My husband got the hot chicken and French toast bites. Also amazing. Coffee is strong and delicious. Service was friendly and efficient. Prices were reasonable. It is very pleasant inside and they have patio seating as well. NOTE to Business owner - you have enough customer photo's of your food. You don't need the business owner photo's. They make it look like you are covering up something. They automatically give a negative impact. YElper's want to see the real stuff when it is served. Just my opinion.

I just love this place. The praline pancakes are must! And Ashley C. Went above and beyond to make sure my experience was awesome.

    Southern Breakfast

I recently went to have breakfast. We made reservations so it wasn't a long wait time. I ordered the southern breakfast. My food was average my eggs were cooked well, added cheese to my grits but was very runny and my fried green tomato had no flavor, I ordered coffee and I had to send it back not good. Bacon and biscuit were average and eaten. My service was average. The restaurant was clean and I was seated on the side with a window view.

Beignets Starter, Fried Catfish and Grits, and Whipped Pineapple Mimosa
    B.V. R.

I had the Beignets for an appetizer, entree was Catfish and Grits, and for a drink Whipped Pineapple Mimosa. The beignets were a bit doughy, biscuit texture, the catfish was overcooked and chewy, the grits were real creamy which I did like, and the Whipped Pineapple Mimosa was fine. I was disappointed in the food as it didn't appeal to the tastebuds. The line was out the door, but the wait wasn't terrible at all. Our waitress got our tables mixed up so orders were going to different tables. She was a nice girl, but definitely inexperienced when it comes to a busy work day. Overall the food wasn't worth the price and very disappointing.

Found this place on Yelp, and the food was pretty solid. I will say, though, their waitlist and host situation is a bit of a mess. The area is super small with zero organization. We were in town for a football game, so I imagine it was busier than usual, but the hostess still seemed extremely overwhelmed and unsure of what was going on. Thankfully, the general manager ended up seating us, and he was extremely nice--our server was great as well. We all ordered mimosa flights, which were just okay. They had way too much juice for my taste, and the glasses weren't filled anywhere near the top. But the food made up for it. I had the Benedict Trio, which was amazing--super flavorful and very filling. The beignets were also hot, fresh, and delicious. Overall, a good spot for food, but the front-of-house operations could definitely use some improvement.

Gulf Shrimp Omelet with Breakfast Potatoes
    Seanniece B.

We were greeted and seated immediately. It did take a little minute for our waiter to come to our table but she took our order quickly and put it in the system. I ordered the gulf shrimp omelette with breakfast potatoes, gluten-free toast, fruit salad, and chicken sausage. I also ordered an Earl Grey hot tea. So the food didn't take long to come out and the food did look good when it came out , for the most part. The side fruit salad was not great. I would not recommend it. Also, the toast came out cold, which was odd. The golf shrimp omelette was great. I got it without cheese. The breakfast potatoes, the ones that were not too crispy, were good and the chicken sausage was exceptional. Overall, I was really excited about coming here because they have a lot of history behind the restaurant, as well as they clearly mark their allergens, but it was a bit underwhelming.

    Trifecta Bennie.
    Ross A.

Prime time on a Sunday there is going to be a wait. Just roll with it, it is worth it. I have had countless versions of eggs Benedict across the U.S. and I can say the trifecta at Ruby Slipper is hands down the best I have ever had. Even being crazy busy we had great service with a smile.

Let me start by saying the food was great. I had the bananas foster French toast and mom had the southern breakfast. On the other hand, the service sucked at best! After asking could we move outside because mom was cold she told us fine, just grab your stuff and move. I let that go. When she came out to take our order and then bring food she threw our food and napkins on the table(literally) and walked away. She continued with that type of service. I asked for my ticket, paid, then finished my food... didn't want her back to our table.

Healthy breakfast that is quick and tastes great! If you want to try something local and has good breakfast food at a decent price, this is your place. Lots of menu options for breakfast. The only drawback is it closes around 2pm daily. The service is great and it is usually packed. Everything was plated well and delicious. I kinda wish the portions were larger though.

