Shrimp tacos and sides
Nancy N.

We ordered from Rubio's Coastal Grill -home of the original fish taco for Fish Friday on Good Friday and had a good experience. Ordering online was super easy, and the website made it simple to customize everything just how we wanted. I had the Mexican Street Corn Shrimp Tacos, which came with two sides. There were plenty of options to choose from--I went with Mexican rice and Mexican corn. My husband ordered the blackened Mahi-Mahi burrito. We also added chips and salsa, and they offer several different salsa varieties, which was a nice touch. Everything in our order was exactly right when we picked it up. Both meals were really tasty, and the portions were just the right size--not too much, but definitely satisfying. We'll definitely be ordering again!

Rubio's has been my go-to lately for a quick, healthy-ish dinner! This location is the closest to me and is conveniently located in the Gilbert Gateway Towne Center. There's plenty of parking, but it's shared by multiple businesses, so it might not be readily accessible during peak times. My first visit at this location was a Friday evening so they were naturally very busy. Most of the tables were occupied and the wait was longer than usual. We didn't mind. Most of the bowls change seasonally. At the time of my visit, I ordered one of their shrimp bowls. It had corn, beans, rice, avocado or guac, and other ingredients. My husband ordered a shrimp burrito. Our order was ready in maybe 25-20 minutes. Excited, we started eating it in the car before even leaving our parking spot. It was delicious and filling. At one of my recent visits, I ordered the Mexican street corn bowl which is still available right now. It comes with choice of grilled chicken, steak, or seafood atop citrus rice and lettuce blend, guacamole, roasted corn blend, black beans, cilantro/onion blend, cotija cheese, chipotle lime crema, salsa verde, and tajin®. I opted for shrimp for my protein. Once again, it was flavorful and filling. I enjoyed it so much I ordered it again two weeks later!

I recently visited Rubio's for a casual dinner, and overall, it was a solid experience that I'd rate 4 stars. The service was friendly and attentive--our server was quick to take our order and checked in just the right amount without being intrusive. The atmosphere had that laid-back coastal vibe with clean seating and a relaxed crowd, making it a nice spot to unwind. The only minor hiccup was that the food took a bit longer than expected to arrive, maybe about 10-15 minutes extra during a moderate rush. But once it came, the fish tacos and shrimp burrito were fresh, flavorful, and hit the spot with their signature Baja-style seasoning. Prices are reasonable too. I'd definitely go back for a quick bite!

Disappointing tortilla chips. The picture doesn't show how many tiny little pieces of chips there were on the plate.

We went to Rubio's coastal grill last night for dinner. Typically one of the best fish tacos you will ever find. I will say it was packed inside. They were extremely busy. I was okay with waiting because the people working at the front counter were extremely nice and you could tell they were swamped. There did seem to be a very long gap in time between orders coming out though. When we finally did get our fish tacos I was disappointed. They weren't hot. The fish was almost room temperature. I can't understand why the food wouldn't be hot after waiting so long to get it. The tortilla chips were a disappointment too. Way too many crumbs. Have some pride and some quality control before you send food out to customers. Those chips were not acceptable at all. The fish wasn't warm. This shouldn't be so difficult.

Black burned Mahi Mahi taco. I think they tried to hide it being burned by pouring excessive sauce on it.

I've read that Rubios has been struggling financially. They emailed me a $5 off coupon so I went. I got the Coastal Trio: Original Fish Taco * Salsa Verde Shrimp Taco * Mahi Mahi Taco. The Mahi Mahi taco fish looked like it was burned. It was. I rarely send food back so I forced myself to eat it. Part of the reason I didn't hassle returning it was because when I arrived there was no one at the register. He had gone to the bathroom and no one else could help me. The Salsa Verde Shrimp taco was nothing special. The original fish taco was fine. In all my times at Rubios, this was the worst.

Onions I requested NOT to be put on my tacos

This was my second, and last, visit to this Rubio's location. The first time ordering went smoothly, but the restaurant itself was a bit grimy overall. This time, it took a while to order, and then we sat down to wait for our food. We ordered about 6:20. I had to be someplace close by at 7. When we sat down, I noticed the tables and the floors were sticky. I tried to wipe the table and it was a dark, sticky dirt that came off, like the table hadn't been really cleaned in weeks. The people at the table next to us informed us that they had been waiting for 25 minutes already. By 6:55 we still did not have our food so I had to leave without eating. The food came out about five minutes after I left. My husband ate his burrito and boxed my tacos and brought them home for me. We love Rubio's, but due to poor management and the level of uncleanliness, we will not go to that location again. Oh, and the picture is of the onions I asked them not to put on my tacos.

