5 stars for the Happy Hour and the fact that it's the same owner as renowned Acquerello! I walk and run by here pretty often, but didn't go in until recently. I would take pictures of their sign outside that said $1 oysters at Happy Hour (max 6 per person.) They were seasoned tastefully and well. We didn't have a plan this Friday night for food--we just thought "Happy Hour" and see how we feel. We were vibing after the oysters and a half-off bottle of wine and enjoying the bar, vibe, service, and ambiance so much, we decided to stay for dinner! We added on the - Calamari fritti ($24, $15 @ happy hour) - CHARRED ROMAINE 'CAESAR STYLE' Meyer lemon, anchovy 24-month Parmigiano Reggiano $17 - Lobster lasagna (lobster, prawns, salsa rossa) $37 I wanted a vegetable and liked the lemon in the caesar style romaine--it was like an upscale, unique caesar salad. The calamari was crispy and solid, more of a subdued flavor than most calamari apps. I cannot recommend the lobster lasagna enough. It was rich, flavorful, had good sauce, and they were generous with the lobster portion. It didn't look large but it was filling. Had a solid dining experience at Sorella! Came here to celebrate my husband's birthday. The ambiance is a nice casual, with some tables even having smaller children. We had a reservation at 6:15PM and arrived a bit earlier, hoping to get a spot at the bar for some happy hour bites. There were spots and we got to order a few items - namely the oysters, arancini, and anchovy toast. You can't beat the oysters here for $1 each - solid size, and sweet and fresh! The anchovy toast was also full of flavor and incredibly tasty. We got seated at our actual table afterwards. Service the entire night was great! Our waters were constantly refilled. Our waitress Sarah was kind and sweet. Here's what we ordered - - Stuffed calamari - Solid dish, the butter beans were so crispy and good! - Charred romaine - This had good char flavor, just a massive dish! - Drunken mafaldine - Tender beef and the noodles had a unique texture, but the flavor was disappointing. Lacked salt and was bland. - Lobster lasagna - Tasty and would recommend! Generous with the lobster and had a flavorful sauce. - Petrale sole - Probably my favorite dish of the night! Crispy fish with a nice white wine butter sauce. Dessert: - Tiramisu - we heard good things about this. It was nicely presented, but it was too dense for my liking. - Warm citrus cake - was recommended by our waitress and was so good! A balanced dessert and paired well with gelato. My friend's cocktails were a bit of a miss for them too but they ordered from the menu. The food was great! The focaccia, the brussels sprouts and all of our pastas. We cleared every plate! Passed this place so many times finally checked it out. Oysters Drew us in for happy hour and they were lightly seasoned and so good! Then when with the lobster lasagna, budino, anchovy crostini, and tartare. The lasagna was different than your typical lasagna and it almost tasted like a crab texture inside. This is my third visit to Sorella, and I was so blown away I decided to write a second review! from the moment I stepped in the door, I was overwhelmed by a sense of sincere friendliness and care. The host was so sweet, and didn't hesitate to lay out our seating options for the night. We opted to sit at the bar, since we initially came for a glass of wine. Parker and Rochelle were the kindest bartenders ever. Despite feeling underdressed, they made us feel extremely welcomed. We ended up trying two pastas, both were fabulous. I can't wait to have their seasonal pumpkin caramelle again. It was so good, we had to order their housemade foccaia to soak up the sauce. The cocktails beautifully mirrored the newly strung christmas decorations. It truly felt like a break from reality. I plan on coming again soon. Huge thank you to Brandon and Chef Fernanda Baggio for the warm, exceptional hospitality. We started with fresh, briny oysters that had a clean, crisp finish and set the tone for the night. The meatballs were incredibly moist and flavorful, while the stuffed calamari was tender, beautifully seasoned, and one of the quiet highlights of the meal. The pastas are where Sorella really shines. The yellow sweet corn agnolotti was bright, silky, and naturally sweet. The kabocha and butternut squash pasta arrived glazed in brown butter and balsamic with Grana Padano that is rich, comforting, and wonderfully balanced. The potato gnocchi with duck bolognese was pure comfort food, with pillowy gnocchi soaking up every bit of the deep, savory sauce. Initially the service wasn't amazing from the hostess, she gave us some attitude and seemed annoyed since we wanted to sit at the bar to enjoy a bit of happy hour before sitting down. But the rest of the staff, including the bartender were nice and very helpful. Cocktail menu - they have a delicious house spritz and their espresso martini is absolutely peak! I do notice from separate visits it tastes a bit different depending on who makes your drink. It would be nice to have some more consistency there. I'd advise against the risotto martini. Although I am in love with the concept, it doesn't give risotto at all. It tastes like a regular dry martini with some additional herbal notes. For HH you can get 50% off for wine, so definitely a recommended spot if you're looking for something cheaper! They also have the most incredible HH $1 oysters. You'll have to be quick though! It's until they sell out and their selection is limited. All the dishes are absolutely delicious AND stunning. The best lobster lasagna I've had. Their sauce was unctuous and had a perfect amount of acidity to match the richness. The pork was incredibly moist and flavorful, great for sharing with the table. The pasta dishes are all stellar, I'd recommend the beef cheeks and stuffed