Sturgeon caviar and porcini donuts
Eric L.

Amazing service and excellent food from the formerly-Michelin-started team at one of SF's best restaurants. This casual next-door neighbor to Rich Table has the same classic California cuisine vibe as its celebrated siblings, but at a substantially more affordable price point. Highlights included a lot of the popular RT dishes, but the entrees were also wonderful. A difficult reservation worth the effort.

RT Bistro has very hospitable folks working there...from the gentleman who greeted and sat us to our server, if i recall correctly was Loralie. My wife enjoyed a couple glasses of red wine and we ordered the tempura sweet potatoes and sourdough bread as starters. The bread was very good. We weren't a fan of the tempura dish. I had a juicy $30 burger that came with steak cut fries. We look forward to experiencing more restaurants in this neighborhood:)

I recently had dinner here & it was a great experience. It is a small restaurant but beautifully decorated with a lot of wood accents including chopped wood below the seating area. There is a large art installation on the wall which is pretty cool too. Everything was delicious but the porcini donuts with caviar on the side was the favorite. My clam pot pie was not heavy either so there's room for dessert, which was like a peach cobbler which was perfect & wasn't too sweet. Service was warm & helpful.

RT Bistro was worth the hefty price tag! We'd made a Tuesday night dinner reservation in advance. Our large party was seated outside in the (dog-friendly) parklet, which was basic and cozy. Parties over a certain size are required to get the family-style menu, which worked out well for us. Drink prices were pretty expensive, but I liked that they offered half-glasses of wine. I opted for a chilled red (the Monkey Jacket), which I really enjoyed. The first course consisted of the RT Bistro Salad (kind of forgettable), Cucumber "Caesar" (very nice and unique), and Sweet Potato Tempura (loved this one). Next up, we got the Kanpachi Crudo, which was one of my favorite items of the night - such a nice flavor combination with the strawberries! The Salmon Collar was a little less my speed, but still tasty. However, the entrees really stole the show! The One Layer Lasagna was phenomenal with its cheesy corn kernels. The Duck Confit was out of this world, especially combined with the Honey Koshihikari Rice. One of the best duck preparations I've had in a while! We also loved the Burger add-on and the Summer Squash. For dessert, we truly couldn't pick a favorite between the Chocolate Cake and Ice Box Pie. Both were insane! Service was seamless and professional throughout. Overall, this was definitely a pricier dinner, but I'd say it was worth the splurge. We all left full and very happy!

Trio of desserts - we liked the Ice Box Pie (top) the most!

RT Bistro in Hayes Valley is the perfect spot for a hearty meal with delicious summer cocktails. The go-to appetizers to order are the crudo and the sweet potato tempura, both featuring Asian inspired sauces. I had the burger, which was rich and juicy with a side of perfectly crisp fries. The pot pie with sweet Chinese sausages is another great choice. When it comes to drinks, the tomato cocktail and milk punch are must orders! Complete with a parklet that has multiple covered tables, it's a great way to get some fresh air and sun before Karl makes it too cold for outdoor dining! Kampachi crudo

Came on a Saturday night and enjoyed our time at RT Bistro! Our server was amazing, full of energy and checked in on us multiple times throughout our meal. We ordered the kampachi crudo, duck confit, RT burger, and chocolate cake. Everything was good, but the RT burger was a bit soggy on the bottom. Our server had said it would be medium rare, but the juices had overflowed and the bottom bun was completely wet. I was a bit disappointed with this as I love a good burger. The crudo was definitely the standout of the meal and was a great summer dish, as it was topped with edible flowers and strawberries. If I came back, I'd skip the burger and order something else. We opted for outdoor seating as this was the only reservation we could get this night, but thankfully there were outdoor heating lamps so we stayed nice and warm on a windy evening.

