On par for all the times we've need to Ruby River, consistency is good and but variety is the spice of life! Going to Ruby River on a weekend night for dinner seldom does not require a wait to be seated and this visit I'd estimate that was about a half hour. A barrel of peanuts sits in the waiting area which keeps you pleasantly occupied while waiting. Seating for two put us, what seems to be our assigned booth, because coincidentally the last few times we've dined at the RR we've been seated at the same booth for two on the perimeter of the bar. It's quite a busy area as you can imagine because those waiting for tables make the area more contested and louder than other seating areas in the restaurant. Next time I'm going to ask not to be seated in that area. The menu at RR is consistent too. Don't be expecting to hear about specials of the day because it ain't happing. But the selections on the menu are quite varied and their signature steaks are really very good! The jacketed yam is also a favorite because it's really good and not available at competitor restaurants. As much as I wanted to order it I didn't because I went for the plain yam to be more in line with my dietary preferences. The salad is a good side dish option which is good with lots of toppings. Also the dinners come with complementary warm sourdough bread with butter, which in my opinion is a meal in itself! Our Server was very good; she was attentive and friendly which are the two basic qualifications we look for in a server - Danielle M. definitely a job well done! This place is just so unorganized and I'm really not going to blame it on the covid19, as I recall my last review for them wasn't good as well! We wanted to meet up and have prime rib (2 out of 3 party) I first ordered a glass of Merlot and that took atleast 18 minutes to arrive and now ready to take our order...very young server named Marcus. We ordered 2 prime rib and 1 rib eye dinner! 15 minutes later our server came and let us know they had run out of prime rib, we need to order something else...we were bummed but went with the ribeye as well! Everything arrived but guess what? No silverware, no S&P no nothing! It took about 8 minutes and we finally received our forks and knives... from there it just kinda became a bad dream... my first guest was ok with her meal as well as my second guest! Mine came out raw as you'll see in the images! The other thing I wanted to add was that those lovely baked potato's must have been from the night before as they kinda just fell apart and weren't the normal jacketed bakes! I was so disappointed as I made this a friend reunion and it was just so disappointing! So we started looking around, and I noticed everything covered in a thicFrench Onion Soupk layer of dust my wife dropped her credit card, so I shine my phone under the table to see that there was more food under the table than on it plus used toothpicks and oh ya the cook kept yelling and whistling very loud made it uncomfortable for us both.I do not recommend this place the food was also not great ribs were dry and the chicken was covered in a mound of cheese couldn't even tell what it was. read more

I'm a huge fan of Ruby River Steakhouse, never In 4 years I have left this place dissatisfied. Ruby is a great example of a steakhouse where you don't have to pay an absurd amount of money for your meal. Prices are reasonable and portions are generous. I usually walk out with a food comma. RESTAURANT: This amazing restaurant is located on Virginia Street, across from the Peppermill Hotel. The decoration and the inside suggest a cowboy/rodeo style. It's a little more casual than other steakhouses but the quality of the food can easily compete with the most expensive steakhouses in town. Lots of rodeo pictures on the walls, cowboy boots and buckets with peanuts are part of the decoration. Good size restaurant, with option of seating at the bar, table, booth and private room (upon request). FOOD: The food at Ruby River is just amazing!! Everything here is delicious! You can always judge a place by the fresh baked bread they bring, Ruby's SOURDOUGH is just incredible. They have a big selection of appetizers but my fave are the "coconut shrimps." Here are some of my favorite choices for entrees: -Bacon Wrapped Filet mignon! I like it medium rare, juicy and flavorful. Sooo tender! -Prime Rib, cooked to perfection. -12 oz. Ribeye, marbled steak with incredible flavor. -Steak Oscar, great option if you want to try something different. The topping with crab is delicious! -Parmesan Halibut, when I'm not in the mood for steak, I'm in the mood for seafood. This halibut it's super filling and tastes great! The entrees come with two sides, so I normally get a salad, house salad with blue cheese! Omg! I crave this salad. They put eggs, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, onions and croutons in the salad! The plate is chilled so the salad feels super fresh! For my second side, I normally get a jacketed baked potato, which is served with sour cream, green onion, butter and bacon! Yummm! Other times I feel more like a yam, mmmm they give you cinnamon butter to put on it! Delish!! They also have healthier sides, like broccoli, asparagus, and sauté mushrooms. It is impossible (al least for me) to come here and not have a "RUBY-RITA," similar to a margarita but stronger and with some sweet juice, cheers! SERVICE: I can't write a review about Ruby's without applauding the excellent service here! The front staff, bartenders, waiters, cooks and manager. They all work together to give you the best experience! I've had JOSH, several times and he is always on point. He does such a great job managing the big crows that suddenly arrive here. 1st time here. We had reservations. We arrived and was told to washout outside until our table was ready. About 15 minutes later we were escorted there. We ordered the calamari. They were good but I've had better. There were 6 of us. All our dinners were good except the prime rib. He asked for medium but was served a medium rare that could have actually been rare. It had a lot of fat. The server should have come back to let him know they didn't have medium but he ate what he could. All the desserts were amazing. I have driven by this place every trip I make to Reno and finally decided to give it a try. Thank goodness I finally tried this place out. We arrived 1 hour after they opened their doors and we were seated right away. The waitress took our order shortly after and it did not take long for our dinners to arrive. I ordered the Top Sirloin and Baby Back Ribs. The sirloin was cooked just right and Delia. The ribs were cooked to perfection and the meet fell off the bone easily. It had the right amount of BBQ sauce but I had to order extra on the side because it was that good. The price of the meal was right in my opinion and well worth it. My family has been going here for years. We have always been able to get a good meal for a reasonable price. The meats have always been better than most. Since the pandemic, the restaurant has gone downhill. Although the servers are still efficient and polite, the quality of the food has deteriorated. It is obvious that they have decided to use lesser quality meats in an effort to cut overhead. The meats are tougher and have less flavor. My recent visit included prime rib, which had the taste and texture of a rump roast. My companion's steak was tough and lacked flavor. I hope that Ruby River can rebound from the poor decision to cut quality. I'll probably give it one more chance, but that would be it. read more

