Royaltea - Brulee BoBo (XL) drink
Mike H.

Be treated like royalty at Royaltea. I visited upon store opening and enjoyed a pleasant & swift ordering experience. First time trying this bubble tea chain that's expanded here from Asia. I visited the pleasant Chinatown location, now among its 6 current GTA shops. They offer various fruit teas and bear /lightbulb bottles. I was hooked by the brown sugar Brûlée BoBo in XL size! The extra tall drink (1L) contains a perfect amount of bouncy brown sugar boba, cream and a crisp brûlée layer on top. Completely filled my thirst for bubble tea. Pro-tip that I learned, this drink is mainly milk. But if you want true milk tea, order with Roasted Oolong from the hidden menu for a completely different taste next time!

After seeing a photo of their bear bottles on social media, my friend and I decided we'd come to treat ourselves to something cute and ~unique~. To be honest, the bottles are REALLY cute and the plastic material is really high quality. We ordered the earl grey milk tea with pearls in the bear bottle and the drink itself is pretty good. We changed the sweetness level to 50% and the ice level to 0 (it was super cold outside). The boba was soft and sweet and the tea was really tasty. Although, the drink itself was nothing special, the packaging is what made it really exciting. On another note, the straws they gave us weren't long enough to reach the bottom of the bottle, so we had to pour our drinks into a cup once we got home. Other than that, we had a great experience and I'd be back again to try other flavors in regular cups.

Really nice staff that helped to take my order. The bear glass drink was too cute to pass up. Boba pearls were yummy and tasted like perfection. Drink sweetness could have been a little more but overall solid bubble tea spot!

Bobo tea and Kumquat Tea

It's a cute place with good seating chairs and table available if you want to eat some snacks along with your drinks. They have good selection of drinks but I wish they have bigger fonts for the menu. Clean bathroom. Ok staff interaction. We ordered 7 drinks total with tapiocas but only came out with 5. We had to let the server know she's missing drinks, she insisted those were all our order until she looked at the ticket. She charged 6 drinks so we are still missing one drink, but over all missing 2 since she didn't get all 7 in. At least one of the drink is missing Tapioca pearl which was ordered. We couldn't understand what's written on the receipt because it's all in Chinese character, so there was no way we could further complain and waste time. The place wasn't even busy at all on a weekday morning. There were only 2 customers sitting inside and we were next. Couple customers followed after us. She made their drinks ahead before making our 6th cup. Shortly after there were 2 guys towards the later part. We ended up ordering another cup to complete our 7 drinks (4 bobo drink, strawberry and mango mousse, kumquat tea) order. I'm still giving a 4 star because the drinks we got all tasted good. Although I had the Kumquat tea, I had tasted the other drink as well and I would recomend the Bobo drink!

Pretty good here! 3.5 stars! The menu is a little intimidating at first sight - my friend and I took about 5 minutes just staring at it while the cashier just waited. We both decided to just get a milk tea and save the experimenting for another time. We ordered an oolong black milk tea and an oreo milk tea. They were both pretty good. The oolong black tea was very strong in the drink which I didn't like at first but I grew to like it real quick. The oreo milk tea was also yummy but not as good as other places that serve it. The place has options to serve their drinks in cool containers - light bulb, the super tall drink cup, and a bear.. Definitely something different from other places. Based off the pictures, I honestly thought this place would be larger inside - it's quaint with a few tables. There's only 1 table here that seats more than 6 people, the rest are 2-4 seaters.

I think this is the first bubble tea place that offered the light bulb trend, which drinks are served in a light bulb shaped glass container. I came here just to see what the hype of the light bulb was about and to be honest, I was pretty disappointed with the quality of the drink. I ordered the Roasted milk tea with tapioca in light bulb ($5.8), and they offered 2 choices for the container. I got the glass light bulb which required you to finish the drink on the premise and return the empty bottle. The milk tea was tasted pretty disappointing for me, like it was too diluted. I did enjoy the tapioca however, was it was a little bit sweet and perfectly chewy. The seating environment was pretty good, with a decent number of tables that are optimal for groups of 4 or fewer. There are also clean washrooms on site as well for those who are staying to chat for a longer period of time.

Service was ok, food/drinks are ehhh, decent location and decent prices. Service was faster than the reviews indicate. We got our drinks within 10 minutes of ordering. We got the matcha bubble waffle. Prob not a good idea to get it. Feels like I wasted calories and money. We also got their bear bottle with an earl grey milk tea. The tea wasn't strong and the drink wasn't all that good. The pricing wasn't crazy good but it wasn't bad. Overall a 3/5 star experience.

Ordered the specialty fruit tea, which came to a bit over 7 dollars. The tea is great, but feels a bit overpriced for what I'm drinking. Cashier looks very tired and did not waste any breath. The place is tucked away in a semi-basement, so I'd suppose most people who come here made an effort to find it rather than just walking pass by. There's a lot more bubble tea places in this area, so I will continue going to different bubble tea stores and not come back.