Aged beef dumplings with french onion vinaigrette

I'm a fan of Rich Table, so I was excited to try RT Bistro, and overall the food was delicious. We sat outside on a beautiful day, and they have heaters, so it was very comfortable. We arrived a little early, and even though I wasn't there yet, they seated my friend and let her order a drink while she waited. We got: - Kanpachi crudo: Very fresh fish. It was good, but there are so many other things on the menu that sound worth trying that I'd probably skip this next time. I thought it could have used just a touch more "pop" and probably some texture - Aged beef dumplings with French onion vinaigrette: I used to order the frozen beef dumplings with chili crisp during the pandemic when Rich Table sold them, and I still usually order them when I go to RT. I was excited to see them here with a twist--French onion vinaigrette instead of chili crisp. They were good, but I much prefer the chili crisp version and would probably skip these next time - One-layer lasagna with corn miso béchamel, shishitos, corn, and TomaRashi cheese: Our server described this as a mix between Mexican street corn (elote/esquites) and Korean corn cheese. Personally, I didn't quite see either comparison, but it was tasty. It did feel slightly one-note but I still liked it. Apparently they're planning to keep the one-layer lasagna concept on the menu and rotate the ingredients seasonally - RT Bistro Burger with triple cooked fries: The burger is a solid burger, but the fries are amazing, so crispy and packed with flavor. Is it a $30 burger? I mean, probably not, but I'm pretty sure the milk bread like bun is homemade, and we enjoyed it. The fries definitely stole the show for me. - Duck breast with plum sweet and sour and Koshihikari rice: The duck was perfectly cooked, and I really enjoyed it. I thought the rice was just alright, but my friend really liked it. - Chocolate cake: Pretty good, but certainly not my favorite chocolate cake. They also brought out an off-menu (?) cookie with a candle for my birthday, which was nice. I do think the dessert options here sounded way better than the Rich Table dessert options lol. Overall, the meal came out to about $100/person before tip for all of the food above plus one cocktail. For me, it was close to 5 stars but not quite there. I especially enjoyed the duck and how perfectly it was cooked, and I liked the burger but particularly loved the fries. The one-layer lasagna was also pretty good. Nothing was bad, but nothing quite crossed into exceptional territory enough for me to give it a perfect rating. With several dishes, I felt like they were close to excellent but just needed a little something more to get there. I would definitely come back, though, and there are a few dishes I'd happily order again. Service was excellent, and our waiter coursed everything out for us without us even having to ask. He offered to do so and checked that we were okay with it, which I appreciated. If you're coming with other people, I'd recommend ordering a bunch of things and sharing. That's what the restaurant suggested too, even though the menu is organized more traditionally into appetizers and mains. I'm a fan overall and it's a good addition to the SF food scene.

Little "goodies", ice box pie peach crumble with cream, and chocolate cake with ice cream
Michael F.

Probably a 4+ stars for me. Very good food, and a fun, casual atmosphere with great attentive service. Note: We had a party of 6 and didn't realize until we were seated that parties of 5 or more must all have the prix fixe meal. For me, that's not a problem since I really enjoy trying as many new dishes as I can when dining at a new establishment. There are 3 courses with an assortment of dishes of which many are influenced by Asian cuisine. For the first courses, the sweet potato tempura starter was clearly inspired by the Chinese honey walnut prawns dish and a delicious unique way to have sweet potatoes. The Kanpachi crudo was also very tasty with a little red chili to give it a little kick. I also enjoyed the Thorn to be Wild cocktail with gin, very refreshing blackberry, lemon and honey for balance of sweetness and citrus. For the main second courses, the standouts for me were the duck breast and hamburger add on. I also liked the crispy clay pot rice with a dash of plum sauce that accompanied the duck, and the summer squash surprised me with the smokiness that reminded me of bacon!! For dessert, the chocolate cake with ice cream was my favorite. Although nothing wrong with the peach crumble or the complimentary chocolate birthday cookie they served me!! Definitely a solid new addition to the San Francisco dining scene by the Rich Table team! Congratulations!

Aged Beef Dumpling

This is one of the best new restaurants of 2026 for me. I expected a lot from this team - I love both Rich Table and RT Rotisserie. I was lucky enough to get an early Friday dinner reservation here. It wasn't my first time but I feel like we ordered all of the best bites. We started off with oysters, aged beef dumplings, kanpachi collar, kanpachi crudo and the summer squash. These were all great small bites and appetizers and I highly recommend the kanpachi collar. Next came with the salad, one layer lasagna, duck confit and burger. The duck confit is a must order and it came with my favorite koshihikari rice. For dessert, we split the chocolate cake. The food was excellent. Service was very good - attentive but not fussy. They have both indoor and outdoor space. We were indoor and the space was tight but cozy. With tax and tip, this was about $120 per person - it's a great value these day. Highly, highly recommended!!!

Such a cute spot and it did not disappoint. The heated patio was the move on a perfect SF night. Started with the beef dumplings in a French onion vinaigrette. AMAZING. Followed by sweet potatoes tempura, the walnuts were a lovely touch. Mains of RT burger and lasagna. Burger was perfect but don't sleep on the lasagna. Great service! We will be back!

