NOTE WORTHY: The service is consistently 5 star review worthy. I've been coming here for years. But this last experience... I completely understand how hard it is to find quality employees. The options are to accept what is available and try to train the less that acceptable employee or, let them destroy the restaurants reputation. Which brings me to my recent experience. Waiter asks "what would you like?" I request a Caprese Salad. Waiter says "a what?" I repeat the request and he asks "is it on the menu?" I show him his menu. He then announces he will be back later to see if I want anything else. Oh, Ok I'll order my main course when you are ready. I order my salad and steak. My steak arrives, no salad. Then the salad arrives, waiter says, sorry, the printer broke. WTF? Did you 3D print it? A decision needed to be made, eat the salad I so desperately wanted, or enjoy the steak while it is still hot. Sadly, the salad didn't make the cut. I enjoyed my steak. It was delicious. Back to the service... This waiter walked by my table at least 8 times never once removing my finished plates. Finally, a gentleman, probably a manager, cleared my table of the appetizer and dinner plates. Ruby, is hitting the biggest little city with all the cow boy boots I ever wanted to see! Everyone is so dang friendly, my child was a bit angry he needed to be breastfeed. Looked up steak houses in Reno and this place had fairly good reviews so we decided to try it, we were seated and it was so dark you could barely see. They offered drinks and sourdough bread with butter which was good. My son had a cheese burger with bacon, the patty was flavorless and the bacon tasted old. My other son has chicken Alfredo, not good at all, processed chicken pieces not chicken breast like the menu stated. The little kids had Alfredo pasta which neither ate, it wasn't good. I tried it. Myself and my dad had French onion soup that had a bit of a dirt taste. My dad liked his steak. Came here for dinner with friends during vacation and the wait seemed long but it wasn't too bad. We had a party of 5 for 45 min wait and by the time we got seated it was about 45 mins of waiting. The place gets pretty pack so be sure to come early or call to place yourself on a wait list. The place is like your typical Texas Road House or Cattleman's. Very spacious lots of seating and very warm. The service was very good our server was very attentive and helpful with recommendations. I made the mistake of choosing a sandwich at a steak house so my meal was okay but my fries were SO bomb!. Get the double batter fries you won't regret it. The sample platter was very good though for $15 you choose 3 items you want. We got the browning onion which was very good but quite greasy so after a while you may feel quite sick. The Jalapeño poppers and artichoke dip were SO delicious though you have to try them. All in all my friends enjoyed their dishes and I kinda enjoy my dish. I would come here again to try other dishes if I am in the area but I wouldn't go on a mission to come here. This will now be our go to "steakhouse"... how can I even call it a steakhouse when the prices are so affordable?!! I don't even want to talk about what you get for the price because I don't want them to raise them but WOW the value is unsurpassable!! My husband and I eat in a lot of fine dining restaurants and this truly is comparable to them. Well in food quality. The atmosphere is slightly different and nobody is wiping all the bread crumbs off the table that you spilled while devouring that warm loaf of sourdough ... but anyhow it's like an old western restaurant very casual but oh so good. Let me just get into it -- I went here two weeks in a row and ordered the same thing - 7 oz bacon wrapped filet mignon with two sides. TWO!!! For like 23.00?!?!!?! I won't annoy you with all the exclamation points I'd like to use. Now the first time I have to say my steak was a little rare I ordered medium and it definitely wasn't but it still was yummy I just get concerned about undercooking. The next week is when I brought my husband for the first time and it was PERFECT. The bacon they wrap it adds such a perfect flavor to each bite. The 7 ounce is perfect size for me. They also offer I believe 9 oz and 11 oz going up in price by a couple dollars. My two sides I chose were sautéed mushrooms and if you like mushrooms I highly recommend them!! They were perfectly soft and melted in my mouth with a bite of that filet. My second side was their signature "jacketed baked potato" which is I believe deep fried and topped with butter, sour cream, cheese, bacon, and chives if you prefer. There is no describing this you just need to have it. I almost cleaned my plate both times. Husband ordered the 9 oz sirloin bacon wrapped as well with a Gorgonzola cheese topping and said it was totally worth it for us to drive all the way across town to come to. He also had the jacketed baked potato and ate it all FIRST. His other side was French onion soup which actually came out like an appetizer and he said was very good too. Did I mention the warm sourdough bread oh my. I just wish the butter was a little softer. Our server was a nice young girl I think her name was Jessie that was prompt and helpful but gave us our space to eat which was so nice when you're stuffing your face and not being interrupted. The worst service we've ever had. Sat 15 minutes before the server came. Dinner salads and soups came out at different times and never were offered drinks. Ordered drinks and they didn't come until our very lately served dinner that was cold. Streaks that were ordered medium rare were well done. Medium rare steaks were rare. One would think the steaks were mixed up but they were all differently prepared steaks. We could understand some if they were busy, but they were not near capacity. Today was Mother's Day so we thought it would be good to be early and get a good meal. We were there early to avoid the crowd, before 5. The server was not the best and took time to take our order. When it came time deliver the order, it was wrong. The food was cold, the answer from the people coming to the table was disappointing. They said that it was not their fault. The one order that should have been delivered was not. All other orders are delivered well before this last and what should have been most important. The server cared less about it and did not try to get the order to the table. We got the attention of another server to get the last order to our table which still took too much time. By the time the last meal was delivered to the table, everyone was finished. The last meal Delivered was our Mom's plate. So, when asked about how the meal was, we answered that it was not