We had a gift card and came in not expecting much but oh my! The appetizer sampler was over-fried to the point of almost burnt and the sauces weren't great. My cocktail's ice was just about melted by the time it got to our table. My partner's ribeye had THREE different meat temperatures in the same steak, the salad tasted like a bagged Caesar. My steak was over done and very tough. The mashed potatoes had no flavor. We took a few bites and asked for the check. (Our server never asked why we sent full plates back) The icing on top was the thick layer of dust drifting down from the exposed ducts. I was actually craving tacos, but the spot I wanted to go to ended up being closed on a Sunday evening. My friend wanted a steak, but we didn't want to break the bank. Decided to finally try this place out. Being a Reno native, I have never been here before. Not really what I was expecting for a restaurant with the word steakhouse in it. It's a step below Outback, IMO. The building and decor inside was outdated, the floors were dirty. The service was decent. Now the food. They brought out bread, which came out warm, but was so bland. I got the coconut shrimp entree with a Caesar salad on the side. I actually did enjoy this dish, the shrimp were a nice size and came with a tasty orange marmalade sauce. My friend got a steak and ribs combo which he said was "pretty ok." We each got a drink as well and I'd say the bill was fair. I'm glad I got to try this place out, but I don't think I would return. read more

If I could put zero stars I would. My husband and I went here about a week ago to finish a difficult week off with a good note. When we have visited in the past, the food was great and the service was amazing. This time, the service was terrible and the food was less than poor. We were crammed into a small area with every other table full in the same area. We had to wait ten minutes before the server even came to take our drink order. The table next to us was so close we had to move chairs to make room for them. We ordered an appetizer of cheese fries, a ribeye steak with salad and side, and a top round steak with grilled shrimp with salad and side as well. We also ordered two iced teas to drink. The fries came out over crispy and over cooked to the point we could not separate them for us to eat. The salads came out next on almost frozen plates (not bad, just cold). Then we waited for our steaks which we ordered mid-rare for both. My steak came out almost well-done and the shrimp were so overcooked that I could bounce them off the table, and the broccoli had no flavor to speak of. My husband's steak came out super thin and was more on the medium temp, so it was a little better. We had to flag down the server to tell her that everything was overcooked, and all we received back was a shoulder shrug and "Oh". My husband offered to pay for his and asked them to take my steak off the ticket. After about fifteen minutes, the server brought us the ticket and asked if there was anything else we needed. We asked for two boxes to take the fries and the broccoli with my husband's steak home. When the server brought the single box over they asked if we were ready to pay. We paid for the food and walked to the front of the restaurant. In the front the staff was playing with a guitar and completely unaware of the fact we were there. My husband interrupted their playing to ask to speak with a manager. We waited an additional 15 minutes to speak with a manger about our experience. The manager responded by saying he was too busy to come meet us at the table and address the situation. He did not offer an additional apology or recognition for our experience. When we were originally seated, we were crammed into a section with all other patrons which took up six tables total (I am not sure what made the manager too busy to correct a bad situation). Our total bill (less my steak) came out to $63.42 for a ribeye steak and sides, cheese fries, and two iced teas. I will not be going back anytime soon, and I would recommend to anyone looking for a good steak house to visit the Texas Roadhouse or Outback Steak House DO NOT go to Ruby River if you want edible food. read more

Old time steakhouse in Reno. Went on a Tuesday night and it was fairly busy. The interior is done in a Western motif. The wife and I both ordered steaks. First let me tell you that we received excellent service from the hostess to the server. Hostess was kind and the server never a drink stay empty long nor did the plates stack up on the table. Great job. The sides were pretty good but I did have a hiccup on one. The "jacketed baked potato" was a surprise and not a good one for me. It is a deep fried baked potato. I guess I should have asked about the jacket. The steaks were very flavorful but a lot on the tough side and they "appeared" to us to be a little on the light side as to weight. Too tough to be "21 day aged" beef. We would normally given three stars but the service side held up and bumped it to four stars. read more