pasta. For dessert, the tiramisu was my favorite. The affogato is a good second if you haven't already had 1 too many espresso martinis. Came here for a family member's bridal shower and our experience was great! We ordered the focaccia and warm Parmesan budino for appetizers but they were a bit disappointing. The focaccia was okay; it wasn't that flavorful and was a bit too light for me. The parmesan budino was such a tiny portion for $20 and the chips were so thin and barely tasted like anything. The mains were better. We got the potato gnocchi and the lobster lasagna and both were tasty. I wish the gnocchi portion was bigger and was filled with something inside as it tasted a bit plain and there wasn't enough duck in the dish but the duck bolognese sauce was light and refreshing. The lobster lasagna was my favorite dish as the sauce was so creamy and thick and you could taste the lobster in every bite. It is very rare that I feel completely at a loss at what to order, but Sorella's current entire menu sounds incredible. I am already itching to got back and try out what we missed, especially in the appetizers. I felt the most food envy ever as I saw the carne crudo coming out of the kitchen. We started with the stuffed squid which were filled with scallops and shrimp. This was a perfect bite - especially when accompanied by crispy roasted butter beans. Give me like 20 of these guys and I'd be happy as a clam. The lobster lasagne was so unique and sumptuous. The creamy layers of seafood with a crispy pasta top was to die for. The servers were actually so patient with us because we sat down at a table and wanted to get HH oysters. They said HH deals don't apply to the normal dining area. So we moved and they accommodated us at the low counter table. Everyone there was seriously so nice and easy to joke around with, especially on a chill Friday night. Delicious Italian restaurant! I loved my meal and am excited to come back. The ingredients are very fresh, and the dishes are well-executed. You can make reservations in advance on Resy if you want. They were cooked perfectly, and the date algrodolce and pistachio complimented the carrots so well. I also liked that they didn't feel heavy. - corn agnolotti (6/5): this dish is great. I admit, I do really like corn. The pasta was cooked perfectly, the corn was fresh, the seasonings were spot on, and the textures were wonderful. One of the best pasta dishes I've had. - pea caramelle (4.5/5): I think the corn agnolotti set a really high bar that would be difficult to match for me. This dish was also delicious, and my friend actually preferred it to the corn agnolotti. Food: pasta was definitely overcooked and not al dente. While the sauce was good, it's disappointing to eat overcooked pasta. Our table got 4 different pasta to try. - Foccacia: worst I've ever had. - Parmesan budino: probably top dish of the night. Crispy garlic and vinegrette were good. - Chestnut & pumpkin tortelli: sauce was good but pasta was overcooked - Gnocchi: soft, pillowy. Good duck bolognese - Mafadine: tasted strange, not very appetizing. Beef was good though - Timbalo: not very memorable - Salmon w lentil ragu: forgettable Desserts were very disappointing. Dense olive oil cake. Tiramisu was traditional and needed more coffee flavor. The ratio of genoise vs mascapone cheese wasn't right. Service was average. Our waitress didn't even remember what was on the dish. Serving spoons were left one one end and the dishes were on the other... We left unsatisfied but all agreed we wouldn't want to go back. SF's got some wonderful resto's, but it feels like a deficit of mid-upscale haunts where there's a good enough menu and a solid enough bar program that you could realistically go frequently and never leave disappointed. Don Angie's slightlyyyyy more casual SF counterpart. The olives ascolana-styled were 8/10, oysters were delicious, and their cocktail menu was on point. They have about 15 bartenders named "Jason" (sincere), and they're all good. Fav drink was either the Amari flight experience, or Nonna's spritz. We booked a reservation a week in advance on OpenTable - luckily, as it was OSL weekend! My husband and I came with friends on a Friday night and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The interior design of Sorella is beautiful, and the ambiance was perfect. We started with the Shigoku Oysters, Potato Leek Focaccia, and Grilled Octopus--all of which were amazing. For the main course, I had the Drunken Malfadine, and my husband chose the Lamb Rigatoni. The braised beef in my dish was incredibly tender, melting in our mouths. What went well....everything. The front door service in a driving rain was above and beyond. I let people out at the door so I could park and when I arrived two different concierges knew where my group was sitting and showed me to my table. Table service equally as good as Acquerello-present but not forced. The food was incredible. Wish I took pictures and could give details but I was so locked into the moment I could care less. But have to share one thing. Giancarlo, who I thought was the GM, and in fact was the owner ran the floor in a way I am not sure I have seen an owner work in a place of this level. Unreal how he saw the floor, had the love of his people, and just made everyone's experience incredible. Perfect example-we had almost finished our mains and I ordered a bottle of wine. Told him my price point and bring me the best he has. Wine was on point and then I joked and said I wished my food was not almost gone to enjoy the wine. 5 minutes later he brings a dish of pasta in small plates for each dish of us to have with our wine. I am not lying. I have traveled the world, and it is tough to compare the street food of Vietnam with the linens of a 3 starred restaurant but my night was incredible. Thank you Sorella. read more