okay. The server went about his day as if nothing was wrong. When the server asked if we wanted dessert, he wa asked, "Why do we want dessert when you cannot give us our meal as ordered or in time." He walked away. When he returned with the check, he dropped It on the table and walked away. We asked for a manager whom showed up A bit later. He offered a coupon for a later visit. Upon entering we noticed the "old western theme" which continued to the ultra dark dining area where we were seated. No Joke: We removed the lamp shades to view the menu! We also removed the lamp shades again when our dinner arrived, because Its nice to see your food. I ordered the ribs which I wouldn't recommend if you enjoy or know good bbq. On par for all the times we've need to Ruby River, consistency is good and but variety is the spice of life! Going to Ruby River on a weekend night for dinner seldom does not require a wait to be seated and this visit I'd estimate that was about a half hour. A barrel of peanuts sits in the waiting area which keeps you pleasantly occupied while waiting. Seating for two put us, what seems to be our assigned booth, because coincidentally the last few times we've dined at the RR we've been seated at the same booth for two on the perimeter of the bar. It's quite a busy area as you can imagine because those waiting for tables make the area more contested and louder than other seating areas in the restaurant. Next time I'm going to ask not to be seated in that area. The menu at RR is consistent too. Don't be expecting to hear about specials of the day because it ain't happing. But the selections on the menu are quite varied and their signature steaks are really very good! The jacketed yam is also a favorite because it's really good and not available at competitor restaurants. As much as I wanted to order it I didn't because I went for the plain yam to be more in line with my dietary preferences. The salad is a good side dish option which is good with lots of toppings. Also the dinners come with complementary warm sourdough bread with butter, which in my opinion is a meal in itself! Our Server was very good; she was attentive and friendly which are the two basic qualifications we look for in a server - Danielle M. definitely a job well done! Omg....first off I want to apologize to my friends about going here and trying prime rib! This place is just so unorganized and I'm really not going to blame it on the covid19, as I recall my last review for them wasn't good as well! We wanted to meet up and have prime rib (2 out of 3 party) I first ordered a glass of Merlot and that took atleast 18 minutes to arrive and now ready to take our order...very young server named Marcus. We ordered 2 prime rib and 1 rib eye dinner! 15 minutes later our server came and let us know they had run out of prime rib, we need to order something else...we were bummed but went with the ribeye as well! Everything arrived but guess what? No silverware, no S&P no nothing! It took about 8 minutes and we finally received our forks and knives... from there it just kinda became a bad dream... my first guest was ok with her meal as well as my second guest! Mine came out raw as you'll see in the images! The other thing I wanted to add was that those lovely baked potato's must have been from the night before as they kinda just fell apart and weren't the normal jacketed bakes! I was so disappointed as I made this a friend reunion and it was just so disappointing! I will say that I will NOT be back and yes manager we spoke with comped my meal but was disappointed that the manager said they don't do prime rib on Sundays, our server was not told that so total lack of communication on management and training! read more

Their salads are also very fresh, crisp and cold. The salmon with the pico on top is also delicious for a lighter option when we go. Their ribs are always fall off the bone. Ruby is a great example of a steakhouse where you don't have to pay an absurd amount of money for your meal. Prices are reasonable and portions are generous. I usually walk out with a food comma. RESTAURANT: This amazing restaurant is located on Virginia Street, across from the Peppermill Hotel. The decoration and the inside suggest a cowboy/rodeo style. It's a little more casual than other steakhouses but the quality of the food can easily compete with the most expensive steakhouses in town. Lots of rodeo pictures on the walls, cowboy boots and buckets with peanuts are part of the decoration. Good size restaurant, with option of seating at the bar, table, booth and private room (upon request). FOOD: The food at Ruby River is just amazing!! Everything here is delicious! You can always judge a place by the fresh baked bread they bring, Ruby's SOURDOUGH is just incredible. They have a big selection of appetizers but my fave are the "coconut shrimps." Here are some of my favorite choices for entrees: -Bacon Wrapped Filet mignon! I like it medium rare, juicy and flavorful. Sooo tender! -Prime Rib, cooked to perfection. -12 oz. Ribeye, marbled steak with incredible flavor. -Steak Oscar, great option if you want to try something different. The topping with crab is delicious! -Parmesan Halibut, when I'm not in the mood for steak, I'm in the mood for seafood. This halibut it's super filling and tastes great! The entrees come with two sides, so I normally get a salad, house salad with blue cheese! Omg! I crave this salad. They put eggs, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, onions and croutons in the salad! The plate is chilled so the salad feels super fresh! For my second side, I normally get a jacketed baked potato, which is served with sour cream, green onion, butter and bacon! Yummm! Other times I feel more like a yam, mmmm they give you cinnamon butter to put on it! Delish!! They also have healthier sides, like broccoli, asparagus, and sauté mushrooms. It is impossible (al least for me) to come here and not have a "RUBY-RITA," similar to a margarita but stronger and with some sweet juice, cheers! They all work together to give you the best experience! I've had JOSH, several times and he is always on point. He does such a great job managing the big crows that suddenly arrive here. 1st time here. We had reservations. We arrived and was told to washout outside until our table was ready. About 15 minutes later we were escorted there. We ordered the calamari. They were good but I've had better. There were 6 of us. All our dinners were good except the prime rib. He asked for medium but was served a medium rare that could have actually been rare. It had a lot of fat. The server should have come back to let him know they didn't have medium but he ate what he could. All the desserts were amazing.