Awesome food and service is always excellent. Menu occasional updated for the latest seasonal ingredients so make sure to go back! Burger is exceptional, busy but not too loud with fun ambiance and outdoor seating. Make sure to get a reservation as long waits, especially Thursday - Saturday.

Came for the burger and they did not disappoint! The service was great and friendly. Since all three of us were ordering the same thing the server tried to suggest one of us order something else just to try other things on the menu, but we only had one thing on the mind..BURGER! The burger was delicious from start to finish. The fries were perfectly crispy. Maybe next time we visit we will try something else, but wouldn't be mad if just ended up getting the same delicious thing again.

Sylvia S.

I didn't have super high expectations given the mixed reviews but it was great! Every thing was tasty, from the strawberry drink to the clam pot pie.. weird idea, but it worked! Oyster- very refreshing Caviar with doughnuts- honestly I don't think the caviar adds much here. The donuts are so rich and tasty already. I prefer the donut only version Crudo- very nice, very great flavors Truffle egg- super not worth it. One small bite and it was like a cold cream Burger- was delicious, as expected Clam pot pie- wow! Asian flavors, almost like a creamy curry Chocolate cake- a bit sweet but well constructed, very soft

Does RT Bistro have outdoor heaters?

They absolutely do have outside heaters! There are at least 2 heaters per table for both you and your guest(s). They even have a QR code on them so you can control how high your heat is! The outside parklet is actually really comfy and cute!

Personally, I found the first two drinks to be a bit too sweet, but I liked the third, which was coconut forward. The price is definitely a bit more costly. It was $100/person for a party of five. I understand that it was an escape room + the staff + the cocktails. If you max out the party size, it's about $85-ish per person which I think is pretty solid. Still very unique and fun and glad I got to try it

This place has so much going on. It makes it ideal for so many different things. Hot day? Want to bring your doggie?? They have an airy patio and a bunch of cute tables out front. Need a cool place for a dinner date? There's tables inside. Have a group? Also not a problem. Feeling peckish and just need to get out of the house? Go sit at the bar, order a beer, and watch the game. Make sure to order the thrasher fries with malt vinegar salt and pepper and Dijon and black pepper aïoli. It is truly as delectable as it sounds, and by far my favorite thing there! That being said, I am a french fry aficionado. We also tried the coconut chicken sandwich which I found to be a bit different than a lot of standard fried chicken sandwiches. I did ask for the chili sauce on the side because I don't like it to be too sweet. Boyfriend loved it with the chili sauce. I liked it without. I did order a side of aïoli. Another thing I found really nice was that they use the chicken thigh rather than the breast. Most of the fried chicken sandwiches I've had use the breast and this was a very nice change. The chicken was juicy and the sandwich was super tasty. They offer all sorts of tasty delights, like fish tacos, mochicko chicken bites, mac & cheese with or without bacon and crab! Yum. If I was to make one recommendation, it would be to add another salad to the menu. Your menu offers a wonderful variety of delicious treats that are on the richer and heavier side so having another option for something on the lighter side would be fantastic. The service here was outstanding. We came early on a Tuesday, and the bartender was great. She was very helpful and excellent at her craft. The other staff members were equally friendly and so welcoming. We don't get out as much as we'd like to anymore because we have a little one so it was awesome to go out and be treated with such kindness and great hospitality. Something was really off with the timing and service. First of all, we arrive at 6:30 pm, along with maybe 6 other groups who also have reservations. There is one hostess who checks everyone's IDs and it takes like 5 mins per party to get seated so this takes about 15 minutes before we can even sit down (with a reservation). It was a really weird and not well thought out beginning with everyone crowding into the lobby. Why don't they have more hostesses, or someone else checking IDs, or just move more quickly, or have staggered seating times? The chicken wings were absolutely delicious but it's so weird they don't give you a towel or wet wipes afterward for your sticky hands (I read the chronicle review and apparently they used to do this so not sure why not any more). Then we asked them to send the burger after our donburi and wings and there was a very long wait in between so they were really not on top of things. It feels like they have Michelin aspirations and it's so beautiful and showy, and the food was truly delicious. The service was polite. But it's expensive ($250 for two people with drinks but sharing 3 small dishes), and the timing and initial wait to sit was extremely off putting. I own a bar and wouldn't want my guests having this experience. Edited to add that my husband was appalled at the wasteful amount of cheese that is poured onto the burger plate.... It's delicious but no way anyone is eating that much cheese and it's not something you're going to take home. Now, this is more of his thing but I see what he means. The sizzling plate could be smaller and have less food waste (also better for the restaurants profits!).