Jon M.

I have really liked all the Rubios I've been to and this one was also excellent. The fish tacos were the best I've had in years. The salsas were especially fresh, thick and tasty as well as the guac-thick, fresh and creamy. Service by Manager Jacob and staff was fast and professional.

Once again...a meal that was fantastic, fresh, and well cooked. Wife had an Amaretto Sour, which is made with Disaronno and she loves that drink, saying it's well balanced and she likes that they don't use the egg foam on top. She also ordered off the Crabby Hour menu some scallops on the half shell and some roasted brussels sprouts. This place knows how to roast spouts so that they are tender and toasted and not overdone. So yummy! The scallops are served with a light ponzu sauce drizzled over which complimented the tender scallops. Delicious! From the Restaurant Week menu, I chose the crab & Artichoke dip which we love and it isn't typically on their menu. It was so good and I had to ask for some extra toast points because there was so much dip! I also got the stripped bass, which was cooked to perfection although a smaller portion than the one you get from the regular menu. They do bass right! And for dessert, chose the Pumpkin Pot de Creme, which was my first taste of pumpkin for the season. Creamy and so good although I took off most of the whip cream because it was a lot. Overall another wonderful meal at our favorite fish restaurant!

Her response was "Can't you see it honey?" her condescending attitude made for what should have been and enjoyable evening very unenjoyable.

A Hidden Gem You NEED to Try - Don't Let This Place Stay a Secret!…read moreI've been to Sage & Barrel Craft Eatery a few times now, and every visit leaves me wondering why this place isn't packed every single night. We stopped in on a Monday evening and had the whole vibe almost to ourselves--such a shame because this spot is seriously awesome and deserves a full house! The atmosphere is so vibey--warm, inviting, perfectly lit with that perfect mix of casual and upscale that makes you want to settle in and stay awhile. It feels special without being stuffy, great for date nights, family dinners, or just unwinding with friends over craft beers (their selection is impressive--40+ local options with plenty on tap). But the real star? The food. Everything is scratch-made with fresh, high-quality ingredients, and you can taste the care in every bite. Deeply flavorful, innovative twists on classics, generous portions, and consistently excellent. Whether you go for the Nashville hot chicken and waffles, fish & chips, burgers, or whatever catches your eye, it's all done right. No frozen junk here--just real, delicious food that keeps you coming back. Queen Creek (and the East Valley) needs more places like this. Support local, support quality, and help keep this gem thriving so it doesn't disappear. We'll definitely be back--next time on a busier night so more people can discover it! If you're in the area, do yourself a favor and go. Tell your friends. Mondays (and every night) deserve Sage & Barrel. You won't regret it.

There was no smile, greeting, or sense that we were happy to be there. Our server was very nice personally, but the service was incredibly disorganized. What made it even more frustrating was that she only had two tables, and the restaurant was not busy. My husband's meal never came out, and she did not even notice that he was still waiting for it. While we were waiting for his food, she brought us a drink we had never ordered. She also filled my kids' lemonades with water. The food was just as disappointing. The salmon was extremely dry and hard, and the pasta noodles my kids ordered were hard as well. After waiting and realizing my husband's meal was never coming, we asked for the bill. At that point, our server actually asked if my husband was ready to order... even though he had already ordered and had been waiting for his meal the entire time. Our bill ended up being high, which made the experience even more frustrating because we spent that much money and left feeling like we received essentially nothing worth coming back for. We all left hungry. Mistakes happen, but this was not one small mistake. It was a series of issues with the service, drinks, food, and basic attentiveness, especially considering the restaurant was not busy. For the amount we paid, we expected a completely different experience. Unfortunately, we will not be back.

The Cobb salad was created in 1937 at The Brown Derby restaurant in Hollywood, California. One story says he finely chopped the ingredients for theater owner Sid Grauman, who had dental work and could not chew. Love me a Cobb salad. Is it healthy by any means? No! It has bacon, eggs, and blue cheese. It's one of the higher caloric salads you can get but it doesn't make it any less tasty. On a Tuesday night, sometimes you just want tasty. I ordered a simple cobb salad with chicken and that's what I got. I can argue that the Cobb salad didn't need the bacon and I would have been happier with more avocado but I guess that wouldn't make it a Cobb salad anymore. I trust Robert "Bob" Cobb. Even though we weren't the only one's waiting as there was plenty others waiting outside for their meals too, it took them like 20 mins to get our food ready so we can leave. While it was still warm and flavorful, it was not good with how long it took to get our food. I understand that it is hard when you're low on staff or can only make so much at once.