**~THE GOOD~** If you love bubble tea and tired of drinking it from the same old boring cups, Royaltea managed to bring it to another level - by serving it in custom lightbulb containers. I tried the Lightbulb Matcha Bubble Tea with Mousse. It didn't taste artificial and the mousse added a rich creamy salty flavour that made it a unique drink. The tapioca pearls were chewy, big and not gooey. I also love that I can bring home the plastic lightbulb cup souvenir as it was pretty cute. You also have the option to customize your drink based on sugar (no sugar/less sugar, etc) or ice options (no ice/less ice/half ice). **~THE BAD~** I paid $7.68 for the regular lightbulb matcha bbt which I think is overpriced. Normally a regular matcha bbt with mousse will only costs you around 6 bucks in other stores. So basically you're really paying for the lightbulb on top of the regular bbt price. The portion in the lightbulb is also smaller as I still wasn't satisfied after. The place is small and tucked away downstairs. Came around 2 pm on a weekday and despite being the only one, wasn't greeted by the 2 staff. They were busy doing something and talking and it took a long time before they acknowledge my presence and asked for my order. After taking my order, took another 10 mins before I was finally given my bbt. The staff here were also unfriendly and unhelpful when trying to ask some questions. In spite of this I will still come back to the store as they have unique flavours and I want to try their Galaxy layered tea next time.

Rose oolong tea with mousse.

This review is based on one visit and mainly from taste of the one drink ordered (rating can change in the future). I got the Rose Oolong tea with Mousse, compared to other bubble tea shops, the mousse was not as packed with the salty/cheesy taste. The flavour of the rose oolong tea was subtle, not much changed when the mousse was mixed in. I still have yet to try the bubble waffle ice cream and tea with durian mousse. The service was fast and the servers were friendly. There is free WiFi in the shop (password can be found near the cashier)!

Decided to start using yelp again to document my bubble tea adventures in Toronto with "Jamy the Fu"... (he wants to call the series Rat-tail and Banana - the name is still a work in progress) Tonight we came to Royaltea since it was one of the only bbt places near by open after 11. We came in with low expectations but were pleasantly surprised the moment we walked in. The place is very cozy with big tables (could be a good study spot, since we are both students). They have a particular aesthetic with their novelty lightbulb drinks. We were quite pleased with our drinks. Jamy got the Mountain High Milk Green Tea with Tapioca and Coconut Jelly (4/5) and I got the Fresh Watermelon Tea with Mousse and Tapioca (3.5/5). I was uncertain of the watermelon and mousse pairing together but it ended up being pretty decent (though they might be better individually)! The drink was quite pricey though ($8). Jamy was impressed by the quality of the mountain green tea and the flavour of the lychee coconut jelly. We both agree the tapioca is average for Toronto bbt. + they use paper wrapping for the bbt straws so we commend them for reducing the amount of single use plastics which has been a hot topic with bbt shops

Taro no sugar no ice no mouse

This cute cafe offers a lot of personalization to your drink. My go to is a taro little ice no sugar with bubbles. Their bubbles have a fantastic chew and their taro mix is actually not sweet and not artificial tasting. I really enjoyed it and wish they had a satellite store in the US

3.5 stars for slightly overpriced but still delicious bubble tea. It was a rainy day and I just finished dinner. I wanted to try some bubble tea in Toronto's Chinatown and saw Royaltea across the street. In an attempt to escape the rain, I ran inside and was greeted with a warm cozy atmosphere with soft lighting. They have an extensive menu, so be prepared to spend some time deciding! I ended up getting the "lightbulb drinks", one with matcha and one regular. If you stay in the store they will give you glass light bulbs but if you leave its plastic bulbs. The people who took my order did not seem to really understand English so there was a slight language barrier. Nevertheless, I got the drink I wanted! Royaltea is good for instagramming your drinks because they have a huge lit-up sign of their logo up on the wall. Overall, I'll come back next time I'm in Toronto! *They have outlets on the wall if you need to charge your phone :)

Small bubbletea shop that also serves pastries and Filipino meals…read more Their standout offering, of course, is the bubbletea. The tea is loose-leaf, so is elevated from the typical bubbletea. But it's the tapioca that really makes the drink shine with how fresh and bouncy they are. For a tea shop, this place also has really good food. Tried the scones and they were super buttery, very flavourful, and were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside like all great scones. We also got some Filipino meals - the lechon kawali and lumpia super crispy, the bangsilog had a good portion size for the price, and the halo-halo was refreshing. Place is mainly a takeout spot, but there are a couple of small tables to sit 4. Service is friendly. Tea offerings are extensive. Worth a drop-by.

Cookies: The matcha white chocolate cookie was freshly made. Quite soft and delicious. Reasonably sized cookie. Yema cake: It was my first time having the Yema cake so I was looking forward to try it. I got the ube flavour and a soft chiffon cake texture. It wasn't too sweet and was perfect for a nice small dessert. The staff were friendly and the service was good. It's too bad there's limited seating as it would be great to dine-in. I definitely want to come back to try out their drinks!