This place gives me the vibe of a Sizzlers and Texas Roadhouse. The decor is a little outdated and could use a remodel. This is the 2nd time that I have eaten here and both experiences have been just okay. The service here is always great, but the food is what lacks. On this occasion, I ordered the Porterhouse steak with a side of asparagus and the iceberg wedge salad. I liked the salad, it had just the right amount of blue cheese crumble to dressing. The asparagus and steak is where it was sub par. The steak was cooked to my liking, a perfect medium rare, but it lacked seasoning. It was very bland and for a porterhouse, it was not juicy. The asparagus could have been cooked longer as the ends were inedible too. Horrible piece of meat. For Christmas I was given two gift cards apparently from Costco for Ruby River steakhouse. We decided tonight to give it a try with really no expectation as neither of us could remember going there for dinner before. There were several parties that had reservations but still our wait time was reasonably short, I believe we were seated within 12-15 minutes of arrival. Our waitress initially was attentive getting our drink order, then appetizer and then our meal order. However, we didn't see much of her after that but again she was also responsible for at least one rather large party. For the appetizer we had deep-fried pickles, this unfortunately was the highlight of the dinner, not pre-made or frozen but fresh quartered pickles battered than fried. The salad was average, our entrée however was horrible, I ordered a 16 ounce ribeye that was approximately 1 1/4 inches thick on one side and just over a quarter inch thick on the other side. It was ordered to be medium rare but on the thin slide it was well done and on the thick side was raw. I did search for an edible bite but the quality of the meet is extremely poor and I believe the worst tasting steak I have ever had. The girlfriend ordered prime rib, medium rare, it was also horrible, resulting in neither of us finishing our entree instead saving it for dog food. read more

The steak here is wonderful and the service is even better.  I visited Ruby River with a group of 6 hungry family members while on vacation and I have to say they serve the best rib-eye in the world.  The salad as the first course was fresh and tasty and the jalapeno popper appetizer I highly recommend.  I had dined here on a trip to Reno back in 2004 and I am pleased to say that the food is still as great as it was back then.  The other members of my group were hesitant to dine here because the unknown when it comes to eating steak can sometimes be scary.  The scary was gone 2 minutes into our dinning experience.  I would highly recommend Ruby River to anyone who wants a memorable dinning experience read more

I visited this steak house 5 months ago and at that time it was marginal at the best. I brought my daughters and there friend for dinner. The waiter was friendly. When the waiter brought our order and i noticed that my order was wrong, i got a bad feeling. I ordered the ribs without sauce. Well. They came with sauce all over the place. I noticed my daughters Filet was patch together. It didn't even look like a Filet. I didnt want to spoil the family visit. The waiter took my plate back for them to fix. My daughter ordered her steak Medium Well, plus brocolli with butter. Well, her steak was between Rare and Medium Rare and her brocolli was plain. Then my other daughter cut her Filet and she wanted Medium rare. Her Filet was purple in the middle. It was beyond Rare. This is 3 out of 4. I was disgusted with how the dinner is turning out. I contacted the Manager and informed him how terrible things are turning out. I was so upset that i couldn't finish my dinner. Again, i didnt want to create a scene. The waiter came back with the bill. He said the manager gave us a discount. It was $20. I've cooked with some of the best Cheffs in the business and this food was a mess. If you call yourself a Steakhouse and you can't even cook your steaks correctly then you need to change your name. They pride themselves for there steaks and how they hand slice there steaks on the premises. The last 3 times i ordered Ribeye steaks I couldn't tell it was a Ribeye. Now my daughter orders a Filet and it looked like it was patched together to look like a piece of meat. When the waiter brought the steaks back to my daughter's i was speechless on how bad it looked. The manager never came back to talk to us. I paid my bill. $104.00. At least the manager should of weighed out how bad things were, before just giving us $20 off. We have our work Christmas Party here annually. I made a reservation for our party months in advance. When the manager, Todd, called to confirm our reservation, I asked if we could have the private tables behind the wall, but he said that room was spoken for already, but he had our tables set in the middle of the dining room. I thought that was okay since they put a few tables end to end for us in that same spot the year prior. When we arrived though, he had us situated at 2 separate tables. How can you have a company Christmas party and be seated in 2 separate rows of tables? When we asked Todd why we couldn't all sit together he was less than accommodating. Rude in fact. When we asked why they didn't save the back room for our large party, where they normally seat us all, he stated the other company called first. And when we reminded him how long we have been coming there, he said the other company has been coming longer. Todd just wanted to argue every point we made and not do anything to appease the situation, no apology, or attempt to care. If they cannot accommodate a party this size, they shouldn't have taken our reservation, and he certainly shouldn't have been so rude. After being there for awhile trying to get the seating arrangement fixed, the party that was in the back room left and our server Justin moved us all to that back room where we were all able to finally sit together and have our meal. We will not be coming back next year, as Todd clearly does not appreciate or care for our patronage.
