This is my third consecutive somewhat negative experience in the last 3 months so I felt I needed to post a review. Server had too many tables and was not able to be fully attentive to all. Our food was brought to the table cold after an unusually long wait after ordering. Server just seemed to be overwhelmed. The overall dining experience from seated to paying the ticket was almost 1hour and 35 minutes. Entirely too long. I did enjoy the fresh coffee and the casual dining atmosphere. This is post is not to deter any visitors to Ruby Slipper, but to hopefully get the owners to invest in more employees to get the dining experience back to what it was or better. read more

Went here years ago. It was just ok. The wait was extremely long and when we finally got seated, the menu was ok. Tables are very close together. Didn't enjoy being almost in somebody else's space. Didn't desire to go back. read more

We got on the wait list (15-20 mins) for a family of 4. An hour later, we noticed multiple people came in and were placed on the list and then seated before we were ever seated. 30 mins later I then asked the wait staff about us, and they said they forgot and then seated us. We ordered our food and drinks, I ordered coffee and a water as drinks. Coffee was never refilled, even asking for more coffee. We saw our waitress 3 times, once when we ordered, once when we got our food, and once when we paid the bill. After I paid the bill, she asked if I wanted a refill of water. I told here no that we were leaving. The food was decent but the service was not. I do not recommend this place. read more

We walked in shortly after they opened and there weren't many customers so speed of service shouldn't have been an issue. We ordered an appetizer with in the first 10 minutes of arriving. 30ish minutes later people who were seated after us were eating and we hadn't received our app yet, never mind our regular food order. My amazing server, Ashley, truly made the experience special--her kindness and enthusiasm made me feel like I was dining in the home of a friend. I ordered the ruby buttermilk biscuits and sausage country gravy with two eggs over medium, and crispy, applewood bacon, and let me tell you--pure breakfast perfection! The biscuits were fluffy, the gravy rich and savory, and the eggs cooked exactly the way I like them. But Ashley convinced me to try the peaches and cream beignets, and I am so glad she did! These are New Orleans style beignets with vanilla cheesecake and peach, compote, topped with whiskey, cream sauce, whipped cream, and cinnamon graham crumble. Immediate love affair. They were a heavenly blend of crispy, soft, and sweet--a must-try for anyone visiting. I loved this restaurant!! However, the one in Lafayette is by far not up to par with this one. I had the chicken with french toast bites and it was delicious!! Our service was very fast even though it was Sunday brunch time. We did have to wait maybe 25 minutes for a table but there is a Trader Joe's right next door so we just shopped around for a bit then we got called in!! Waitress was also very nice, well, all the wait staff was actually. 10/10 would recommend!! ( side note: all the food looked fantastic and it really tasted as good as it looked) read more

I've eaten at several locations before but my first time here. The hostess was not happy to be at work. RBF was really strong on her. She was very unpleasant. Same with her manager, Shawn. The atmosphere was on point, very home-y and also very modern! Our server Ashley was very attentive, super duper friendly, and made the experience that much better. Would 100% come back and request Ashley! We ordered the Very Berry Beignets, absolutely delicious, just the right temperature, crispy outside and delicious soft inside. The whip cream adds the perfect cooling taste to it all. I personally had their Biscuits and Gravy and absolutely delicious, the gravy was creamy, the sausage was perfectly cooked and seasoned! The bacon was absolute perfection, crispy and soft without being too greasy. The eggs were so so so good, nice and creamy yolk! This place is always packed but serve a pretty decent breakfast/brunch for the most part. Pretty strict on substitutions on combos and the grits were burnt and watery the last time I went but the atmosphere is typically nice and high tempo. read more

We decided to try this place because we trust Yelp! We sat for over 20 minutes without acknowledgment from anyone, not even a "good morning, someone will be with you soon" and that's that the waitress came to the table next to us a couple of times and made sure not to even look at us. Never got to try the food at this location we have in other locations and it was good that's why we decided to try this one. Place looked nice and clean, and for December 24 not overly crowded. My friend and I were in town for the UF vs LSU game and we decided to grab brunch before venturing around the city. Although Ruby Slipper Cafe didn't have the highest reviews, the ambiance looked nice and so we decided to chance it. When we arrived, there were lots of people waiting outside - turns out the wait was a true hour for a table for two on this particular Saturday. Luckily, Ruby Slipper Cafe is located in a busy shopping center so we killed some time at Lululemon and Trader Joe's. When our table was called, there was still a long line inside, but we walked right up and were seated right away. The ambiance of the restaurant is busy and bustling but not loud. There's the typical brunch energy in the air, with excited patrons enjoying cups of coffee ready to dig in to their meals. Curious, I ordered the MIMOSA FLIGHT: sparkling wine paired with Blueberry Lavender, Watermelon Pomegranate, Pineapple Peach Bellini, and Blue Orange. Due to some accident at the bar, this didn't arrive until after our meals were delivered, but y'all. This is AWFUL. Hands down and easily the worst mimosas I've ever had in my life. My first taste was the blood orange and turns out, that was the only decent one. I forced down most of the pineapple peach bellini and could not even drink the blueberry lavender or watermelon pomegranate holding my nose. I hate wasting alcohol but I simply could not drink these. I'm not sure what made these drinks so awful, but omgosh, bad bad bad. On to the food! I wanted to experience some Louisiana influence, so I had the GULF FISH CREOLE: grilled gulf fish, corn maque choux, flash-fried capers, gulf shrimp and creole sauce. This dish was very delicious! The fish was cooked well and I liked the combination of the corn with the creole sauce. No complaints here. My friend had the SWEET HEAT CHICKEN & FRENCH TOAST BITES: Fried chicken and fresh strawberries tossed in Mike's Hot Honey glaze over French toast bites. He was intrigued by the Mike's Hot Honey glaze versus having the entire dish drenched in maple syrup. He ended up finishing every bite so I think he'd recommend the dish! I had a bite of the fried chicken and it was juicy and delicious. Service was great and attentive. Overall not too many complaints about this place, however, I wouldn't say the food (and definitely not the drinks) are worth the hour wait if that's what it takes to dine here. read more

Great traditional breakfast spot in Baton Rouge! I came here on a Saturday morning and it was definitely busy! I was able to get in right away because I was willing to sit at the bar however it was about 20-30 min wait for people who preferred a table. Apparently you can go online and reserve a waiting time but you still have to checkin once you get there, which seemed to be the same wait time as just walking in without checking in online. Food was very delicious and their hot coffee really hit the spot for me on a cold morning that it was. Ambiance was like a traditional brunch spot, it was clean, busy , and the smell of bacon filling the air ! I highly recommend coming here for you breakfast/brunch mornings and don't be surprised if there's a little bit of a wait on a weekend morning, but it'll be worth the wait! read more