Ordered from The Ruby Slipper on Uber Eats while in town, and every time I've had it, it's been outstanding. All of their breakfast dishes are consistently great - simple, satisfying, and really well done with that nice Southern touch. My favorite has to be the New Orleans-style French toast... so good. Easily one of the highlights for me. Overall, just a super reliable spot for a great breakfast. No complaints at all.

It's a small restaurant with a small open kitchen and a small dining room where you stand in line to place your order, get a number to put on your table, and servers bring the food to your table when it's ready. So, if you're looking for a large upscale, elegant restaurant with elaborate food presentations, this is not the place for you. But if you're looking for a simple, quick and delicious meal, Simple Joe Café is for you. The menu consists of a wide variety of breakfast favorites, but the menu is not intimidating and easy to read and order from. Simple enough. When my family and I arrived, the small dining room was packed with a few open tables and about six other customers in line waiting to place their order. On Saturday and Sunday, you cannot sit at the open tables or hold the tables until you have placed your order and given a tent number. At that point, the servers will help you find a table to accommodate your party. The employees do a very good job of clearing and turning over the tables to make sure everyone is seated and able to enjoy their meal in a timely manner. I am not a fan of breakfast food and normally don't eat breakfast, so I only had coffee while my family enjoyed their meal, so the food quality part of this review is based on what they described as they were eating. They each ordered Joe's Number One Breakfast Combos which came with two eggs, choice of meat and pancakes and they shared an order of hashbrown and a side of grits. The food came out quickly. They stated everything was fresh, prepared and cooked as requested, the food tasted very good and enjoyed every bite. Of course, the coffee was hot, and fresh and the service was fast and friendly. The relaxed ambience and decor add to the unique character of the restaurant. Date of Visit: Saturday 05-16-26 Simple Joe Café | 3057 Government St, Baton Rouge, LA

We were in a large alcove at the back of the restaurant. It was spacious and elegant, even with the table ended up being almost entirely filled. Our waiter was enthusiastic and patient with our large party. Refills and check-ins were timed well. The drink selection was pretty extensive. Food was delicious and all delivered within minutes of one another (no one was stuck waiting for long). Burger was cooked to perfection and not TOO hot. I hate when food is so hot in temperature that you can't take a bite. The chocolate cake was good, but the whip cream tasted kinda fake/oily. The cake itself was medium density and had a slightly salted finish. It paired perfectly with the frosting which was very rich and extra sweet. A delightful pairing. For my drink, plus a double shot of whiskey, the burger and dessert, it came to just over $100. That feels expensive. Take that as you will. I wouldn't return mostly due to price. We ordered two coffees, which came out about 10 minutes later. After that, things went downhill. There was a grandmother with three young grandchildren seated at the table next to us. Their table was directly in the sun, and the metal chairs were literally too hot to sit on. They asked if they could move to one of the 3-4 open booths in the shade. The waitress told them those booths were reserved. The problem? Not a single person sat in those booths during the entire hour and a half we were there. The solution offered to the grandmother was, "Next time, try making a reservation." They ultimately had to leave and find somewhere else to eat. Watching a grandmother and three little kids have to leave because an empty shaded table was being "reserved" was honestly pretty upsetting. Meanwhile, we waited an hour and a half for our food. We ordered an omelet and a breakfast burrito--nothing complicated, no substitutions, and nothing that should reasonably take that long. When the food finally arrived, it was mediocre at best. The overall atmosphere felt less 'charming and quirky' and more like a run-down, cluttered junkyard that's been intentionally styled to look eclectic. It has that very curated 'quirky' aesthetic where things that would normally look unfinished or out of place are apparently part of the charm. I really wanted to like this place, but between the unnecessarily long wait, mediocre food, and the way that family was treated, I can't say I'd recommend it. There are plenty of brunch spots where you can get better food and much better service without waiting 90 minutes.
